Stock 4.3 dialer? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ant way to go back to old style dialer. I prefer it better over the new dialer in kitkat. Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Maybe pull it from an AOSP build? That'd be my first place I'd look.

I have the same issue. The new kitkat dialer is not my taste at all. It's confusing. Any possible way to get the 4.3 stock dialer?
As per my knowledge, removing the stock kitkat dialer with Titanium Backup and installing the 4.3 dialer should work, haven't tried yet. Maybe a flashable zip pulled up from aosp build?

Swipe Dialer is a good replacement:

[Q] Emoji?

My friends are always sending me emojis but i can never see them, is there a way to install emojis like on the stock jelly bean sms app?
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I don't know about stock SMS, but I use GO SMS pro and the emoji plugin works great. There is also an emoji keyboard in the play store, but I haven't used it so I can't say how well it works.
I've had that but i don't really like the feel of 3rd party messaging apps...
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Which stock jelly bean SMS app are you referring to? I'm currently on Wang's Magic Mod and with that one, it looks like you have to enable emoji support in the settings menu, under extra settings. It doesn't show all of them though.
Could i install that one onto stock ota ics?
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I know you can install the ROM on ota ics, but I don't think you can install just the SMS app, unless you can find one that is ported to ics. If you're rooted, I think there is a way to add/replace the emoji font, but I haven't personally tested that.
Okay thanks

Circle lock screen

Has anyone been able to get the jelly bean lock screen that has the circle with the quick launch apps around it? I tried searching but to no avail I found squat. I'm running the ota jb update rooted

Check some of the touchwiz roms, they have it, if you read the op description.(which I doubt you do)
I'm not looking to re flash a new rom. I'm just looking for a way to flash a fix over the rom I have that changes the touchwiz one.

[Themed App] [Touch wiz] AOSP Keyboards Themed Black Gray Holo Pink

These are confirmed working for stock rooted and clean rom. They should work for any touch wiz based rom.
Do not flash on non touch wiz based ROMs. Will not work for 4.2.2.
Not my work, I just ported them to our phones.
Thanks to Strategikqc, Kabauterman and H3llsdr0id for their themes and work.

Great. Thanks a bunch. Say, I've got the official keyboard from JOP40D on my phone right now, but I think flashing your zip would replace this...is there any way to rename your zip so I can see both as options under keyboard settings?

Interesting, thanks....I thought the apk had to be "latinime.apk" for the keyboard to be flashed correctly?
Ill give it a go with your confirmation that renaming the apk file will yield correct results.
Edit: I also live in Long Island, not far from you

The apk inside will. Don't flash the zip on a cm ROM because it contains a framework edit specific to towchwiz.

Yes it should but its got a framework edit specific to the vzw build so flashing the zip may break stuff, may work just fine. If you get aosp MMS to work on your ROM then you can extract the apk file from these zips and push them to the system and they should work just fine

These are built from the 4.2.1 keyboard, I believe 4.2.2 is different and these will not work. If you know how, try to push the images from one of these apks into the 4.2.2 latinime and see what happens.

4.4 kit kat help.

Hey I finally got my CyanogenMod nightly installed and running on Kit Kat. But now I need help! How do you lock the home screen so you can't move apps around or folders I've set up? And how do I hide certain app icons that are in the drawer? I've done both on 4.3 jelly bean.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Well I don't have these problems. Are you sure the bugs don't exist in nightlies? did you do a clean install?? And I don't know about hide apps part.

I did a clean install yes

You need the gel launcher installed then delete Google search and the 3.1.8 update will install. I just checked my version and its 3.1.24 why do you want to install an older version.
I thought 3.1.8 is a newer version than 3.1.24. And do we have the full Google experience now?

Its not newer 24 is higher than 8 and I installed the 3.1.8 and was prompted to update to the version I already had. The only thing we don't have is the Google dialer 100%. Its damn close accept your calls are routed through the stock dialer and the caller I'd doesn't work for non contacts.
I am stock BigV and on 4.4 just trying to get the most out of my maxx. Any words of wisdom for me?

Not a lot you can do without root to be honest. The google dialer needs root to be installed you have to put it into a system folder. However on google play there is a KK dialer that is identical to the one we can install just not having all the neat caller id and search features. the GEL launcher you should be able to install without root i think.
Just installed the Google launcher its way better thanks for that little help...
