Focal Unable to Take Picture - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to use the search function, but advanced search is unavailable, apparently.
Is anyone else having issues taking pictures with focal? I can't get it to take a shot. Preview works, but when I press the button, it just tells me that it's unable to take picture.

[Q] Pictures post sideways

When i post pics all of them are sideways?Any ideas why? Thanks.
My guess is that you are turning your camera sideways to take the picture, which sets something in the meta data of the pic and then when you look at it in the gallery or whatever other program you use to view it automatically rotates it to show you but doesn't actually change the file so when you go to upload the pic it is still sideways.

I also have this issue. I turn my camera, take a photo, and then rotate it using the gallery so it's the correct angle, then upload it to FB and the photo seems unaffected from the rotate. It seems tedius to have to get a seperate app just to rotate photos for FB, or to manually have to go to FB to rotate them... Any ideas?
I just hold the camera the way it's supposed to be held...
Ok thanks maybe that's why because im not holding camera like it should be.thanx again.

this happens on most android phones. The camera default way of taking a picture is long ways up and down not side to side.
I haven't noticed any difference. Sometimes they post sideways no matter what way I took the picture. Took one today sideways and it posted correctly. Could it possibly be in the settings?

Yeah I haven't had this issue. Maybe the accelerometer isn't reading right or something? Everything works fine taking pictures tilted to the side and such.

Question(s) about the cm10 camera?

I've been a long time user of the android camera app, touchwiz camera was downright amazing.
I recently flashed a cm10 based ROM and have been playing around with the camera and have some questions.
1. Do you need to tap the screen to focus every time you want to take a picture? My past cameras had the constant block of auto focus so you could just wait for the green and snap. Or does the tap focus only pertain to the spot you want to focus on?
2. Is there a macro mode?..perhaps this is 'flower' mode?
Finally...anyway to turn off the shutter sound other than silent mode? This ones not anything major I just figured I would ask. Thanks guys!

No, you don't need to tap the screen to focus every time. If you move around to different points in camera mode you'll see the screen zooming in and out to focus on the point in the center of the screen. I think the tap is to focus on a point off the center of the screen (taking a photo of someone while their not centered in the screen)
There is a macro mode. When you open the camera there's a settings button right next to the negative zoom slider. After that there's a 3 button settings right where you just clicked, and in there you'll find macro/burst, and all the other extras.
I haven't seen a shutter sound off option yet.
Thanks! I am still unable to find macro..I did find the burst shot which ranges from 5-20 shots. However I don't see macro listed. Maybe I'm just missing it. If you are able could you upload a screenshot of it please? Thanks again!

You're welcome. I can't make a screenshot whenever I try it says that my storage is in use (assuming because camera is open) but if you go into the settings like I described before... the 4th one down gives you "focus mode" that's set to continuous.. click on that to the right and you'll find macro in there.

The AOSP camera is definitely lacking compared to the TW one.
That being said here is an ongoing project to add more features to the AOSP camera in order to make it closer to TW:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
I do miss the TW camera, but camera isn't a deal breaker for me to remain on TW... I see more benefits using aosp instead.
Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to bookmark it and check back periodically to see if there's improvements. I see in screenshots its able to store on extsdcard which is nice.
You can easily get rid of camera sounds renaming the sound files from CM -> media -> audio -> ui
just rename the camera files and video files with ending .bak and reboot your phone. After every update you have to do it again.

Sliding to the right in the camera doesn't show most recent picture

When I take a picture and slide to the right to view the picture it doesn't show my most recent shot. It shows the shot I just took two pictures behind. So basically I have to slide to the right two pictures to see the picture i just took. If I delete the two pictures, it works fine for a bit, then this starts happening again. Anyone else experiencing this?

Try fiddle with timezone detection settings.
I used to have this problem on my n4 sporadically and seems most if the time happened with photo spheres stuck in a future time. Toggle the timezone detection setting a bit and see if it goes better?

Cyanogen Camera issues

Not sure if its just me or if anyone else is experiencing this issue
As you can watch this video, it takes forever for the camera to take pic and then processing it..
If I close the camera app before it thumbnail goes to the top right corner, it seems to just delete itself..
BTW, Im on CM11s rom, running franco kernel, in case anyone wants to know...
Thanks for any help..
You're using HDR mode that complies multiple exposure settings to get you the best pic. It's always slower than non HDR mode.
That looks horrible.
HDR mode on my nexus 4 works a lot faster.

First pic was in auto mode.. you can see after I focused on the car, I hit the shutter button... 3 secs later, sound and then another 7 secs later the pic gets taken.. I then swiped to the different scene modes
but regardless which scene mode, does the same thing... really annoying.. tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times but same thing...
not sure if theres a similar topic, but Ive noticed an issue with saving photos after they are taken, it takes couple minutes or more for them to show in gallery.
if I take a photo, and go out of the camera app and enter gallery, the most recent photos wont show.
But if I go back to camera app and swipe right, it will show them there.. wth?!
Try downloading the latest version from play.

[Q] Disable burst photos?

Has anyone figured out to disable burst mode when taking pictures in Auto mode? I remember the Note 3 had the option to disable the option, but no such toggle can be found in the camera settings on the 8.
Good question, anyone can help?

I've looked, as well, but read that it cannot be disabled. If you're concerned about getting a blurred picture because of having to touch the screen (which moves the camera), try using the voice commands for taking pictures.
I've heard some people are having problems with the burst taking like over 100 pictures and not stopping. I luckily haven't experienced this.
I think it's also possible to set one of the volume buttons to take the picture.

I may have to try that, it's possible they just don't give an option to disable it. It'd be nice to have that option though. It'd be easy enough to add with an update.
