Calling & texting works.
also not receiving mms
my issue is that I am using newer att sim and suddenly my speeds used to be LTE but more often than not are now indicating H or H+ and signal is weaker. started right before Thanksgiving thereabouts. I haven't even come close to the the 2.5 GB cap either.
How I fixed it..
Called straight talk, guy had me setup new apn again (same thing).
still didnt work. Then he did something (not sure what)
then he said turn off (not just restart) and turn back on.
Then it worked.

Last week I stopped being able to use the internet, marketplace and streaming service on my Galaxy S 4g unless I'm on wi-fi. Today I realized it appears as if I'm no longer getting edge, 3g or 4g service. I have bars, but nothing next to it telling me what network I'm on.
My phone is rooted to stock with bloat removed and has been for months. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try toggling airplane mode. Might help to remove your SIM card & ensure the contacts are clean then reseat it.

I've moved back to stock ROM XXJVT, but still not able to connect to 2G/3G. Anyone help.....
Btw, I'm sure the APN settings are correct and packet data is checked.

I guess I figured it out. But it doesn't seem very logical, but hey it works.
I changed the url of my provider from "live.vodafone.com" to "live .vodafone.com" (watch the space between live and .vodafone) and all of a sudden E/G/H appeared in the status bar.
Still, double check the APN settings, make sure everything is entered in right (proxy, username, authentication type, etc). Were you able to send pictures still? You need to make sure it's not a hardware problem.
I have a sensation running albinoman cm10.1 and I've been using Straight Talk T-Mobile for the last few months... A few days ago my data stopped working, and the H icon in the status bar disappeared, after being on the phone with tech support for 45 minutes I just hung up because she just kept on saying the same thing over and over again and it didn't work, but in the process I realized that when selecting the stock T Mobile APN the H Data icon comes back, but then the data doesn't work since I'm using straight talk...
So if anybody is familiar with this problem and has a solution or anyone just has a solution please help me cause I'm going crazy without my mobile data.
P.S. I am going to try switching roms later today from cm 10 to a sense 4 ROM.

The apn in it for straight talk does that match what it is supposed to be.
And not being on T-Mobile their APN shouldn't connect.
If checking the settings match up and still not connecting I would call straight talk again and have them check to make sure with engineering your APN is right in the network.

cm10 comes with 3 apns T Mobile, Simple Mobile and Straight talk.. When I select the t mobile APN the H icon comes back but data doesn't work Cuz its the wrong APN, but then when I go back to the straight talk APN the H icon disappears......

Im having the same exact problem but with my Samsung Vibrant phone. At first I thought I was having problems after a thunderstorm. Usually after the storms pass my internet will be back up the next day but it never came back. All weekend I have been without internet on my phone. So I was trying to figure it out. I decided to put back on the T-mobile APN and I was able to make a call on it which was weird. My internet signal shows up on it but when I go back to straight talk APN it disappears. If you find any solution to this problem please post a response. I have a feeling calling straight talk would be useless so Ill wait to see if there is any solutions.

I'm wondering if this is a problem across the board. Lately in have been running a few different ROMs. Hyperdrive, moar and the most recent moar 5.0.1. I have noticed that my MMS won't go through while I am on WiFi. I don't know if this has been a problem for a while and I haven't noticed it. I really like the app textra, and unjust started using it the other day. I thought that was the issue. Uninstalled it and I am still having the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm thinking it's a rom issue because I just wiped my phone and installed cyanogenmod and I can send and receive mms messages over wifi without any trouble
are u using a network extender by chance when your on WiFi?

I always thought it was a network thing. I thought they required you to send and receive MMS through the cell towers because they're stored at Verizon servers before being passed along to the recipient. I had the same issue on my LG Ally, haven't tried MMS over WiFi on my gs3, but now I'm curious.

No, I'm not using a network extender. Interesting thing tho. MMS will not go thru at all on MOAR or Hyperdrive. I flashed bonestock 3.1 and when I send an MMS over wifi, the 4G turns on (so now the wifi icon and 4G are on) and it will send the MMS.......hmmmmmm
MMS / SMS are both sent over data networks, as this is the only way VZW can count how many you send, thus being able to bill those who do not have unlimited text messages. (this came from a VZW rep when i called in to get a work order on my phone, as mine wouldn't work)
When the S3 first came out, there was an issue with the devices as a whole, fully stock and unrooted, having problems sending text messages when the phone was on WIFI. The process is, when you hit send, it will shut off your WIFI, switch to data, send message, and then switch back to WIFI without you noticing it.
however, in the beginning, there was an issue with the phone doing this. AND this was even before rooting the phone. VZW and Samsung had to do a fix for their radios to get the phone to work correctly.
so what you are probably seeing, is an issue with that switching, not that the message won't go over WIFI, cuz unless these DEVs have figured out how to make messages go over internet instead of data network, then the issue is a ROM issue with the switch.

Unfortunately, this is the answer that is most often given, but not very helpful (no offense). I think the majority of people with the issue at this point understand that MMS is sent via data networks by design, the problem is, it is not functioning properly. It is NOT shutting off the WiFi, therefore it is not sending at all. I've had different periods of success, where it'll work for a week, then back to the same ****. I've never rooted my phone, so it's a stock ROM issue that still remains.
always had issues sending MMS messages on roms other than stock when I was at home with my network extender...I kept messing with the APN settings last night... I changed the other thing to GSM and tried to connect to at & t towers.. after it failed only then it would have multiple choices of APN settings ..I have all the roaming options checked and the LTE/CDMA is checked...I've been able to send MMS messages with no problem now.

Just an update I'm on liquid smooth 4.2.2 and it automatically turns network data on if I have it off in order to receive/send mms. This is what I was looking for.

I have no internet unless I connect to my wifi. I've checked the APN settings and compared them to what the internet says they should be and found small minor differences so tried to edit it.
When I edited and selected Save, the APN disappeared. I then tried creating one but again when I pressed Save, it vanished.

I had a similar problem with mine. Did a full wipe of the phone and started
again from scratch and this has sorted the problem for me.

I'm on 3. Put my sim in, turned the phone on and it's been fine. I can do a screen shot of the apn settings if you like?

When I got it, I switched it on, unlocked bootloader and installed CWM. It didn't boot and for some reason wouldn't wipe through CWM so I downloaded the factory images and re-flashed the phone.
I then entered my details and got the no internet problem. I have done a wipe using the settings menu and now internet works

Hmmm... odd. I just took the 3sim from my SGS3 and put it in the N5 and it just worked.
Well spoke too soon, its not working again. Whenever I go into Mobile network settings, Network mode says Change the network operating mode and if I click it neither 2G, 3G or 4G is selected. Something strange going on.
Mine worked first time, whats your APN settings? if you post them i'll check them against mine

You could be right. I originally had TWRP but I had a number of problems. I flashed CWM, did everything i needed to and once i was up and running I flashed TWRP back (the added functionality I do like). Since then its been okay. But yes, a number of formats.
Try having CWM?
Now back to stock recovery and tried re-flashing stock image and full wipe and still got no mobile data. Gutted but looks like its going back.
Just tried my o2 sim in which I only get 2G signal with in my house and it works on mobile data so appears to be only a problem connecting to 3G
I'm having the exact same problem..I'm on three too, sometimes I get 3G just for a couple of seconds, but then it vanishes? I don't think it's the phone though since I do get signal when outside the house. I think it has something to do with the signal booster I have?
Well there's a coincidence, I have a Home Signal Box too as get zero signal in my house without one. I do get full mobile phone signal just no internet. I'm sure its something to do with APN settings which do seem to be slightly different to recommended settings but can't change them as when I do the APN vanishes and it won't let me add any either.

Same issue. On 3 with Home Signal Box. Data dies once I hop onto the box's connection.
I'm thinking to get a 3 sim on the one plan this weekend. How is the data speeds looking on the nexus 5. I just saw tesco is doing 4g which is reasonably cheaper than my current 02 even though it runs on their network but i must my 02 speeds are really terrible right now. Cheapest 02 4g deal is like 26 pound with 1gb data. Thats not even an option.

I've mentioned this in a few threads and nobody else seems to have the same problem...
Ever since rooting and updating to 4.4 I have not been able to send an MMS with WiFi enabled...the phone will not kick over to 4g to send the message...
- If I turn WiFi off they send fine
- I can receive them fine with WiFi on or off no problem...
I have not don't a factory reset, but this seems like it would be a system issue which a factory reset won't help...I don't want to FXZ because I'll lose root...but its becoming annoying to deal with...
So hopefully SOMEONE can help me lol

I have two suggestions. Try switching from Global to LTE/CDMA. If that doesn't work try to send one with your ad blocker disabled, assuming you use one. Seems strange but some people on Verizon forums say it solved the same issue you describe on the S4.
Also wondering if you use the LTE OnOff app and set it to CDMA (auto) if it would send. Maybe you have low 4G signal at home? I have low signal at my home but my phone always finds the 4G signal. However it's rare I can get any data from it. I get better reception with 3G. I know you said it sends fine over 4G with wifi off but might be worth experimenting with.

I had already tried switching the network off global...4g signal is fine at home...
BUT...it was the ad blocker! Switched it off and bam! MMS sends...now...to try and figure out what is blocking mms on WiFi...
Can't even begin to explain how much I appreciate your help!!

Actually, going with a different adblocker has done the trick...still blocking ads...and sending mms just fine...
