Wrong place to post questions dude.. Anyways have you rooted using jcase's method? Then reboot to your bootloader and enter recovery which will boot into android with (system RW ) so u can delete the stuff u dont want and then just normally reboot again... this time your changes should stay.

Custom recovery image not sticking

I Having a problem when everytime I go into fastboot mode and click on recovery the /!\ comes up and would have to take the battery out and reflash the custom recovery image thru adb. Then it will work but can someone help make the recovery image stick

There is a .sh file that needs to be removed, totally forgot the location of it :/
/etc/install-recovery.sh needs to be deleted or renamed.
It's a "safety" feature in 3.3.1 and above to restore the stock recovery if it doesn't pass a check on boot each time.
This is pointed out in numerous threads...search a little for more details if you need them.
Ok thanks

Are you mounting the /system partition as read/write?
Use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
that's the trick just rename the image, and the CW recovery will stick
that's the way it's written in the step by step guide,

I am having problems renaming it as well. I'm not sure what you mean by "use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
I have tried using Astro and Android Mate to rename the file and both will not let me.
EDIT: Nevermind, I used root explorer and was able to find "mount r/w" and rename it finally. Thanks.

Because those won't allow you to modify system files. Get Root Explorer, like he said, and use that.

Cause u probably used ADB to get it to stop reflashing the stock recovery. Using root explorer is the same thing only less technical.

True, I used adb, spent like 2 hour trying to get the pc drivers to recognize the nexus. I used the PDAnet drivers eventually.

Are you on a custom ROM like CM or Bionix? They remove the script that rewrites stock recovery.
If you're on stock, what version of it are you on? 2.3.1 and higher have a file called /etc/install-recovery.sh on them, and if that's there it should be reflashing stock on every boot, whether you renamed the image you flashed to recovery or not...

[Q] modify /system folder of CWM zip

it can cause a hardware failure never use boot.img/recovery.img that's not made for your device
bricked=bootloader corrupted not anything else if your phone is entering bootloop is not bricked if you see bootloader splash (first image after you open your phone/press power button)
if you are happy it causes bootloop

will not hurt your device but don't use it because /system files are deeply integrated in framework it simply means will not work or cause a bootloop anyway do a nandroid backup before that's it if you don't believe me just try it !
I suppose you like some system apps from other phone and want to try on yours... well you can try it no problem but do a nandroid backup and be care about replacing /system app by ex if you want to replace phone.apk is not ok will not work if you get it from somewhere
if you just want to add ordinary apps to /system it will not hurt but don't do it because /system partition is not too big not too much free space why to add apps here ?

Step 1. Copy SystemUI.apk to the sdcard
Step 2. Rename SytemUI.apk to SytemUI1.zip
Step 3. Change the icons i what ever folder they are in. Eg.(Wifi status icons)
Step 4: Rename File Back to SystemUI.apk
Step 5. Install
Step 6. Reboot & Enjoy

Root browsers request root at (their) startup.
adb can pull from system partition but to push it needs root in order to remount /system as rw.

Sorry for been so rough with you before .
But
1. You should replace the first step in the OP with the following command (done in PC)
Code:
adb pull /system/app/SystemUI.apk
2. Add in the OP that your method can be dangerous.

It's rare to get a bootloop by modifying SystemUI.
All devices have download mode but without root it is useless.
This tutorial installs SystemUI as user app (in /data) so even stock recovery can delete it.

but in this case its relavent because the only way to fix a bootloop in this case is to root and restore, other then that your bricked.
also a bootloop is very easy when modifying systemUI or framework-res
and no not all devices have download mode, htc has a bootloader menu, and if you didnt disable hotboot before modifying, then theres no chance of fixing this...

Still if your ROM boots and your rooted and you have adb on your PC (its a must bro , I personally can't live without it )
Type (not the part in *le something* )
Adb shell *le presses enter*
Su *le presses enter again*
Mount -o rw, remount /system /system *le does it again*
Exit *enter*
Exit *enter*
Example if you want to push systemui
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk
*enter*
Similarly push all other apps
Adb shell *le presses enter again*
Su
Chmod 644 /system/app/SystemUI.apk
Change the SystemUI.apk to what ever app you want to replace

What do you mean exactly?
Are you installing using a flashable zip or the application?
A flashable zip is the easiest way so you can edit the installer script to place it in whatever directory you wish.
I never use the apk tools themselves for installing.
You can also boot to recovery and mount system.
Then from terminal, EX:
Code:
adb push MyCoolMod.apk /system/app
Let me know if that helps, or if you need more info, or are deadset on using that app to install and we can go from there.

After you push to the /system/priv-app folder, did you reboot? That should have installed it for you. Might also be a permissions problem. Make sure the permissions on your file are the same as the permissions on the rest of the files in that folder.
