I rooted and flashed BeanStalk and mistakenly relied on Kies to backup the SMS history. Now I'm left with a .bk file and having trouble finding an app that can read it. Google search didn't help and forum search is down right now. Any help? :fingers-crossed:
Go back to stock. Kies does not work on custom roms. On stock rom restore your data through Kies. Download Sms Backup&Restore from the playstore and use it to backup your sms. Flash Beanstalk again. Get set up...use the same app to restore your sms. Good luck!

I was afraid of that.
If I back up her current recent texts as well, will I be able to restore both backups and have all of them put together seamlessly? Chronological, etc.

I would restore your data from kies first...then restore the recent texts. Should be ok. If they do restore out of order..a restart should fix that.

So I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and wanted to update it to Android 2.2 . I searched how to install xRecovery and succesfully installed Android Froyo 2.2 . I followed every instruction for the install but what I think destroyed me was Factory Reset on the xRecovery menu. After I selected it to back up my Android 2.1 it did succesfully so, I then pressed wiped all data BUT I had not backed up anything. Neither contacts nor messages nor calls. So after seeing on my succesfull that I didn't have those things I decided to restore my previous backup, thinking that all my data will return. Here it gets even worse! I selected Restore in the recovery menu and it restarted. But the phone was stuck at the SE logo and no matter if I restarted the phone, it would go there again. So I decided to get the Flashtool and restore my phone and now it has restored Android 2.1 and ALL the apps, notes, calendar events, contacts, messages, call logs are gone. And the worst is I did not even back up anything of these! I want them back so bad! Also xRecovery got uninstalled. Is there anything I can do or should I deal with the fact that I was an idiot and did all these crap? Please if you know a solution that can bring my data back post it now!
Thanks!
Please don't hesitate posting if you know anything about the subject.
I'm pretty sure you're screwed there mate, but for future reference, you should use Titanium Backup. It backs up all your apps, settings, contact information etc. As for messages and your call log, you can use an app called SMS backup, which will backup your call log and your SMS/MMS messages to your gmail account.
If you did a backup from xrecovery, you can restore everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from your old 2.1 ROM incl. apps and calander and messages and whatever. You just need to reinstall xrecovery (I trust you know how as you've done it before) and go to the backup/restore menu and press restore and your previous backup should appear.
Try restoring it when you have the stock 2.1 ROM because I think sometimes going down doesn't work. Similar thing happened to me when I tried to restore my 2.1 ROM from 2.3 on my X10.

Thanks for your answer mate Well as I said I reinstalled xRecovery after flashing via PC to my old Android 2.1 which I am in now but instead of making a full restore, I selected Advanced Restore and restored the data. As a result, not only did nothing restore to my phone but it got the default settings again, you know when you open it for the first time. So should I risk a full restore or the same thing will happen?

Well, seeing that you know how to restore stock firmware w/ Flashtool, I see no harm in giving it a go. You can always go back if it goes wrong again

Okay I will try it now and I will tell you if it goes perfectly.
EDIT : Oh man it stuck again on the SE logo. Now I am reflashing it and after that xRecovery will be uninstalled. What the hell will I do now to get my data back?

Oh dear. I'm not sure what else you can do because if that was the only backup you made, I don't think much can be done. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you how to reflash your data by unzipping the backup file or something, but I can't really do much unfortunately. Sorry about that
Take this as a lesson. Always (and I do mean ALWAYS) backup data and things when you have to flash a new ROM or anything. Titanium backup is perfect for apps (and free too) and for data, I recommend MyBackup Pro. I've got the paid version, but I think the free version can backup your messages and contacts and all that data. Also, I think Android has the option to backup your contacts as well and bear in mind that MyBackup Pro isn't 100% perfect (e.g. it doesn't work properly if you have no gmail account attached, as I found out when I tried flashing a new ROM to a friend's phone) and that you can never have too many backups (although you do tend to fill the SD card with backups if you do too many ). Another user may be able to help you with retrieving data if you're lucky, but otherwise, you might have to move on as life must keep going on

As far as what will I do now, I will try to ask help to unzip my backup so I can get all my data again. Thank you very much, again. If anyone can help me reflash my data that would be grateful.

You cannot restore system apps from touchwiz via titanium backup. TW and AOSP roms are very different. You can restore apps only and xml backups such as SMS and call log but you need to do those individually. Try reflashing CM10 after wiping the big Three (like you're flashing for the first time) and restore Apps only. Everything should work again. If you need to back up your call log and sms again restore your nandroid and backup before reflashing.
thank you! those work again. and somehow when i reflashed and rebooted the apps started downloading by itself all again from the play store..just one more question, if i update from 9/20 build of CM to 9/21 then would i have to back up again??

It's always a good idea to backup
I have installed cm10 for my Skyrocket from official ICS update. I can not get my contacts which I backed up using titanium backup without screwing up the entire system requiring me to reset it. I suppose it is because it is not in the same format as ICS. Has anyone had this problem and can help me?
Nobody can help you here. Go to the skyrocket forums

Have Google backup your contacts prior to installing cm10. When you try to restore your contacts with tibu are you restoring anything else? Tibu doesn't always work very well and I don't have it restore anything when flashing different roms.

I had some similar challenges and jd's advice (above) was helpful.
Question: are you using the basic contacts in the stock system or an app?
When I went through this I found that restoring wholesale with Titanium was NOT the right way to go.
As mentioned above, if you are using stock then you should mostly just restore manually - through Google backup or Play, after flashing the new ROM. There isnt much you need to restore through Titanium. I used it to restore my launcher with its configuration and my email/contacts/calendar, which were not being managed by stock/google. But thats it.
So here is what happened.
I had a stock 2.3.4 droid 2 global from Verizon with the .629 update.
Used Framaroot to root it.
I used Titanium Backup to backup my contacts being the idiot that I am not thinking it wouldn't work. I also thought I had the contacts backed up to google but it seems I didn't.
I flashed over to this custom ROM LiquidICS 1.6 unofficial droid 2 global version which I can't link to.
Now Titanium Backup isn't letting me restore the contacts that I backed up.
For whatever reason even though I used ClockworkMod to backup my current ROM it isn't in my SD card which really pisses me off because I confirmed it was there before flashing over to liquidics.
If anyone knows either a way to get the contact files from 2.3.4 working with 4.0.4 or knows of a place where I could find just the ROM of the stock 2.3.4 or a different custom ROM that would work with the contact files from 2.3.4 that would be great.
I would prefer not having to go find a flash drive or a CD to use to SBF back to 2.3.4. But if that is my only way to do it I will do so.
So please help.
Did you back them up through Verizon because if you did you can easily restore them from that.

I thought I had but, at least for now anyways, I keep getting various errors where backup assistant is just not working at all for me. So I was hoping for something besides that.
Here are the apps/files I have backed up in Titanium Backup
ContactsData 2.3.4
Contacts Sync 2.3.4
Contacts 4.0.4-e(displayed as contacts 2.3.4 (10) by the actual restore button)
I am really hoping there is a way to somehow get those files working with my current system. If not I have to decide if it is worth rolling back and then going back to my new ROM and setting everything up again. Honestly not sure if it is just to get the contacts back.
Did you try going to verizons website and see if your contacts are somewhere on there and cam be pushed back to your phone.

...Just like I said in my first post backup assistant is not working for me. As in both the website and the app.
I really doubt you will be able to use Blur's contact data on a non-Blur ROM.
(And your main mistake, as I see it, was using Phone Contacts instead of syncing contacts with your Google account.)

So do you know where I can get a .ZIP of the Blur ROM?
And yea I know I messed up.
Try looking on RootzWiki; I remember someone posting a clockworkmod backup of stock 4.5.629.
I don't have one since I am still on 4.5.608 (and not planning to update — I like having the ability to downgrade if I want to).
So I recently had to do a titanium backup restore, and everything works fine except my texts. Whenever I hit the send button, whatever I had typed disappears and doesn't show up, and whoever I'm sending it to doesn't receive it. Also, I had a friend send me a text right in front of me, and I have yet to receive it. I've tried using multiple texting apps, and they all do the same thing.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
When you restored in titanium, did you do a system data restore too? That's likely your problem. Also did you restore from a touchwiz rom to an AOSP rom or vice versa?

Wait, should I have done a system restore? Because I didn't. And I used the exact same ROM, Cyanogenmod 10.1.3

OK, so when you restored your data in titanium, what was the restore option you selected? You should never restore your system data, but generally going to the exact same rom won't give you any issues because your system data should be the same.
Either way, to fix it try to clean flash the rom, and see if it persists. Also double check and make sure your imei is intact.
