You know, I like the metal "stripe" down the back, but can you believe my fingernail scratched it? I don't think that bodes well for the long haul if I can scratch it that easily. And it's a real scratch, not a surface blemish as far as I can tell.
Anyone else already scratch the metal?
Mine is scratched, or scuffed, and I have no idea how it happened. I have been babying this thing.
i assume you took the plastic off of it? cause the plastic is easy to scratch. =) haha.

Yep...though you did make me second guess myself.
But yeah, it's off.
I think I'm going to try and exchange it...this must have been there when I got it.
Uhhh you didn't put a case on your phone right away? I bought their 20$ one and its awesome.... Protection yo.
U do know its "brushed" as in brushed metal... its made to look like that.... cuz I just tried scratching it (sense I'm getting a new one) and I can't scratch it with my nail..

Yeah I just tried it again and I couldn't either, so I'm thinking it was there already. The reason I scratched with my nail in the first place was I thought I saw some left over plastic or something still there. So I tried to scratch it off.
Instead of putting ugly bulky cases on my devices I just buy a couple spare battery covers on Ebay a couple months after the phone is released. I always wonder why people cover up there nice looking phone with a rubber case. Wonder why the manufacturers just don't make a rubber phone?

hey, it really does happen. i havent taken off the protectors cause they're not peeling for me. lol.
I am very very careful with all of my phones. I have yet to actually scratch one(I always use cases and screen protectors.) I was shocked when after only having installed the battery and set the device down that the aluminum strip had multiple scratches on it. I have no idea how they got there. Went to local T Mobile store and checked their demo unit and NO SCRATCHES . With all of the handling etc no scratches!!! I wonder if it is a quality control issue with the aluminum? I put a case on it within 4 hours of receiving it. I am having to send this one back due to random reboots -signal issues-battery overheating-lcd screen bleeding at edges- so I will be very very careful to see what this aluminum strip on the back is like. I am starting to wonder whether this phone is ready for prime time or not due to all the issues I have found and the many other issues others have found. I believe this can be a giant of a phone if all of the bugs can be worked out.

Well, I exchanged it thanks to the nice folks at T-mobile.
Make sure it's not the plastic on the strip that's messed up, as the first thing they checked was whether or not the plastic was still on.

Mine did that the other day. I looked at it and was like, "OMFG... already!"
Then I noticed the plastic. I wore it for a few days didn't even know it was on there. I recommend leaving it on unless there is a huge scratch on it.

Dropping phones is inevitable. It will SOON eventually happen. I hate to put on cases too, but it's necessary.
I would have just left the plastic on...why take it off? It was literally invisible and you couldn't tell it was even there.
The Galaxy is actually a beast. I've dropped mine so many times and it held up. Don't let the lightness fool us..it's one beast and held it's own on it's fall...impressive.
As they say, the bigger and heavier you are, the harder you fall...
There's a huge advantage of the Galaxy being light...
The worst phones for falls are HTC's...wayyy to heavy...
I agree with dropping the galaxy s. That phone is well built! People may not like the plastic build but it is a very durable phone!
Regarding the G2x, I am carrying it naked it is a good looking phone. Gonna buy the European battery covers when they become available.
I received my Seidio Surface case on Wednesday. At first, I was really excited. The case has a nice finish and good build quality. However, yesterday I decided to take the case off to clean my phone and I saw the four corners of the phone very deeply scratched. The bezel also has some scratches.
Before someone says it's because of debris and dust that gets in the case, I am pretty sure that I cleaned the case very well and dusted if off with a can of compressed air. The scratches were definitely caused by the case.
I am deeply disappointed with Seidio and their product. This piece o junk that costs almost 40 bucks was meant to protect my device, yet it did the opposite.
EDITED: Here are the pictures:
THESE PICTURES ARE THUMBNAIL LINKS TO THE ACTUAL SIZE PICTURES. MAKE SURE YOU VIEW THIS THREAD USING A BROWSER, NOT THE XDA APP (AS IT WILL ONLY DISPLAY THE ENLARGED PIXELED THUMBNAIL)
i had mines for 2 months and no deep scratches only on the side bezel maybe 1 or 2, but that is due to me taking case on and off tryin to take out battery and messing around with it. The case looks good doesnt feel cheap or look cheap like other cases like tpu or wateva silicone cases. And i really dont care about scratches on side bezel or corner im more worry about me dropping my phone and screen getting cracked!!! i dropped my phone with the Seidio case on like 5 times and no damages at all.
sorry to hear that. I have experienced scratches by cases before, that's why I don't use hard cases anymore. THe only cases I would go for is silicone and TPU. Even with my Motrola xt720 TPU hard case, it still gave micro-scratches on the phone.
The whole point of getting a case for me was preventing scratches, since I hardly ever drop my phone. Seidio sucks.

What do you mean product to push? If you think I'm trying to lead people not buy Seidio, you are right. But as you mentioned, it appeared to be the best choice in the market at the moment. I'm just posting my experience as a user, if you wanna have a chance of getting your phone scratched, then go ahead and use a Seidio case. However, I feel at least obligated to share my experience and warn others in the G2x community about bad products that I have had experience with. Contrary to you who seems to be a selfish kid.

I will take a picture and post here, but first I need to get a camera. By Friday it should be posted. Now, if you doubt what I'm saying, just google "seidio scratch phone" without quotes. You will be surprised in knowing that I'm not the first one to experience this. Again, I may be the first one to actually post my experience with the G2x and the Seidio case. If I know something, why not share with others?

The inner edges of the cases are curved in too much. So over time, it will cause minute scratches.
Immediate fix would be to sand it down a little.
Here's a pic of one of the corners. That mark is exactly where the cases inner edge is. So no, the OP is not making this up.

Check back in about two weeks. Obviously if you just got it, you aren't going to see this problem yet.
I can confirm that the case has done the same thing on my phone, but not as badly as OP. Still, I'm really bothered by it. Went back to my 4 dollar TPU case and not too happy about it.

Thanks for the heads up, I removed my case to check for scratches, but there were none. I've had the case for about 2 weeks now. To the people who have scratches, do you use vibration? That may be the problem because I rarely use vibration and I have no scratches at all

Nice. I might consider it but I really don't have any battery life problems, guess I don't use it enough. Looks like it would support NFC as well given you use your stock battery in it, that would be a plus for me. Unfortunately that isn't stated anywhere I looked.
Anyway thanks for the info. Will strongly consider this if I should find myself in need of a longer life. Course carrying a second battery isn't that big a deal, I do for backup. Fits nicely in my jacket pocket that fit my old feature phone... Don't even notice it.
I would get it but it doesn't come in black.
Just a warning to anybody that gets this, it does not fit with a glass screen protector on (MIME Feather Glass to be exact). Other than that, it's a very nice case.

Just got it.
Seems to work great, no loss to sound quality and have already gotten use to the slightly heavier feel. All and all, I think it works great and have seen little if any depreciation of reception. :good:
hmm...this product looks really interesting...I really hate bulky extended batteries, but this case might be a great compromise.
how much ?
The big problem is 2.4 oz. (70.5g) and *Wireless charging works only with Qi Mode. Qi receiver is optional and sold separatelya a
looks cool..but I agree, I'd need to see it in black to consider it.
Black color - $10 and I'd buy it.

Purchased original in November. Charging port door split into pieces, just got my replacement in the mail last week. Not sure if this will help you but the rubber headset stopper can be reinserted with a needle if you tie thread around the plug and pull it through with the needle. That headset plug is definitely a problem if you intend to carry your phone in tight spaces where something is likely to pull on it; other than that it works fine and does provide the water protection.
Oh yeah we learned that last night. My hubby ripped the first one in half pulling it through but we scavenged the stopper out of the case with the split charger port. It's much more fragile now though, but at least the case is usable once again. I'll just need to make sure I bluetooth music, really limit my headphone usage.
I never was too fond of lifeproof, it just seems too gimmicky. Living on the beach in Miami, I never needed to being a phone in the water (not the typical facebook/Instagram addict or whatever they use nowadays). Not sure why I even need a phone when in the water? Maybe for underwater pictures? Lol
It's just a trend that I'm sure will die out soon. Best bet would be to go after the reputable brands like seido or Otterbox. Thanks for the headsup.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Another thing to keep in mind is that if your case breaks, even though it's related to build quality and not being manhandled.... Is that you must return the defective case back to Lifeproof *at your expense*. Perhaps I've just been spoiled by Amazon and otterbox but for the price of the case you'd think they could not nickel and dime the return process.

Your welcome keep in mind I had a positive experience with my iPhone 5 Lifeproof for a solid year. It was solid and even though I complained about losing that screw 8 million times it was vastly preferable to this new rubber system. I think they cheaped out with the galaxy cases but kept the prices the same.
Had some of the same issues. Deployed a handful of these cases to my group and they were pure trash. The sound quality was so bad one of our executives was on a call and had to jam a pen though the membrane in order to hear and be heard. It became the norm that before you made a call or answered a call you had to open the charging door to at least stand a slight chance of the person on the other end understanding you.
A couple connections from Lifeproof told me that the defect is known about. One has been holding out on upgrading to the S4 because their case is having so many issues. Their products have unfortunately degraded quite a bit over the last couple years.
I got the LifeProof Fre during the Thanksgiving holiday. I returned it about a week later. I don't think it is a very good quality case and the top layer is very flimsy and the plastic distorts the pixels. The rubber earplug is also not as durable as the iPhone version. I think the case was rushed out the door. Mine also started leaking water after about a week. Buyer beware.....

I haven't tried the Otterbox but I had a lot of problems with Seido and returned it.
My son loves his Lifeproof so I hope he doesn't have these issues down the road. I don't need the water resistant feature and am very pleased with my Body Glove case.
2/16 Update, my replacement case has fractured in the same area as the original case. Makes no sense whatsoever why this case can't handle daily use in this particular area. Again, my iPhone 5 Lifeproof case did fine for a whole year, but it was made of more flexible plastics, I'm thinking maybe whatever material they switched to do for the galaxy series is more brittle? Just sent another warranty case to Lifeproof, this is getting ridiculous.
I know it may be too soon, but are there any waterproof cases for the phone? Even though the phone is water resistant I'd like to have a case for when I go diving in the sea or pool. I know there's pouches but I'm looking for an actual case. Thanks everyone.

I purchased a case like this for my LG V20 and I never used it. It made the phone too big width wise for me. You could always buy one and resell it if you don't like it.
You can buy it on Amazon, I wouldn’t say it was waterproof though.

I've also been searching for a waterproof case for my 6T. I'm sailing a lot in salty waters, phones have a tendancy to stop working....

Nope, we must give up and get a different phone. It ain't gonna happen.
A solution I have used since long ago to play geocaching or Ingress under the rain was to put the smartphone in one of those transparent waterproof plastic bags you use to freeze food. Screen works perfectly under heavy rain. Mobile stay dry. ^^ Best ones for me are Ziploc.
Thanks for contribution. I think it's better to buy a $10 water bag on Amazon instead. I know it's the best we are gonna get. It's still a pita to take/put it off and on off and on.....
You know what can also work?? Condoms, you can put your phone in a condom and tie it well at the end, nothing will go in and nothing out. It's cheap and you just have to wipe it with a wet cloth, and you have different colors if you want to apply filters lool
