[Q] App Organizer - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All !
I was wondering if there is an application out there that allows me to create and sort applications on my phone into folders using a computer. An example for such a program is itunes, where i can create, manage and edit the application into folders. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hmm well I can think of one that lets to access your phone but not sure if it lets you organize like that remotely. It is called air Droid. Also there maybe be an app that uses a combination of adb and mirror to let you achieve that but I don't know of one off hand.

[Q] App to Transfer files android 2 android

I saw one called bump. but its not for plain files. I wanna send zips. roms. update.zip files and other things. quickly. Is bluetooth file transfer apps the only option? Is there not a way to use the wifi on phones,.... without needing to be in a network?
Thank you, and please forgive my ignorance.
There's another, similar to Bump, called Hoccer. I've not used either, but Hoccer's description on the market is: "Share your pictures, music, contacts, bookmarks, messages and arbitrary files with simple gestures like dragging or throw n' catch to near by recipients. No setup, no user accounts!"
It's free, and apparently works between Android, iPhone, and their web client.
Good stuff...
I was thinking WiFi Explorer Pro on one end and Estrongs on the other..

Those **Private** Pictures

Hello!
I have tried multiple app without success. Someone know a Good App to Encrypt those **Private** (cough...porn) pictures that sometimes we take with our excellent Infuse Camera???
well the simple solution is to use the built in file browser and move the pictures to any other folder, then put a file in there with the name .nomedia
Doing this will stop the media scanner from scanning the folder and showing up in the gallery or player apps. Of course this doesn't encrypt them, but it still lets you open them from your file browser of choice. The caveat is that if anyone else gets in there or plugs your phone in to a computer, there may be a chance at finding them.
Nice...
Photo vault works. It's a couple bucks but if you uninstall it or reset you're phone, you have to make them public first or you will lose them

HAHA i do that, except i put them in box.net
I use hidden media for all my private stuff. Just adds a nomedia file to any folders so they don't show up in the gallery
Post Infused by Infuse
I use an app called HideNSeek. It's a down low file app disguised as a flashlight.. lol works wonderfully...

Sent from an Infused ROM. Woot.
The app ZDbox lets you lock certain apps (along with various other features). Just put a lock code on your gallery and maybe even your camera and you're good to go.

I think your box.net answer is the only good one. As for those pics there is soooooo many ways to access files on your phone, file browser, root explorer, astro file, etc. etc... If someone wanted to find them they could. So if its important to encrypt them or make sure no one sees them the only answer is to "get them off your phone"!! I personally use dropbox for the not so good for the family to view pics and I don't have my password saved so I must enter it everytime I login, they are safe, secure, follow me to any device, and I'm happy. Not to sound at all like an iphone fanboy but apple wins in this category, I miss my photo vault app, touche little piece of fruit... lol

Agree!! The only piece I miss from IP4 is PhotoVault.
Rename the Folder
You can also rename the folder with the "confidential" pictures adding a . at the beginning... In my case my folder's called ".databases" (yeah the less interesting name the better)...
Whenever it's showtime just remove the . and the images/movies will be found by the Media Scanner on the phone...
When you add the . they'll dissappear... Since this complies with linux's way of hidding folders, if you mount the phone into a linux/osx pc you retain the hidden property ;-) Windows is an entirely different matter though

[Q] Creating a folder to an external location

Hey all,
I recently bought an asus transformer TF101. My goal is to use it as a media browser/controller as much as possible. I installed the app Mizuu to make a nice library of all my movies. The problem here is that mizuu currently supports only local folders and all my movies are located on my NAS (synology). However, people have succesfully made a shared folder locally that directs to the NAS or external folder. They use 3rd party apps like CIFS manager for this. This way the Mizuu app can index all your movies while they are at a different location. There is one downside: all those apps require you to root your device and I don't want this. Untill I noticed one app called AndSMB that does not require to root. So I tried the app and indeed it works. I'v set up a local folder (sdcard/localshare) connected to the nas folder (video/movies). I can see all my movies when using the app AndSMB. But the actual folder on my transformer is empty (ofcourse).
When I add this folder to the Mizuu app nothing happens because the folder stays empty. I could download or sync the folder but then I would have my movies locally and this is the opposite of what I want to achieve.
My question now is ofc if somebody can help me out. I thought that creating that SMB share is to actually make a symlink to the nas or am I not getting the idea?
Or is this goal simply not possible if you have your device not rooted?
Hopefully somebody can give me some pointers.
ps: sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.

Nobody? damn...
Or does anybody know a website/article where this could be explained?

Hey!
This is pretty old, but I'll answer this none the less. It's currently not possible to connect to network devices without root. It will be in the next version, though.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail or write here

App Developers Listen Up - Put your config and junk data in sdcard/apps!

Hi XDA!
I realise that I'm new here, so I may not get listened to, but I've been using smartphones for a while and this has always been an annoyance for me.
Currently, my internal storage (internal sd as some like to call it), is full of config, backup and other files placed there by app developers. I have a folder called AussieWeatherRadar, one called Cut the Rope, and one called rammanager, just to name a few.
As I have a bit of OCD, I like to keep my internal memory looking tidy, but how is this possible with so many folders, none of which conform to any particular standards?
I am suggesting the following: App developers should use the /apps/ folder, or a similar folder on the sd card to store their data. This way, the user's SD card does not look cluttered, but the data is all still there.
So please, app developers, here my plea! Please use the /app/ directory!
Do you have any comments or suggestions on this? Please comment!
Thanks,
John
TL;DR: App developers should use the sdcard/app/ folder for their junk/config/backup files so that sdcard/ looks tidy.
Second the sentiment.
Third.

Developers *HAVE* a default location to place their data if they need to store in external storage. Google dictates for it to be in /sdcard/Android/data
I have made an app that creates in terms an init.d script that auto removes these folders on boot, but that doesn't solve the problem.
Developers wanting to promote their apps create folders with, honestly nothing in them, to show off.
I have created a Google Docs document that I will share tomorrow with the apps I have installed on my phone that create an sdcard folder. Perhaps you could help improve that list.
One afternoon in last December I had emailed all those app developers about this. Do you know how many answers I received to about 10 emails? None..
We should all organize a massive email sendout to them again. After all its their own fault for not sticking to Android guidelines.

Well put mate!
Totally agree. They messed up my internal storage as well I wonder if I need to de-fragment it using my PC's windows defragment tools
Here is my list of apps that create a folder in the root of the sdcard without giving the option to reconfigure the folder location.

Please help improve this list further on so we can email the developers.

Map Network share to Local Folder?

I'm wondering if there's an application that will map a local android folder to a network share/drive.
The reason being is I want my other applications to be able to access files on my PC inside the native applications. I currently can browse my PC's shares via applications like ES File Explorer, but the shares you setup in file explorer apps are not available to other applications natively.
For example:
I would like to map the local android folder \\SDCARD\PCMusic
to \\PC\My Music
this would allow the native media players to be able to search the \\SDCARD\PCMusic folder and find everything contained on the PC over Wifi
(NOTE: I don't actually want to use this for music, I was just using an example)
I would love any suggestions you have!
Head on over to the Google Play Store and pick up a free app called Samba Filesharing. It will share the folders you set from your phone so your PC can see them in a similar way that your Xbox sees your media files on your PC. It's sweet.
It should be noted that doing this will run a service in the background of your phone to keep the files sharing alive.

I'm also trying to map a network share to a local folder on my mini android pc..
Surely there is a way to do this..??
Total commander and its accompanying module just do that.
@palmwangja: I don't believe it's true that TotalCommander will do it.
It can access network folders, but it does not map a network folder onto a local folder.
