[Q] Is it safe for me to root? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have the verizon version, and i wanna root, but its a hand-me-down s3 so i only have a lg usb. Is it safe for me to root without trouble? I've heard some people have had problems...

Samnsungs can be rooted by using the framaroot apk that can be found here on xda. No pc required. It's what I used to root my galaxy. It creates the Su binary and installs supersu automatically. Just install and run the exploit and your rooted.

Framaroot does not work for this phone model, you have to use casual or flash a stock rooted image.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

You should be fine to root, a Samsung cable is preferred but any good quality USB cable should do the job.

You can use any cable as long as it is supported. I unrooted my phone not too long ago and then rerooted with my old LG charging cable (because my Samsung one charged too slowly).

It works on non-Samsung cables. I used the one from my car charger when I had to redo the whole process while on the road a couple of months back.

Kinda feel like a usb cable is a usb cable. I usually use a short cable when I am on my laptop, no problems!!

Root without a PC?

The title says it all, I will not have access to a computer for a few days and im wondering if there is a method to get root without using a PC.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure there isn't. Every method(I think there's three different ones) requires either a Windows PC, Linux or Mac.
There is no way to root without a Pc but once you get root you can unlock the bootloader wuth Ez-Unlock from play store. Just get a friends computer and use it to root. I would recommend Linux or Mac and use Adam Outlers Casual tool. Its really easy and simple.
As i figured well guess no root for me for a bit. Hope a PC less root method comes out eventualy.

I doubt a PC-less root will come within a few days. But like you said in your op, in a few days you'll have access to a PC again.

All i know is that you could odin back to a rootable build, and then reroot and install the rooted version of the latest from here
If anybody knows an easier way feel free to share
Like others below me said, use this method here
Yeah just re root. You don't have to Odin back. The new build can still be rooted just like the other ones.

It works. It's always been a little buggy. Keep trying. I did have to install superuser from the play store manually afterwards though. Maybe you got the SU binary pushed and just need to do that still?

So keep running the debugfs root from casual. It works. Try adb kill-server after the first reboot and after clicking "OK" in casual. It worked for me.

OP: Were you able to get root back?
I am running stock, rooted. I was able to retain root following the upgrade by utilizing Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.

OTA will always break root but eventually it will not only break root but also break unlock exploits regardless of any app. Ask the EVO 4G LTE guys who are now stuck with locked bootloader.

[Q] Unroot S3 without computer

Hi all. First off I'd like to apologise if this is in the incorrect place (as a seasoned user of forums like this I understand how irritating it can be) but I've hunted about and this is the most relevant board I can find.
The USB port on my GT-I9300 is broken - I can't charge and can't connect to my PC - so it's looking like I have to send it off to Samsung to get it fixed/replaced however I have rooted my phone. Is there a way I can unroot it without having to connect to a computer?
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm in a bit of a panic.
You should be able to pull a clean ROM onto it then reboot in recovery and do a factory reset then install the clean, stock ROM. I don't know if they will even care about that but a good just in case

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a luddite so I'm not entirely sure how I would go about doing the above?
There should be an option to unroot in the su app. Idk which su app you are using but super su has a full unroot option.

Thanks! I never noticed that option before. I'll give it a go.
I've seen some talk of needing Triangle Away & Mobile Odin to unroot my phone properly? Is that correct or am I okay just using the option on SuperSU since I've never actually installed a custom rom, I just unrooted the phone?
This is the Verizon forum. Not sure if the advice applies to the international version.

Famaroot issues

Hi I'm new here so not sure if I'm in the correct area but I have a verizon galaxy s3 sch-i535. I installed the latest famaroot and when I try to root using Aragorn I get error #7 and Gandalf gives me error #5, I don't see any other selection to root from, help is appreciated!!!!!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
There's no software in this S3 forum with those word choices. Use Casual by Beanstown106 in the development section if you want to root.

Ok, ill have to wait till I get my black friday laptop to root then, the famaroot was a actual apk app that did the root

Good luck. This is the first I've ever heard of Lord of the Rings and root ever mentioned in the same sentence. Just...sounds wrong.

**** everything else, **** every other tool, method. **** farmaroot, **** oneclickroot, ****.... I've tried to root 3 phones till now using them in vain until I finally arrived to kingo app [kingoapp(dot)com]. You have to do like this to successfully root your phone:
Enable usb debugging by settings→developer options→usb debugging (set it to on)
Run kingo app and then connect the phone to your pc via a usb cable. If drivers for your phone have not been installed or found in your phone...kinggo app will find and download it for you(it really does and the drivers are accurate). Then click "root" and wait until it says "rooted successfully" it wont keep you waiting for long, unlike other tools.
I've never heard of that, how well does it work? Can you also unlock the bootloader and install roms?
The app the OP is referring to is called Framaroot (not farmaroot). The root methods the app uses is based on LOTR characters. Other versions of the GS3 are supported just not the VZW varient. Look at the compatible devices list in the OP of it thread. Link below

Michley 900 root?

My sister bought a michley 900 used from BrandsMart not too long ago and she tried to install Constant Guard from comcast and it won't allow saying it's rooted. I've not rooted it nor has my nephew and they aren't versed enough.
I've found no root method online. There isn't a super user app installed and I've run a root checker and a have fx file explorer with root add on installed and can edit at the root level.
Could it be that this tablet isn't locked down? Any ideas?
So no one has any info? Wrong thread? A slight push I the right direction?

Try framaroot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
If that doesn't work then try the tool in my signature.
It comes with a root command.
most of the time with these generic tablets they come prerooted, i dont think you can remove it (unless you know what your doing) but if you want to take ahold of it download superSU or Superuser from the martket.
It's rooted already. I'm trying to figure out how.

like i said just install superSU or Superuser from the play store.
Our posts came in seconds apart. I have since installed SuperSU. She was trying to install some security suite apps available through her Internet provider and it wouldn't let her due to it being rooted.

like i said i dont think theres a way to unbrick it on generic tablets, i think you can try to unroot via superSU or Superuser, one of them has the option i think and you might be able to find a apk for security suite that gets rid of the root checker or whatever its doing.
