I'm seeing the following behavior on my N5 and N7, both running the latest stock 4.4. I have "when to daydream" set to "either". In most cases, it works as expected. However, if the screen is off and the device is already fully charged, daydream mode does not start when I place the phone on my wireless charger. Is this expected behavior? Am I missing a setting somewhere? I would like daydream mode to start anytime I place the phone in the charger, regardless of charge state.
Normal behaviour. If the screen is off, Daydream will not work. It's a screensaver essentially, so why would it come on if the screen is off?
Hmm, I'll have to test this again later, but I think the screen does come on, but only if the battery is not already fully charged when placed on the charger.
Easy answer, turn on the screen then place on charge. There's a great app called Dock Clock that i've used, which will turn on the screen and go into a nice Clock mode when charging.

I'll probably try a tasker-like app that let's me use my favorite daydream mode.

Confirmed this behavior - the screen turns on only if it is not fully charged. I guess this just seems like an odd design that should at least have an option to control it.

Does anyone know of a way to get the screen to shut off after the battery recharges? A popup box tells me to unplug the cable and the screen stays on until I hit ok. This irritates me to no end as I always charge my phone at night, so the screen stays on for hours. Any way to disabled the popup box our force the screen to time out?

I was just thinking about this, and I think I will use Tasker to turn off the screen when that happens.

I would also like to know the answer to this. That pop up is irritating in general.
Your screen doesn't turn off after? Mine always has shut off after about 2 seconds.

Same here, mine always turns off after that pop up.
Mine doesnt turn off either its annoying as hell and lights up my entire room. How can you manage this with tasker?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
For other reasons, I prefer the option to leave the screen on while it's plugged in. So it doesn't shut back off once the popup happens.
Mine always shuts off after a period too. Do you have the setting on to stay awake when plugged in? Simple solution is to put your phone upside down when going to bed. I have to block LEDs on my computer, and its charger to sleep. My bigger annoyance was the sound it makes. I finally figured out that the System Sound controls that volume.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
There is no solution to this. From what I read, Samsung changed it in Froyo build and put this notification on notification bar instead.
If you don't like it lights up in the middle of night, why you keep the phone wake while plugged in?

This is what I've resorted to as well, it's not perfect, but like you say, its really annoying to have it light up the entire bedroom at night. Fingers crossed its fixed in 2.2 like someone said.
In Settings >> Applications >> Development there's a setting named "Stay awake while charging" or something like that.
Does anyone with this problem, by any chance, have that checked?

Mine doesnt do that. The message pops up that the battery is charged and to disconnect the cable, but my screen doesnt stay on. Every morning when I get up my screen is off. As soon as I hit the power button the screen wakes up and I see the fully charged message is still there so I then hit ok, but my screen is never "On" when I first wake up each morning.

It turned out to be a problem with the AT&T JH7 update for me, actually. The screen would stay on regardless of whether that was checked or not (it actually re-checked itself as soon as I left the menu in JH7). Flashed back to JF6 and all is right with the world again. Thanks for reminding me about that option though, I was beginning to think it was some touchjizz quirk.

No such problem here with JH7.
Strange, I wonder why some people's stay on while some do not. If it were a "Stay awake while charging" option issue, then the phone wouldn't have shut off the screen in the first place when you first insert the cable.
What version of firmware are you guys having this issue using?
I'm on stock. Sometimes I actually miss when it's fully charged for an hour or two because it shuts off the screen after a few seconds.
Why not charge it with it off?

There are various reasons you may not want the screen to automatically turn off while it's charging. I would rather just manually click the power button if it's plugged in. I never rely on it auto sleeping the screen anyway. I just leave it charging overnight while I sleep so it turns on the screen when it's full and doesn't shut off.

Mine was one of the updates that "failed", but said it was running JH7 after reboot anyway. It actually worked well with noticeable improvements in GPS performance; apparently that screen problem was some side effect though. Who knows :\
No LED and nothing on screen?
crap, i knew i'd be missing notification lighting but i forgot this applies to charging as well... d'oh...
still excited for mine to be delivered tomorrow... the wait is killing me ... sorry for not having an answer
shortly pressing the power button will bring up a screen animation showing how much of the battery is charged, found out by accident actually!
Actually if you want to see the charging process indicator, press one of the volume buttons to temporarily turn on the screen - this is much better than the power button method as we all know if you hold the power button down too long, the phone boots - undesirable when you are calibrating.
I get very inconsistent results with either button. How do I know when it is done charging based on that green battery indicator?
I just noticed this as well, while the phone is powered on there is NO way to tell that it is charging, or how far it is? all previous phones had at least a small LED that went from red, or orange, to green. This has nothing.
So only if powered off, you can check. lame!
It's a game, you guess how much it's charged and then you turn the screen on to check if you were over or under.
I'm not being smart or anything but why would you turn you phone off to charge it? The only reason I can think if is not wanting to be reached while sleeping or something but at that point you can just silence your ringer.

I bought mine and it's turned off, so there's your answer. I have no way of knowing if it's even charging or anything.
What does it take, .0003 seconds to hit the volume button? My HD2 has all types of notification lights. I never go by them. If I'm looking for notification of something then I usually have my phone is my hand. Very simple to turn it on.

The phone isn't able to be turned on. I just bought it an hour ago and since it's completely dead, I can't turn it on to check anything, nor is there an indicator of if it's even getting a charge. Or I have a bad phone. Either way, it's not exactly a great design.
*It just turned on finally. Guess it was beyond dead when I got it.

I've had two occasions today where the phone doesn't want to wake, and holding the power button down for any length of time does nothing.
Probably something related to GPS, as I think I left Earth running the last time.
I do wish there was an LED, or a capacitive button left on, or SOMETHING.

Negative.........
When the battery is fully charged a small screen pops up telling you your battery is at 100% and to unplug the charger.
There are some apps n the market that will put a small light on your screen for charging, email, text, ect.
I noticed today while I was trying to get maximum charge in minimum time that after I turned my phone off and charged it, it automatically turned on. After I noticed this while it was still plugged in I shut it off again and much to my dismay it turned on again!

Phone will not turn off if USB charging/syncing; must use AC charger. Another alternative is to buy a second battery & wall charger specific to that battery; I have this setup for my Samsung Focus, but use it infrequently.
Would you mind testing something?
Turn off your phone, plug in the AC charger and see if the phone automatically turns on automatically?
Then if it does turn on again shut it down again while it's still plugged in to see if it turns on automatically again.
Thanks, I'm trying to see if this issue is unique to my device so I can report it as a bug.
Windows Phone 7 works this way. I was a bit surprised too, but the explanation from MS was that the charging circuit in the phone is software-controlled, and in order for that software to run, the phone must be on.
Yes, I know anybody with a modicum of software design experience knows how lame that sounds, but that's the "official" explanation. You *cannot* turn off the phone while it's connected to external power.
The good news is that while charging, the WiFi is left turned on, so if you have a WiFi connection, you're not using 3G data in this scenario. That was my primary initial concern (but not the only one).
Brad.
So since it's software controlled it must be possible to disable it through some option.
if you disable it, you will lose an option to charge the battery...simple as that
I guess this is yet another feature I enjoyed with WM that I can't (hopefully yet) enjoy on WP7.
I don't understand why you would make a purely hardware thing like charging into software...
Well, I don´t really undestand why is it such a problem, you can still turn the airplane mode on, this way there will by no cellular transfer, and put phone into sleepmode, if you do this, what do you think, by how much slower you would have your phone charged compared to turning it off? 5 minutes? Well that´s an achievement...
I wish I had two identical devices and I could run an actual test on this but I can only use my old TP2. I've always been under the impression that if your device is charging while it's off that it charges much faster than if it is on (consuming power) and trying to charge at the same time. It's always made intuitive sense to me that that's the case.

unless there is some sort of software based charging optimization involved.
I posted this in the geforce forums as well with no response so I'm trying here. Original post: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/903373/k1-tablet-screen-turns-on-randomly
I haven't had this tablet for longer than a week now. When it's charging the screen turns on randomly. There will be no notifications or anything on the screen. It keeps happening when it's charging and i have no idea why. I don' t have a case yet so it has woken me up a few times over the night from lighting up my room whenever the screen turns on.
This doesn't seem like normal behavior to me.. has anyone had this happen to them? Should I be concerned and try to get a new one?
Has anyone fixed the problem?
Thanks

Nope, everything is stock..
Then I don't know man...
The same happens to me with every custom ROM in my locked bootloader tablet. With stock it behaves normal, so I concluded that somehow it has to be something related to bootloader or something.
But re-reading you again, it isnt the same thing. In my case, The whole tablet turns on after being off when charging. Not The screen only. If I were you, I would do a factory reset and would see if it does The same thing with no other apps installed.

I have this happen using both the stock kernel and the BitO kx 060 kernel, but only when charging from my laptop usb. Using ampere to monitor battery charging I notice that my laptop's output fluctuates up and down, sometimes down to zero. For me I'm assuming it turns on when it either stops getting a charge, or resumes charging. I do not have this problem using a wall charger, but i am using a 5v 2a charger. Hope this is of some help pointing you in the right direction.

ooohhh.. that's a good idea. Thanks! I'll have to try another power source when I get home. I'll try that and will update the thread with my findings.
Hey, just thought I'd ask if you ever found a solution to this? It's happening to me, too: brand new, entirely unmodified K1, straight from the shop. While charging, the screen keeps turning on and off, which is not only mildly annoying but probably makes the charging take a lot longer than it needs to.
That's actually normal for Android devices. If the screen is off and you plug the charger in, the screen goes on. Same when you unplug. So that you see/know it's indeed charging. However, you can change the screen Sleep time and Daydream under Display.
if i leave my moga controller connected my screen keeps turning on
Happens to me as well, wild guess for me is there isnt a charging animation for the tablet when it is powered off, if i power mine off the second i plug it in to charge it will light up with a black screen 1st then proceed to normal boot, or sometimes there's a battery charging pic then it boots normally
Is there any way to stop the Note 5 from waking up when you plug or unplug the charger? I had a similar issue on my old S4 that I was able to eliminate, but that phone was rooted. I have not rooted the Note to keep Samsung Pay. Any suggestions?

Isn't this phone waking up, when you plug or unplug charger a natural thing ?
Just the way devs planned the device to function or is it really an issue.

For me, the wake up is a hassle. For example, every time I set my phone on my wireless charger, the phone wakes up and I have to turn the screen back off so it will charge faster. Also, when my alarm goes off in the morning and I disconnect the phone from the charger, the screen comes on and lights up the room until I can turn the phone off again. I would like to avoid both of these scenarios.

Same for me. I have a wireless charger by my bedside and I hate that it comes on when I put it on and take it off. Especially since I get up way before my wife and just want to grab my phone and not turn it on until I'm out of the bedroom. I can't believe they don't make that an option in settings someplace.
edit: The no wake on charge option in this xposed tweaks app works. http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.smartmadsoft.xposed.aio Though have to be rooted (no Samsung Pay and running Xposed)
