because the N5/32GB version for CZ wont be available at least until the next year, I ordered the phone via shipto from US. I thought that google done the homework correctly for the first time and that they will finally have first global device, unfortunately either of us, google end me didn't done the home work correctly.
So now I'm waiting for the US device LG D820 which will work here on the GSM, but its not supporting bands on which the is/will be running in CZ
as following list:

According what i found on the internet:
Networks (North America) - LG D820
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
Networks (Rest of World) - LG D821
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
And according to the band list in CZ LTE is or will be running on bands 3,7 and 20. From what i have read from other posts, forums, pages, fcc and so on it looks like the device or hw on the device should be able to work on all bands but it acts on localized firmware configuration.
My question is there or would somebody working on a fix which will enable all the LTE bands on the phone, from what i understand its just about flashing the right firmware for the chip so if somebody would found the way if there wont be way to make the phone global would be there way at-lest to flash 821 to 820 and vice-versa? I can survive on the 3G for some time but in other hand in the future i want to use the LTE....

Well my idea was that the phones ale physically same and that the only difference are the enabled bands. Where did you found the details about the physical differences? Please post...

I see that this phone have more radios/antennas then the EU spec, or you want to tell me that for each LTE band there is a special dedicated antenna, amp and so on?....
This looks kind a strange to me since i found somewhere else that the phones have same HW, somebody was posting on one of the threads bellow that only difference between 821 and 820 was one resistor and that was even between 32gb and 16gb versions otherwise that person was sending that they are literally the same.
Also these days i would expect that they will not completely develop two different devices. My assumptions are that they don't want to sell the full 13 band phone in the US because of the regulations since LTE is disturbing GPS used by US-US military so because of that some bands are dropped in the US and FCC will not approve such devices, but that are just my wild assumptions since i don't live in US.
I can't say for sure whether or not the d820 can be 'unlocked' for more bands or not, but if the d820 and d821 are exactly the same except a software lock on the radios, why would the d821 even exist. Why not just, not lock the radios via software if indeed that is what's happening and boast about having a truly world traveling phone. Again I can't dispute yes or no about the radios existing and being locked or not, just seems illogical if that is the case.

I can. Its a hardware limitation. The US are crazy with their bands so they need a dedicated radio just for them

Well it would be nice to unlock it but after some more research i found it that for this phone, LTE will be only available here on band 3, one operator is testing this for a year now, another(which i use) started last month, the third we have heave will start next year. So at the end i don't care about this, cos i don't have unlimited data-plan anyway and even the 3G is pretty ****ty here so I don't expect that it will work least in another 12 months and then that the coverage will be good enough. Also since i will save up approx 1/3 of the estimated price what the 32GB device will cost here, I'm pretty much happy

ROMs between D820 and D821 are compatible with each other. Each Radio Hardware device has it's own Baseband, which is technically software.
A D820 will still work up to DC-HSPA everywhere in the world though. It is only LTE that is missing.

It is for real. Check out the specifications on the main htc website it says exactly the same thing. The Europe/Asia version will work on Verizon, but you won't be able to get WCDMA speeds. The US version has 850/1900 WCDMA, whereas the Europe/Asia version as mentioned on the HTC site has 900/2100. Would be nice if they could make one with all 4 WCDMA's
I have definitely seen some sites that claim the Touch Pro is only Tri-Band, but the HTC site would be the one to go by seeing as they made it an all
WCDMA (3G) is where it differs. All Touch Pro's do NOT have 850mhz WCDMA. You can get service everywhere, but only 3G in areas with 900/2100mhz 3G... AT&T uses 850/1900 for 3G.

No they do not all have it activated, smart guy ....look here at the official Dutch HTC site specs:

And after browsing this forum for weeks now its still not clear to me if the 850mhz band can be activated with just a rom/radio update..... a lot of different opinions in here....

First of all, it is a ROM flash, second, their specs page for english used to say triband too but they changed it to quad band...
I have a friend who works for ATT and just tested the new HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) and said that ATT is planning on releasing them in November, code named "ATT Fusion."
Of course, they claim it's real...

These guys say (of course) they got a few in stock and they sold quickly. These are actually the EUROPE/ASIA version but the rep claims they are Quadband and that 3G works on both AT&T and T-Mobile (US). They are getting more in next week.

That's interesting. Did he get to take any pictures by any slight chance?
The more I read the more I get confused.....are the phones (if as advertised) in the site mentioned on post 14 likely to be working with ATT 3G?
UMTS/HSDPA for 850/900/1900/2100 on Touch Pro
I also keep on hearing this regarding bands on the Touch Pro. Can the UMTS/HSDPA band be activated for 850/900/1900/2100 by just flashing a custom ROM or changing the Radio Version? Please someone answer this....

I live 40 minutes from Chicago and have asked this company about AT&T, Quad Band, and actual prodoct availability.
If they have them in stock, I will drive to their store, insert my AT&T SIM card and see if it will actually work.

Yea...I'm close to these guys too. Actually there are about 5 electronics storefront stores all next door to each other over there on W. Devon in Chicago. I bought my last 4 unlocked GSM phones from that area. Oddly enough, Popular Electronics have NEVER been the first to have any of the phones I wanted. For the past 2 years their usual answer has been "It will be here MONDAY." But "MONDAY" takes months to come!
The guys next door at Overseas Electronics (http://www.welectronics.com/) have always gotten the phones FIRST in that area--including the TyTN II. Even the other store next door to them (http://bargainoffers.com/catalog/default.php) get the hottest GSM phones before Pop Elect. This time though, Overseas say about 3-4 weeks out for the Touch Pro...so I'm really interested to know if Pop Elect actually gets them FOR REAL "by MONDAY" this time.

[Q] Help with AT&T bands, or why the rest of the world is more advanced than the U.S.
I need to buy a smartphone before the end of June for use in my new life in mainland China, but have ended up with many questions regarding how useful my phone would be if I returned to the U.S.
So China, being civilized like the rest of the world, uses only the 2100 band GSM for its 3G, at least at China Unicom. So as far as I understand, any phone that gets GSM 2100 gets 3G.
The trouble is what happens if I move back to the U.S.? I want a phone that will last for years. Seems like the only game in town is AT&T unless the feds stop the T-Mobile deal. So my phone has to be 850/1900/2100 to get 3G in the U.S., as I understand it. (At&T isn't exactly forthcoming on this on its site, so this is from this forum and other sources.)
My two candidates are the LG Optimus 2X and the Samsung Nexus S. The 2X has 900/1900/2100 3G bands and decent enough hardware that I'm relatively futureproof gear-wise. The Nexus S has -- at least where I live currently -- 900, 1700 and 2100 3G bands, and Google's stamp of approval means I'm futureproof on the software side.
My confusion comes from what all these numbers mean. Does my phone has to be just one of these bands to get 3G? Two of them? Or is all this a misnomer, and 1900/2100 is in fact its own unique band? Why do I need all these extra bands when most countries have just 2100? What am I missing if I go LG 2X and miss the 850 band?
Does having only two and not all three on my phone mean I would get 3G data only some of the time? Or must I meet all these criteria? Is one upload and one download?
And why is U.S. telecom so screwed up while the rest of the world seems to do just fine? (OK that one may be more of a rant than a question)
There are phones that hit on all the bands, but Motorola is closed software-wise and I don't want that, while Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4 are both too expensive for me.
I'm clearly slow, and not an expert, but if anyone has time to educate me I would much appreciate it.
Hmm, this site suggests AT&T works on either 850 OR 1900. In other words, you need just one or the other on your phone, but not both:

The bands are frequency ranges, so it means that the phone will broadcast/receive on the 850 MHZ range, or 1900 MHZ range. Don't know if this helps, but that is what they are talking about.

I think you will find www.pdadb.net to be your new friend. So bottom line is if you want AT&T 3G you need 850/1900, Australia and Canada are the only other places that utilize these bands for their 3G from my knowledge. If you can find a Nexus S that has the North American bands it will do AT&T 3G (it will be the Canadian version). The normal Nexus S state-side is the AWS packed version (AWS = 1700 or T-Mobile 3/4G).
900/2100 are your standard European international 3G spectrum, and well 2100 is pretty much everywhere, even China as you found!
Say you go the AT&T store and ask them for a "World" phone then it is more than likely banded for 2100 in addition to 850/1900!

EDIT: On PDADB.net you will want to look for UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100. IF it says GSM850, 1900, etc. that means it will do 2G on those bands but not pick up 3G on them!

Where I live the i9020a hasn't appeared, and why should it? It's needed only in America. Meanwhile, the LG Optimus 2X is the same price here as the Nexus S, which is very very tempting.
Still, I may hold out until the i9020a or the white version of the Nexus S appears, and decide accordingly.

I am seeking some assistance in deciding on a new unlocked GSM phone for my international travels. I will be deployed into Afghanistan soon and need foremost a phone that will work there with a local SIM. I have tried to do some research on various phones and unless I am misreading things getting a phone to work for all voice channels is easy, it seems on the data side however no one phone seems to cover all the base frequencies, tough perhaps they do not need to.
Even though I will spend most of my time in the Middle East, I will vacation to other international locations. Also, while it does not need to work well in the USA (I have a CDMA phone for that) it would be nice as a backup, or to be usable if I never head back home for long periods.
Here is a list of things I would like in a phone, if they can all be met, great, if not or there is a compelling reason not to, feel free to chime in as well.
1. Android
2. Dual-Core Processor
3. Minimum 768MB Ram (Would prefer 1GB)
4. Hackable
5. Good battery life (At least reasonable)
6. Works in as many places as possible for both voice and data.
So far I have been looking at the Motorola Atrix and the HTC Sensation. It would seem that perhaps there are different versions of these phone supporting different data frequencies, but again, I am just not an expert on this topic.
I just am not on my game when it comes to GSM technology.
Any help, suggestions, recommendations, etc the great and knowledgeable people on this forum would be willing to make would be greatly appreciated.

Today, most telephones support multiple bands as used in different countries to facilitate roaming. These are typically referred to as multi-band phones. Dual-band phones can cover GSM networks in pairs such as 900 and 1800 MHz frequencies (Europe, Asia, Australia and Brazil) or 850 and 1900 (North America and Brazil).
European tri-band phones typically cover the 900, 1800 and 1900 bands giving good coverage in Europe and allowing limited use in North America, while North American tri-band phones utilize 850, 1800 and 1900 for widespread North American service but limited worldwide use. A "new" addition has been the quad-band phone, also known as a world phone, supporting all four major GSM bands, allowing for global use (excluding non-GSM countries such as Japan).
The Sensation has Quad-band, and supports:
HSPA/WCDMA:
- Europe/Asia/T-Mobile US: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
- 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
The Atrix supports:

Thank you for the response, it is appreciated. Are you saying that the Sensation has a little better coverage given it is WCDMA? I still only see 3 frequencies, unless the AWS represents more than one in the list for that section.
If choosing between these two would you prefer one over the other? Also, are there better choices I should perhaps be looking at that I have not considered?

I'd suggest a cheap unlocked quad band phone like Huawei 8180(110$) or LG GT540 Optimus(130$).
When travelling, depending on the place you are going to,
1) There is a risk of loosing or theft.
2) There is a risk of damage due to natural causes. (Some places are prone to lightning, power surges etc...)
Factors to consider when picking the phone,
1) you should pick resistive touch screen if you intend to travel to a very cool place where you will have to wear gloves or a place with high humidity(rain forests) where capacitive touch phones may malfunction.
2) Make sure it's a quad band phone. Quad-band phones could virtually be used anywhere. Tri-band WCDMA would be advantageous but WCDMA on the frequency commonly used in the country you are travelling to would be better.
In some countries with bad network penetration, you'd be better off picking a satellite telephony. They very low-end specs but they can keep you connected anywhere.
People would be able to make more relevant suggestions if you mention the country you are travelling to.

The bands you need to worry about is 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.
I don't have time to check myself, but check out google and see which frequencies are the most used in Afghanistan.
But every GSM device should work fine there.

I recently got this device in Hong Kong and is hapi with its performance!
But I am still wondering if this device could actually use the LTE available in HK?
I knw the msm8960 claimed to be capable of utilizing all frequency of radio,
so is it possible that there is some soft lock in the baseband?
Could i flash the baseband or replace the modem driver from other device to access other frequency?

I tried to figure out, if our Photon Q is supporting more LTE bands than 1900 MHz (#2 or/and #25).

On some sites there are reports for having another band. (Have to search again, I think it was 850 MHz, #26 or 700 MHz, #12/#17/#29.)
I have also searched for supported frequencies for MSM8960.
I found some BlackBerry devices based on that SoC and 2 different versions of supported LTE bands.
One version (UK) supported 4 in europe used bands und the other version (US) supported 4 in US/Canada used bands.
I think that the Photon Q is like the BlackBerry US version and supports 4 LTE bands in US/Canada.
If you need a few sites, I will search again and show it to you.
The strange thing is, if I set to LTE only (via 4636) I can see all 4 carrier (germany).
We have 3 bands with LTE on it, but I can only get signal to max 2 of them.
Band 3, 7 and 20 (1800, 2600, 800 MHz).
The weird thing is, that on band #20 (800 MHz) only 3 carrier are active, so it has to be band #3 or #7.
Maybe I'm missinterpreting things and thats just a sideeffect of crossing bands of LTE US and UMTS Germany.
On stock ROM there was another "secret phone code" to see what the phone-part is doing. (From qualcomm I believe.)
I think I will test it some other day, to see which band is active.
At last, I was never been able to "login" or "register" into my carriers network within LTE.
Please discuss about that possibility, I really want to find out, which frequencies are supported by our phone on LTE.

Of course, I was just blind guessing the hardware for xt926 and xt907 are using the same hardware.
If not, there should be one chip controlling the modem channel of the device to be replaced.
But WHICH ONE???
Any expert in this area can solve this question? I am a dummy for radio stuffs

I'm also very interested in this topic since I imported a Photon Q to Germany and was wondering if it's possible to use the local LTE 800/1800/2600 bands.
I think the first thing we have to find out is whether the hardware is capable of using other bands than the 1900 band listed on the Motorola website. As Loader009 states he could see LTE carriers which are known to use different bands I assume the hardware can do it. Otherwise the carriers wouldn't have been listed, right? Maybe someone from another country with different frequency bands can check and confirm that he can see those carriers as well?
Thus, the limitation to the 1900 band should be software-made and could be modified by a developer. I hope someone can participate at that point as I don't know much about coding...
I'm using CM10.1.
I can't remember the secret phone code, I have to do research again.
This secret phone code only works on Stock ROM. (I stupidly deleted it, when it wasn't working on CM10 anymore.)
The one secret phone code I used to force "LTE only" was *#*#4636#*#*.
Please DON'T change the baseband (don't even tap on it).
This can do problems to you. (I had to use QPST to recover the supported frequencies.)
Also, developers (afaik) can't modify the modem firmware.
We also don't even know, which LTE bands the Photon Q is capable of. (Except 1900 MHz)
I've got my 32GB SDCard back and will test it in the next few days out.
I hope I'll find that secret phone code, I'll also make a few screenshots.

Based on the document the chip can handle all LTE Standards, but it depends on his "advanced, programmable architecture"....as written there and how Motorola / Sprint implemented this, maybe they reduced LTE only to one Standard.
I don't have LTE in my area and so I cannot test this.

If I remember correctly, somewhere in this forum have been said that for CDMA the internal Sprint "ID"(?) is used.
Maybe that's also the reason why I cannot connect to LTE in my area.
The phone is trying to "login" with the Sprint ID and this of course won't work.
The ##DEBUG# menu wasn't helpfull. It shows frequencies for american standards and not for GSM/WCDMA.
Also the LTE menu is also not very helpfull, it doesn't show frequencies at all.

Yesterday I tested a LTE compatible SIM card.
My Bro has a Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4G/LTE in my area.
So I've put his SIM-Card into my Photon Q and set LTE only.
I had no luck, the Phone couldn't register into the network for this SIM.
I guess either it has the wrong frequencies or LTE is for inbuilt "SIM" (Sprint SIM?) only.
The latter. LTE is configured only for 1900 MHz which Sprint uses.
LTE is configured only for Sprint's frequencies, however, it supports the United States frequencies of PCS blocks A-G. The G Block is Sprint's current LTE channel, and they may deploy it later on Blocks A through F, depending on if they own the spectrum in a given market. The reason you see EU networks when the phone is in LTE Only Mode is most likely because the Phone still sees GSM signals, but will only connect to LTE ones from those GSM signals. Likewise, in the US, if you force LTE Only and then search for networks, AT&T and T-Mobile US will come up as the GSM carriers the Photon Q sees, rather than the LTE signals it sees.
Setting the Photon to LTE Only will not do anything for LTE in the EU. I suspect that if another carrier in the EU uses the 1900 MHz for LTE, the Photon Q will have no issues connecting to LTE in Europe. But until that time, be happy with HSPA.

IIRC The only place with 850mhz LTE available is the Chicago market and currently no phones at all support it. :crying:

As the title suggests, if a phone is listed as FDD-LTE 700MHz compatible, would that imply it'll work on T-Mobile's 700MHz Band 12? I am often confused with this band as it seems there's various other bands within the 700MHz frequency. So there's no positive way of knowing if it supports the band 12. For instance, I've been looking to find a cheap alternative phone (from China mainly) that might have support of LTE 700MHz so I can take advantage of T-Mobile's latest band, but I'm not sure on if it'd work. Couple examples of some phones are here:

That's just 3 out of a list of them found on Aliexpress. They all say FDD-LTE 700MHz. My gut is telling me the 700MHz it lists is for some frequency that China uses and wouldn't make a difference if used in the US. Just needed some helpful clarification. Thanks.

It won't. Most probably not, anyway.
When a frequency is listed as "700MHz", it's actually an approximation. For example, T-Mobile's band 12 is 700MHz Block A, which is 728–734MHz, whereas Verizon's band 13 is 700MHz Block C, which is 740–746MHz. This might vary from region to region too.
Most likely the phones you're looking at are compatible with 700MHz band 28, since this is commonly used in SE Asia and Oceana, along with the other bands they're listed to support. The Ascend Mate 2 you linked to however appears to support band 17 700MHz, which is an AT&T band, which would make sense as it also supports band 4, common in North America.
If you want a cheaper phone that has band 12 support, the newer ones from T-Mobile support it (or will, with a software update). Galaxy Avant, ZTE ZMax, the upcoming LG Leon LTE, for example.

I understand the phones from T-Mobile will support the new band but I was looking for maybe possible cheaper alternatives than brand name phones to take advantage of it. The Leon isn't out yet, and only vague specs are available. No specifics on what the processor is, but I'd guess SD400 or 410. I'd expect it to be around $200-250, but that's just a guess. If it's more than $250, I'd say it's not worth it considering the low-res FWVGA screen.
It also occurs to me that the new 2015 Moto E LTE has band 12 support. 64bit Snapdragon 410, 1gb RAM, 8gb storage, microSD slot, qHD screen, and a relatively large battery. Honestly, I'd rather have this than either of those cheapo Chinese ones (yes, I know Motorola is Chinese now...). For $150 from Amazon, it's a pretty damn good deal.
