Acer Iconia A700 non rooted unable to access recovery or reset - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

Hi I've been looking around the threads and had no luck.
My niece has put a pass code on her A700 and forgotten it, I've been trying to restore it for her but the darn thing won't go into recovery mode.
I found a thread detailing some button presses for a similar model but it didn't help. I'd appreciate any help at all. I've explained she'll lose everything on the tablet, hopefully this will learn her about passwords and remembering them lol.

To get to Recovery on JB, try this;
Tab Off
Hold Vol-
Press and Hold PWR
At 1st vibration release PWR
At 2nd vibration, quickly slide your finger to Vol+ and hold
When you see the text in upper left corner, release.
Should have a recovery menu with JB (limited functions)
If successful, post back
Oh, and here's a link, but I think it was for ICS. Some of them still work on JB

Nexus S boots into recovery by default.

I noticed that I couldn't control the volume when in Gingerbread, I restarted the Nexus S. The Nexus S is now booting into the recovery menu by default, I can't boot into the OS.
The volume in the recovery menu works as expected (though slightly delayed), the real problem is that the power button has the same function as the volume up.
My phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked, this was done several months ago though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Sounds like you lost your OS, you need to re-install the rom through recovery. Just Wipe your data and cache, mount usb, transfer the rom to your sd, and install. EZ PZ

Thanks for the reply, I was able to boot into the OS using the fastboot command "fastboot reboot". I then flashed a previous backup I made three months ago, sadly this did nothing to alleviate my problem. I am convinced this is a hardware failure of some sort.
I have now flashed an unrooted stock rom and locked the bootloader as I intend to invoke warrenty and send it over to Samsung.
Naturally, this had to happen right when Ice Cream Sandwich launches on the Nexus S.
Yes my friend this happened to my buddy as I was lucky enough to get fastboot to recognize the pc after hundreds of tries so I could lock the bootloaders back up
Let me guess does your phone turn on by itself when you plug it in to charge?

Woah, come to think of it my phone did turn on by itself! And it took me at least an hour for fastboot to recognize my phone. I assume your friend sent it in under warrenty? How long did it take until he got a replacement?

That is what I thought at first, but the power button will not execute like it should.
He has some sort of best buy warranty and I just gave it back to him today with locked bootloaders
BEST DAMN PHONE BECAUSE WE HAVE THE BEST DAMN DEVELOPERS!
If your without warranty what I would do is install cyanogen mod and use the volume wake option or if you want to use ICS then get goto lock screen app from the market and use that to wake the device with the volume wake option
I say this because his power button went out completely and there was a major problem with his USB connection
Its like the power button is always being held in. This problem started for him before flashing any custom rom,it made it really hard to root and because mounting storage and fastboot drivers sucked but hang in there and keep this post alive as I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and see if something is loose or not making good connection
Were you hard on it? he is as we work in a sugar factory

I should still have warranty with Samsung as I bought my phone in May. I don't think I was too rough with my phone, that said it's in my pocket most if the time. The power button works fine, the volume up is another story. Thanks for helping.

I called Samsung, they told me I could take it into my local Rogers store to get it repaired. When showing the Rogers employee what was wrong my phone just magically started working again, it seemed to good to be true. And as it turned out it was, as my phone cannot send or receive calls. Hopefully I won't be without a Smartphone for too long.
Thanks for all the replies everyone.

If you pull out the battery and put it back did the phone automatically turn on by itself then keep rebooting?
Did you try 3 combo buttons to enter recovery vol up+dn and power then release power button but keep holding vol up+dn to enter recovery mod.
If the phone still keep bootlooping then it something wrong with Power button and may you need to replace that.

so its not bricked
doesn't sound bricked but it could be tricky to fix. first you have to isolate any hardware problem with the volume or power buttons. maybe pull it apart and clean it. if the usb port is intact it should be salvageable.
one question.... would you sell it? i can always use a backup.
Sounds like power button...but like.dani said...you are not yet in the clear :/
But here's what worked for others:
Rapidly pressing/mashing power button
Taken it apart and blowing the power button area with air compressor
Paying $30 and sending it into some company to fix it

Alright well I don't know if this issue ever got resolved, we did speak but only once in PM but no follow up.
So I was going to make a video of the steps I took the first time I experienced this, where the install failed, phone would reboot back into recovering then the Android guy would fall over and it would reboot again back into recovery and repeating the process infinitely.
So the video I was gonna make explained some pretty indepth steps I took...and I have to admit I haven't wanted to make the vid because I didn't want to go thru the process again especially since I've been working on themes and wanted my phone up and running.
So. Here is something for you to try if you ever run into this problem
( I just had it happen again, and discovered this right before setting up the camera to do the before avoided video, lol )
Anyway it worked for me.
When it starts to recovery bootloop, 3 finger hold (power, vol up, vol down) keep holding while Samsung appears.
Continue to hold, Samsung will disappear, then when it reappears a second time release the buttons and you should enter recovery without a bootloop.
Then flash a different rom than the one that obviously gave you a bad flash.
Hope that helps some of you

HOX Stuck at boot "One" screen, Haven't Flashed Lately

I was on the phone earlier for a fair bit, when I hung up I noticed the battery at 4%. Got home little bit later and when I checked my phone again it was off, I hit the power button so it began to power on, and I them plugged it into AC charger right away while booting up. A couple of minutes later and I noticed it was still on the "One" boot screen (on a sense ROM at the moment, ViperXL 2.1.1). Tried holding power to reboot and it did the same thing.
Figured I leave it plugged in for a little bit, maybe battery was just really low. After about 30 minutes or so it was plugged in, still on the same screen (couldn't power it off it would just reboot). Tried to reboot again, and got stuck on the same screen. This time however I noticed the phone was quite hot, though it seems to be cooling down slightly since I've unplugged it, but not 100% sure.
What could be the issue/any ideas? I haven't flashed anything in over a week, last being ViperXL 2.1.1 and BeastMode Kernel 3.0. First time dealing with potential boot issues as I am always very careful when flashing. Any help is appreciated!
Try reading threads before you post. You may have read a thread that said don't post questions in General. There is a Q&A forum for this.
Anyways, try erasing the caches and rebooting.

Yeah I was thinking this might not be the right place but wasn't totally sure, I apologize.
I was having trouble getting it to boot into the bootloader as well, forgot to mention that originally, holding volume down and power wasn't working. However after not sure how many attempts I did get it somehow. Perhaps I was holding the buttons down incorrectly, I think I let go of power early the time it worked? Not sure. After a straight system reboot from recovery did not work, I tried wiping cache's as you said and it booted fine! Much thanks.
Again apologies from rushing to make a thread, just got kind of frustrated with not being able to boot into even the bootloader or just power it down for awhile, for seemingly no reason. Someone can delete this thread if they'd like. Thank you though!
maybe your phone doesnt like the overclock. not all phones can handle high overclocks and some cant work with ANY overclock. i would try letting the phone charge and flashing the stock boot.img

Almost always a matter of pilot error (as long as you have a charge light coming on, it should go to hboot no problem). Correct way is to hold vol down rocker, don't let it go, then press the power button for 3 seconds or so. Release the power button (but keep holding vol down). Don't let go of vol down until the hboot screen comes up.
If the screen is on, you can do the same as above, with the only change being: holding the power button down for 5 seconds or so until the capacitive buttons flash, then release the power button.

Sorry to resurrect a slightly old thread, but was there any solution to this? My phone just died last night and won't start back up. It just stays stuck on the loading screen. I went into recovery and deleted the caches just in case, but it hasn't fixed anything. I have a nandroid backup from a weeks ago that I can just if I have to, but I'd prefer not to since I'd lose the app data.
Any ideas?

[Q] TF201 - Stuck at ASUS boot screen

Hello Everyone,
I'm sorry for creating another thread related to bricked TF201 but it seems like almost every thread I've read was a little bit different and many of them people were able to get into fastboot or they had one of the 4 different "bricks" (mine is not one of them)
A little back-story: I've had my Transformer Prime for a little over a year now and I never had any issues with it and I never tried rooting/unlocking it. Last night, I decided to do it so I unlocked the bootloader using ASUS official way and then rooted it successfully. Rebooted a few times to make sure all is well and then for some readon I download this app called "Transformer reboot to Recovery" (which is the cause of this whole thing) which I used to reboot and that was the last time I was able to use the tablet =/
Now, the only thing that happens when I boot it up or press Volume down + power button is I get to the ASUS boot screen and it just hangs there. In the upper right corer it says "The Device is UnLocked" - in the middle "ASUS Inspiring Innovation - Persistent Perfection" and "POWERED BY NVIDIA TEGRA" on the bottom. When I try to turn it off it's not working (I have to wait for battery to die to turn it off) and when I hold Volume Up + Power it seems like the screen turns off (but from what I read the tablet is still on).
I tried plugging it into my PC but it is not recognizing it, and I tried everything to get it into CWM or fastboot but nothing seems to be working. I am pretty sure that I am screwed and this is probably one of the worst kinds of bricks (it's not even mentioned in the sticky thread on how to unbrick Transformer Prime) and unfortunately I am beginning to accept this sad faith hah.
If anyone experienced the same scenario and was able to resolve it or wants to share their solution to similar problem I would really appreciate it. It's too bad that this happened but I guess I knew the risks and am the only one to blame, so probably the only remaining thing I can do is sell my keyboard dock and put the tablet somewhere on the wall and use it as a mirror or something lol.
Once again, sorry for adding another one of these thread, and thanks for any kind of advice in advance.

[Q] Device in bootlloop + Can't access bootloader!!! HELPPPP

My Nexus 5 is stuck on the splash screen. I have multirom installed so when i boot after the splash screen the multirom menu comes up. I select to boot the ROM but it never does. The splash screen shows up again and then the screen goes blank. When this happened I was doing nothing but just casual chatting on Whatsapp. I have been stuck many times and most of the times when multirom was installed. I always solved this by flashing factory image by booting into bootloader. But i can't even get to hold it in the bootloader. It just goes blank like the instance above. Please help!!!!!

I wish I could. I have written in the OP that the device doesn't stay at the bootloader. If there is any other way please guide me.
Press and hold the power button for 20, which should turn the device off.
then once its off, press and hold the power + vol up + vol down.
if you get there, flash the factory images using fastboot.

I always thought that pressing both vol keys and power gets into secondary bootloader so I always used that, so in shot yes I was talking about the secondary bootloader in the OP. Just to be clear primary bootloader is by holding power and vol - key and plug into PC right? Even this didn't work for me. I just get a second to either go press vol up or down when the bootloader shows up. So either it shuts down or it restarts into the bootloader.

Does it stays in download mode?
Press and hold power key for 15-20 secs to turn off your phone.
Press and hold volume_up key then connect the phone to the pc. You can release the the volume_up key if you see the Download mode screen.
If it stays in download mode then follow my guide about flash stock rom with LG flashtool. Link in my signature.
Guys I guess I got it figured. I guess my power button is stuck. Well it doesn't look so physically but it sure acts that way. For example, when I get into the bootloader for a second and I either press the vol up or down key, as soon as the second is over the option on-screen (power off or restart bootloader) is selected (i.e. the power button is implemented), and the device either powers off or restarts into bootloader. So I flicked my finger on it few times, once it booted normally but then again it looped and once the charging screen was shown and then it again looped. Can anyone suggest some solution?

If your power button is sticking, then you or a service depot have to fix it. There's nothing else to be done except physically fixing it.

Ohh great I'm going tomorrow. I opened it but nothing seemed stuck or anything. I wish they treat me the same.

Since warranty is borked get a cutter, small piece of quality electrical tape ( to keep button up; TEMPORARY FIX ONLY!)) plastic Credit card and miniature Philips screwdriver and use your imagination I did it myself without any previous knowledge using this BELOW LINKED guide and my brain it's FAIRLY easy if your are careful with connectors and don't screw anything else.

Vid about power button rattle fix (usefull for dissasembly):

check the teardown and stuff the little strips (1-2 mm squares) of tape with trial and error like kinda sort of a O-ring under the power button the ceramic key must "float" over the edges pieces of tape this IS VERY TRICKY it can be time consuming be patient you can use different material tape but I tried cloth etc and figured out 3M electrical tape was the best due to its softness and thickness... worked for me until I got my new untampered N5 ... good luck and use a clean desk for the sake of not losing parts! And before reassembling make sure you got just enough movement to press the beforementionned power key if you don't you'll have to re-open it and each time it's like asking the devil to kick your butt!
The more you will open it the worst the backdoor WILL GET LOOSE (battery cover pins are weak 3-4 times is kinda max X you can open it before getting loose) your can order B/Whites ones from them for 25$

Link is for white backdoor black are real easy to find and RED are more than 40$ everywhere still...
Good luck to all!
