[Q] Other Android OS? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello again all, since this is my first time owning a Nexus device, I was wondering if it was possible to have another version of android on it? i.e. Sense, touchwiz, Optimus OS, etc. Not that I have a problem with AOSP, I was just curious cause too much AOSP gets boring eventually. I'm not talking about themes either, like actual OS.
While on the subject of this, completely seperate question, will Ubuntu OS ever be available for the N5? I never tried it but it looks really cool.

Its possible to get these oem skinned roms but it needs to be ported by people who have the skill/time/patience to do so.
And I would assume that Ubuntu mobile OS will eventually come to the n5.

just bought htc 7 pro help needed

i do like the phone and partially like win7 mobile but i was wanting to run android ive tried the info but i cannot get anything to work.
htc 7 pro mobile running wm7
also reading some articles im scared to update what is best and safe for this phone i have stock firmware never updated as of new.
thanks
You cannot run Android on Windows Phone. End of story.
well how are others running android , its not impossible from what ive read. your a bit defeatist lmaO.
if wp7 can run Android, we would have run both on our device.
Actually due to wp7s locked down nature it could not, within reason, dual-boot. You could certainly port android to it given the time but you couldn't jump the android partition from wp7. I suppose it may be possible to flash android onto it (terrible is that it is) and create something to launch the wp7 partition from there but even then it's highly unlikely. There are a few devices supposedly dual-booting over in China but I would be more likely to bet that they're just generic hd7s and needed a free is to use. Regardless, its not happening any time soon and I don't know why you'd want that bug infested laggy garbage on your phone anyway.
they got the HD7 running Android.. and that's it.. pretty much because it is identical to the HD2.. which has been hacked to run android for a long time.
it might be possible for other HTC phones now that they're able to do custom roms.. but there are no guarantees.
If you wanted an android device, why didn't you just buy an android?
they have better hardware available and more flexible software..

[Q] rom question

Excuse this question if it is in the wrong area.
I recently rooted my phone and am running reverted aosp which i am really enjoying. a few of my co-workers have windows phones. such as the focus. Now i understand that windows os is not open source and most of the roms for the sensation at least are either Sense or Non-sense, are there anything rom-wise in development that mimic windows phones operation? thanks in advance-
Check out Launcher 7 on the market, not rom, but awesome launcher. Identical!
Thanks techno I've actually used that launcher for months at a time but as you know it's merely a launcher and. Doesn't effect apps or anything else at all. Looking for a rom that actually changes most functions to text based like with windows

Sorry man, but they don't have but a few roms like that. There are over 450 android devices. You should install CM7 though, you will get better battery life.
well i like rev.aosp and battery life really isnt a concern. i run cm7 on my nook so i'm familiar with it, was just wondering if i could run a mango mod on my pyramid. guess ill have to just buy one

[Q] [2 ALL DEVS] Any chance to see WebOS/iOS/WP7 on NS/NS4G?

With the UnBrickable Mod?
I read that webOs was ported to the Evo, and many mobile Os can be flashed on the HD2.
So, is possible to see other mobile Operating systems on our smartphone?
Share your experience, i wanna know about the incredible world of mobile operating systems
Happy New Year 2 all the estimated Developers and all the members of XDA!!!

Far from it. The reason we'll probably never see webos or wp7 on the nexus s is that neither of those os's are fully open source like android, in fact wp7 is completely closed source.
webOS was ported to the Evo 3D but virtually nothing worked from what I remember, making it far from useful, useable, or anything past booting really.
Ios - Never been ported to anything non-apple (as far as I know).
Meego - Possible I guess, but I dont know why anyone would bother putting that amount of time into it.
WebOS - Looking possible, its going open source i hear, but the nexus S community is only going to decrease due to the release of the Galaxy Nexus
Windows Mobile - Dead
Windows Phone 7 - This was ported to the HD2 as the HD2 was used as a test phone for the OS and the drivers got leaked! Microsoft used it as it was a high spec Windows Mobile phone. (It got android as it was very similar to other HTC phones that ran Android, such as the N1 and Desire)
Ubuntu - I guess, probably wouldn't be too hard to get going, why anyone would want to I have no idea.
BB OS - hahaha...
so.... no interest.

I realize this isn't what you're looking for, but if you're just interested in emulating the WP7 look, give Launcher7 from the market a try. I'd also recommend using the Ubermusic music player with the optional metro theme.

How come so little interest on getting Android OS running on an iPhone?

Whenever I get into a debate with my friends over iPhone vs. Android, I always point out that I don't have an issue with the devices themselves, I just simply find Android OS to be far better than iOS, which I won't go into now.
While I love my GS3, I never thought the iPhone was a bad device, although the screen is a little small.
Is it possible to port Jelly Bean to an iPhone 5? I think that would be kind of sick. I searched around for a thread but did not see anything beyond a port that was on an iPhone 3G. Is it something specific that prevents this from happening, such as a locked bootloader, different kernels, etc?
And as an Android user, would any of you ever be interested in something like this?
And while I imagine this is a pretty stupid question I hope someone might be able to entertain this. Thanks.

Sailfish OS

Hey guys!
So I know I'm not a developer and all... But I'm sure like most people here, I'm a Linux lover! I've attempted to ditch Windows as much as possible (that may make me a tad more addicted to Linux than a few I suppose), and Android has been one of the loves of my life! As much as I love it though, there are more mobile distros being released this year, one of them being the updated version of Sailfish OS. I've been following it for a bit, and it seems like the perfect way to keep am older phone, like the Blaze, usable. It is supposed to run well on lower-end, single-core devices, and even better on dual-core ones. Jolla, the company developing it, have released the SDK, and have communicated that Android apps can run natively on the platform and that apps age being made for Sailfish OS in order to eventually replace these. The interface looks gorgeous, and it simply makes an average phone look very elegant. I'm unsure of how complicated it would be to get it operating on a phone, whether CWM or a similar recovery could install it, or of it'd be a viable alternative to Android... So I figured why not start a discussion on whether this is doable or not?... Any thoughts guys?

Sailfish
Yeah, it would be awesome for the blaze to get a sailfish port, probably to dual boot with CM or any other AOSP ROMS. And why not, close relatives to the blaze have successfully dualbooted some ROMS. Anyway, I know how hard it can be to pull that off, but will it be worth it? In my OPINION...YEESS! I hope someone actually does it...:silly:
