[Q] How can you keep a blank/empty home screen? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to keep the home screen to the immediate right of Google Now completely empty to better see my glorious wallpapers, but I can't figure out how to keep that empty home screens from getting deleted.

Use a different launcher?

You can't have that particular screen be empty without it being your only screen on GEL. You will need to use a different launcher if that is your goal.

How about using desktop visualizer, choosing a random app, and using a blank image. It won't be empty, but it'll look empty.

You can see my blank desktop visualizer here, it does absolutely nothing when clicked.

More home screens

Anyone know how to add more home screens or maybe of an app that helps you create more?

Go to any blank screen hit settings and then edit - tap the fray plus sign at the bottom of the screen. You can only add one blank screen at each end of the screens display - but you can add one item, add another screen then go back adn delete that one item and have two blank screens.

IS there an app folder that can categorize apps?

Is there an app folder that can categorize apps? Just like Iphone 4, where you drag the app to the folder, it automatically categorize it, so as to save space... Thanks
Where are you looking for this folder to be? Home screen? Application drawer?

I use ADW Home, and there's a great new feature where you can categorise your app drawer... basically means you can hide stuff you don't want to see... you can't just hit one folder to see the hidden stuff, it's like press munu, then activate a different drawer group, but it's easy enough.
There are also some aps out there that do what you want, but I can't say what they are, nor have I used them.
i have ihome, this app mimic the iphone 4, the folder feature is very disappointing. but atleast its there...(no auto cate on droid.)
the home screen is 89% like iphone. atleast they gives you the iphone homescreen only it isn't smooth as.
Try FolderOrganizer

Home screen, just like ICr*p 4 when you tap on the folder, the sub-folder appears.
You can add folders on the home screen just like widgets then drag the applications inside it.

There is an app I think called apps organizer that lets you categorize apps, then you can add widgets to you're screen that look like an app shortcut, for a particular category, and when you tap it a folder with shortcuts to all apps in that category opens. I think it is apis organizer, I will go check in market. I had it before the last time I reset and debranded, actually never thought to reinstall it until just now.

Is there a way to categorize apps into folders Within the App drawer?
i dont really like cluttering up the homescreens but i would like to neaten up the app drawer as its full of crap that i hardly ever use but would still like to keep on the phone (google goggles, wikitude, google skymap) things like that
I use the feature in adw. The only improvement I would like to see is an easier way to switch drawers, perhaps icons at the top or bottom of the app drawer.

Change default buttons

I was curious if it was possible to change the default buttons at the bottom? I am talking about the phone, email, web and application buttons. I really just want to change the web one to be the browser I downloaded. I am rooted if that helps

Go into your app drawer, click and hold your browser that you want and drop it onto the spot you wanna put it. That should do it.

You can (with Go Launcher EX) depending on what you mean by "App screen"? If you mean "App drawer", you can create folders in the App Drawer by dragging any item on top of another.

Well I could on my iPhone but not here. I just tried with 2 side by side icons and all they do is change places!

OK figured it out . On the app page you go into edit mode. Then you long touch on an icon and drag it down to the bottom where a few options appear ,one being a folder. So after you drop it in the folder, it moves up to the screen and you can drop other icons into it.

Try again... side by side icons work... just long press one icon (red X appears), then drag onto any app icon AND KEEP HOLDING FIRST ICON until box appears underneath... then let go and folder name screen appears.
Nope no go , no little red boxes . But I do remember seeing them on my phone on one revision or other.

Drawer with scroll app?

Good day everyone I've been looking for an app that enables to draw a shape on your screen and use it at as a drawer to put things there and that will let me scroll up and down, not like a folder but more like an extra screen but of a size that I choose. Anyone knows of something like this? Thanks a lot
