Full Screen Photos? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. Is there any way to make a photo you just took to be full screen? There's quite a large gap up top. Is this a resolution setting somewhere? Coming from the S4, viewing photos was gorgeous. Thanks for any help

The problem is the default screen is wide screen but the photos are 4:3 and the default camera doesn't seem to have a setting to change that

Don't know if its the same thing, whitehawx just posted a modded camera app in his valhalla custom ROM thread somewhere on page 15/16ish. It let's you auto use the power button to take pictures. It will auto focus before taking the picture, but you still need to be at least 4 or 5 inches away from the object though.
He wants to focus Video, so no not the same thing

Camera/picture quality question?

When I'm looking at the screen before I take a picture its very vibrant and bright and the quality is amazing but when I capture it then view it there allways very dim, anyone have a solution?

I'm experiencing same issue. Just before I close it, it shows in true colors and disappears.
Same thing here. Only seems to do it while I'm using a rom that has the bravia engine though

Im on out of the box rom, there has to be a solution

In most cases, you have to learn how to use the camera. It's not a SLR system. What you see on the screen is not necessarily what you're going to capture. All the settings, and there are many of them... it's a pretty capable camera, in the camera menu are there for a reason. Leaving everything on "auto" is generally not the best way to approach photography. Experience is the best teacher. Learn what ISO, Exposure, White balance, Contrast, Scene mode, and two dozen other parameters do. It will help you get a great shot when you need one.
are the pictures affected? i'd assume not if everything on auto setting as mentioned above.
I played with the settings still dim pictures

Try increasing the brightness of the display. It should make the pictures look alot better.

I believe you may have misread the question. I think he is speaking of the brightness of the actual image, not it appearance in the gallery. The images are still dark when dumped to a computer. I believe the poster above has it correct to alter settings.
There is information in various reviews online that state that the camera functions well at either high or really low levels of light. If there is SOME light you're out of luck. I find this to be true with mine

The poster did not state that. He simply said it was dim when viewing it. I honestly had the same problem. Taking a picture and seeing how nice it looked but then when I went to look at it in the gallery it was dim. So I tried turning the brightness of the display up alil bit, it looked just as bright when I initially took the picture.

Yeah its the actual picture not the display, has anyone played with the settings and had any better results?

This is decently bright but the room.is much much brighter

I haven't played with the settings yet. But that one you posted is a really good looking pic

Oh I see. That picture is actually good tho. Here is one I took last weekend. The room was really really bright. The camera sensor on our phones need a decent amount of light for the picture to come out bright.

I only experience the issue when viewing in the Gallery, or immediately after taking the shot. When I turn auto-brightness off" they look exactly the same as they did on screen. As for dumping to the computer, I am not 100% but all of the ones uploaded to FB have been fine.
Yeah they ain't too great in dark rooms. But those pics look great. I compared some of my pics with my wife's 4s. She had to take the same pic several times to get it to show the detail mine showed with 1 shot

Can you change the Contrast & Brightness in Video Recording?

Hi guys,
I was recently making a video using the Xperia Play Camera & indoor it was lacking contrast & was a challenge to see what was going on as it was too dark
So like i said, can someone mod the stock camera app to have the options to change brightness, contrast & all these other standard effects?
Thanks in advance

What is the best camera App for IQ?

Hello,
How are you?
SInce I am using my note a bit more to take pictures, I was wondering if there is a camera App that is better than the stock camera in regard to overall image quality, either by lower compression of files, or by better use of the camera hardware.
So, dear note users, what is your take on this?
Thank you.
Cheers!
I use as photo application Camera ZOOM FX https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=slide.cameraZoom is very good camera App :good:
I'm running Paranoid Android and find the stock Camera to be pretty poor. The best alternative I found is:
Pro Capture
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neaststudios.procapture&hl=en
I should say though, that the stock TW camera is better.
CameraZoomFX is good if you plan to add effects and stuff to your pic's. if you want a more DSLR/professional like handling of the cam app and .png files instead of .jpeg, you should take a look at FV-5 Camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.lite there is also a paid version with even more features.
I'm using Pudding Camera and it's really cool but the stock app in TouchWiz is enough for daily use.
I use the Camera X or even the Shot Control Camera.. They have many customizable options like a pro at your finger tips
I am using shot control too.
Dev seems responsive according to comments.
Have emailed regarding geolocation support and custom folder support.
Other than that, it is a pretty sweet app that allows you to access features on the main screen.
So you can control ISO, and exposures, and focus modes easily.
You can also map to hardware keys.
The Note's large screen does help a little here.

@Markuzy Totally agree with you.. Shot control screen is just great on the galaxy note considering the screen size. The feature request is also just what i was looking for.
Is there any mod for the camera on the note? Like there is for the HTC One X?
Cheers

Honestly my dream camera app will be something that can do everything from HDR merging to fast capture to panorama.
Unfortunately I have yet to find an app that does all that. Only the individual apps for each feature can be found.
One thing I found out is that localized touch focus on Gingerbread Galaxy Note is proprietary to Samsung while it is native to ICS.
This may be something that you are missing out on 3rd party camera apps unless you are on ICS already.

Try Camera FV-5. It has all controll on the screen.

Port of Samsung camera APP?

Hello. Is there any port of Sammy or other camera app to N5? Stock is terrible in panoramas - it stitches worse panorama than my previous budget sammy and totally uncomparable to gs3 panoramas.

Since most of these oem cameras can't be ported onto aosp roms for the same phone, im going to say its unlikely. Try 3rd party apps or aosp cameras

Since touchwiz is a closed deal, I would assume that their apps that go along with it are also closed.

try doing a panorama with photosphere instead. its quality will be much higher. and you would need much more than the samsung camera app to make it work, youd need the framework, the cpu, and kernel support for it.
Thanks for quick reply. True - panoramas are muuuuuch better with photosphere. Not as good as with gs4 but good enough. Br!

Just pray someday Google will fix their camera software someday that is near.
It's a shame Google markets the camera like as if it's the best camera ever on the market. Don't market something if your not gonna make your camera software AWESOME.
Even the GSIV and HTC ONE looks crappy if you use an AOSP ROM with the Stock AOSP Camera.
