I currently own a captivate but now that I have two I am planning on selling and buying a Nexus S.
My question is Im assuming I will not be able to use 3G, however with a custom ROM would I be able to get "H" network or will I only be able to use EDGE?
Thanks in advance

Edge only. T-Mobile and ATT use different network bands. Otherwise I'd own a nexus s as well.

I'm not sure to be honest. If in fact you can get hsdpa or hsupa or hspa with a custom rom or modem. I may purchase one. I can look into it a little.

The answer is no. The physical support is not there - it's not an issue of flashing the appropriate radio.
An AT&T version has been seen in FCC fillings as well as referenced in commits in the git repo - it will be available soon enough. If you get the current version for AWS you're stuck on edge.

Well, you can't. Read the stickies in a forum before posting. Your question was answered there and it would've saved you time in finding your answer. This question gets asked a lot, in spite of the fact it's a stickied FAQ thread.
Also, earch the Nexus S forums for a more thorough answer why, this question has been asked quite a few times. Learning how to use the Search will save you a lot of time in finding your answers and prevent clutter & duplicate questions.
Learning how to read stickies & FAQs will help you (and us) tremendously.

You can't do this for the simple fact that "H" is based off of 3G. The 2 companies use different frequencies for 3G and as such, different hardware is required within the phone. Simply put, no 3g, no H no matter what ROM you flash.
the ATT version is coming soon, probably within the next few weeks. it already went thru FCC testing.
I'm looking for a new phone and att has nothing that is worth buying right now. Will I be able to make calls on a nexus s with my att sim in it. I mostly run my phone on wifi but when I'm out I just want a descent phone.

It has to be approved by the FCC/DOJ/etc. I seriously doubt it'll get approved. Sprint is fighting this. And no, it wouldn't be a stupid idea. It's a good phone, people are over exaggerating about this purchase.
The other alternative if I was to make a phone purchase would be the G2x probably but that phone isn't unlocked so... Nexus S is purely unlocked from the beginning including ability to unlock the bootloader.

An ATT version is coming very soon from solid rumors, so you really should just wait a few weeks to get the proper working version if it comes out.

Where are you seeing all these lte issues? Beside even if it is dropping its better than Sprints NO LTE.
I have seen people complaining that it keeps kicking them down to 3g. But you are right the speed difference is huge. And no I don't have to pay an etf. I just have to send then all of my phones. Witch sux I just got the sgs3 two weeks ago

A lot of the lte drop you may be hearing of comes from the cynogen mods and aokp roms. But Verizon has the most solid lte coverage out there.
Plus like it was stated. I'd rather lte drop but have lte as apposed to no lte and real slow 3g speeds from Sprint

I am using AOKP Milestone 6, and after tinkering with a couple things, I have a solid 4G connection. No unexplained drops to 3G in a 4G area for me.
And I agree with what's stated above. There is no way you'll want 3G once you get used to 4G.
stock Rom at the moment works best on this phone I would just stay with that till development matures a bit.

I agree. I use 1 gig in about a week, easily. I definitely wouldn't come to Verizon with their new data plans. You're just asking for a huge bill.
Good bye HTC Rezound, hello Galaxy S3!
I just picked up a relatively new (6 months old) SGH-I727 on Rogers. It was second-hand, in great physical shape, and worked fine with my non-LTE SIM.
Anyhow, I didn't think to check until after I purchased it, but it's completely non-custom. Here are the specs below. Can anyone tell me if this is a good setup? Also, I am not able to connect to the LTE network (in areas with perfect LTE coverage, using my new LTE SIM card). Any ideas?
MODEL: SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND VERSION: UNKNOWN
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.49-cyanogenmod-g5756af1 [email protected] #1 Tue Nov 20 20:55:25 PST 2012
CYANOGENMOD VERSION: 10-20121121-UNOFFICIAL-
PARANOIDANDROID VERSION: 2.99
BUILD DATE: Tue Nov 20 20:40:17 PST 2012
BUILD NUMBER: pa_skyrocket-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng.gs2usr.20121120.203851 test-keys
LAUNCHER: Trebuchet 0.2 Copyright CyanogenMod 2012
So... I have verified my APN's and they are spot-on for Rogers (according to Rogers reps - 2 of them). Everything else seems to work just fine except LTE.
Should I look at trying another ROM/flash/whatever (even if it won't fix LTE, I want a stable and supported/current phone).
???
Thanks in advance.
Eric
Did you call and have your plan provisioned for lte?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, the plan has been lte-enabled for a year (corporate plan). According to Rogers, everything is good on their end and mine. They say it might be a faulty sim but thats rare.

Aside from the lte "issue", should I be concerned about any other custom stuff on this phone?
I have "Android terminal emulator" popping up on occasion. Is this a security issue, and/or something required for the custom stuff to run properly?
Cheers,

The rom you have is a decent one, although it's very recent and may not everything working right. But it should have the phone working right. As others have said, many roms show 4g which is the same as lte.

Custom roms need to be updated manually. You may want to look at the stickies in the development forum and look for vincom he has written many good how-to's. You could learn how to revert your phone back to stock and/or how to install custom roms

If you can trace it to a specific app, you can use Titanium backup to freeze the app or even delete it.
Did you check in:
-Settings
-More:
-Wireless & networks
-Mobile networks
-Network mode
And ensure that it's set to an option that includes lte?
Mine is lte/gsm/wcdma. By default mine was not set to lte, and therefore did not get lte speeds, even though everything else was in place.

You made a huge mistake switching to tmobile!!
There is nothing called "combo" when it comes to using Skyrocket with t mobile (and in my opinion it makes things worse as you might have to troubleshoot both sides radio and rom problems) ... It is just the radio that can be fine or not depending on the area , and in some areas now t mobile switched their data freq to 1900Mhz so even stock UCLF6,UCLI3 or UCLL3 can work , including 4G
