[Q] Which rom BEST on the Bettery Life ? Pls...

I really had problem with the battery life on the Nexus S.
30% Talk, 20% Facebook, 20% Webbrowsing, 20% chatting and 10% Standby mode. Never use 3G as my country not really available yet (Y_Y) and little of Wifi. I can hardly had my Nexus S with me more than 9hr. I'm on the CM7. Thank you for all the advise.
SO which rom give the best battery life result on the Nexus S?

it can be any number of things that affect battery life.
we all have different ideas of what light, heavy and moderate usage is.
if you are in an area with spotty cell coverage that will greatly impact your batt life.
if you just got your NS give yourself time to break in the batt. When i first got mine the day they got released i wasnt happy with batt life but a week later it was amazing.
ROMs will do little to nothing to give you better battery life. but from experience CM always edged out on top.

cm7 has pretty good battery life. You might want to try a custom kernel if you haven't already. I recommend netarchy's. Otherwise you could flash modaco rom which I've personally found to have slightly better battery life. 9 hours with your kind of use is actually not bad at all. Other things you could do is recondition your battery to maximize it. Or dim your screen brightness because you seem to be on the screen a lot. Screen filter app works great for this.

speaking of screen brightness, having your phone set to auto brightness uses more batter than just manually changing the brightness for any given situation

im still on stock and i try the nightlies here and there i get a day and a half on both builds. you must have lot syching in the background or ur apps are running in the background.

There are a lot of battery threads out there, but i wanted to try something new. I want to see how much our phones drain in real world situations. So here are the rules:
1. Use your phone normally for ten minutes.
2. Note your battery percent at the beginning and then at the end.
3. Post details about what you did, what ROM you're using, and the percent battery drain.
Hopefully we can compare our experiences and learn something.
I used my phone to surf a few websites, send one text, and use xda app. Started at 80% and ended at 77%. Using rcmix3d at 50% brightness.
I know there are tons of factors that affect battery drain, and I'm not trying to be scientific. I'm just curious how we all compare!

The only way you will get a decent idea is to test with others in your area as it will depend alot in signal strength. I would use more battery if I was bouncing between signals instead of having a steady connection.

Screen-on time is the only thing I ever look at. I've only managed to squeeze about 5h45m, out the sense-based gb ROM I've been using.
The phone does really well in standby on most if not all roms that have been flashed properly, don't have non-rom-related battery hogging app issues, and, as zelendel mentioned, signal issues.
It's this big fat screen that's obviously the biggest battery sucker.

My phone does great in standby as well, but seems to die quick when I'm actually using it. I've never had an issue with the phone dying on me though as I recharge every night. I think i had a little better battery life on miui than I'm getting now.
I know there are many many factors that go into battery performance, I'm just curious what other people actually get when using their phones.

I've gotten accustomed to putting my phone on the charger before bed as well. Mine pretty much will last the entire day... Off charger at ~8-9am, back on it at ~12am.
Averaging about 5 hrs screen on time with usually no voice calls of significant length, WiFi on, gps off, relatively stable signal.
I'm running Inspired Ace 1.0.1, and the 04.11_M2 radio. Seems I was getting a little better with the OTA radio, but signal fluctuated a lot more on that one, than with the 04.11_M2.
Edit: doesn't really use your testing procedure, just more of a general feeling, as there's so many other contributing factors...

10 minutes of on-line gaming (storm8 games) = 10% drain
WiFi off, gps off, mobile data on, screen brightness on auto, stock rom

Holly crap that's a heavy drain. I couldn't possibly use this phone with that type.of battery drain. Thanks to our great dews I managed a little over 7h screen on time. Could only accomplish that by reducing the screen brightness and UC to 768mhz. Stick speed and auto brightness I get about 6-6 1/2 screen on.

My battery will drain about 5% if I even just leave it sitting for ten minutes... I JUST rooted my Inspire and flashed the RCMix3D ROM, and it almost seems worse. Have background data, auto sync, wifi, gps, bluetooth, all that stuff shut off, too. I love this rom, but really want to find one that improves battery life!

You probably got a bad flash, or have something else running, as I mentioned in your recent thread.
Did you full wipe prior to flashing?
Try out gingerbeast, if you still have battery issues with that, after properly wiping prior to flashing of course, then it's hardware, as that ROM has produced some record-breaking battery life performance.

Mine has twice decided to randomly have days where it just drains like crazy. The battery is a lot warmer and just dies out in like 6 hours with very minimal usage. the majority of the time my battery is great but the last 2 days and then about a month ago it did this. No reason for it either, I have made no changes on my device.
Anybody seen this?

Yeah I did a full wipe before flashing. I'll be sure and try that out tomorrow, I really hope it helps. If the issue is hardware, should I contact HTC? After I believe you said my phone should still be under warranty, I called them, and indeed it is. The rep I had before must have been new or something. Thanks

From a full charge, on TPGB with wifi, gps, and sync on, and everything refreshed 3-4hrs, I lasted about 8 hours. I was using super accurate gps for 20 minute intervals or so, but it lasted the day I'd say. Some occasional web browsing.
Lucky for me my head unit on my car has a usb port. For this whole trip I left it off though.

Battery

Hey not sure if im even putting this in the right thread but im very new to rom and kernel flashing etc
Im running CleanRom 5.0 and Beastmode 4.3 Kernel
My battery life right now is 30% after 8 hours...what am i doing wrong both the rom and kernel have allegedly good battery life...i recently flashed both like 2 days ago...am i supposed to let the kernel and rom calibrate etc before i freak out about the poor battery?
My screen is using abt 60%
voice 20%
standby 5
whats app 4% phone idle 4%...not sure what other info to provide but can anyone help me make modifications for better battery life
im using kernel tuner i tried governor: badass, wheatley, intellidemand..my screen brightness is veryy low i took it off auto because i felt it was sucking it even faster. I dont think im overclocking...random apps like youtube, facebook etc are running in the background is this a huge problem?

What is your screen on time?
60% brightness isnt "low" by any means, I usually leave mine on 40%. You made a good choice to take the phone off auto brightness.
Personally I got really bad battery life with beastmode. I now run flar2's experimental 1.5 GHz kernel and couldn't be happier.
Radios also have a significant impact on battery life. The 2.29 radio + ril has worked best for me with battery life.

Yeah you have to keep in mind how you're using your phone. If your screen is on for a lot of taht 8 hours, that's a decent run.

Think he means screen is using 60% on the battery usage stats, not screen brightness.
60% is fairly high. I think he just has the screen on a lot. Brightness may also be a factor. Only about 4-5 hours if screen-on time is to be expected on low brightness.

Battery life
Hey guys, I've recently bought a AT&T HTC One X. This is my first smartphone, and it is fully stocked, locked bootloader and no root, android 4.0.4 and software version 2.20.502.7, really like the phone. However, I am not really impressed with the battery life. I would usually charge it over night for around 8 hours, take it off in the morning at around 08:00, take it to school, casually check facebook/gmail, maybe watch one or two videos and by the time I get home at around 15:30, the battery would be at around 15%. I was wondering whether this is normal and if there is any point of my rooting the device and flashing any custom roms?
I have disabled all the AT&T bloatware, decreased my screen brightness to around 25%, no live wallpapers, disabled auto syncing, wifi and mobile data mobile switched on only when I use it, only have a weather/clock widget and a couple of games. So I have been researching about rooting and customer roms for about a month now, and found out that some members have amazing battery life times with Cleanroms and custom kernels, so I was wondering whether the latest 5.1 Cleanrom with a Beastmode kernel 4.4 would cause any damage to my phone and whether any of you guys are using it?

Are you using LTE? I found that my battery would drain very quickly when set to use LTE, even if I'm on wifi. I guess the LTE towers were further away or something because my signal would drop really low. I leave my phone on 4g for the most part now, only switching to LTE when I really need it, and I can get two days of battery with light usage. I've only recently flashed CleanROM so I would expect it to get better, but it's too early to tell. I've only got 22 minutes of screen time, but my phone has been on for 9 hours and it's at 85%.

Wow, that sounds good, even with that much screen time the standby is much better than on my device. Sorry I forgot to mention, I live in the UK and LTE or 4G is only available in major cities. However, my phone is AT&T and is sim-unlocked, and I get the '4G' mark on the top of the screen, therefore I think it might be the HSPA+ that is available in my area, which I rarely use anyway.
Is it the stock kernel that you have flashed with the rom?

Same here. I'm in and out of LTE all day, so I just leave it on hsdpa unless I am in a solid area and tethering. Made a massive difference in my battery life.

Just because that person got a particular battery life by toggling off LTE, don't assume that you will get the same results. Battery life often tends to be very reception and location specific.
I leave LTE on 24/7 (as well as WiFi, and brightness on 40%), and can get close to 48 hours on a charge with low usage.
Also, bear in mind that you can't toggle LTE off on AT&T stock ROMs.

That's correct, on stock AT&T ROMs, the "4G" icon means HSPA+. If its on LTE, it will say "4G LTE".
My guess is that you are just having reception issues. Flashing ROMs and kernels may get you slight improvements in battery. But don't expect it to make a huge difference, or you will likely be disappointed. A different radio may also help.

Thank you, I will have this in mind. I was wondering whether it was due to reception or was it just the batter malfunctioning. In your opinion, would it be better to wait for the Jelly Bean update and see whether the battery life improves?

[Q] Battery Life - KANGAKAT 3.0 & Franco r25

Hi guys,
i have a question about the battery life of my nexus 5, since i installed kernel Franco r25, the battery life seems not so good
i turned off almost everything (wifi, bluetooth, etc) before going to sleep, the battery was at 93%, and after 7 hours, it lost 17%
here are some pictures, hope that there will be some useful information.

The last photo looks like you have poor signal, and the "phone idle" on your battery chart would suggest that as well. If this is the case, your best bet is to just leave the phone on the charger over night because low signal will destroy your battery faster than even the screen.

Yeah unfortunately the best thing you can do is enable airplane mode and wifi and use Google Voice if you need to send texts. Otherwise the phone will just send more power to the radio which drains the battery in this situation.

You probably have some apps waking up your phone and eating up your battery

Poor battery life

Hi there,
I've had my Google Nexus 5 for a few weeks now and the battery life on it seems to be very hit and miss. Sometimes it'll make it through the day ok and others it won't. Today I haven't really used my phone very much and the battery is already down to 17%! I've followed the suggestions in the forum but any ideas as to what is causing this? I don't have my email set to push (I just check it when I need to), Facebook isn't set to automatically get notifications, Google Now is off (and the location settings are set to preserve battery) but I'm puzzled as to how the battery life is so bad. In terms of brightness, it's set down to around 20%.
My old Samsung S3 was never this bad!

use GSAM or better battery stats to find what is keeping your phone awake.

Apologies, I should have posted this in another battery post. Do I have to be rooted to use better battery stats?

Your cellular signal looks low. Your phone could be spending a lot of time hunting for a tower. Try using WiFi. You can also try putting your phone into either airplane mode or turn cellular data off.

You don't need root for gsam, tho with root you get more useful stats.
just a guess, but I agree, your Poor signal is likely destroying your battery.

I'd have to agree with others based on the minimal amount of information provided. Low signal + Google services (Auto Sync, etc.) trying to use that low signal is going to eat through any phones battery no matter how big.

Ok so I used Greenify to clear out any apps that I thought could have been causing the battery drain but to no avail. I've also installed GSAM battery monitor and that reports my battery usage as 5% per hour. The funny thing is I've come from a Samsung S3 which only had a 2100mah battery and my Nexus 5 gets nowhere near that in terms of battery life.

apps do not make a difference if your signal is garbage.
based on the 2 screen shots you provided, your signal is crap and eating your battery.

yet you still wont provide us more than the 2 screenshots.
i've asked for GSAM or betterybatterystats and you have provided neither.
until i see differently, your signal sucks and is killing your battery.

We do need gsam or equivalent screen shots. Or you will only get guesses as replies.
Let's get those shots and get it solved.

Root your phone. Install slimkat Rom and Use greenify. on average day I get around 3 hours of SOT

But that's 3 hours out of 7 hours of up time. Maybe if it was 3 hours of SoT and around 12-15 hours up.

If you click phone radio in gsam... It shows you time looking for signal.
Anyway, its your signal. It doesn't show up as big usage on any app. you're signal is very poor. That's your issue.
Not a lot you can do. Except turn off data. Or use WiFi. Or even airplane mode.
That's about it.
Nothing will save your battery with data on with such a low signal.

You have normal and low awake time....so almost the only other possibility is radio signal. Or a rogue and sneaky app. Is location services on? That's usually what rogue apps interact with to cause bad drain. Just if that's the case, android o/s is usually real high. The last thing is screen brightness...if its real bright it will drain fast.
Try WiFi.....then look at those other options I said.
