[ROM] RASTAKAT [Android 4.4_r1.2 KRT16S] [PRODUCT_DEVICE := tilapia] - Nexus 7 3G Android Development

THIS IS RASTAKAT FOR THE TILAPIA
/// WHAT IS RASTAKAT
The way rascarlo wants Android. I noticed that Rascarlo did not have a tilapia build for 4.4 up. I took the liberty of building it. I tested it on my grouper but was not able to check radio's. Hope you enjoy it's if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Built in tethering?
Loving the build so far; very smooth. Too bad Morfic never made a Trinity ROM for KitKat for this unit; it would complement rastakat well.
One thing I am missing using this ROM (updated from CM 10.1.3 - based on 4.2.2) is built-in tethering. It does not appear to be present as a menu item with SIM out, or with SIM inserted (could be due to ATT messing with stuff, as I have an ATT SIM card). If it is present, but being hidden by my insertion of ATT SIM, then please consider build ROM with ATT Tethering fix as described generally in this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452336&page=3 - and more specifically in post 30 of that link.
Still putting the ROM through its paces, and will report any additional issues on here.
Thanks again for having built this for this N7 2012; now I can use rastakat on all my devices (N5, N7 2012, N7 2013).

Hey sd_matto I will look into the tethering issue as soon as I get the chance. I appreciate the information. I don't have the device so without the heads up I would never have known.

You rock!! Thanks for taking the time to build it!

This seems to be the first KitKat ROM running ART without any com... related errors, even Cover is working for me. Flashed this with slimkat gapps v1.6 and SuperSU v1.8, booted up and changed to ART. Used TB to restore backup apps and data. So far so good, running fine, smooth and fast. BTW, running Xposed Framework and some modules too. Great ROM! Thanks for the ROM.

I don't think the kernel is morifics ATM. I'll have to look into it when I get back to my grouper. The dev and morific are boys I just copied his O.P. to keep continuity.

how is battery drain for this ROM ?
I am looking for ROM and Kernel with minimal battery drain during sleep (not power off)
my current Tilapia, 4.4 stock ROM and Kernel is suffering from > 5% / Hr battery drain during sleep in airplane mode
Thank you

I'm on the grouper build so I'm not sure how much radio's will play a role but I'm getting about %10 drop a day at idle.

Thanks so much for this build, really appreciate it. Could I be cheeky though and ask a favour? I'd love to not have to edit the build.prop as I don't run it rooted because some apps don't work if the device is rooted. But the model/manufacturer name is stopping me using a few apps, could you maybe update it to ASUS Nexus 7 instead of "AOSP On Tilapia"?

This should do it. Changed name to ASUS Nexus 7. It's also synced to rascarlo's repository as of today. http://d-h.st/GLt

Thanks for this, unfortunately I think you changed the wrong ones, it's these two that need changing.
ro.product.model = Nexus 7
ro.product.manufacturer = ASUS
Cheers again man, ART on Tilapia was sorely needed, still weird that it's not available on the factory images.

[ROM][Linaro][Paranoid/CNA][1.3.1] Cookies&Cream 10/16

This rom is based on CodeNameAndroid and Paronoid Android (You read that right on the fly dpi changes). Compiled with the Linaro compiler and full 03 and strict aliasing which allows the compiler to super optimize everything.
Features:
Code:
[B]kernel:[/B] [URL="https://github.com/faux123/Nexus-grouper"]faux[/URL] complied with Linaro -03

if it would have the 7 button aopk navigation bar,i would switch immediately
Does this have such a thing?
This looks very promising. I've been running PA since I got my Nexus 7 and would love to see it used to its full potential.
Although.. Has anyone else noticed that PA's file transfer speed via usb is extremely extremely slow compared to stock? Is that fixed in this ROM?

no, mtp has nothing to do with pa, they did minor changes for UMS, i dont have those changes so the issue probably doesn't effect this rom, although i dont remember the changes off hand they werent huge

Bug Reports:
Reporting bugs is important But reporting them properly is KEY.
If you think youve came across something that is not working as desired [bug] folow these steps to report.
1. RE-flash your rom cleanly and do not install gapps or restore anything. This will confirm the bug is in the rom and not a compatibility issue with your data or chosen gapps.
2. A logcat is very important for me to trouble shoot the bug ..
3 pull a logcat by connecting your device to the computer and open terminal then type adb logcat hit enter.
4 navigate to your bug and recreate it while connected and watch for a fatal exception.
5 copy the text apd use paste bin to share it with me.. after youve saved it copy the link and post it in the thread. Please ensure youve captured the fatal exception in the paste otherwise it will do no good.

I'm looking forward to it.
Droyd, I have a huge request if it is possible. For the future builds please include THIS patch also. Currently there is only one ROM that includes it and that's BeanStalk (I've asked phoenixita to include it when he builds it). Without it, my car-kit is useless.
ROM is working smooth and fine. Even if you say it has only "basic" things, it has alot already. The bugs I've found are the general KitKat bugs affecting almost all ROMs. First the nasty backlight issue during calls. Then I found that in Settings - Volume even if you tick to have separate ringing/notification volumes this is not preserved after you go away from that screen. You just have to tick/un-tick the option again when you're back there. But as I said, they're present in the other KitKat ROMs also

By the way when you switch the sounds to link or unlink you are selecting OK at the bottom right? I ask cause I'm not getting that issue at all.. I select OK and it sticks.
What is the backlight issue..?

I've pressed OK I do like this: go into the menu, by default there is only one slider for ringtone&notifications. Below is the checkbox. I un-tick it to have separate sliders and there is appearing the slider for notifications. I'm adjusting a lower volume for them, then press OK. If I go again into that menu, what is strange is that the checkbox remains un checked but the second slider for notifications is gone (not shown). The only one remaining is labeled only "ringtone" this time but I have to tick/un-tick again the option to make the second slider appear. On the other hand, on the expandable volume panel (brought up by vol buttons), there are 2 different sliders. It's only a visual issue, in fact the volumes remain as they were set...just the notification slider seems to vanish
The backlight issue...is the most anoying bug present for now in ALL KitKat ROMs. I'll explain. Make a phone call (to a toll free number for ex) then take the phone away from your ear. The screen is lit right? OK, now cover the proximity sensor with the hand or finger, screen will go blank. Normal behavior...BUT... Sometimes the screen comes up after you take the hand of the sensor but remain very very dark (suggest you make the test in a dark room to notice). As the screen comes up but not the backlight of it. Make several tries with the hand covering the sensor, keep it covered several seconds...finally you'll see it.
One more thing...the bug is not happening if the phone is charging (connected via USB or power socket). It's happening only when is not connected to PC. I hope I've explained well
Hmm OK I'll check into it a little.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Lol OK yeah that's a cm bug but since all ville ROMs are based on cm its present in them as well.. I believe its a kernel issue since I don't have it on the mako.. Another one I'll have to dig for..

A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it

A Note about the Team OctOs GApps
We in Team OctOs believe in choices. We believe in leaving the fundamental decisions about your phone to you.
In that spirit, Team OctOs gives you options for your GApps experiences. While any ODEX'ed GApps package should work, we offer you the choice of using some of the same GApps packages that we use ourselves, and leave the choice up to you.
You can find our Team OctOs GApps packages here, and break down into the following types:
GPe - Google Experience
Regular GPe GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced GPe GApps
AOSP
AOSP GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced AOSP GApps
The Dalvik-Enhanced packages are NOT ART compatible. If you plan to run ART, don't use those.

We plan to purchase and build 3 identical servers to be able to handle the work load of building our ROMs. Hosting, Electricity, and Parts alone are out of pocket at this point. But we love what we do. So, if you feel led to send us a device(even old ones you've moved on from, or new ones) or small donations towards our server project we'd be extremely appreciative. Just saying hello. We are here to be different and to tell noobs what they need to hear.
Our mission statement is REAL AOSP(not CM)+GPE+OctSettings = Team-OctOS.
Enjoy the ROM. We as a team are ever expanding and are working on adding more devices daily. Treken and I are normally nose deep in code. So don't expect us to be around non stop.
Just tried flashing with the latest twrp and it failed.
Just got it running. Looks pretty nice. One feature request. Would it be possible to use the aokp nav bar vs. The cm navbar? I'm asking because I like to add a few custom apps to the nav bar (eg phone, hangouts) so I don't need to use launcher space for them.
Thank you for the build, much appreciated. Its always good to see new ROMs for a device.

@Calvin check to see if signatures are needed on twrp under twrp advanced settings. I had that issue with omnirom. My first boot didn't get past the Samsung logo, but rebooting started right up.

We don't use CM's Trebuchet launcher. We use aosp but our gapps replaces with Google launcher. Sometimes I use Nova which is free and has many options as a free alternative.

So far so good. I used PHilZ recovery to flash and no issues, just flashed the ROM and Gapps, said no to root the device and then let sit. i then setup my account and then rebooted and flashed the 1.86 SU update zip in recovery and all is working well. I like the cleanliness of having the mods all under dev settings. Using KT's kernel (just because I'm used to it) and his settings. Good to see a nice AOSP rom over here. I might need to read up some on davlik optomized apps. Great work and thanks for sharing your work

Us cellular and Sprint the only files showing on the site? Maybe they are uploading new ones. The ROM ran smooth just didn't care for the gapps missing the messaging app, I don't care for using hangouts for messaging.

Messaging app is still packed with the ROM, hangouts gives you the option of using it, but you can turn it off.
The builds are coming. We had some updates to include and I'm writing thru the build outs now. They'll be up once as they complete.

Appreciate the explanation of what's going on. The reason I said that about the messaging is because I never saw a messaging app icon in the drawer. I did see two phone icons? I will probably wait until the new release b4 I flash again. I really loved the ROM it was butta, and that's a fact Jack.

Two phone icons is because GPe gapps has the Google dialer. Need to keep the original dialer or it doesn't work.
As for the messaging app, you're right. Dubbsy may have removed it, I'll ask him

I am really digging the rom with the clean look and especially what the other person mentioned about all of the options being in the development menu. It really gives it that stock feel. I am so excited about Octo now that I have fire up the old Kubuntu side and am Repo syncing right now . Keep up the great work and of course my next stop is rating the thread.

What is AICP?
AICP is known by someone as Ice Cold Project that started on Desire HD and since than evolved as a mature rom with the BEST community you can find!!!
Rom has always been AOKP based so expect all AOKP goodies + new additions.
If there are any bugs, either we will sort them or AOKP team if it conserns their modifications. This rom isn't AOKP supported so no need to report errors or bugs to them!!
You must be on a pure (not modded) 4.4.2 modem
no need for a JDI specific kernel anymore all the magic happens during the flash of the rom

What's Broken:
ROMS
ROMS should contain everything you need to enjoy JB. You are not required to install any Add Ons, simply download the latest ROM, gapps, flash it, and go!
You are STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing, and if possible avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup - these can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug. If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience strange behavior.
How to flash:
Don't do it if you don't know it
ROM has gapps persistance in between dirty flashes

Pretty Good but a couple bugs?
Awesome ROM, snappy as heck. Super stable so far including GPS and Data. I'm using a D800.
Doubletap to wake works.
But rotation is broken. Tried flashing a couple other modems that fixed rotation on one of the other CM/AOKP ROM. Not sure if there is something broken across all CM ROMs?
Thanks awesome work though.:good:

Features/Newest update.
Just updated to the newest nightly. Everything is running nicely.
Couple questions.
1. Can we use a different kernel or could you implement possible sweep to sleep over nav bar?
2. In future release could you add in more customizations for the navbar, such as color change options, or icon change options. Another important missing feature from the navbar I noticed is there is no setting to enable long press actions for the navbar icons?
Great work though. Love the ROM. Thanks!

jdi kernel added to OP
Flashed the JDI kernel & have a bunch of screen on and off issues. Phone randomly reboots and doesn't boot up everytime.
Did a factory reset and installed the JDI kernel, same thing. DO NOT INSTALL JDI kernel.

Same here. Installed Furnace JID and my phone would boot after a reboot. As soon as the screen went off, the backlight would come on, touch responses and vibration, but no picture. Reboot, and same thing.

just checking...
you're 100% certain your device has a jdi display panel correct?
I'm just asking cause it works fine on my device
How do we know if we have a JDI display? Never heard of that. I have an AT&T LG G2 D800 if that helps any? Thanks

the g2's have 2 different displays, chances are you have a lgd display type
basically if you flash the rom with the included kernel and you get white lines across the screen you might have a jdi display panel, therefore you would need to flash a jdi kernel
so the jdi kernel in the OP is only for people with a jdi display panel
there is also a display checker app in the forums somewhere but you need to be on the stock ota to get proper results from it
In short.. if you flash the rom and your display is working correctly... don't flash the jdi kernel
Flashed yesterday and so far no issues. I did have to flash twice, first flash it booted to splash screen and vibrated. Powered off reboot to recovery and flashed again.

How is everyone's battery usage? Mines has been decent but definitely not even close to stock ROMs. (Obviously). It has been better using other CM/AOKP ROMs.
Idk if this is normal but the battery usage from Google Now has seemd strangely high compared to other roms. I uninstalled Google Now Launcher because I thought the hotword detection was causing drain.
So I did a uninstall of Google now,(search not launcher), reinstalled & charged battery full and these are some of my usage signs?
Thanks!

Did a full charge overnight (phone off) & have had my phone on for about 20 minutes now. Google Now hasn't even showed up under my battery stats yet & I'm still at 100%. Looks like that might have fixed it. :good:

To God be the glory, my AOKP Nougat project finally works!
This is not a dirty unicorn. This is the original unicorn, the AOKP. Now made out of nougat! With tons of settings from status bar tweaks to home button remaps, it's all here and ready to rumble! Hopefully more features will be added as the AOKP team integrates the changes to the source.
**** This is an UNOFFICIAL ROM. Install at your own risk! ****
Downloads:
Rom Download link:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/zu8y9slczytr3/Nougat
Gapps link:
http://opengapps.org/
-Which I personally tested Pico. Be sure to choose "Arm" and "7.1".
This Rom has been stable for me, but is new, so be prepared for some little hic-ups here and there. Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
!!!FIRST BOOT TAKES ABOUT 5 EARTH MINUTES TO COMPLETE!!!
Installation instructions:
-Follow this guide to get your phone onto the Developer aboot:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529
-Download ROM and gapps, and put them on your phone or external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
-Reboot to system and enjoy!
-OPTIONAL - After first boot, then go back to recovery and install the AKLU kernel.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/kernel-nougat-kernels-t3608886
I do not recommend installing superSU or Magisk on this ROM! SU permission is already built in, and superSU and Magisk have been causing problems with the rom. Please read the thread for further details.
Code:
What works:
So far everything that I have tried works, such as
- Camera for pictures and video!
- Phone calls/receiving
- Data 2g/3g/LTE
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
- PTP/MTP
- GPS
- Multi-Window, just long press the "recents" button.
etc....
What doesn't:
- The capacitive button back lighting does not work correctly. The buttons still work, just not the lighting.
- Automatic time zones cause problems, set time zone manually in date/time.
- Choosing to reboot the phone sometimes takes a loooong time. It may be better to Power off and then start the phone, which is faster for some reason.
- Let me know in the forums if you find other issues so I can work on fixing them.
This AOKP N ROM was built for the Verizon Galaxy S5 using modified LineageOS trees. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. Chime in if it worked on your device.
A huge thanks to the Android Open Kang Project team!
Disclaimer: AOKP is not responsible for any damages to your device.
All of my work is completely available for any who wish to use or modify it. I didn't make AOKP, the device trees, or vendor blobs. I simply used and edited existing material. A huge thanks should go to those who actually created this stuff.

Thanks:
A huge thanks goes out to @haggertk for his great work on the KLTE!
Notes:
Just a spot for some field notes about the ROM.
Background:
The awesome background was provided by The Quiet Learner, you can see more of his work here:
https://qlfiles.net/
You can also change the background using SWAGGER, to choose from several amazing AOKP backgrounds. Just long press the background as usual, and choose SWAGGER.
Multi-Window:
Open the app you want on top, then long press the recent button, then select the app you want on the bottom. Slide the slider up or down to choose full screen for the top or bottom app. Note: if in multi-window mode, pressing home goes to the home screen, but opening an app causes multi-window mode again with the last app you had open and the new app you chose.
OmniSwitcher:
You must enable OmniSwitcher to use it. There are choices for horizontal or vertical layouts, as well as the "handle" size and color. You can also enable the "menu" button, which may come in handy due to the long press of the recent button being used for multi-window.
@AlaskaLinuxUser AKLU kernel? i like testing kernels , can you tell me a little more details about that kernel , or is it the aokp-stock kernel? if not what features are included in it?.... great rom tho.
also is it possible for you to include a updated modem and firmware files in this rom (latest modems/firmware filles) i think the qd1 is the latest.

KazuDante,
The ROM comes with the stock kernel, but you can download the AKLU kernel from the kernel thread. I only just started on the kernel, so at present the AKLU kernel just includes the extra governors: Lionheart, smartmax, and Wheatley. I plan to do more updates next week, see the kernel thread for details.
As for the modem, this ROM does not include modem files. Whichever modem and baseband you have loaded is what you will have, I just happen to have QB2 on my phone, works great for me on straight talk. But if you are coming from QD1 then that is what you will have.
Hope that helps! And thanks for giving the ROM a try!

Hi, Great ROM thank you.
However the moment I install Google Play Services Framework, I lose the ability to use cellular data. APN settings are there, the LTE network is there in the quick menu, but not in the status bar. Wifi works fine.
I have installed each separately of GPStore, GPlogin, GPServices, and GPSFramework, and have narrowed it down to a GPSF issue. It doesn't matter if I install from Open GApps or individually using apk's from apkmirror.
I have tried putting exceptions in the data saver app even though I never turn it on, but no luck. It happens with all Nougat AOSP based ROMs, like lineage and CM as well.
Please help if you can, I really like this ROM.

Hmmmm.....
I am not sure that I understand the problem. I have open gapps installed with the Google play framework app installed, and am able to use cellular data.
Edit: here I am watching rocky and Bullwinkle with cell data while looking through the system apps, shown is google services framework.

off-subject forgot to say you have to divide the screen rgb values by 128 so that the custom profiles of kernel auditor can be applied. those max values should be around the 255 if divided by 128.

At first I was confused, but then I looked at KA, and you are correct! That's somewhat comical. However, your powers of observation are not only astute, but your persistence in determining the multiplicity of the matter is remarkable.

Thank you. I try to help in any way that I can , since a lot of users might use the kernel-auditor-MOD app ( which has a custom profile that punches up the colors and blacks(oled+black= more battery life, even tho its really small but better some then none right) ) , they might of pointed out that the profiles don't work and i got around testing your kernel today ( free time) and was looking at all aspects of it. Personally I'm waiting on the update that would include voltage control , and if possible even on the gpu itself. and since you are the first to included a different frequency for the CPU without increasing the voltage ( bravo ) I'm assuming that you might have plans to included more cpu and gpu frequencies compared to the 300-422-652-729-883-960-1036-1190-1267-1497-1574-1728-1958-2265-2457-2534-2611-2764-2841 frequencies that most if not all S5 users are customed to for a while. Adding in-between frequencies would be a great upgrade for the S5 but for the GPU I'm not so sure since even changing the gov of the GPU would crash/freeze the system.
So I am very excited to see what twists your kernel will bring.

Thanks for the reply. It's not ROM specific so not really your problem, just figured I'd see if you knew anything. If I freeze GPServices and GPSFramework, LTE pops right back up.
I have same problem in LineageOS 14.1 so there must be some kind of conflict with GPlay and nougat based AOSP ROMS on my phone. I'm on the PB1 bootloader if that means anything (found this ROM from your post on that thread). Only other possible difference from you is I'm on AT&T Mexico.
It's so weird because LTE symbol is shown next to the signal strength triangle icon in Quick settings but not in status bar, so it's like the phone is receiving the signal but refuses to use it.
Haha, nice the R&BW. :good:

Yes, it does.
Hello from a fellow Alaskan Jesus lover who uses a unlocked SM900V as my daily driver. Currently using Resurrection Remix 7.1.2_r8 because of its tweakability and being able to use 3Minit Battery Mod.
Praise God! Another update!
There is a new download in the OP! Just a sync with AOKP for security patches through June! There is also a new web browser that you can try!
Just an FYI, I have changed the download link to a folder containing the rom(s), its just a little easier, so after an upload I do not have to update the links, as the folder will not change, just the rom in it.
Enjoy and Happy Independence Day and weekend to my fellow Americans!

Awsome!! ive been waiting patiently to hear from you. Thank you so much
I forgot to mention that I also changed the boot animation to the old "lightning" AOKP boot animation.
If you want the new "pony-gear" animation, you can grab it here in the "Official AOKP" folder:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/o172vzm25q6n3/bootanimations
Or you can poke around the other animations and use any of those if you like them. Checkmate was one of my favorites, although I made these a while back for older phones, so they may be a little "fast" and/or "small" on your phone now.
Thanks for porting this to the Verizon version.
I have found one bug that I didn't see others mention. My Recent and Back buttons are not illuminated.

Actually, that is in the op under what doesn't work. Its a problem with all of my AOKP ROMs. It has to do with the aokp backlight controls.
