Our Tablet is Dead. - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I think our tablet is officially dead and this forum as well. Now that many new cheaper tablets have emerged I don't think people use this anymore. Mine was gathering dust since ages.
Do you still use your tablet and for what purposes?

I still use it when I go out of town trips just for GPS and data connectivity.

This is my phone.. so i still use this "dead tablet"

My p6210 is in Canada. We are still on 3.2 without an official OS update.
I recently updated to 4.1.2 following one of the suggestions from this site. It is nice to have the refresh. I wish it had been sooner. I would have preferred an official update rather rely on the benovelance of strangers on the internet. I'll never buy a samsung again.
For now, this tab still does what I need it to do, so i will squeeze a bit more life out of it. Also as it gets older, i am less adverse to taking risks with it. I may experiment with these new roms. If it bricks, i will buy a Nexus 7 or an Ipad Mini. Sorry, i want timely updates and not an obsoleted device after a few months.

Still on stock waiting for update... Use it for travel, GPS, and plan on using it for accepting credit card payments.

It's still my DD tablet. With 4.1.2 (stock just rooted, if I recall) its doing everything I need. Movies on the road, books, email, web and games.
Certainly drawn to the quad-core goodness on the market, but not enough to open my wallet. I'd rather go with a Nexus, but I'll probably stay with a Samsung for the micro-sd slot. Makes be crazy that Google went the Apple route and gouges you for memory. 64gb card, for $50 = 80GB tablet.

Still a fine piece of kit. Mine is rooted and has JB 4.1.2 (UK/Ireland version) installed along with CWM Recovery. I agree that the tendency of many OEMs to not provide a microSD slot is a PITA...in fact, for me it's a show-stopper.

ye, it is [*] ;_;

not surely dead i think, our tablet still stands out from other new samsung tablets such as tab 3

Too true!
I still use mine as my primary tablet. It still is better than those cheaper tablets out there (plus better than the Tab7.0 v2).

I agree when comparing to the Tab 2 7.0 and Tab 3 7.0. Having recently acquired a Tab 3 8.0, however, that device is definitely a step up - better specs, multi-window feature, etc. and very nearly the same overall footprint.

Oh yes of course, tab 3 8.0 is better, i think the tab 8.0 is the successor of 7.7. Just my opinion :victory:

Far from dead for me.
I still use it daily.
Use it for mail, calendar, tasks, timesheets, notetaking, calculator, banking, ...
Do the occasional gaming and ebook reading.
I hardly leave home without this device.
I love the 7" formfactor because it so easily stores away.
I don't think I will be trading it in any time soon. The quad core systems are mainly interesting for gaming.
The only thing that might sway me to another device is a higher resolution (interesting for some websites), but devices with better resolution are usually a lot more expensive.

Thanks to people who still believe in our tab
Some may think it is dead but I think if anybody wants this tablet not to die go hit the thanks button on this thread because as long as we have people developing we stay alive.

To me this makes me believe it still alive and well.
I have only had my tab for 14 months Still in warranty but i would like to see people who have this tab support people who are making stuff for us in there own free time (like devid801 ) and only ask for a simple thanks that uses a few seconds of our free time.

My biggest concern is shrinking inbuilt battery!

Samsung Galaxy Beam (Projector)

Ladies and Gentleman,
Since there's no section for this amazing device, I'm going to post what I have to say here.
To get straight to the point, YES you can watch a movie with this gadget. At first I was a bit skeptic, projector implemented in a mobile phone...
Same size like a Pico projector but man this is a phone!
If you're interested check out my Galaxy Beam Projector review (its settings, options)

Does anybody knows what is the current firmware for Europe? Poland to be more specific.
Sold my One X and bought one of these, Loved the One X but the battery was crap on it and not having a removable battery and sd card just wasnt for me, i really love the beam, i find it pretty smooth most of the time, but the Gingerbread OS is very buggy and im also having problems with the phone thinking its plugged in charging when it isnt im also getting mtp initializing/media scanner running and it wont stop i have to plug the phone in to charge to fix it but it starts up again at random intervals... anyone out there working with this phone? would love just a stock vanilla android ics or jellybean on it, it has hugh potential with the projector and is a pretty sweet phone also.

Perhaps if anyone receives the update they can post up here, post your location and carrier etc that'd be sweet..
Thinking of getting one of these phones, but to be honest the only thing really putting me off is that there is no XDA specific forum for it.
I know I am gonna want to root it etc and there seems to be people on here working on stuff for it, but having to post in android general just plain sucks.
Apparently it is the same as the Galaxy S Advance or something, and I do not see a forum for that either, can we not make one subforum to cover both phones?
a dedicated forum would definately come in handy... since it's one of a kind device!
Yep sounds good, really needs its own forum

Thanks

Well I have one (in my signature), and there is no official root I know of. However, this device is very similar to Asus transformer infinity and also runs pics, which as an almost universal root tool somewhere (don't remember where to find it). I am hoping someone would be willing to test this on the a2109, as theres many things I wish for root with. As for roms, cwm will need to be made for this and, again, infinity pad may help. But in all honesty, this is so fast that I would be too concerned for roms. Theming would be nice though

I totally agree the speed and smooth, I actually went in to get the ASUS TF300F, but when I held it was just too heavy. There are a few cons such as the camera and the lack of pretty much any accessories. I'd read on another forum that a guy got the Galaxy 8.9 case M-EDGE case for it, so I got the 14.99 one and it fits, though it is pretty tight, and doesn't close completely. It's close enough that I don't worry about anything scratching the screen. Also the way it folds does allow you to use the camera with ease and none of the buttons are covered. I've spent 4 hours searching for a case made specifically for the tablet and not even the MFG has one yet. They do have a picture of a smart cover, but it's nowhere on the site or anywhere else.
I think the people that make non OEM products have bought into the reviews slamming the tablet so much that they didn't decide to make anything for it, which is pretty sad. It's an awesome tablet for people on a budget and doesn't like the garden wall of the KF, lack of additional memory of both the KF and Nexus, and IMHO the specs are awesome. The salesperson did a bench mark test in store and was totally shocked at the rankings it ranked well above all the big name tablets, so at 259 I was definitely sold.
Speaking of the screen, I've viewed it at every angle that I use and there was no problem. I've previously owned the Toshiba Thrive 10.1 and this baby blows it out the water with ease. I kept my KF because trade in went down to 35.00 from 75.00 within a week.
Maybe with people giving positive feedback, more retailers will carry products for it.

I've been posting reviews to every site I can think of, except Amazon. They still haven't gotten their **** together regarding the A2109 specs. Probably a campaign of FUD to sell their own products. Newegg, though, has very few reviews so far...
For those of you not on the Lenovo forums yet, there is now a dev ROM for the A2109. Right now we're at the point of having root, cwm, and a ROM free of bloatware and deodexed -- ready for some theming. Not like I've done any of the work -- by "we" I mean thanks to mcl we now have it.

Well, I took the Lenovo A2109 back to Best Buy today and swapped it for the ASUS TF300T 16GB for a 90.00 difference. They have the same specs under the hood based on a few quick searches on the web. Honestly I hated to do it, because I rather liked the A2109, but the screen kept doing these weird flashes. At first I thought it was something I was doing, but I googled it and it's a known issue. I decided that with the screen already being the only bad thing about the tab and then the flashing I'd just go with something else. Luckily BB had the 16GB ASUS in stock, since it wasn't there the last few times I checked.
There seems to be more support and accessories for the ASUS tab as well. I've not had the chance to test it yet because apparently you have to let it charge a couple of hours before you can use it. (Thought I'd have to make another trip to BB)
I'll update on my blog when I get some play time with it. Just before I took the A2109 back I ran AnTuTu and Vellamo tests on it for S&G and it ranked pretty high, so I want to see if the ASUS tab does the same thing.
I can't post any urls here as a new member, but there is a link to my blog on my profile. Just case anyone is interested.

Spec wise the Nook tab can't touch the ASUS or Lenovo. The only place it would be beat the Lenovo is the screen. Right now the ASUS is running stock JB and still out performing the Lenovo, which I bought for the specs in spite of the screen.

Just picked one of these up tonight -- primarily for the family (non-techie wife & 2nd grade daughter). We've used it for a little over an hour and I'm already noticing random screen flashes. So far they're not anywhere near annoying enough to think about taking it back, but I'm keeping an eye on it. So far very, very pleased!

Excellent! I have noticed the screen glitches myself, and they don't seem to become more frequent or serious over time, so I think what you see is what you will get. I suppose you notice them more when you are concentrating on it. Ordinarily a defect like this would drive me crazy, but for the price I'll overlook it!

I've been thinking about the Nexus 7 inch since the 16 GB model dropped to 199 to replace my KF. I still think 7 inches is the sweet spot for a portable tablet, and I'd also love to have the "true" Android experience with out MFG tweaks, but that will be after the New Year and who knows what will be available then. They seem to be introducing the next big thing every week now.

Tab 7.7 old and discontinued? Should I buy it?

but as you can see the support from samsung itself isn't that great, so I would suggest to make an alternative

Personally I have both devices and both provide me with enjoyable experiences. Is the 7.7 EOL? Probably but it's still a very worthwhile device especially viewing mp4 movies and any other visually-rich activities where space is an issue.
If you have the $280 to spare I'd pull the trigger. (You save FAR more than I did when I bought mine many months ago when it first came out!)

Same decision here and I chose the 7.7 after comparing to the Nexus. Even though its old and discontinued it still blows away the nexus IMHO. The screen on the 7.7 is miles better and you have the SD card slot. Also I am running JB 4.2.2 flashed following information from these very forums.

but when this happen, already Android 5.0 will be out, and maybe 7.0 inch tablets with Full HD displays will out also, so if you like software upgrades fast and clean, go to nexus cause Samsung sucks at it, or wait until Full HD tablets with Android 5.0 is out.
it's still a great tablet. such excellent build quality, expandable memory, screen is amazing people comment on it all the time, option to get a pay as you go sim, keep it in there and get data as needed on a month to month basis, still quite fast with ICS. JB would be nice but not 100% needed plus there are some ROM options that provide JB like features.
im flying overseas this summer, right now there is no other tablet i would want with me. i can put multiple movies on here and watch them, and enjoy wifi wherever, and if really needed get wireless data also. what else could you ask for? well a nexus device with this kind of build quality, expandable memory and this screen. but that is not happening yet.
Dude ... the screen is really enough reason to buy that awesome device .. the only tab with Super AMOLED Plus screen !
and btw .. Samsung announced that it's going to have Jelly Bean update in Q2 i guess

Next Tablet

So I recently had and Acer Iconia A100 die and need to replace it. Due to budget constraints I'm choosing between the GT2 and the Nexus 7.
I'm familiar with the spec differences but I can't pull the trigger on one or the other. Any GT2 users want to convince me? Let me know your thoughts... positive and negative...
unless you want a camera,I would choose the n7
I have no gripes about the gt2 but the screen is a lesser resolution and the n7 will probably have a longer life for android updates....
in the tabs defense the gt2 does seem to be built a Lil better, the n7 has that pesky screen lift problem and just feels flimsy

Definitely get a hard case for it
For best peformance = Nexus 7
For Gaming = Nexus 7
For Multimedia features = Galaxy Tab 2
For Android updates = Nexus 7
For a better construction body and physical resistance = Galaxy Tab 2
For Photos = Galaxy Tab 2
In my option, you should buy a Nexus 7... I only buy GTab 2 bcoz Nexus 7 isn't avaiable in Brazil, and I don't have any familiars in US...
I have both Nexus 7 and Tab2.... Bought Nexus 7 last year when I was in US and only WIFI version was launched. Have been using it since 8 months now but only issue that I faced with it was that I could not connect to internet as no 3g was available. Hence recently I purchased Tab2 for my self and gifted the nexus to my kiddo...
My two cents...
Nexus 7 3G is the best tab to own. Very good in gaming and multimedia features too. Love the Android updates and have been using 4.2.2 since last 2 months. Battery lift of my wifi N7 is way better than the Tab 2 with 3G. One biggest grouse - no expandable memory of N7, my 16gig get over soon when I download movies to watch on it.
Only reason I bought Tab2 is that N7 with 3G was not available at the time I purchased the Tab here in India. Though if I was out in market at this point, I willl certainly pick the N7 3G version.
Thanks for all the replies, I have to say I expected folks in the N7 forum to recommend the N7 but didn't expect to see such support for it from GT2 users. I'm not worried about the lack of an SD card since I don't ever take much media with me, mostly docs and pdf's and with 16GB internal I think I will be fine (never had a problem with the 8GB on my Acer except for the GPS writing extra files issue). I do have a fear that I will miss the rear camera but I think the performance and Android support for the Nexus is winning me over...
Thanks again
Nexus 7 in everyway.
Only reason I have a Gtab2 is because I am 13 and have controlling parents.

As long as you're extra careful go for the N7, GPS grabs a speedy fix too usually under 5 seconds indoor
I do like the hdmi capabilities in my Samsung tab (7.0+). Has that been figured out for the Nexus or is it a permanent no-go?

[Q]What is wrong with SAMSUNG?

As I was looking on Google for the official 4.2 jellybean,I read that Samsung will give 4.2 to stinking old first gen galaxy tab 10.1 and other variants.
Isnt it is unfair to us that our 1 year newer tabs end on official 4.2,and the first gen tabs end on 4.2 too.
I think that Samsung should give at least 1 more year of support, because by this,we should have bought the gtab-it is cheaper, and it basically has the same specs as the tab 2,
Here is a list
Galaxy tab(2011,July):ends on 4.2
Galaxy tab(2012,May):ends on 4.2
List of releases(tablet and phone)
Galaxy tab-galaxy s2(both have dual core)
Galaxy tab 2-galaxy s3(tab 2 is dual core,s3 is quad-core)
Shouldn't tablets be even better then phones?
What is the use of a quad core on a phone, which was intended only for calls and music.
Tablets were intended for games,watching videos,reading e-books...
I hope that someone could explain the solution of this question to me.

So true
It is all rubbish
Why does Samsung do this
4.3 and 5.0 must be ported to the second generation
Then what would be the difference between the two generations
This means no enhancement in two years.....

Quad core use is mainly for multitasking purposes. Don't limit the phone's use on calling and music only, it varies on the user on how he would like to utilize his phone.
But then I aggree with you, at least let the newer gen of grab support much more longer. One of the maim reason why I left apple, is because they disregard their old models fast, forces its users to upgrade phone
They should support us for more...!

The problem is not the neccesary hardware to move newer versions of android, is touchwiz, even the galaxy S4 has lag with touchwiz.
This tab will have 2 por more years of support because of the devolopers.

You know they'll never do that.
Now ,when you gonna buy a product don't think in Samsung.

I really like Samsung, but, the bigger they become the small we become.
Man, you people are such whiners. You know why they're ending support for the Tab 2 on 4.2? Because 4.3 isn't even out yet. And what's that about the S3 being more powerful? Of course it's gonna be more powerful, it's their flagship phone! If you want powerful, why didn't you buy the Note tablets, not this budget crap?
FFS the P3110 is $249 at most and the S3 is $599, don't expect top quality. Phones can be used for gaming too. Also, more cores doesn't always mean more power. In short, stop complaining, you know nothing about Samsung.

Yes, it's stupid support, but I think Samsung is slowly becoming Apple. The only company I can hang on to now is Google.

Yeah, you should have. But if you haven't bough the 1st-gen, which is cheaper and has basically the same specs, how is this Sammy's fault? This kind of logic amuses me...

Wrong. Phones can be used, and are used for much more than calls and music. Tablets shouldn't be "better" than phones by any reasonable logic -- they are just different type of devices.

What solution? From user's perspective (including you, me, other guys), there is no solution, period. All your complaints and demands like "they should do this", "they must do that" will do absolutely nothing. All manufacturers are, and always will be planning releases and support cycles for their products to maximize profits. As long as there is demand for new products (which is always), some old ones will inevitably be ditched to give way to the new ones. Fact of life, sorry. The only thing that could prompt some changes in the support model is a noticeable part of a user base switching to the competitors. Do you see that happening? I don't.

I didnt buy this device, I got it as a present, and if i didnt get it, I would get a nexus 10 (but i guess that life isnt fair),and the fact that the gen 2 of the tab didnt make any big jumps (gs and gs2 have a big difference between them! Same for s2 and s3) isnt bright.I am not blaming Samsung, but I am shocked how they treat the customers.Their support is better then SONY, every company is better then SONY when it comes to support for the customers. But if they made themselves even better by giving more support to the newer devices, more people would turn to SAMSUNG when they would buy a phone or any other device
Tablet ,by many people I encountered on the internet,is basically a touch screen PC with android, which is a lot cheaper then the average spec PC with at least windows 7.
Then tell me.If the PHONE is used for more things, what is a TABLET used for?
The name PHONE is used for a device that should be useful for texting, calling, writing notes, and other basic functions.Tablets are the extension for gaming, watching videos, drawing, easier browsing trough the internet, and other complex functions.Otherwise there is no reason for the existence of them.
You cant really enjoy a hq long-lenght video on 4 inches, can you?
Yes, phones are more practical, and they are used more. But if a company decides to make something, then the logical thing is to make something good, a big difference between the older version of the product and the new one.
Then my conclusion is that the companies made a bigger toy version of the phone.A toy called "tablet PC".

No, just no. Stop limiting phones to just calling and texting. Both can play games, both can be used as a media player. To be honest the main reason I wanted my first android phone was to play games on it.
You want real support? Buy Google, not Samsung or HTC or Sony or Motorola.

They turned a normal phone in to a toy for your kind, for people who want to play games on a phone.if you want to kill the time while waiting for something, read a book instead.how can you even play any game on a 3 inch phone? You have to be 13 max, otherwise you wont be able to do anything in games on those phones, because big fingers restrain you from doing that.
If you cant afford to play good games on a good pc, try working for it, dont destroy your sight by playing games on a small screen almost every day.
Read more carefully before trying to act smart.
I GOT THIS TABLET AS A GIFT, BUT I CANT SELL IT BECAUSE IT IS A GIFT FROM A FRIEND, A BEEING THAT YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW OF.
I had the money, but didnt buy a nexus 10, as I already had another tablet.Sony is the worst company, I know that because I own a Sony device.
And you have a phablet, not a tablet.
Many of my friends only use their phones when they are outside, for calls, texting, taking pictures, and not for gaming -.-
