StickMount Problems - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently stock rooted. Using a Meenova adapter and a 64 GB SanDisk card that I have formatted to FAT32. This device and card work perfectly on my Nexus 7 2013 which is also stock rooted. But when i try to use it on my Nexus 5 Stickmount fails to fully mount anything. No notification in the status bar. and can't unmount it either. Keep getting a "mount service is busy, try again later" toast. Can't kill it or unmount. Have to three finger hard reboot my device. Is there compatibility issues with the Nexus 5? Any suggestions?

There is another app that you can try such as: USB OTG Helper
Did you ever solve this problem?

I have issues with stick mount. I have to clear data when I get that "service is busy" which I usually get if I use otg too soon after a reboot

[Q] File System Format Help

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums, but I need help getting my TF300T to mount storage devices formatted as either NTFS or exFAT file systems. I have tried both a USB flash drive and a portable hard drive formatted as NTFS through the keyboard dock; my transformer recognizes the devices but will not mount them. And with exFAT, it simply says "Damaged SD card".
I'm running CyanogenMod version 9, and if anyone knows if there is a way to make the device mount and read these file systems that would be greatly appreciated. I have files above 4GB that I would like to use on my device, but FAT32 can't support them. Thank you!
Try NTFS Mounter app, free on the market.
That app doesn't seem to work on the TF300, thanks though. Any other thoughts?

OTG USB

My moto g 16gb arrives tomorrow. OTG USB is very important to me. I've read that kit Kat disable the functionality. I know there are a lot a third party work around apps that get the job done but I'd prefer a kernel that does so. Is anyone aware of one? I can't find it listed anywhere. Thank!

There is a Motorola update coming that fixes OTA in Kit Kat should be here any day now.
OTA in KitKat is natively integrated by Motorola. No app needed. There is setting for it in storage settings.
Its working on kitkat

Depends on which variant you have - it seems that the single sim variants don't have native support for OTG USB Storage under 4.4.2 (they do for other OTG USB pheripals), but as another poster mentioned it looks like an OTA may be on the way to rectify this.

German OTA is already in the wild and the UK should come soon too.

If your device is rooted ... then in my opinion ...(if it should be a third party app) best thing is stickmount ..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
Using the dual sim XT033, the Kitkat update retains the USB OTG functionality and has storage dismount and format options in the storage menu. You can now even write on the mounted storage now.
One word of caution. USB OTG works on FAT32 (files less than 4GB) but not for NTFS. For NTFS you'll have to root. Maybe a more experienced user can tell us what Linux partitions are supported without root for filesizes >4GB.
Anyone has an idea about using USB Mass Storage with Moto G ? I mean mount internal storage for example in Total Commander as drive like pendrive.
NTFS does work without root if you've installed Total Commander with USB Stick Plugin :good:
Since the new German OTA (176.44.1) the phone wants to format all NTFS drives, and if you unplug it there will be a Notification stating "USB drive not inserted"
Didn't try to use fat32 yet...

[Q] USB 3.0 OTG cable (WD 1TB)

Hi all, I wanna drop a query here.
Did any body tried to connect Western Digital Hard drive to Note Pro 12.2? I did everything, but really, I was disappointed because I wasn't able to connect it using OTG Cqble.
What format is it? I haven't been able to get ntfs to work yet, each of my drives show up as blank drives. I'm not about to change them to another format just for this tablet... migrating files off and then back on after formatting wouldn't be worth my time.

I was able to connect both an NTF and. EXFAT drive to my unrooted NotPro. Had to use special software of the ntf and then it was read only. With the exfat it is r/w and connects with native software.

You mean that if I will root my NotPro, then I will be able to connect my 1TB to it, and transfer files, or only reading?

If you are willing to root you can connect an NTFS drive and read or write to it. Not sure it matters what size
If you are not willing to root you can only read ntfs but can read/write an exfat drive. Mine is 1Tb. I believe exfat does have a size limit but not sure what it is.

Ironically is not as clear cut as that. I'm rooted and had issues with NTFS. Not sure why, but my 64 gb usb flash drive formatted NTFS would not work, neither would a 1tb Western digital passport. I tried stickmount, paragon and usb otg helper. Eventually dumping all three apps and formatting the flash drive to exfat was the only solution that would work. I'm only monkeying around so I'm not about to try to backup the hard drive to another one just to reformat it to exfat. I guess I'll buy a hard drive someday for this tablet. .. I'm starting to think that exfat is the most reliable way to ensure compatibility.

Well - yes and no.
I've just ordered this tablet and am very exited.
Regarding ntfs:
I tried this on my Note3. Yes i could read/write ntfs drives.
However I could only read 1 logical drive.
I had a 64 Gig stick partitioned in 2 logical ntfs drives. I could only access/detect one of them.
I read that this somehow relates to SE-linux in "enforcing" mode.
Couldn't figure out how to set to "permissive". A simple shell command didn't work. Yes I tried SU'ing the command as well.
Will try to find that post again.
If it is a se-linux related issue it stands to reason that it'll translate to Note Pro as well - doesn't it?
Regards
Elo

[Q] USB OTG mount problem

HI guys, I am very satisfied with this phone when I got it a week ago. However, I was facing sometimes my phone unable to mount USB OTG storage, I mean the USB drive won't lit at all / detect by phone, I have to reboot the phone then it only gets detected. Any other way round to solve this without rebooting?
I haven't had trouble using my OTG usb stick so far. Have you tried using Nexus Media Importer? It lets you mount/unmount on demand.
Does it show the USB drive as unmounted in the Storage menu?
Also, did you try a different thumb drive with a different filesystem on it? I cannot reproduce your issue at all.
Ok after my investigation, the USB OTG still works but just the USB port of my phone unable to supply power, if I use a power bank + USB hub then connect to my phone, my phone detects the USB drive. Similar to somewhat my phone requires external power to mount. But if I reboot my phone then the USB OTG work properly again though. Until I remove and remount it next time, then the problem occur again.
Currently my phone setup as my signature. No custom kernel but just recovery.

Ok I know whats the problem now. You can try during deep sleep insert in your USB OTG. It can't detect at all even if you remove and reinsert. Have to reboot the phone. So my guess is right I think. The phone have to screen on to insert USB OTG or else it cannot detect.
Did any one try a 1tb portable hard drive?

few older phones supported 500gig portable hard drive too but did not support 1tb, my phone will be delivered tomorrow I'll update here then.
Fingers crossed.
I just tried a 16GB USB drive through an OTG cable, and it didn't detect it. My screen was on, and I was running stickmount as well.
I had to restart the phone to get it to detect.
I have the same issue with my N8010. Have to restart to get it to recognise the USB.
Hopefully, there will be a simple solution to this.

Well it seems in my case it's rather random, sometimes USB drives (or HDD's) will mount, other times nothing happens at all, while some drives refuse to mount at all.
Maybe it's faulty cable don't know?
I have problem
I was able to mount USB 3.0 64 gb without any formating, and it shows in settings too, but now I can't see it in settings and in El file explorer it is very slow.. What should I do, I can't format to fat32
Same Problem
I can not get any drive to stay mounted, cable works fine on nexus 5 so do the drives but no luck with opo has anyone any info on this since oct 2014 post

Question external storage 0B used 0B total?

Hi there, I've got a Pixel 7 Pro device here, running rooted TD1A.221105.001 which doesn't seem to be able to read external storage properly. I've tried connecting various usb-sticks, it manages to display the correct partition label under Settings -> Storage -> Dropdown box at the top, but selecting that external disk displays "0B used" & "0B total" & file explorer apps show no hint of that external storage.
Does this work for other users, or is it a bug that doesn't get talked about because not a lot of people use that feature? Or did I mess up my ROM by rooting it and instaling a few Magisk modules?
Does anybody have a more useful reply to my question than a laughing smiley?
Or maybe you could explain the error in my questioning that caused me to only receive that smiley in response instead of a useful reply?

What filesystem do you have on your external storage / usb sticks?
What cable / adapter do you use to connect them to your pixel?
I've tried various sticks, filesystems fat32 & exfat. for connecting I've tried several adapters.

seems strange, maybe its OS related as you said.
In my case its working correctly for both fat32 and exfat.
Hard to say whats the root cause of this but imo you could try to check it again on stock, clean os.

Format the drive directly from the phone, dont format it on computer.
