I have this problem on my phone, when I play some game or browsing or open any app and go back to home screan or exit app my sense launcher restart it self like when phone turning on. I hade this problem before and I factory reset my phone but after 5 days problem is back. Is any one have same problem or solution for it?
Hi,
This is because you don't have enough ram available while browsing or playing games, so android is stopping sense in order to free some ram. I had this problem with sense 4+ because i was having around 150mb of free ram when on the homescreen. Since I use MaximusHD (and therefore sense 5) i have almost 300mb ram available and therefore this problem is almost gone for me.
You can also try to use Greenify on the play store which avoid to have apps running on the background when you don't need them
I assumed that lack of ram making this problem. I will just change in settings how many apps can be open at same time.

Anyone else keep getting sense restarting after coming out of an app?
Nope... Not got any other launchers installed have you?
I'm sure this question gets asked daily. It's because the sensation doesn't have that much memory, and sense 3.0 is hogging too much of it. A change of launcher bypasses the issue.

strange, my device always has 150+mb free when idle, and 200mb+ when i clean my prog-list,
do you actualy close any programs, or only just use the home-icon.
only a different launcher would not change much, sense will still be present.
No, it's the sense launcher itself that causes the issues, and it's that which keeps restarting, hence seeing the HTC screen while it starts up again. Using a different launcher bypasses the issue entirely, though you do lose the ability to use sense widgets. You still use the sense keyboard and can use HTC's apps though.
I never use the home icon as I don't like leaving apps running, I always quit out of them properly if I can help it. Sense takes up too much of the phone's memory, so when you try to change or exit tasks it runs out of memory and can't do it, hence sense stops and restarts from scratch. Seems to happen more the more apps you have on the phone.
Are you rooted?

I am now, but it was doing it beforehand too. Hence why I use a different launcher.
I have noticed that on my Sensation the Sense interface restarts every time I close the market using the "Back" key after installing or upgrading one or more apps.
It does not happen if I go back home using the "Home" button...Can anyone else confirm this trend?

Do you have spareparts installed and if you do is app management set to aggressive?

I used to have the same problem on stock ROM not-rooted so I rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM. This solved my problem and i have no more random reboots.

I had this same issue and just removed spare parts and bingo it's not crashing any more. Spare parts was kinda pointless on gingerbread as the battery history was the main thing I used it for but that doesn't work on gb.
Thanks d3vilskid
Edit: spoke too soon.... Stopped happening with browser and home key. But still happening with market place and back button.
If u have root u can try the market app ram manager it balances ram for everyday. Use and the paid version can free ram for multitasking And gaming
Cyanogenmod Nightlies
Tdj's Demonspeed v10 Kernel
ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0
You can add HOME_APP_ADJ=1 to the build.prop file, and that will prevent Rosie (the launcher) from being killed/restarted by the memory manager.

True! Just did it yesterday and problem solved! Not a single reload since. And I had a LOT of them. Unfortunately you have to be rooted...

anyone else have this where every so often, maybe 1 out of 10 times, when i hit home from an app or something, i get the MyTouch logo for like 2 seconds and then a little notification box that says Loading... for probably 3 or 4 seconds, before the home screen comes up? just thought it was weird since most of the time it doesn't have to load to get to the home screen.
thanks
I use to get that all the time, when i changed my launcher it stopped doing that, this makes me believe that its a bug

Do you use a task killer?
If so that's why.
This is caused by Android not being ready to show your homescreen, so either you were using a very resource intensive app, have a couple resource heavy apps running, an app is coded poorly, or you are using a task killer and screwed up the data for some of your apps.
What version of what are you running? That may help pinpoint your problem.

no task killers, i hate those, they do more harm than good although the phone comes with a task killer of its own in the quick settings i dont use it. i dont really put apps in the background, im always trying to save memory when i can so i completely close every app when im finish with it mostly happens when exiting from dolphin hd. Also all my apps are on the latest version and so is my os.
my old g2 couldn't survive without a taskkillers. not gonna get into the whole taskkiller vs no taskkiller debate. i've read all the articles and it simply wasn't true for me. they helped alot.
that being said though i have no taskkiller. and i'm not using any custom launcher and i'm not rooted. just using a stock mytouch4g. i have a few widgets loaded of course. like 5 i think total, most of which are stock sense widgets (the clock/weather one, the photo gallery one).
Hi everyone, i want to ask this because i'm curious
Why everytime after an app has been installed android restarts the launcher? I've owned a Nexus One, a Desire Z and now a Nexus S but it seem to happen on every Android phone, and i think google has to fix it as soon as they can, for me it's really an annoying thing, on iOS and windows phone it doesn't happen and it makes the overall experience a lot better and fluid.
I can understand that when i'm playing some games android kills the launcher to free some ram and that's ok, but after installing an app is something that shouldn't happen at all.
Is there a technical reason for this?
Thanks!
I don't face problem like yours, can you tell me your rom, version, and launcher app (if u use launcher app like go launcher wx etc)
Sorry for my english

Hello, i'm using ICS Stock (4.0.4), i'm almost sure that happens to you too, but maybe with custom roms reloading the launcher is faster and you don't even notice that
Oh, and i use Nova Launcher
Hello
Yeah i'm using custom rom now, but before i use custom rom, i used the stock 4.0.4 from samfirmware but never face problem like yours...
Have you tried when nova laucher off?

Yes, it happens with the stock launcher too
Where u get the stock 4.0.4?

I received the Over the air update by Google
try full wipe (clean dalvik-cache, wipe cache, wipe data) or reflashing the ics...
remember to backup your data such contacts and messages

i get this every now and then when installing big apps. Im thinking it has to do with the phone caching the app in ram as it installs it and since the nexus only has 512 mb of ram, the launcher is killed at times. My phone also get a bit laggy when installing apps. This doesnt happen on ios because ios handles multitasking and memory management differently than android.
My nexus s also get a bit laggy when installing apps, but only for big app... but my laucher does not restart...

Well i have this too when i modify any of launchers options... i understand this normal as launcher apply changes, and also when u install app some changes also have to be made right ?? Just the way i think about it and i dont see this as problem at all coz i dont think u install new app every 5 min... why bother with such a little thing compared to how amazing ns is ...
Hey guys,
I'm not exactly sure on how I should look this up, so I'm sorry if this isn't new.
It's been a while now, actually, nearly since I got the NS, or since I loaded it with apps. I'm running stock everything, 4.1.1.
My problem is: I get frequent crashes of my (stock) launcher, when using an app and tap on the home button. It's more noticeable on a screen that has widgets, because they take a while to appear and to load the content again. But no error windows, just like if the process shuts down when I'm using an app.
I'm almost sure it's a memory management problem, in fact, I don't even know how NS runs JB so well. In this case, I guess there isn't much to do.
Is this a frequent issue? Do you recommend anything? Any alternative launcher that performs as well as the stock and consumes less ram? Any settings that would improve the memory management?
Thanks in advance,

That's not a crash. It's commonly referred as launcher redraw, and it happens when the launcher is released from the RAM because the RAM is needed for something else. Happens somewhat often with Jellybean on the Nexus S because its meager 512MB of RAM has a hard time coping with user apps + system apps running in the background. Other than making sure as little apps as possible run in the background, there's not much to do.
Most alternative launchers will consume more RAM, so that's not really a solution in itself.
Hey guys, I'm having a problem with Nova Launcher. Almost every time I return to the home screen, Nova takes about 5 seconds to redraw all of the apps. I know 5 seconds may not seem like much, but trust me it is. I only have folders and 2 widgets on my homescreen. I'm also trying to get rid of apps but I'm still having the problem. I've tried using aggressive desktop and locking it in memory through the build prop, but it's not working. Any advice?
FIX: Install Performance Control from XDA, set minfree taskkiler to medium, and bye bye ram problems. I've had zero problems since.
that is very unusual. power down ur phone and restart
or
delete nova launcher and then load it again from play store
I'm having these slow redraws, with any launcher (Google launcher, nova, tsf...).
I want to know a solution too this too. It's very annoying.

5 seconds sounds too much but there is nothing you can do about these redraws except for maybe trying a new launcher. Every android phone with 1 GB ram is going to experience constant redraws if you are a heavy user. That's just sad but hey we got a budget phone after all and at least it doesn't lag within apps.
Sent from my XT1032 using Tapatalk
Go to nova settings. Advanced settings and enable Aggressive Desktop. I just found the option while I was annoyed with redraws too.
Guys Idk if it could be something else, but I rebooted my phone and nova seems to be behaving well now. Maybe you guys should reboot your phones every now and then to increase performance.
Edit: I may have spoken too soon. It seems that heavy resource apps like chrome and Facebook still cause redraws when exiting :/
I solved this problem using this tip: http://www.keanei.eu/2011/07/19/prevent-home-screen-replacement-launchers-from-constant-redraws/
