Hi guys, I ordered my Nexus 5 last week, and hopefully it'll come by Christmas! I've always been an iPhone user, and this will be my first time using android (if you don't consider the time i installed iDroid on my old 3G).Since I can't wait to use it, I'm trying to set everything up as much as possible before i get it. Since I was an iCloud user, i had to switch to Google services, which wasn't a problem, the mail and the contacts worked perfectly. When I tried to transfer the music from iTunes, I discovered that i need to download "google music manager", to use the music app. Unfortunately, I can't download it since it asks me for a credit card, even if i choose to use the standard "free" version of google music. This is so annoying; is there a way to transfer my music without using the google manager? Or a way to download it without providing a credit card? If not, is there another player that i can use to listen to my music? Thanks in advance
PS: sorry for the bad english (i'm italian) and for any dumb and noob question
You can connect your Nexus 5 to your computer and from there go to My Computer. Then you can copy your music directly to the phone with no additional software.

just for information for everyone using Google Music Beta. I came across this problem myself and thought I would share what I found with others. Post by VoidedSaint
If you are a google beta music tester, and you have flashed multiple roms on your phone and when you try to stream music from google, and you get the you have authorized blah blah blah deauthorize an account to use this service.
Google music beta has a certain number of accounts that are associated with Google Music Beta
it allows only 8
once you have reached 8 you have to go to the website to deactivate a several accounts.
now for instance this is what i found was my issue
open google music on my phone, no file could be played because it said i had too many accounts linked to my google music, i instantly thought wtf! is google giving away information that allows others to connect to my music?
so i go on to google music beta, go under settings to see what is connected to it
nick-pc
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
Motorola DROIDX
all within 1 to 2 days apart from 1 another
i dont remember because this happened last night that i took care of it, but im going by sheer memory.
i deactivated each Motorola DROIDX account, and reopened google music back on my phone, sure enough i was able to listen to music again.
so in other words
if you flash a new rom, or wipe data/factory reset deactivate your google music on the dx through the web, or else it will continue to build up like mine has. However it may have just been an anomaly for me. But if you have flashed multiple roms and are on Google Music Beta, check to see what is connected to you.
i just figured some of you would want to know this nice little bit of information. Because apparently google music doesnt read esn or s/ns for phones they just recognize the phone and whenever google music is reinstalled, well you get the idea.
I haven't run across this yet but thanks for the awesome heads up! I love having fixes BEFORE I see the issues!

I've had it happen twice
See I flash so much that I often don't make it through a day without 3 or 4 flashes. I don't even use my music beta that often cause I've been groove shark-ing and player pro-ing mostly. My girlfriend thinks I'm an idiot for flashing my phone constantly.
She also says that she's going to pretend to be a smartphone so that I'll pay attention to her hahahaha

Hello all,
If you tried accessing your Google Drive, but it says that it is not ready yet, there is a little workaround I just discovered.
Follow these 2 steps:
(1) Go to the Google Play Store on your Android Device and download the app.
It will automatically log you in, and again give you the same screen stating that your google Drive is not ready yet.
(2) Switch screens internally in the app (meaning, switch to another account if you have more than one, or go into the settings of the app, or whatever) and then press the back button to go back to the main Drive screen. Exiting and reentering the app may work as well, but I don't know because I haven't tried that.
You will notice that once you go back to the app, the message is gone and you have full access to your Google Drive on your Android Device.
**It only gives you access on your phone though, website Google Drive will still not work until its ready**
Enjoy!
PS - Please don't comment things like "why not just wait" or some derivative of that. If you would like to wait, that's great, keep that to yourself. This is for those that don't want to wait. Thanks for understanding.
Edit -
Just found out btw, that you can also just upload directly to Google Docs (any file format), because Google Docs and Drive are going to be Merged and already reflects your 5GB storage amount.
Edit 2 -
Here is the desktop application for all those asking
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B8UC9mheN6KZUlFHN0R2QU91TmM
Thanks! Didnt work for me, just signed me into google docs and didnt let me go back to the google drive screen, but good find anyway!
Interesting thing is that on my tablet it worked without any work-arounds, but on my desktop it still says its not ready.

I don't have the apk, but its still in the play store. I just checked. Search Google Drive rather than just Drive.

Anyone have the desktop application? Thanks for the workaround by the way.
This appears to be gone from the market / play store / whatever it is today. Any chance of posting the apk?

Thanks but link does not work if your drive is not ready
heya,
Hmm, I managed to update to Google Drive through Play Store, however, I'm having issues with step 2 - how do you switch accounts, or go to settings?
This is on a Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0.4 - there's no settings key when you're at that "Google Drive is not ready" screen...
Cheers,
Victor
ya same here i just tried. @vistagamer when did you apply for your drive to be on the waiting list?
This doesn't work anymore, switching between screens did nothing for me. Seems google patched the bug fast.
yeah. doesn't work for me either. Bloody Google are really bad at releasing stuff imo. ****, in Australia we are still waiting for official google music (both buying and using it!!)
Drive downloaded from the Play store for me today but wouldn't work. Came home from work and installed on my PC. Uploading files now and the app on my Kindle shows the new files...
I can only sign in to google docs on the drive app, and I cant switch back to the drive screen, so I dont think this works anymore...

Hello everyone,
Something weird happened to me.
I live in Israel and we only have access to the apps play store.
When I turned on my n10 today and entered the play store it allowed me full access to the play store, without using a VPN or anything.
I thought it was a glitch or something so I tried it on my n4 using mobile data (my n10 was on WiFi) and to my surprise once I cleaned the play store app cache I had full access to the play store via WiFi and mobile data without using VPN!
I bought songs and videos and streamed them seamlessly on both my devices using different types of internet.
Anyone else came across something like this?! I sure hope this sticks! Lol
Another thing, my friend on his tf300 using the same WiFi couldn't get full access like I did, how weird is this?!

I had the same thing and now enjoying reading the latest Jo Nesbo book with my Nexus 7. Apparently it happens only if youv'e purchased stuff beforehand through the store - I tried logging in with my wife's Nexus 4 (purchased through my account) and couldn't get the full content. Than i connected with her account via proxy, purchased a 1.0$ song and- Hurray the store is now open throughout any connection. I guess they will open up eventually since there are some Hebrew content there.

I tried to open samples of some books, most of the times I get message: couldn't open the book.....
same here...about book i dont know... but if u purchase a movie or tv shows via vpn you can then play it without a vpn via the movies app.
the purchase itself cannot be made without a vpn though.
Sadly, I now cannot even enter in play site with proxy to upload some books in Google Play Books, it says not avaiable in my country, even with proxy. When I log out the content is avaiable, but when my profile is signed in no sign. Maybe Google somehow determined my location idk. Any ides?
More people gettin "Play" in israel.

Does the play store still work for your account?
I saw some new reports on "gadgety.co.il" about the store being available (Cant post link being a noob and all..)
It's not up for me :crying:.
Wondering if its an other bug or are things starting to move...
I know my Nexus 5 doesn't have the option (unless I get this new case that will support it) but my old phones allowed it through Google Music. My friend's phone won't allow it anymore. Is it able to be done anymore or is there no way possible?

I know milk music isn't available for non Samsung phones, but shouldn't there be a way to install it on the Samsung watch? It seems like the watch is partially crippled by me having a non Samsung device.
Does anyone know of a way?
@paoloroeseke, were you ever able to find an answer to this? I just purchased an S2 and I haven't been able to find anything on this; only how to install Milk Music onto my phone. Thanks!
use a file manager to sideload it. Same thing for any geo-restricted app. If you plan on using those geo-apps regularly, do like me, create a new Google account with some us address, then use a VPN when you want to download restricted apps while switching to that american account. I've been doing that for years and have never had any problem, then only thing you need, at least I did, is a deposit of US funds. I simply bought a 10$ Google Play card from ebay.
@polish_pat,
I actually live in the US, I just do not have a Samsung phone. Milk music is only accesible via the Play/Gear stores on samsungs. I have filesmaster, i just cant seem to locate a Milk Music .wgt file to push over. Would you by chance know of (or have) one I could try?

You will not be able to sideload the app on non samsung devices. MilkMusic is a re-skinned Slacker Radio app. It requires some Samsung frameworks only available on Galaxy devices. This is a deal they have signed with Slacker in order to reduce ads and interruptions for free users and reduce monthly cost for premium users. I know there are some mods that either reskin the slacker app to look like milk or trick the app to emulate a galaxy, but those have been killed by Samsung overtime. Still worth giving it a shot, check out the link below

Thanks a ton for taking the time to respond. Funny enough, I actually found that link yesterday after i had posted, and was in fact able to sideload the samsung account app as well as whatever old version of Milk that is. The problem I'm still having is i'm unable to find/get the milk music .wgt file to send/install to the watch itself :-/

Don't bust your balls with that, I have a Note 5 and have issues with milk on my gear as well, I can't even imagine a non-samsung user. My problem is my location. I'm able to trick the phone to play milk in Canada, but the watch keeps asking to install "com.samsung.mdl.radio.gear.providero" but when it launches galaxy apps it says the app is not available for my device. It seems to be geo-restricted and somehow the watch is able to see through my VPN.
As for your issue, let me try and pull the file from my watch if I find a free filemanager as I don't have any credit card on file with my samsung account.

Using that thread, I was able to install milk music on my moto x pure, AND log into a Samsung account to enable explicit content. Now to just figure out installing the wgt. I think I actually have it saved somewhere.

I have the same issue. I live in Korea and have a Korean S5 and an American Gear 2S. I use a VPN for my Milk Music, but I get an error trying to install the helper. There is actually a different version of Milk Music here simply called Milk. Since I am defaulted to the Korean Gear Apps store anyways, I even tried installing their version of the helper which requires their version of Milk as well. The helper installs fine but when I get to the Milk install it also fails citing that I do not have an official samsung firmware on my phone.......go figure. Anyways, I haven't given up on trying yet, and if you find a fix before me, please let me know. I will do the same for you. I have thought of trying to do a rest on the watch while at home with my router running the VPN/DNS and also not allowing any location until after attemping. But I worry that because my phone defaults to the Korean Galaxy App Store( and I tried many ways around it, bottom line it is a Korean phone) I will be doing it in vain.

Dont bother when I set up my watch I was in the United States for 2 weeks after that. My guess is it's not seeing through the vpn, or location but more the Samsung Account info. Same thing happened when i bought a pair of multiroom speakers a few years back...the multiroom app prevented me to use Pandora within the multiroom app while streaming to all speakers that were paired. What's funny is as soon as I closed the multiroom app and launched the pandora app on its own, it worked, but i had to stream by Bluetooth to one speaker only. Something tells me they use the account info to filter us

I finally got it. I decided to give it a shot and it worked. i threw my wife's SiM card US Sim card in and was able to access the US store and download the helper. Once it is installed you can go back to using Milk with the VPN and all is well with the helper app and using the watch to control it. If you are able to find a US sim card, it doesn't matter the status of the card as long as it is a US sim card.
