Anybody else having issues with LTE. On my phone it always wants to revert to H or H+ I have to cycle airplane mode to get LTE to come on pretty frequently. Anybody else seen issues with this?

that would be because in your area there is a better hspa+ connection than a lte connection. if you try forcing lte in that kind of situation, it could lower your battery life due to bad signal.
Ok, its just weird because my wife has the n5 too and she seems to be on LTE more than I am. And usually gets better speeds too. Maybe I will just take her place on the couch! By the way Simms do you EVER stop helping!?

Where I work, there is generally only edge network speeds (AT&T). In my building though, we have cell repeaters. While getting close to the repeaters, I can put my skyrocket into airplane mode and then re-enable the radios and suddenly, I'll get 4G (albeit slow 4G ~ 800kb/s-1.1 Mb/s) speeds.
1. Why wouldn't the phone auto-switch to the better network
2. Why can I get 4G through the repeater, when outside my building I can only get Edge? Seems more plausible that the repeater would cause even more loss on the network throughput...
just curious to see what others think about this.
The repeater is powered with a much better antenna than your cell. So it can pick up the 4g signal where your phone can't. It then sends that signal to you. So it doesn't surprise me that you get 4g service around it when you normally wouldn't without it. What does surprise me is why your phone doesn't automatically pick that up. Dunno

even weirder was that until I updated to ICS recently, I couldn't even get the 4G, while everyone with Iphones could switch into airplane mode and back and get 3G at least. odd.
guess it's just the wonders of working 30 miles away from civilization...

By 4G I'd assume we're thinking of HSPA+.

yeah, it's not "real" 4G for sure. I'm only getting a max of 1Mb/s down. Usually around 400-500kb/s. but definitely beats out 15kb/s that I WAS getting
The phone indicates it as 4G on the icon.
I rooted my T-mobile galaxy blaze 4g and installed ICS 2.3.6. A short time later I upgraded to CM10.0.0. It was there that I noticed that I lost my 4G capability. I only have 2G/3G service now. Where did it go and how can I get it back? Please help!

Go into settings/wireless/more/mobile networks/network mode and check mark the one with lte. This should solve your problem
Did that but still showing 2G/3G and an H+ for my network connectivity. Could it be because T Mobile does not recognize this particular ROM yet and therefore has not authorized it to carry 4g? Kind of at a loss as what to do anybody with other suggestions please.

H+ is 4g

OK cool. I hate to belabor this topic but it why is the 4g intermittent and 3g and 2g seem to be default? It only goes into H+ intermittently it's in very few circumstances. Primarily remains in 3g and menu allows me to go down to 2g. I'm pretty new, I've done a lot of reading, I'm just trying to understand. Thank you for all your help.

Its just as frequent as your last ics , the difference is 4g from T-Mobile never leaves the screen but you were still alternating 3g/4g just the same. Another thing is T-Mobile has less 4g towers than say sprint or atnt sooo really nothings changed. Enjoy !!!
TMO ROMs show 4G full time to avoid panic.
TMO calls HSPA14 and up "4G".
H+ is HSPA+21 and higher.
Phone automatically ramps down to H or "3G" when data connection is more or less idle. Under use, it'll ramp up to H+. Potential battery saving...
Nothing has changed compared with before, except the dummy icon.
Does anyone know if the nexus 5 supports h+ on t mobile UK as I don't seem to be able to get it.

Stock ROMs don't show the + ... So it may well be connected to the highest

Really I thought it might be the case I hop so , is there a way of testing ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Well, you could check your speeds and see if they line up with what you expect for HSPA+.
The most definite way is to start a file downloading (one that will take a few seconds) then go to Settings -> About Phone -> Status and look at "Mobile Network Type." HSPA+ only kicks in when you're actually transferring data, hence needing to set up the download.

Just do speed tests I guess. See what others are getting. Compare?
This app will tell you all about your connection
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet&hl=en
You may see it fluctuate and go to 2g when data isn't being transmitted.
Thanks very much your right the apps says h+ .

Just got my Nexus 5, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S 3. With the S3 I used to see LTE speeds around 25mbps, as high as 50Mbps when right next to a tower. Now with the Nexus I barely get over 1Mbps, what's the deal. Do I have to change something in the settings? My device says LTE and my signal strength is about 88-89 dbm.
Thanks for any help.

sounds like its an apn or on att side.
Yes I think i saw something about APN setting on Nexus a while ago. I'll see what I can find. Or if you have a link that would be cool!

Its an APN make sure its correct and your account is provisioned properly to that device

Followed the APN settings here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434995. It seems my APN settings are correct. I wonder if something is going on with the towers. I live in New Castle Delaware. I'll be going to Philadelphia later I'll check and see if I get the same results.
Problem solved! I didn't do anything special except put in a bunch of apn's that didn't do anything. Upon going back to original APN and doing a bunch of reboots and airplane mode it just started working. Speeds are very normal for my location.

Does anyone else have problems where their sms messages do not send and calls do not work? This is solved with a reboot so am I right in assuming this is a software issue?

I posted something like this in another thread recently. Where I live I'm on the fringe of a LTE tower and never have more than one bar (and often showing none). Turns out that when LTE network is bad the phone will switch back and forth between LTE and 3g, causing me to receive text messages sometimes more than 20 minutes delayed.
All I have done is switch to 3g preferred in network settings and everything's fine. I also have significantly better standby battery life, as the phone isn't changing back and forth anymore (that and LTE will always use more battery anyway).
Hope that helps/works for you.

This happens as well with custom ROMs, I have to disable LTE using Cataclysm due to this delay.
If you guys are having this problem while WIFI is on, it's a known problem that Google knows about but hasn't fixed yet. You have to set the phone to only use 3G to fix it for now.
i used to have this on my old htc one but not on my nexus 5
Thanks for the reply guys, um im having this problem on 3g and wifi, mostly happens on 3g though as im out and about most days so I hardly ever use wifi
