[Q] SIM Unlock/Flash factory ROM/Root - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Not got the G yet but looking to get one for my sister from Tescos as soon as I can. I see root is now resolved via "superroot", I see that people are getting SIM unlock codes from eBay etc. All good.
I see a lot of talk about flashing the factory rom over the Tesco one - but see many ifs/buts/maybes. Has this 100% been done by anyone?
Finally - if bootloader is unlocked, factory rom installed do I actually need to get a SIM unlock code too? (I would have hoped that would be enough but looking for confirmation from those that know!)
Cheers
Chris

If you want to use a different network other than tesco you will need to obtain an unlock code, unlocking the bootloader and flashing roms will not unlock the device to use other networks

Cheers for the info. Fair do's I guess....

CustomROM in a unlock SIM Captivate

Hello,
I bought a Captivate in USA, the cell works fine in my country (Chile). I want to install a customrom, but I don't know if it's possible considerating the problem of the Sim.
I appreciated if you help me
Thanks

Hi, i bought a factory unlocked captivate from USA and never had a problem with custom roms. The sim never got relocked and i had flash over 20 roms on my phone. And i live in Argentina, without any access to an AT&T sim.
Though i would suggest, that you try to get your unlock code written down somewhere before you do custom roms, specially if you did not buy it factory unlocked. There is an app that gets the unlock code for you, I can't recall its name. Some of the phones get relocked after going back to stock; though I'm not sure if it is because they where manually unlocked instead of factory unlocked. What I do know is that when i tried to get my unlock code it wasn't anywhere, so I started flashing the phone hoping it didn't get sim locked.
If you don't get the code, flash and get sim locked there are several posts that explain how to unlock your phone. Those and the "universal sim unlock" gave me some peace of mind at the time.
Thanks!

Back up your efs directory. It is possible to relock and be stuck if you don't. There is no factory unlock captivate. All are att and have to be unlocked via code.

[Q] Sony Xperia U network unlock

It's probably a n00b question so apologies in advance, but if I root / bootloader unlock and Cyanogenmod flash an Android phone that's locked to a certain network, will that network lock be removed along with the official default Android ROM? Or is the lock at something like a BIOS level (or whatever the smartphone equivalent of a BIOS is)?
I bought a pre-unlocked Xperia U about a year ago that I've been using on Vodafone and had to return it under warranty (got stuck in a boot loop despite the fact that it's totally unmodified, not even rooted, honest!) and the replacement they sent back is locked to Virgin Mobile. They're telling me that the phone I sent them was originally sold to Virgin in France and locked to Virgin before I bought it, and that they've therefore fulfilled their responsibility. So I'm just wondering now about unlocking, and I've always been curious anyway about how / if bootloader unlocking, custom ROMs etc are related to network unlocking.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this!

well u can unlock it.. by getting the code from sony..
It will also unlock the ph..'s Sim lock..
Or ask the sony officialy for this.. they'll provide u every info required.
But unlocking the bl will do the job for you to be sim free
But do double check this from google too.
Also before unlocking pls make a backup as it will wipe everything from the device.
Just unlock and don't flash any custom kernels. If you want to then do it carefully pls with a backup and a copy of flashable stock rom.
Flash custom roms based on stock kernels
Hope this will answer the query..
Thanks for your reply! I spoke to Sony and they just told me to contact the network (which have done and they're wanting to charge me a fee to provide the unlock code). So to clarify, if I root the phone and unlock the bootloader, the network SIM lock will also be removed?

When I dial that number, the number just disappears. What is it for? They want £15.32 for the code. Should I just pay them and forget about trying to remove the lock?

Sorry the code is this
*#*#7378423#*#*
check the sim lock counters should be zero in all..
if zero then once u can try googling the code for unlocking if they work then it's great.
if not then it would be better to pay them for this as its a bit risky..
and are u using virgin's network??
As it's cheaper what they areaskingfor i guess.

[Q] T-Mobile's Z3 debranding for sim unlock.

Hi everyone. I bought a T-Mobile's Z3 used by another guy. He shipped it from the U.S but i'm not there. The thing is: He bought a SIM unlock code but T-Mobile won't let me introduce it because they only let you unlock the phone through their app. The question: If I debrand the phone by flashing the global/international firmware would it let me introduce the code? . I hope you can help me.
I don't think you can just cross flash, at least that is my experience with other devices as well. Also no way to bypass the SIM lock as there is no boot-loader unlock or r oot for the TMO Z3.
As far as I know its an over the air unlock and there is no option to even enter a code... when the app did not work for me I called TMO and they unlocked it within an hour, as I am a current customer.

Root and bootloader unlock have no effect on sim unlock. They are completely different things
It depends by phone/carrier implementation I guess, for my Sprint LG G2 you could bypass the simblock using a method that requires root. In the HTC M8, boot loader unlock with Super CID could achieve SIM unlock as well.
You probably are correct with Z3 though.
Im in the same boat, bought a used z3 and tried to unlock using device unlock app on phone, Failed. I bought an unlock code but there is no menu to input unlock code. If we flash global generic firmware, will unlock code pop up?

Has anyone tried this and been successful? I attempted it this morning but got errors and flash aborted.
Edit
Guys keep trying the unlock app. I almost gave up and tried it one more time after a factory reset. Went through the setup menus. No Sim card, WiFi through my old Xperia z, turned on my location. Opened the unlock app and applied for permanent unlock and BOOM.... Unlocked.
Don't know if any of what I did made a difference but try it if you want.
Best of luck to you all.

[Q] SIM unlocking the T-Mobile version of the Xperia Z3 (D6616)

Hi guys, well the thing is that I'm planning on getting the T-Mobile variant of the Z3 (D6616) but I would like to know if there is a root method for Lollipop?, since the update is already out. I have have searched all over the internet looking for answers but I couldn't find anything (only for KitKat; I know the LP update was released almost 2 weeks ago). I don't if there's something else necessary (apart from getting root access) to be able to SIM unlock this phone, I don't care about custom ROM's, kernels or any other kind of mod that requires the bootloader to be unlocked. Like I said, I just want to SIM unlock it and use the root access for Titanium Backup and maybe disable or delete the T-Mobile apps. Thanks in advance.

Yes there is root for it but I doubt you will be able to sim unlock it unless you pay full price for it from tmobile and us the sim unlock app that's on the phone already.

That's the problem, because there's no way to officially get the Z3 from them (they only have the original Z and the Z1S and the only way to get one is from eBay) and I'm not a T-Mobile costumer. I would like to know if it's possible to get it unlocked with a third party unlock service.
I just bought one for use on AT&T and I'm also looking to sim unlock. I'll update when I find out more.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
If you are one AT&T better to get international version as the 700 Mhz LTE band is different from the TMO version's which is TMO specific. (Band 12)
For indoor use that makes a big difference in signal.
The low bands have better penetration. I am on T-Mobile so for me it's an advantage to use the D6616.
The D6603 (international) supports AT&T 700Mhz in addition to the others.
As for unlocking TMO version, for me I had to call TMO as the app did not work. They will only unlock after 40 days of device use on your account. It's done over the air...
So give it to a TMO customer for temporary use and unlock assuming IMEI is not blocked.

hi
hi, already posted same reply in another sim unlock thread.
i have a d6616 tmobile version and bought the unlock code, non able to input the code, and not able to unlock with the stock app, dual recovery installed and rooted already, is there a way to put the simunlockapp.apk in the system and then using titanium backup pro, to make it internal so after rebooting, simunlock code prompting?
or to flash a rom that prompts the code
or is there any metropcs z3 rom that surely can be flashed even with locked bootloader to tmobile version?
any help
than you very much indeed

Same boat. I bought a brand new one with film on it. But it was a phone only, no box or accessories. IMEI was a separate sticker (4 pieces). I tried to unlock a legal way but T-Mobile rep told me it's not in their system. It has printed T-Mobile logo in the back. I also tried official unlock app without success. They advised me to call Sony directly and ask what carrier it belongs to lol. Great phone, much better battery than G3 but unlocked phone is a must. I decline phones with 2k screens. I can't see no difference between Z3 and G3 screens.

Sim unlock solution developmet for T-Mobile S7 G930T

Hello everyone
Here's my problem and my idea:
I bought T-Mobile Galaxy S7 on ebay about a week ago (Stock QC1 firmware) and now I'm in need of sim unlock, which I can't, my device's unlock fails every time through Device Unlock app
I've searched through the web past two days and found no solution whatsoever. Every service is down for now and I cannot find any ways to unlock my phone.
So, here's what I thought: Maybe here's someone who can actually develop or figure out a solution for this since many solutions are available for S6/S6e and many other t mobile phones, but not for S7.
I can be tester and provide any files/dumps if needed or anything you guys ask.
I believe I'm not the only one with this problem and if we try hard enough, we can do this. Many people can benefit from this also, so let's be useful.
To mods, if you believe this is a wrong place to post this thread, please move it where it belongs.
Thanks to you all.
So your idea is just to look at other device solutions? [emoji1]

We probably wont see a direct unlock solution on these T-Mobile/MetroPCS QUALCOMM based Galaxys for some time. The older models you mentioned are Exynos based CPUs, they are being unlocked all the time. Unlock app or trusted server for imei unlock is our only solutions for now.

I believe of we have alot of people working toward it something interesting would come out if it. Considering s8 is also there, more people Wil be requiring unlock. It's only a matter of time
Factory reset your phone, then try to use the device unlock. You can select temporary unlock or permanent unlock. Once you are done you will have a sim unlocked device.

Actually, MetroPCS s7 & s7e device unlock is available for $20 and Qualcomm S6 and below is also unlockable, there are many remote unlock services on ebay/various websites for those devices.
I've been* trying to unlock my S7 since April but no luck.
I know this issues with t-mobile Quallcomm Galaxys are about locked bootloader but that's the only thing I found out.
If someone can make bounty pool or something similar, I would gladly participate.

Yup. I'm on android 7.0. I could go back to 6.0.1 too. Why do you think this is a method to unlock? You need to connect to Tmobile database to unlock. Merely factory reset won't do anything. It's all in the cloud

I went through the same ordeal. I had to actually call t-mobile and get a representative to unlock it using the phone's IMEI number so it could be used on all carriers. Call them, I'm sure they will unlock it for you. That t-mobile unlock app doesn't do anything. Also under developer options, you need to check OEM unlock before you call t-mobile.
-Just my two cents, Bob

I think you and @boobteg have a paid off devices eligible for unlock. What you need to know ow is that the device unlock app doesn't work on custom roms. It requires a stock rom. There are some of us who are not eligible for unlock.
