[Q] Camera quality compared to Note 2 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Former Note 2 owners!
How would you compare the camera quality to the Note 2. Based on the specs Nexus 5 with OIS should be taking better pics.
What do you think? Do you like it or is it too close to judge? Thanks!

I had an s3. Not sure if that's the same camera as the note 2. I prefer the nexus

Just came from note 2. This one is way better

I'm going to say the N5 is better. Especially HDR+.

I hate the camera compared to my Galaxy Nexus. The GN took much faster photos, focusing quickly and they were always very crisp.
But that is probably because this phone did not launch with the new camera app (using the new API) that it was supposed to, thanks to last minute bugs.
Once we get this (according to google it will be released shortly), then I'm hoping the photos will be much improved. As it is right now, we are using outdated software.

[Q] take Photo while recording video?

Hi,
i don`t have a Nexus S but i do have a Galaxy S2 and since the Video camera doesn't work yet i have a question to those of you already on ICS
As demoed on the 4.0 Launch event the Galaxy Nexus is able to take high res pictures while recording video by tapping on the screen.
Is this feature working with your Nexus S, too?
i ask this because i wonder if i can expect this to work on my Galaxy S or if it is a Galaxy Nexus specific thing.
Also, has the shutter lag significantly reduced after the ICS update?
go to 46:10

Just tried doing it. Nope I can't take photos while recording... Hm ROM hackers hint hint

I sure don't have that feature on my Nexus S, nor have I seen reference to it here on the Nexus S forums. I suspect it's a Galaxy Nexus feature -- read an article on gottabemobile that suggested it might be.
As for shutter lag, I received my Nexus S with ICS on it, but I can say that the shutter lag is unnoticeable. I actually found it somewhat unsettling at first.

The small shutter lag is a promising thing. I hope the photo while video is for the lack of processing power on the nexus s so with dual core in sgs2 there is sill hope.
Or do you think it is a camera sensor things?

I think it might have something more to do with the continuous focus, as well as processing powah.

[Q] What phone to buy?

I want to save for a new phone, i was thinking of getting a Galaxy S ii or Galaxy Nexus. Which is better?
they are the same only nexus has a better screen. (CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG)
why dont you wait for s3 like i do?
i wiil go with nexus
i think "Galaxy Nexus" would be better. u will get a long talk time and better uploading speed here. downloading speed is also good here....
I honestly and personally would get the Galaxy Nexus. The SII seems a bit over rated to me. Also the Galaxy Nexus looks a lot better and looks like something that is fun to use
Galaxy sII

Better in terms of pixel density which results in slightly sharper images. However, the s2 produces better quality images and the contrast and viewing angles are much better

get the nexus .more updates in the future
Galaxy Nexus. Screen is really nice and it is smooth right out of the box.
Samsung also sells an extended battery which adds very minimal bulk. It makes the battery cover flush and adds a little bit of weight which feels nice.
Galaxy sII:O
i think galacy nexus is better, however if i were u i would buy an htc one s
So any way it depends what you use your phone for. If you want high resilousion pics then go with the s2 cause it has the 8mp camera compared to the 5mp camera for the nexus. So if you put the s2's photos on a big screen it will look better than the nexus's photos on the same big screen, but if you look at the nexus's photos on the phone screen it will look better than the s2's photos on the phone screen because the nexus has a higher resliousion screen.
So if you are gona put your photos onto a computer then go with the s2 but if you are gona just look at them on you phone then go with the nexus. The specs of the two phones are the same a think is 1.2 ghz dule core prossor and 202 gpu.
It should be fast enough for daily tasks and gameing alike.
PS. sorry about the spelling mistakes Iam a 13 year old boy

Galaxy Nexus for me. Only because it's an official Google phone, I love to have the updates before everyone else
i think galaxy nexus is better.. it has more modern technology than galaxy S2
i also think that galaxy nexus is better
Well i too would suggest the nexus.. but if you are still saving.. and saving big.. wait for the s3 !!

I think Nexus is better than S2 for performance. But You can try to another Product like HTC or Sony.
My vote is on the Nexus
However if you have that kind of cash why not consider something newer in the market?
I would definately wait for the s3! the official release is this thursday, so it's sooooo close!
there is no official picture but there are some leaked pictures based photos, check out the site of sammobile . com, there are some pics! (I can't post links..)
it supports better specs than s2 or nexus.
If you don't like this and can't wait for 2 days, I would say galaxy s2 because it has such an overwhelming development section with soo many ROMs etcetera.
GL
You should wait just a couple of days..
For sure the one currently with the most up to date software without having to root it and install one of the custom ROMs here would be the Galaxy Nexus. Although it won't be the best device in a couple of days. I suggest you to wait just at least a couple of day before choosing if your one top notch up to date kind of guy since the Galaxy SIII should be announced on May 3rd by Samsung. Also, the HTC One series are getting through many carriers these day until the end of may. The One X is definitively a much better device currently even if it's not available everywhere. Anyhow, if you want it at the end of the day, I would go with the Galaxy Nexus, if you can wait just a couple of days, I would be curious to compare it with the incoming One X or the SIII!
If your into custom rooms, definitely go for the s2 as there is more going on in the development section

[Q] Nexus or S2 - which is smoother

As this is my first post on this forum I would like to say kindly HELLO to EVERYONE.
I have a big problem in choosing my next smartphone. Currently I'm using Samsung Galaxy S+ (i9001). I tested almost every rom on it, and I'm not satisfied with it's speed...I mean it's laggy and apps open too much time.
So I want to buy either Nexus or S2 but I can't really choose. Like I said the most important thing for me is the smoothness and quick opening aps (calls, sms and so on). I don't play games so I won't benefit from better GPU in S2. I have read many comparisons and ones say that Nexus is smoother than S2 because it's pure AOSP, and other say that slower CPU+GPU in Nexus with HD screen makes it a slower device. Will be S2 really smoother than Nexus when I will put an AOSP rom in it ?
It would be great if someone had both devices and compared them. Comparisons on YT tell me nothing cause those people are comparing those devices on too much differing roms like one on ICS and other on JB.
I am aware of other pros and cons of those two devices. What I am asking for is that which one does have smoother feel and faster opening aps. Well eventually the battery life is what interests me too, cause I have read that Nexus has a weak one.
Sorry for my bad english.
S2 has amazing support of community and it can be very smooth. Actually its smoother then stock S3 with good ROM.
It is also thin and light as feather. I really enjoy in its lightness.
Nexus is one of the phones I would only root, and don't touch anything.
They are actually quite different. Sweet misery. Anyway you can't make a mistake with either one.

Galaxy Nexus is smoother, because it is pure AOSP, like people said. Development is good for both devices, but Nexus has better development mainly because its a Nexus device. You also get official updates faster and will probably get more updates than SII. I would pick Nexus over SII any day. The HD screen doesnt make that much of a difference. Besides, I'd rather have an HD screen with > 300 PPI than a screen with only 217 PPI. Both devices are really good, but that resolution on the SII really irks me.
PS. I agree with the person above. I would probably root it but leave it at that. Pure stock on Nexus really is amazing.

I have to go with Nexus too. I love pure stock. TouchWiz is ok... but when it comes down to it you have to deal with some Samsung crap that you don't want.
Your S+ is laggy because it runs on a Snapdragon CPU instead of Exynos. There's nothing "Plus" about it.
As someone who's owned both the S2 and Galaxy Nexus. I'm assuming by S2 you mean an Exynos-based one like the i9100:
Development (ROMs) - Both. Yes, the Galaxy Nexus is a Nexus device, which means a lot of development. But the S2 i9100 also has a TON of support and development.
Speed - Galaxy S2, for both CPU and GPU, by far.
Camera - Galaxy S2, by FAR. It has an amazing camera. The Galaxy Nexus has a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE camera, and any GN owner will admit it.
Screen - Galaxy Nexus, if you don't mind pentile. It's 720p vs 800 x 480 in the S2. The S2 isn't pentile though. Honestly, I'd give it to the Galaxy Nexus regardless.
Storage - Galaxy S2; 16/32GB storage + Memory card slot. Galaxy Nexus (GSM) is 16GB, which is really like 12GB usable. No memory card slot.
Notification Light - Galaxy Nexus has an RGB notification light. Galaxy S2 doesn't have a light.
Personally, I'd go with the S2 because I game a lot and need room for my music and files. I only have like 250 songs on my card, but I also use my phone as a camera, so storage and camera quality are very important for me. It's much much much faster for anything beyond day-to-day tasks. The screen resolution isn't bad at all considering the screen is 4.3 inches. I had the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, which was 32GB, so it had a redeeming factor, but I felt like it was hard to downgrade performance coming from the Galaxy S2. The Galaxy Nexus is still a great phone that's still very viable (and still a Nexus, so you get continued support from Google), but between these two phones specifically, I'd go for the S2.
Yeah deff agree with the sucky camera. And the lack of a micro SD slot is ridiculous. But I rarely use either. Honestly it depends on the type of user you are.

Yeah I agree on the last bit. That's the most important thing. If you're the occasional phone photographer and you're not playing the latest games, you can survive on the Nexus (btw GTA 3 and Shadowgun run fine on the Nexus).

Seeking Advice: Upgrade from s3 to Nexus 4?

Hi I am new to forums all together but I love reading here and have done some for quite a few years now. Finally decided to join. Hopefully I wont be seen as a nuisance. So I wanted to ask I have an s3 and am thinking of plunking down the cash for a nexus 4. Never actually held one yet.
Nexus 4
Pros for me: always wanted one (wanted note 2 but att past return)
Love googles stock ROMs (running aokp on s3)
Truer whites and higher pixel density (am i gonna notice, i think so)
Love the build. Gorgeous! Especially back
On screen buttons
Faster processor
More one hand friendly (i have pretty big hands though so not much a pro)
No logos
Pros s3: like smart features (one regret of using 4.2 aokp jellybean)
Little more durable
Better front facing and rear
Kind a like amoled except blueish whites
Better speaker
More dev support
Deeper blacks
Battery
Cons: nexus: no lte ( doesn't bother me)
Glass back
Camera
Battery ( hoping mophie make pack for it)
Non removable ( don't intend it to last that long)
No SD ( not much issue with me. Have good signal everywhere) (at&t) mostly use songza and Pandora anyway
Cons s3: I think performance. But maybe i wouldn't notice it
Slower updates (premium does look nice)
Hardware buttons
Pen tile display (maybe again wouldn't notice)
Bluish whites
GPU (maybe more than enough, unsure)
Build quality (opinion) plastic feels not premium for what i payed
Volume rocker build
So that's what i gathered. Can anyone who has both help me out. Real experience with both is appreciated. I can see how it is and how it isn't worth it. ( i really want to see if s4 is gonna be worth the wait.) PS i work for authorized at&t dealer location. Hope posted this to correct place also. First post ever. So hope u guys will give me a little slack ( not a lot (in not special here, but a little thanks. Hope others find this useful as well. As i researched the heck out of this!

Not sure about more dev support on the S3, remember the Nexus 4 will be the first phone with a KLP OTA and ROMs, and it will take a little while to port to the SS.
Honestly I don't see the S3 to the Nexus 4 as an "upgrade" you don't really notice the krait for S4 Pro upgrade because the dual-core krait with 2gb RAM is so fast already, I don't see the quad core really helping that much, e.g. the S3 does not lag, it's like someone who uses Word and IE upgrading from an Ivy Bridge i5 to an i7...
The other con I can think of upgrading is the HDMI out is really weird for the Nexus 4, you can't just use a $8 MHL adapter... I watch movies all the time from my Galaxy Nexus to my HDTV so it would be an issue for me.
The on-screen buttons I agree with, I love being able to mod my soft keys and stuff, but you can do all of that with the S3 too with AOKP and custom ROMs, just don't even use the hard-buttons if you don' want.
All in all I prefer the Nexus 4 for the customizations, IPS display, and KLP updating, and probably a better working Ubuntu Mobile port faster.
Hope that helps, ultimately you could probably do a straight trade for the phone on a reputable online trading site or even craigslist or something, so why not try it out?
You can fix the blue whites on your amoled screen with a modified kernel.

very true, I had completely forgotten about any discoloration on my amoled Galaxy Nexus because I've had custom kernels with color fixes the whole time I've owned the phone.
I don't consider it as an upgrade either.
I have SGS3 and my sister has N4. For day-to-day usage, I really don't notice difference in performance.
I just can't live without wifi tethering over LTE on my SGS3.
in my opinion a change from s3 to nexus 4 is a downgrade

Video Comparison of the Note 3 with the LG G2

Hi Guys,
I made a video comparing the Galaxy Note 3 with LG's current flagship the G2.
Hope its of use to anyone trying to decide between these 2....
Ash
Thanks for the comparison
This video comparison was very useful for me- specially the ending bits- the camera quality. Interestingly, GSMArena crowned Note 3 putting G2 in 3rd position in Low Light>Flash On condition thanks to Note 3's powerful Flash. Your video reflected that too. It was seen Note 3 has done better job than G2 in that condition.
And I also agree that G2 being slightly snappier than Note 3.
Always love watching your videos. thanks.
Great job as always Ash! Note 3 for me.

I really was about to buy the g2 since I heard the nexus 5 would be based on it. But really I owned a nexus 4 and there was one major thing I hated about it,
The onscreen buttons. They take up way to much screen for apps and I just really like having a permanent home button that I can feel.
