Surface 2 and Eduroam - Microsoft Surface

I am unable to get a stable link to eduroam with my Surface 2 at my institution. I've tried pretty much everything that the web has to offer in terms of advice and have come up with nothing that works. Does anybody have any insights into what the root problem may be?

No, staff at UWE, Bristol. Seems to be a widespread problem.

Hey,
I'm a student from Germany and we have the same problem here.
Sometimes i have to type 10 times my login and pass that it works. Very confussing and looks like that it has to be a problem by Eduroam .
So far i know you can't really do something .
greets from Germany
sorry for my bad englisch

That is weird, Eduroam works perfect with my pro. I suppose you installed the certificates and everything manually?

Check the security settings when you set up the eduroam with username and pw

Checked all that - I'm using the script from my ITS depts. My experience with Eduroam is uneven. On my Uni's older network I can access Eduroam easily. I also had no problem accessing it at UCL on Saturday. But where my Uni has 'upgraded' their network, which is across most of the campus, I only get 'limited connection.' Same set up in each case. It maybe a driver issue, as has been observed in other places, but it maybe network related...

Now it´s works
Hey people,
I recently had a conversation with one of my IT friends and he had the solution. He said he was there to repair the network works sometimes. Anyway, he told me that the eudoram has some restriction on it , as soon as you take longer than 20 sec to login , you´re out and have to try again. It is in some way an international Eduroam rule so it might be at your place the same.
I hope this helps you.
PS : sorry for my bad english
PSS: i normaly copy my long e-mail addy so i can save time XD

Had the same problem with manual configuration, installing certificates, setting network profile and still it worked once for 20 times. So I went here : https://cat.eduroam.org/ . Clicked "eduroam user: download your eduroam installer" at the bottom and chose my university. Choosing proper Uni is essential, as these certs work only with certain school. Then installed it (no configuration, no unnecessary malware thanks god) and suddenly my login works like a charm. I suggest you give it a try.

There is a tor client for Android too. But be careful mate... twitter and Facebook are not worth the hurt you and your family will suffer if your caught...
Ill grab the tor apk and post it here for you... but please be careful.. have a pincode on your lockscreen at the very least and have a disposal plan if confronted. Ie a small container of acetone or something similar that can be poored into the Sim/memory slots to destroy the evidence if you are in risk of pla or similar looking through your phone... you know also that people, if they know about it, will give you up to help themselves so keep it quiet too... don't forget you can't be part of the solution/revolution if your not here so stay vigilant and always be paranoid ... better the be wrong and look silly 1000 times but you really will be silly if you don't take precautions and you get caught. It only needs to happen once....

If your Internet access is being blocked by your ISP or other parties, you can always set up and use a VPN. I use a VPN service that has servers all across the world to have access to sites like Hulu or use Pandora and OnLive, even though I don't live in the US or the UK.
They also allow most regular internet activities, except P2P, which is only permitted through one of their servers in Slovakia or Slovenia or something (can't really remember, I don't use P2P anyway).

I think the best option is VPN, it is fast, cheap and more important,
really secure and you can get it on the net.

As sohrab1985 mentioned, VPN is also very secure. There are no traces to leave if you encrypt your traffic as well, except on your own tab.
In terms of privacy protection, I recommend Dolphin HD because it can be configured to browse without saving history at all. I have not found any other SGT compatible browsers that are able to do that. In case you ever forget to remove your history...
BTW: No VPN system is full-proof. Use this advice to work around the system, not get yourself in trouble. If you always connect to a server in the US (for VPN), that could lead to suspicion. Use only when necessary or something.

To get browser to work in CM9 with mobile data you have to press menu and select request desktop site.
You welcome! It has something to do with the internal settings of the stock browser. Also an alternative to this is to download an alternate browser such as dolfin browser or opera

This isn't a SERVICE issue. It's your phone.
I used to have the same thing on another phone running CM7.
It's because your user agent in android is f'ked up.
Try this:
MORE -> Settings -> scoll all the way down to "Select User Agent"
Try other user agent setting other than Android, and you should connect.
Try IE6, iphone, etc...
The only fix is to install a correct user agent for android.
I've been searching all over for a fix to: "access is not allowed for this user agent." My stock browser has no settings to change user agent. Switching to iphone user agent was a workaround in the Dolphin browser settings, BUT...
With great joy I have discovered that problem was my Proxy entry in my Simple Mobile APN. Once I removed the proxy info, the user agent problem was solved!
Strange, because a few months ago the proxy was what I needed to connect, but now it was just causing problems.
I should look at dates on old posts more often.... delete this.

[APP][2.1+] VPN Settings

The app is completely free and ad-free, please try!

Thank you for your work.
I wanted to say that I am using this app QuickShortcutMaker (see the PlayStore for this, can't post outside links at the moment) to create a VPN-Settings shortcut.
Now I am searching to a way to activate a specific VPN-Profile with one click, but i think its not possible at the moment.
nice!
Actually using VPN service is the best for many reasons like changing IP address, be secured, encrypt your tunnel, speed up your connection, bypassing Firewalls and any restrictions to get free and unlimited browsing.. Personally I am using bVPN https://www.bvpn.com/en/faq/1032/ on my laptop and Galaxy note 4 with one account and I am totally satisfied..

Well depends how you look at it, yeah you will be using your own internet connection to go online and you will be able to access your own network. However it will cost you data from your carrier of course.
For me there was a free option from Asus that came with my router to setup a VPN and there are some free services out there as well (Mostly at limited speed and limited data amounts.). Just google "What is\ How to setup a VPN" and you`ll get all the answers you need:good:

[Q] WiFi tether on unlimited data plan

Now that we have a root method via the weaksauce exploit, has anyone found a way to tether via WiFi on an unlimited data plan?
I haven't yet pulled the trigger on an M8. WiFi tether is a make or break for me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORKING METHOD #1 -- FULL HOTSPOT
Tethering App:
WiFi Tether router
Setup Steps:
1. Install WeakSauce root
2. Install Wi-Fi Tether Router
3. Launce Wi-Fi Tether Router with the following settings:
SSID=<user selected>
ecryption type=wp2-psk
WIFI Password=<user selected>
wifi channel = 11
interface=kept it at 'wlan0
method=hostapd
Known Issues:
This tool supports both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure (Master) mode. Be sure to set to Master for best performance.
Credit:
users insol and brandonspell08 first identified and validated this method.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORKING METHOD #2 -- NATIVE TETHER
Follow the steps outlined here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708548
I just added hotspot to my plan for $30. Did not effect unlimited data.
Sent from my HTC One M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks, but I was more asking for a way to enable it without paying. I don't use it often enough to justify $30 a month, but when I need it, I REALLY need it.
To be clear, if I used it daily, or even weekly, I would happily pay. My use averages 3-4 times a year while business traveling where WiFi is sketchy or non-existant.

3.3 appeared to install fine, after trying to enable got an error that there were errors and to check the log
tried checking the log, got a popup saying something along the lines of "what the hell?! your phone took control over wifi!"
After that there seemed to be a duel between android and the app, and I couldn't enable/disable wifi in the android settings, and couldn't force close wifi tether either
rebooted phone, uninstalled tether, installed the 3.4 experimental
Appeared to install properly, but got 0 down/up and nothing appeared in log and laptop did not see a wifi broadcast

Really weird Wi-Fi question...

Okay, so at school on the Wi-Fi, I cannot log into Pandora, or Facebook. However, my friend on his droid can log in, as well as my other friend with her 4S. Now you need to access a portal to login to the Wi-Fi, but I logged onto my Wi-Fi on his Android and it is still unblocked even though on my Nexus 5 Pandora and Facebook is blocked. He logged into his Wi-Fi on my Nexus 5 and it's still blocked.
Why would only certain apps not work on my Nexus 5 on the WiFi but on their phones it still works? I'm really confused? Even if I login to the WiFi on my account on their phone it's still blocked...

You just solved your issue. Obviously your account has a restriction on it for accessing social sites, and their accounts don't. If you're blocked when using their phone, that's the only answer.

No, that isn't the case. Because if I login to my account on THEIR phone, it works. Only on my Nexus 5 does those apps not work. So, no, it isn't my account. Also they work on my Inspire 4G but again, not my Nexus 5.

Oh, you said you were blocked from their phones.
Well, I can't help. If WiFi works for some things, and not others.... Then it must be an issue with those apps, or your setup or something.
Have you tried clearing data on those apps in phones settings/apps.

Perhaps you should edit post 1 to make sense then because you said the opposite as per the quote.
It doesn't make sense. I brought my old phone to school and FB works and everything. Nexus 5? Nope. My Nexus 5 won't load it, like it's blocked but its not. Guess I'll bring my old phone if I want to use Wi-Fi at school for FB? I mean Wi-Fi works. I can search and go on Instagram. But FB? No.
Any ideas?? I also had to flash stock this weekend due to a boot loop. So that isn't it.

I'd speak to the school initially. Perhaps they have a rule that somehow affects your device but not others... Maybe they intent to block it all but it is only working for you.

Perhaps you're right, FB is blocked on desktop computers. And mobile browsers but apps on iOS and I guess other Androids besides my N5 it's unblocked. Maybe it's something with stock Android.

Or the traffic protocols are different for apps than web and thusly the admins forgot to block them.
Spoiler
Now I do not condone this action, however on desktop and web browsers there is a work around (sometimes) just add https:// before the social network site. Ex.https://www.Facebook.com
Or if it is blocked like that try http:// instead.
Again, if you get caught and punished because this works, I am not at fault.

do you have the "request desktop site" button checked? perhaps a change of browsers?

No lol it's the actual apps themeselves. FB just says there id no connection, Pandora loads infinitely but on my Inspire, another droid and an iPhone it works just fine. It isn't my account because I signed into the WiFi on their phones and their apps still loaded.
