I imagine it is much easier for T-mobiles automated system to track total data usage vs tethered data usage.
I know I used to have the 2GB plan, and getting throttled sucks. My question is, why do you need to tether 20 gb a month?
Also, why does everyone on this forum trying to find ways around paying their bills? At first I thought people were having real issues tethering, then I realized people are having issues tethering, that didn't have tethering on their plans. And were COMPLAINING that they couldn't tether.

T-Mobile has begun to sell an unlimited data plan that becomes throttled at 2GB of use with no over charges. Is this plan going to become T-Mobiles only* unlimited plan, or just a different option? On my current plan I don't worry about speed reduction until I hit 5GB of data usage. I use 3-4GB a month on average, so if the 2GB plan becomes their only "unlimited" plan its going to be quite the bummer.

Right now, I'm using a smartphone without a data plan.
Whenever I surf the web, I get the upsell subscribe to a data plan, and there are 2 options
4G Web 200MB $0.10 overage for $10
and
4G Web Unlimited for $25
On T-Mobile's website I see a 4G Web 200MB Unlimited for $10 ( YOu get capped after 200MB)
Is it possible for me to get the 4G Web 200MB Unlimited instead of the 4G Web 200MB $0.10 overage?
You're using an older Even More Plus rate plan, where the only choices for data are the $10 200MB 4G plan with overages and the $25 unlimited plan. Newer rate plans have the 200MB, 2GB, 5GB, and 10GB choices. Changing to a new rate plan will allow you to get the $10 overage free plan.

Yep, I'm using the Even More Plus rate plan. However, is it it possible for me to get the 200MB plan UNLIMITED but throttle for $10 without getting a new plan?
Should I walk in to a Tmobile store or would they just laugh?
Ok... I am slightly confused...
Isn't this the HTC Sensation(4G) Accessories forum? lol I think you will have better luck in a forum made for T-Mobile or something like that.
I'm grand fathered in to the AT&T Unlimited Data plan $30 extra a month. I just received a letter telling me that due to my tethering usage, they will automatically enroll me into a 4GB monthly tethering plan and add extra charges. It doesn't make sense to have an unlimited data plan if you can't use it for tethering. You've paid for the data so what difference does it make if you use it for tethering.
Any feedback would be well appreciated and also if there is any app that can mask the tethering mode of your device so they think its only the device using the data.

Lol I know right.
I am not amused by your phones performance
This has been covered too many times to count in the past few months. Bottom line is read your TOS. Unlimited data was started for the business user that had to use alot of data while away from his PC. Not for the person wanting to tether.

I have unlimited $10 data plan for non smart phones. When I got my skyrocket I used it with that "non-smart phone sim card" and it worked, I even disabled the carried detection and used tethering and worked flawlessly. I updated the phone to the first leaked ICS and continued to do the same without issues. When I updated it to the second leak last month, AT&T detected it as smart phone and changed the data plan to 3GB LTE for $30. I didn't root, disable the carrier detection or add anything special, just the "stock leak ICS"
I've been having the phone for almost 6 months. Any idea what could be the reason it was detected and how to prevent that?
I don't mind paying the $30 but I use my phone to stream video, games and so many things that 3GB or even 5GB won't be enough for me.
It's not too difficult for AT&T to detect when a device on a non-smartphone plan is using more than about 500KB of data per month.

many other carriers use unlimited data plan now..why would you need unlimited if you won't use it!! what's the point of having unlimited data plan if they don't want you to exceed 3GB or 5GB! it reminds me with home internet services when it started...sooner or later everyone will be on unlimited high speed data plans

Ya but the unlimited is for phone use not for tethering... What's the point of having smartphone unlimited if everyone is using it to tether and get internet for the whole house?? Also, do those other carriers allow tethering on their unlimited plans??

If they're not capping it, it's for one of two reasons.
1. The service is slow as balls, like T-Mobile's "unlimited" where you get 4G speeds for x-amount of data, and then unlimited access at the speed of molasses.
or
2. You're paying an arm and a leg for data.
I read other threads where people on LTE plans were getting Throttled and I know the solution is just changing the Apn to a Hsdpa Apn instead of LTE, but I'm not sure how to beat this one. You might try this solution but you are still going to use the 3gbs just a little slower. And for the record(To the people who feel it's right to pay twice or even 3x for internet when intending to tether, lmao)we get robbed enough by these corporations like AT&T & Verizon so if you can beat them at their own games then more power to you my friend. Just keep looking for the answer. There may be a way Good luck
Edit** I just figured out that a skyrocket is s galaxy s2(lol). Now your thread is much more amazing to me. How the hell were you on a $10 unlimited internet plan with a higher-end android? I thought the other phones used wap browsing & connected to apn that way?? Good job. Maybe you could pm me the apn config.

Its not a matter of IF but WHEN... they run serial number sweeps an put any smartphone on correct plan. You disable carrier check, an they look at abnormal use on certain data plans.... Randal Stevenson said a few weeks ago in an interview that when consumers use too much bandwidth, he has to invest capitol into rebuilding the network. The more money the company spends, the more eager they will be to look for means to make it back i.e. raising everyone's costs... so kudos to the 2% of folks that ruin it for the people that stay within reason!

I have grandfathered unlimited data & also grandfathered unlimited data hotspot from verizon. I think I pay $30 monthly for the hotspot feature. I know there are many ROMS that have native tethering without having a hotspot subscription.
What I am wondering is if I cancelled my hotspot, would I be able to use the phone's unlimited data plan to use insane amounts of tethered datas? The month I moved and was without internet for a month I used 70+ GB on my hotspot (which has unlimited data) and Verizon never made a peep. I gather from "openyoureyes" recent post that he uses 55+ GB of data every month without a word from Verizon. I don't know if any of that is tethered.
Does anyone use native tethering on an unlimited plan, using lots of tethered data without incident? I guess I'm asking if Verizon has any way to know if your unlimited data is being used by your phone or a tethered device if you use native tethering?
Thanks
I use anywhere from 50-80 gigs a month and Verizon hasn't complained. I don't have a tethering/mobile hotspot plan but I do have my beloved grandfathered unlimited data and I use the native mobile hotspot a lot...been doing this for at least 2 years.

I have unlimited data grandfathered - and I use the hacked hotspot constantly. I let my kid watch netflix while we're driving long distances (most weekends). I watch netflix myself, often. I easily use 60-80 gigs a month. Verizon has never said anything - ever.

Thanks for the $30 a month guys, where do I send the check?.....
Unlimited data here and I don't pay for the hotspot either. I don't use near as much data as those folks above but I've been doing it for almost 3 years.
$30? **** that.

Did Verizon not lose a class action over charging for LTE hot spot some thing about breech of deal with the spectrum and them agreeing to not charge for the feature.
Yeah, for tiered data subscribers. Unlimited subscribers is kinda a grey zone.

Correct, but that is for the "new plans", the ones with limited data use. I don't know if they specifically say NOT unlimited, but it wasn't intended for us. However, I don't think it would be hard to dispute if they randomly tried charging you extra.
I use about 40GB a month, most is from normal use. Maybe 10GB is from tethering... I try to do most of my downloading through my phone so they don't try to get me for tethering. I can literally do anything I want from my phone that my laptop can do (in terms of data use), its just a little more convent to tether sometimes.
