After update to 4.0.4 my caller id reads something like this "call from 17 billion, 65 million, 551 thousand, 212. Rather than the friendlier "call fro 706-555-1212". Anyone have a clue why and how to revert it back?

I have all my contacts showing their country code with the plus sign for their country code such as +44, +61, etc
When I am in Thailand and I want to call someone in Australia - I need to go look up his number in the contacts and the copy&paste (or memorize) into the dialer with the proper international dialing prefix 001, 009 or 007
It is a pain the arse, would there be a way where I could tell my phone to just parse the plus sign "+" as 001, 011 or 007? Thing is when I'm in Thailand the prefix is most of the time 009 but it is not the same when I am in Canada or Australia... so I can't put it in my contact card. (or perhaps I could make several entry for them for each prefix).
Is there an automated solution or any tips someone would like to share?
Hmm, the + is simply a shortcode for 00, which is the international calling prefix, so my number in the UK starts with 07966... and the international format is +447966...
I can call + numbers in my phone from, and to Germany, Ireland, France, and Spain with no problems.
Is Thailand not using the standard 00+Country Code+STD (minus leading 0)+Local Number format then?
when I am in Thailand (using DTAC), they use the + format just fine. When I want to call my friends in the USA I call +1-808-xxx-xxxx, and when I call people in Thailand I use +66x-xxx-xxxx.
The + works in Thailand (parsed as 001 not 00), but CAT (Communication Authorithy of Thailand) offers other prefix such as 009 that routes the call through VOIP which is significantly cheaper.
00 doesn't work in Thailand. It is 001. But the carrier interprets the + as 001
For example, if I want to call the US this will not work 00 1 206-555-1212. I need to be doing 001 1 206-555-1212 or alternatively +1 206 555-1212.
I just wish there would be a dialer that would allow me to tell him to change the + to whichever prefix depending on which Country I am at the time.
Ok so we got to the bottom of it. + is in fact the same as 00 but in Thailand thats normal calls, and you want voip routed calls.
Its added functionality on their network I'm afraid, the GSM standard will only use + as 00, and they interpret that as 001 for calls routed over the traditional network.
I think the only way to do it and keep your sanity would be to create a new number for each contact you would want to call using the 009 prefix, specifically to call from Thailand, and leave all the others with the +.
+ = International Exit Code.
This mean that in many places "00" is not the exit for international calls.
In US it is "011", Thailand "001", Russia "09" ect. It is shortcut and you do not have to memorize all codes. Of course + is normal exit not voip, to use voip you have to know local specific, in this case 009

THis is correct. Different network operators - both fixed and mobile - will have different access codes for international and national access.
Using + will usually take you through to your default phone operator's most expensive IDD plan (and hence other companies have other prefixes which can also be used for IDD calls).
The O2 dial wizard (search for it on the forum, or download it from the http://www.seeo2.com/ site) has a feature which allows replacing the international prefix + with a dial code of your choice. It is possible to set up multiple codes (for different networks, calling cards etc.) through its configuration options. Once installed, from within the phone application, choose Tools -> O2 Dial Wizard. When a number is dialled, or retrieved from the phone list using the search utility that comes with the progam, or, when a number is manually entered, click the little icon of a phone handset with a magic wand. This will replace the + with the predefined prefix of your choice.

Sorry for bringing up this 2 year old topic, but since it wasn't answered I like to check if there is any news.
My provider fixes + to 001 - but I like to change + to 1686 (or whatever). How can I do that?
Is there any way or software that can designate ringtones based off area code and prefix only. The military base I work at has its own prefix. I just don't want to have to enter all 1000 suffixes (0000-9999)
I'm looking for a something that allows you to set a single ringtone based off the area code and prifix only while leaving the suffix numbers blank (like using a wildcard). Something like the following.
(555) 555-XXXX
(555) 555-****
(555) 555-????
That way any number that calls from the base will have a set ringtone so I know its work related before I even get the phone.

I too am wondering about this. Except I want it based only off of the area code. Is there program out there that lets you set general ring tones based on phone numbers using wildcards? I know this hasn't had a response in some time now.... Anyway else in need of this same thing or does anyone know how to do this. I personally have the HTC Touch Pro if that's helpful.
Thanks!
bump!
I've been looking for something like this too, only for text message sounds not rings. I get facebook updates via text message and I'd like to be able to tell the difference without looking at my phone. Anyone?

Off topic, I know, but it lies in my blood to send regards to any brother or sister in the military. Especially our allies.
I have Afghanistan coming up in two months.
Stay cool man
Greetings.
I've just managed (finaly!!!) to flash my old p3600 Trinity and after various
attempts (Mary 33 and 37; then FinixndOver and others i've decided to
adopt «nAr.icke.WM6.5.MANILA.21895.WWE», which i averaged attractive
& userfriendly enough for an almost newbe as i am.
But suddenly i was flabberghasted by a stupid problem: my local GMT (Lisbon)
+351 does not exists in a long database that comprises such worldwide citties
as Tonga and Aardvark for instance...
My regional GMT is '0', as London and Dublin BUT the country prefix is (+351)
and not (900) as it appears in the phonepad when i try to mark a phone # &
execute a phone call. This prevents receiving and sending either phone os sms
services.
Could any kind soul enlight me, please, as per what to do?
As long as it's simple enough for a near twit to understand and perform...
Thanking for any adequate help.
N'Rique
Too many words -- mea culpa.
Rephrasing then: how can one edit the prefix digits of one missing country in the GMT list of HTC GMT locations.
My example: i need that GMT 0 with country prefix +351 (Lisbon, Portugal),
be available to selected. Presently i had to opt for GMT 0 London, Dublin
but the prefetched prefix (which is not 351, at all -- but very different)
suposedly prevents placing -- both sending and receiving -- local phone calls and sms.
I'll very much appreciate some help on this issue.
Afterall i average that it is one of the manifold vocations of this site.
Thanks for your possible attention.

NO ONE?
ANYBODY OUT THERE?
How to convince my htc to act as a phone?
how can i convince my recently flashed htc p3600 (wm 6.1 Ausdim 4.x) to work
as a phone?
GMT LOCALS database forgot all about the existence of one of the oldest capitals in the world: Lisbon, Portugal. But it includes AARDVARK, TONGA and
SESHKWASHEN - Worldwide known citties, as everyone knows!!.
Result: GMT 0 - and prefix +351 are absent in the available time zone items to
select and probably on account of that, suddenly my device behaves faster and
stable BUT does not make or receive phone calls and/or sms!!!
Whatever i do (communicatons mngr, chnging SIM cards aso) phone status is
allways NOT CONNECTED.
PLease, i would much appreciate some kind and adequate help on this issue.
Regards,
N'Rique
Is anyone listening?
Is n't there one single EXPERT that has some knowledge to share and help me out of this catch22 scene?
Am i incurring in some major fault that ostracizes me?
Please enlight me here.
PLEASE.
. .PLEASE!!!
. .PLEASE???!
Shouting is unpolite but nobody seems to pay any attention...
I'm astonished...
GOOD GRIEF!
This is one of the phone settings in my DS.
Can anyone explain exactly what it means ?
I know the basics of roamiing but this one is beyond me.
A google search on that phrase reveals nothing ;-(
- Thanks !
It adds the international dial code to numbers in your contacts list when you're roaming .
Eg , if your phone is set up in Ireland , it adds +353 to the beginning of any dialed numbers when roaming .
It adds +44 to UK based phones when roaming.
It can be useful if you don't have your numbers saved with the internatiomal dial code .
Click on "home dialing" to see more options.
Hope this helps.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
That's very useful to know for when I go on holiday.
Actually, I have set OUTLOOK to include +44 on all my numbers as "UK", so I probably won;t need to use the function - But at least I now now ;-)

Hi,
So I've recently got to enjoy the fruits of CM's latest stable release for my S4. However, there is one issue with the dialer that is really getting on my nerves. I humlbly accept any help in resolving this issue.
App Version: com.android.dialer 4.4.4-b2ebc9246e
When I enter phone numbers manually. The numbers are displayed with a grouping that isn't usually used in Sweden. I have tried changing the phones locale to everything imaginable, without any luck. Se below for an example:
Current grouping: "012 345 67 89"
Preffered grouping: "0123 456 789". OR "0123 45 67 89".
Even an option to disable the automatic insertions of spaces would be beneficial. e.g. "0123456789"
With stock, the number grouping would be correct if I used English UK. However, this new dialer doesn't seem to honor locale settings.
Last but not least: A humble answer to the sure to come question "why does it matter?".
I'm used to see numbers grouped in a certain way. Americans may be used to the "current" way of doing it. But alot of people aren't. And I'm really hoping that we can come to an understanding that options are ALWAYS good.
Thank you in advance!
Update:
So I've just determined that it's related to the automatic area code detector. e.g the number "0476- 22 22 22" shows correctly according to my wishes,. However, standard celnumbers are displayed as "070-322 22 22". With this in mind, I would very much like to disable this "feature"
