Regulate vibration intensity? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically as the title states. Does anyone know a way to reduce the vibration intensity? Is this something I would need root to do? Even with a case I feel like if I'm sitting somewhere the whole room can hear the phone vibrate.

You'll need to root to do it. Both Franco Kernel Updater and Trickster Mod allow you to alter the vibration intensity.

So I'm not too familiar with using kernels. Are these just apps I can use with root or do I actually have to flash something?

No, all you need to do is root. You can change these settings on the stock kernels with the apps I mentioned.

You don't just need root, you need a custom recovery too. You flash the kernel in the custom recovery.

But I don't need that if I want to simply use Trickster Mod right?

You have to be rooted to use Trickster as it has to access /system level files.

Hahahaha.
1. You need root to alter the vibration on your device. Apps like Trickster Mod only work if you have root.
2. In order to root your device, you'll need to flash SuperUser. In order to flash SU (or a ROM/kernel,) you'll need to install a custom recovery image on your device. I recommend TWRP.
3. Once you've flashed SU, you can install Trickster Modand grant the app root access.

You could just fastboot boot recovery.img where recovery.img is twrp or cwm. Then flash super su and reboot. That what you'd still have the stock recovery and root.

That's true. But if you're gonna go through the trouble of flashing SU, might as well keep a custom recovery on your device in case you need to wipe.

You need to head to CWM recovery and then flash the rom.zip files...
Make sure you do a complete wipe before installing a new rom...

Dude, uninstall Rom Manager asap and never use it again, this has always been a terrible app and now its real terrible. Flash a custom recovery with Flashify (Play) or in fastboot (fastboot flash recovery namerecovery.img). Rom Manger is not a solution but a problem.

Rom Manager is unstable and buggy mate, if you have a working recovery then you`re lucky. Make sure to backup your current rom before you start flashing and backup your EFS folder and store it on the PC to be sure.

ART is still experimental atm and some apps are not optimized for it yet. That can cause bootloops in some cases. If that should happen restore the backup.

Dude, @gee2012 is just trying to help, and is right about RM. I used it back in the day on my Nexus One running CM before there were any alternatives. Over time, RM got wonkier and wonkier, ending up an app that is best avoided. I recommend that you take the advice of a recognized contributer, and don't continue to be loyal to a has-been app that could bork your system.

Sure it is. I was talking about Rom Manager, please don`t ever use it again. Just for your sake mate.
Everything said about Rom Manager is 100% correct; it's long been known to brick some phones, due to the recovery files it lists not being compatible with a lot of devices (and poorly defined).
Great advice, @PhilipTD and @gee2012.

Do you use SuperSU rather than Superuser? I think CWM recovery only look for Superuser, so if you have SuperSU installed it will think you aren't rooted.
Official CWM doesn't recognize the SuperSU binary. This is one of the reasons I don't recommend it, but rather PhilZ Touch CWM or TWRP.

what did you guys do to fix this?
New cwm? Or Download superuser from the store and uninstall SuperSU? Can you guys please provide more details as this is driving me nuts to have to click on yes or no to fix root every time I go into Recovery. Or Should I use Twrp?

Obviously this topic is a little more difficult for me to figure out on my own and your response even though you're trying to help me does not help. I don't know what it means to just stop using super user when I'm using supersu? Am I supposed to uninstall supersu and then install superuser? Are these the same apps? And if I do flash another recovery like team win, do I have to uninstall ClockworkMod first? I have tried to look online for an answer to this and this thread is the only one with this problem which is mind boggling the amount of Nexus 5 users compared to the five people here who are experiencing this problem. So if you can direct me to another link that has more information, that would be great otherwise I'm not quite sure how to fix this when you guys said you did it so easily.

You replied to be as I was editing my post lol.
It only happens when you're using CWM + SuperSU, because CWM doesn't look for SuperSU, only for Superuser.
Just flash TWRP, CWM is horrible anyways. Or you could just ignore it and just press no every time. Makes no difference.
And you don't "uninstall" CWM then install TWRP. You flash it over (overwrite) CWM.

Yes if you're imeediately going to flash a ROM, no need to root your current rom. Just unlock the bootloader, flash recovery then from recovery flash a rom
Official CWM itself is pretty antiquated. The choice is between Philz advanced CWM (See signature) or TWRP and it is users preference really.

Btw I agree to some of what you said in other posts about rooting with adn without PC. Its great to be able to root easily but this in my opinion would make everyone root and stuff while I think rooting and Roms should be for android enthusiasts and what else.

I already told you.
Ok, I've read your thread about how to upgrade to Lollipop the Nexus.
The fact is that my main pc have no working USB ports, so if I want to unlock the bootloader and stuff like this I have to use my second pc, and it is very slow (the last time to just fastboot a factory image it tooks me one hour of suffering).
I think that the method 2b is the one that is closest to my situation:
1. Unlock bootloader if necessary (This wipes data)
2. Accept OTA update
3. Fastboot flash a custom recovery image (of your choice)
4. Fastboot flash a custom boot.img (@Chainfire for basic root, @sykopompos for full permissive mode)
5. Flash from recovery, SuperSU

I don't want root, so:
2. Accept OTA update

If I have understood, the only thing that I have to do is use flashify to flash the OTA checker zip. file and than proceed with the OTA, right?
If there is another way to do this without use the PC, it will be great, but I don't know.
Is what I said right or I forgot something?
Thank you with your help anyway!

You haven't understood. I told you how to flash it. I did NOT say flash via flashify please try to read properly
There is only one way. By flash the OTA checker zip in custom recovery.

This is what you mean?
If yes, I can't flash with a custom recovery because I have the stock recovery (because I'm rooted with only Towelroot, so stock recovery and locked bootloader)

Then you can't use it! Wait for the OTA and install it.
I already have the OTA, but I think that there could be some issues, this is why I want to check if everything it's good, I don't want to brick/bootloop the device

You wont brick it. If you're not stock, it wont install.
Thank you, it works
