When Windows detects the device for the first time, point it to where you have extracted the contents of that zip.
64bit drivers for Windows?
Motorola Device Manager is the official Moto G driver source. No mention of 64bit on their page.
These are taken from the "Motorola Device Manager" install package.
Just remove the ".img" from the file and install (can't upload a .msi file)
was long looking for the 64 bit driver. thanks for sharing so much!
Windows -.-
However, if you install these drivers Windows will recognize your device as a portable media player and asks every time if you are sure if you want to copy the files to your "portable media player". And no, you can't deactivate this annoying message ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com...file-when-copying-mp3s-to-mtp?forum=w7itproui )!
Anyway, thanks for the drivers :good:
And now I have an additional reason for hating Microsoft...
I tried pointing the Device manager to those drivers but it doesn't use any of them. I get the failed "Cannot install this hardware" message. I'm using Windows XP.

I dont get that option??
Im using Windows 7 professional 64 bit.
When i rename a file, it does not allow me to change the file extension?
When i click it to rename it, the file does not even end with ".img", it ends with ".msi" but windows still sees it as a "Disk Image File".

I guess you don't see the extension (the real one) because the default setting on your Windows explorer is set to hide extensions.
You can either go to "Tools->Folder Options->View" and look for something like "Hide extension for know types",
or open a CMD (Start menu->run->cmd.exe) go to whatever directory you saved the file, and rename the file manually with:
ren Motorola_Mobile_Drivers_64bit.msi.img Motorola_Mobile_Drivers_64bit.msi
like this:

Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it.
I got impatient and just ended up transferring the file to my device, and using es file explorer to rename the file, then transferred it back to my PC.
But I will unhide my file extensions to save myself the headache for next time!

Actually, the opening post in the zip file contains XP drivers, which doesn't work under Windows7 32 bit.
So, please attach the 32 bit drivers! Thank you.

Great looking, I'll try it out later. I was looking through the TOOLS folder and noticed the older PagePool app was still used... You might want to update the kitchen to this one so everything is newer

This is a quick tutorial on creating your own custom splash1 image along with a flashable hboot package.
**Remember, in order to flash custom splash1 screens via hboot, you must have s-off via unrevoked forever.

After:
Tools You Need:
Image Manipulation Tool (Photoshop, Gimp, MSPaint, anything that can save bmp files really.
NBIMG command-line splash<-->image converter tool [Windows Download] or [Linux Download] (Original Dev Thread)
Zipping tool (7zip, winzip, anything that can put files in a .zip)
This file (android-info.txt)
How-To:
Download and extract the files linked above and place them somewhere familiar to you.
In your image creation/manipulation tool, create a new image. Set the image size to 480x800. (If you already have an image in mind, open that and resize it)
Create/modify/customize the image however you like.
Save the image as splash1.bmp file. Ensure that you are saving the file as a 24bit RGB color bitmap. To make things easy, save the image in the same folder where you extracted the nbimg tool.
Open a command or terminal window and CD to your nbimg folder.
Type in the following command: nbimg -F splash1.bmp -w 480 -h 800
If successful, nbimg should have created an nb file called 'splash1.bmp.nb'.
Rename 'splash1.bmp.nb' to 'splash1.img'.
Take your newly created splash1.img file and the 'android-info.txt' that you downloaded earlier, and place it in a new ZIP file called 'PB31IMG.zip'.
Place your newly created PB31IMG.zip on the root of your SD card, and reboot to hboot. (adb reboot oem-42)
If everything went smoothly, you should be prompted to install your custom splash1.
Enjoy!
PS: Here is the STOCK splash1, if you feel the need to revert back.
Thanks for posting this today! Exactly what I was hoping for.
Thank you for this, I tried to find this and found many alternatives but all were unsuccessful.

The app crashed for me on XP and Win7. The original thread states we have to have the -D switch which is the device id. Is this true? If so, what is the incredibles id?
Code:
NBH arguments: (only when converting from BMP to NBH)
-D <model_id> Generate NBH with specified Model ID (mandatory)
-S <chunksize> NBH SignMaxChunkSize (64 or 1024)
-T <type> NBH header type, this is typically 0x600 or 0x601

No you do not need that. I created at least a dozen splash1's before posting this how-to. Never had to enter any switches, with the exception of -w -h.
nbimg keeps crashing on me .. Win7 and also in XP Mode I will try on my laptop and see if it works there.
Photoshop CS5 wouldn't make my file 256 color so I saved it in 16bit mode then took it into paint and saved it as 256 color. Not sure if this is what is causing the problems or not.
Can this have images or just text maybe thats my problem.
Edit: same on my laptop Win7 and in XP mode on that too, I tried it with the -F switch and left off the -w and -h switches and had the same problem.

The program began, things were working, and then a small pop-up window comes up saying program not responding, then it waits, and then it says "Program stopped working" and gives you a button to close.

Do me a favor. Download the inverted unrevoked splash1 I posted earlier. See if your OS will let you extract the image out of it. (Rename the .img to .nb and run the same argument you were using to create the splash1) See if you can do that.

now grab the apk that you want to decompile and place it in the place-apk-here-for-modding folder
Step 9:
open script now enter 22 into command press enter, press corresponding number for your apk for ex. 1 then press enter, now press 9 then enter... APK should now be decompiling (decompiled apk should be in the projects folder)
[size=+2]Compiling[/size]
You do nearly the same thing for compiling an apk press 22 and enter to select what project you want to do, then 11; your apk should be compiled
Let me know if anyone has any problems with this
I like how you were excited enough to post about making a post later.
Lol I was going to do it then but I got sidetracked...

Going to try this method...
I did my framework-res.apk last night, font color changed for the pop-up windows. seemed to work fine, but then once it booted, i noticed that my volume bar was showing the loading spinner instead of the slider (whoops) and I was unable to get to the volume controls due to FC'ing.

alos note you will have to delete the resourace arsc out of the apk u decompled and let the apk tool recompile a new one.. espcaly so if using a apk from a diffrent phone
Yeah I replaced the res directory, the manifest and the resources file with the one that apk tool compiled... I hadn't seen this post until I had already tried another method... Wife sprained her ankle so I won't have the time to try it for a couple of days.
Can I add a color to the colors.xml file the point to it in the styles.xml item?
Sent from my GS4G using XDA app.
how do I get the xml to stick when changing colors.xml in the value folder? When you get to the step to delete from the "keep" folder the value folders aren't there, they are hidden.

Just tried your guide and it worked succesfully! Seems like all the files decompiled - I just needed to have a quick look at the decompiled AndroidManifest.xml and that file was decompiled.
I am curious about the error I received.
That's the console output (Windows 7 x64 command line):

You realize, Java has to be in your path. Also, you should also install twframework.

I use apktool. It works on all platforms and it it uses a later bug free version. Apk manager is a big batch file that uses an old extremely buggy edition of apktool Yes all decompile tools are based on smali, baksmali, and apktool. In fact apktool requires Smali and baksmali to decompile classes.dex and odex files.
The steps to use apktool are.
1. Download apktool(Google it)
2. palace it in an apktool folder on your desktop or somewhere.
3. Download any thing else on the website.for your OS.
4. Unzip everything and add them to your folder. Add the folder to your path or CD to it every time
5. Run terminal or CMD
6.TYPE
apktool if (path to framework Res.apk)
Apktool if (path to twframework Res.apk)
(Now you never will have to worry about dependencies unless you have a new from)
Apktool d apkorjarfile output folder
(Example....
.. apktool d /users/airfluip/desktop/Settings.apk /users/airfluip/desktop/decompiledsettings )
Now it shows progress. It may take some time.
If you get PNG errors, it will still decompile, but copy the original drawable-hdpi folder Into the decompiled one after decompile
Next make changes
Next
Apktool b /foldertodecompiled.
You should have the apk in the "apk" folder in the decompile folder

This is a problem with your system and java not getting along. ensure you have the latest edition of java installed. If so uninstall it and get a fresh download from the java Website
If the problem persists...um ahhhhh back up your important data and do a system restore? or ask someone else I'm not an i.t. Expert but a fresh start is always nice....

Hi guys
I need your help.
I'm adding Hebrew support to Valhalla Final.
I was able to decompile all files using APKTOOL like you explained
Added all files RES\Values-IW (with strings taken from SGS-i9000 ROM)
but I get error while trying to re-compile these files :
* Browser
* Contacts
* Framework-res
* Street
* Talk2
* Touchwizcalendar
* Tweaks
Also all the APKs that I successfully recompiled - do not work and not appear in the phone and cause Force Close when I launch them.

Hello,
I searched a lot how to enable the rotation of the lockscreen without third-party application, and I finally found.
I share this change with you.
This operation works with all phones that work with GG / ICS (I have not tested on Cupcake / Donut. / Froyo / Honeycomb).
This tutorial seems very long, but this is explained in great detail for better understanding and to be accessible to all.
First and foremost: I am not responsible if you break, or if others problems occur on your phone. You and only you are responsible. Thank you
You must be root to apply the changes. Here's what happens on my Nexus S:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
For this we will use apktool which will allow us to uncompil the framework-res.apk of your ROM and adb to replace the original framework.
Note: I see throughout this tutorial as well as adb and java (to run apktool) are already installed on your computer and the drivers too of your phone to work with adb.
Due to a bug in the framework of apktool ICS we are obliged to decompile the framework-res.apk with apktool 4.2 and recompile with apktool 4.3.
Download: apktool 4.2
Download: apktool 4.3
Note: Download in the same folder as adb, it's will simplify the task later.
In our case, we will consider that our working folder is: C:\android_debug
I recommend doing the same to be simpler.
apktool and adb only work with the command prompt, so it must be run.
To do this:
Windows XP: Start -> Run -> cmd.exe
Windows Vista / Seven: -> Start -> in the search bar type cmd.exe and press Enter
This window is displayed (a few lines of text can change, as the first of which is that your version of Windows):
We see that the command prompt is placed directly into your default user folder (here C:\Users\Thomas), so you have to stand in our working folder:
cd c:\android_debug
We will have to decompile framework-res.apk, if you have the rom zip place it in the same directory, otherwise it must be extracted from your phone.
Connect your phone to your computer and then, still in the command prompt (cmd) write:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
Note: if say toyou it can not find adb ... it's either you have him not placed in C:\android_debug where or that you should write its extension: adb.exe
The command will be this: adb.exe pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
Will be the same for the rest of the tutorial, write adb.exe rather than adb.
The framework-res.apk is now in your working folder.
We will "install" the framework-res.apk to let apktool use it then:
java -jar apktool43.jar if framework-res.apk
There will now be extracted with apktool 4.2
java -jar apktool42.jar d framework-res.apk
If all goes well you usually this:
We must update the necessary files to activate rotation on the lockscreen.
Go to the following folder: C:\android_debug\framework-res\res\values and open this file with your favorite files editor: bools.xml
Search config_enableLockScreenRotation value and change the false to true:
Save and close the file.
All changes are made, we will be able to recompile the framework
So back to the command prompt (yes the window of the 1970s )
Type this to run compiling the new framework-res.apk:
java -jar apktool43.jar b framework-res framework-res-new.zip
If all goes well the last message from the command prompt is this:
If you get errors like these:
Nothing serious! apktool just tells you it can not find default translations of some words, but he found in French / Or else.
Note: If you have other errors and framework-res-new.zip is not created is that you made a editing error or that you have the wrong version of apktool.
Now, everything is well and the framework-res-new.zip is created in your working directory (which I recall is C:\android_debug)
The purpose of the step is to replace the file resources.asrc in the original framework-res.apk by the new one placed in framework-res-new.zip
You should open it with your management software zip archives (WinRar here) and then extract the file resources.arsc:
Once the extracted file you can close the archive.
You must rename the file framework-res.apk in framework-res.apk.zip:
When this file is renamed you must open it with your management software archive and then delete the file ressources.arsc:
Leave open the archive and return to your working folder. You must drag the file resources.arsc previously extracted from the archive:
Commit the changes in your management software archive. Rename the file framework-res.apk.zip in framework-res.apk
So we are almost done, this last step is to replace the framework-res.apk in your phone. We will use adb, so back to the command prompt in order to type this:
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb shell reboot
Explanations:
adb remount: allows you to have root privileges on the phone
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk: sends the new framework-res.apk on the phone and replaces the existing one
adb shell reboot: reboot the phone
I hope this tutorial is clear enough and that helped you
For any spelling mistakes thank you for let me know by PM (I'm a french teenager).

Getting error at compile
Hi,
i was following your guide for the ICSSGS 4.2 ROM. when compiling i got a load of errors like:
Exeption in thread "main" brut.Androlib.AndrolibException: brut.common.BrutExeption.........
Have you had any experience with this kind of error and do you know how to fix it?
thanks!
Hi,
Have you uncompiled the framework-res.apk with apktool42 ? Then re-compiled with apktool43? Your rom is deodex?
maybe he recompile "apktool d framework-res.apk",instead of framework-res..
I have not got the line "enable lock screen rotation"
I have" bool name="lockscreen_isPortrait">true</bool>"
and changed it to false
EDIT: It didnt' work

Thanks for your replies, I will try again tonight and let you know if it works. i did in fact recompile to the framework-res.apk . maybe thats the problem.
EDIT: thanks for the tips guys, the problem was the .apk extension when recompiling!
I am very thankful for this. I've wanted this for a long time since my phone is docked horizontal all the time. I even tried reinstalling widget locker to do this, but just never like any of the non stock lock screens as much.
Tip: when doing build to new file named framework-res-new.zip like in instructions, instead build to same file name framework-res.zip
Also need to have aapt.exe in the folder as apktool.
Otherwise I would always get errors otherwise using apktool.
Hello,
It doesn't work on my sgs2 ICS 4.0.3 XWLPG deodex with the Jkay mod.
Edit : I have also tried to modify the line "lockscreen_isPortrait" = true
Still not work
Works very nice with Defy+ and Quarx JB-Rom!
But I have an additional question: Could the notifications while lockscreen be disabled this way too?
great tut

Hi,
I hope it is o.k. to post this question in the Xoom forum!?
In the download folder of my Motorola Xoom there are several files that I can't delete any more.
These files are pdf- and/or mp3-files that originally had a German umlaut in their file name. By copying/pasting these files into the download directory, they were somehow damaged. Now, the filenames are showing some strange characters and the file sizes are 0 kB.
As soon as I try to delete one of those files, my Xoom shows a message, that the file can't be deleted.
I already tried out to use several different file explorers which didn't work.
Unfortunately, even "MyPhoneExplorer" can't delete the files by connecting the Xoom to the PC. There, the files don't show up.
Renaming of the files doesn't work either and overwriting the files using a new file with the same name also doesn't work.
Can somebody of you help me with this problem?
How can I get rid of these 0kB files?
Thanks a lot!
Its perfectly OK to ask questions, no problem this is to be a source of information. It should however be in the Q&A section. That said
You can try to delete the file using "android terminal emulator" app
In there enter the following command substituting the file name for whatever u r trying to delete
Code:
rm /sdcard/yourfilename.whatever
If that does not work and u r rooted you can try the same command after have superuser permission. Do this
Open terminal and enter
Code:
su
Press enter after that and allow superuser, then enter the same command above.

Thanks for your idea! ...unfortunately it doesn't work
Problem seems to be the filename. It was corrupted while unpacking files from a packed archive. The original filename contained several so called"umlaute" (German special characters) which the system on the Xoom obviously can't handle correctly. These "umlaute" characters were replaced by some other curious characters during extraction.
Example: "11. ڵoԠ(ڢer-unter-ober-Գterreicher).mp3" is the filename after unpacking the file. Before, it was " 11. Üuoö (Über-unter-ober-österreicher).mp3"
As soon as I try to remove the file, a message appears, telling me that there is no such file. At the same time, the terminal shows the corrupted filename, but suppressing the corrupted characters.
No chance to delete :crying:
I hope, I could explain it so that you can understand what happens (or what doesn't happen). Any further ideas?
Thanks a lot!
PS: corrupted files are not only mp3 but also some pdf and doc files. All of them show up with a size of 0Byte on the Xoom, while the original file size is shown as soon as I connect the Xoom to my PC using MyPhoneExplorer (which, btw, also isn't able to delete)

Some of them are, others not. It makes no difference. If I try to delete an entire directory, containing one of those corrupted files, the whole directory can't be deleted. Anyway, "normal" files (uncorrupted) in the relevant directory can be removed individually... except those 0-Byte-files
No more ideas? ....anyone?
I can't believe, that it should really be impossible to delete corrupted files

when using the terminal rm command you need to escape special characters ( i.e spaces, parenthese etc ) with a backslash or put the file name in quotes. so you file name in question can be removed by
Code:
rm 11.\ Üuoö\ \(Über-unter-ober-österreicher\).mp3
or
Code:
rm "11. Üuoö (Über-unter-ober-österreicher).mp3"
you can also do wildcard deletion based on fragements of the file name i.e
Code:
rm 11*.mp3
will delete all files that start with 11 with the mp3 externsion or you could start with a wildcard so a named example_file_name.txt can be deleted using
Code:
rm *file*.txt
obviously that will delete ALL files that have the word file in the filename and an extension of .txt so BE CAREFUL WHEN USING WILDCARDS but you get the idea ( hopefully )
If that doesn't delete them then you've got problems.
---------- Post added at 01:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 PM ----------
A little tip, If you're not from the old school you won't know that it best to avoid spaces and special characters in filenames especially as your transferring between different filesystem types, obviously unicode characters are kinda inevitable if that's you native language but a demestorated here there's not 100% support for it, mostly due to westernized developers not taking into account internationalization!
TRIVIA: Early versions of MSDOS only allowed eight characters for a filename with a 3 characters extension. Imagine working with those constraints!
I had the same problem. The only solution is:
Install TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782235
Reboot in recovery. Explore the files and delete whatever you want..
