[Q] Zeam + "OK Google" ? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Installed zeam launcher on my nexus 5. This broke the "OK google" feature. Any ideas how to get it back without reverting to the old launcher.
Thanks

Not possible without using Google Launcher

The "OK google" function is only in the stock launcher and isn't built into the hardware.

KitKat only.
Here is the Google Now Launcher with integrated google now and always listening for "ok google now" enabled. Just set voice in google now options to English US and check Hotword detection option and it will listen all the time

Edit. Go to settings/security and tick allow unknown sources, then open it in any file explorer and it will install normally.
Thanks but.. How do we install it?

Like any normal app. Allow unknown sources and open it with any file explorer. It will instal normally. Btw i have found that commands like "set an alarm" only work if u got device language in english us. Enjoy
This doesn't work on all devices. My Verizon Galaxy S4 gives a parsing error.

Well this is the g2 forum and I got it installed on mine as we speak. Also I think it needs Kitkat to run.

Yeah, it works great on my D802 4.4.2!
Working great for me on 4.4.2 with two issues.
Certain widgets don't work
"OK Google" Doesn't work. Mic icon is soild and it says say OK Google.. but then the mic icon goes hollow and the voice command doesn't work. Hotword detection is on and English US is selected.
GEL
This one works without any problems on stock 4.2.2 , "Ok, Google" works. Also tried this launcher on my Note 8 tablet. Also, no problems at all. Probably will work on any device

I can confirm #2. Don't really want to install the old version of the GEL as per T1RaeL's post, would rather wait for this to be fixed. Hotword detection is not a huge issue for me.

Lg widgets work with lg launcher only so weather widget for example won't work with other launcher. "Ok google" works (tested in two different g2) but phone needs to be unlocked. It won't wake up ur phone unless it is a moto x. Neither the version I posted nor the one that is posted by the guy above. It is always listening as long as the phone is awake and u are not in any application (i.e game etc)
Also confirmed that LG weather widget does not work on with the GEL launcher. In addition, my wallpapers are squished. Hitting home from Google Now does not bring me back to the main screen, unlike the Nexus 5's launcher.
'OK Google' works when you have the offline speech recognition pack downloaded.
If that still does not work, LG's KK update turned on the 'on screen phone' in accessibility, which interferes with hot keyword recognition.
Please let me know if others are experiencing the same issue.

[Q] "OK Google" permanently listening ...

Does anyone know a cheat, fix or app that allows Google search to be permanently active and listening for the "OK Google" command, regardless of whatever else is open or foremost on screen? "OK Google" is a phenomenon, but it's a shame that it only works after bringing Google Search or Google Now to the fore; it would be wonderful if it could be permanently listening out for the "OK Google" audio command.

Many thanks. I've installed GEL launcher (KK Launcher), and Google Search is indeed always present. However, "OK Google" still only works after first pressing the microphone icon…? I'm looking for a solution whereby if the phone is on, then "OK Google" responds, without having to press anything first.
(I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, running 4.2.2, rooted but on factory ROM.)

you might have to toggle it, im pretty sure that it has it the option in settings, try this one instead http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/apps-google-experience-launcher-gel-app-t2529594 its the real deal pulled from the nexus 5 , i imagine that it always listening will pull some ram away so note that.

OK, first up my grateful thanks, the basic Google Now launcher you recommended does the trick and I have permanently-on "Go Google". BINGO!
However... ! That launcher is of course extremely basic; only one home page and almost no options. So here's where I get greedy! Is there a way of maintaining the permanently-on Go Google feature of Google Now Launcher, but with the better options and functionality of GEL Launcher?

im sure there is that sort of thing that someone has made already, as for the one homepage there should be more than one? to the left is the google now posts and might have to drag apps to the right to make one. the menu is very disapointing i feel like its a step down, i always got to the settings from there but you only go to the launchers settings.

Agreed. But I've found the solution; I've found an app that does it! "Open Mic+" keeps the Go Google mic open all the time, even when the screen is off. It's working fine under my current launcher, Apex, and I'm just testing now to see if it works with GEL too.

awesome find! i might have to try it out as well!
I thought I'd post a quick update:
"Open Mic+" is doing a great job, giving me permanently-on "OK Google". BUT ...I've found that it's hogging the voice engine and so I can't use voice dictation anywhere else. The only way round that I've found is to have to switch off Open Mic+ whenever I want to dictate anything elsewhere, which is something of a pain.
It looks like I'm not going to be able to have my cake and eat it after all!

Google Assistant running on Moto X pure.

Not sure if there is a thread on this already or not but I have gotten Google assistant to work with the exception of '' OK Google '' voice prompt.
https://youtu.be/53AE3YB4SqU
Should I post a tutorial?
It was fairly simple. Root and Xposed version 81 are required.
Yes, please.
That'll be helpful. For some reason it's not enabled even after installing AndroidN-ify exposed module on mine. I guess I need an updated Google App for that, not sure though. Looking forward to your tutorial

You can get it working with the "Ok Google" prompt as well, but you give up Moto Voice.
Turn off Moto Voice and the Assistant Xposed Mod
Reboot phone
Google App -> Settings -> Voice -> "Ok Google" Detection
Set up "Ok Google" detection
Turn the Assistant Xposed Mod back on
Reboot phone
Launch the assistant with "Ok Google" and it will walk you through the process for voice detection again.
A couple notes:
If you don't turn the Xposed Mod off, selecting Ok Google settings will crash the app, and it needs to be set up at least once.
If you don't turn off Moto Voice, it will use Google Now instead of the Assistant when you use voice activation.

The Material Xposed Installer is probably the easiest way to do it, if you're already rooted and have TWRP installed.

Did all of those. Google assistant even comes up when I say 'Ok Google' now. But every time it goes into training mode. And the Google app still crashes when I go into 'Ok Google detection' menu. Any idea why it's so? Do I also have to update my Play services app?

It is a known issue and I think it hasn't been solved yet.
Android N-ify nightlies xposed module besides the assistant brings more Nougat goodies. https://ci.paphonb.xyz/jenkins/job/AndroidN-ify/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-android-n-ify-features-t3345091
Google Assistant on Nougat, Xposed not needed. Get Assistant - Root app on the Play store. It changes your build.prop for you as well as backing the old one up and tells you what to do from there. Only thing is whenever you use the "Okay Google" and assistant opens it keeps going back to the setting to train your voice. Like it isn't saving it but it will recognize your voice once you press "Do it later". Another way around is I long press my home button, assistant opens, then you can talk. Once the assistant is already open "Okay Google" works just fine.
This is running on AICP 12.1 Nightlies (Nougat)

Yeah I'm with you on that, I'm using TruePureXMM v2.9 with GravityBox, Android N-ify & Assistant Enabler and after setting up Ok Google voice detection in the Google App / Settings, and then again once within the Assistant when it first opened... It's not having 1 issue at all and isn't asking to retrain, even after a reboot and works perfectly with both Ok Google and long-pressing the home button. Outstanding!!!
I noticed on the new Google beta app 6.10.33.21 that Google assistant no longer needs chop assistant on any custom nougat Roms. The retain voice bug is gone! Happy day!

Just confirmed that it is also working on my Nexus 6. Once the Google beta app is installed the retrain issue is resolved. Nexus 6 is stock rooted with assistant.
My Google assistant is now showing "can't reach Google at the moment" getting the same issue on my Nexus 6. Google now works but the assistant just quit working. Anyone else having this issue?
now that google assistant is rolling out to all devices, which is better for stock, our moto voice or the google 1?

Nova 5.0

Hello everyone
Yesterday Nova Launcher 5.0 has arrived and comes with pixel like swipe to open drawer and dock backgrounds to draw under navbar.
When I apply to draw under navbar first it works then when I use the navbar it switches back to black background? I hope you understand what I am saying
Can Anyone who tried the new Nova Launcher help me please?
It only works on the home screen
I know that. it was black background at the home screen too. But I solved the problem you need to turn on the transparent notification bar. Now it looks as it should be
Thank you though
Anyone using Nova 5 on B320? Each time I set Nova as the default launcher and press the home button it reverts back to EMUI and I get the Smart Recovery message telling me my phone has recovered from a serious error caused by Nova. Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks

Set Nova as your default launcher.
Black background or u got the stock launcher again ? if u got back to stock then set default if u got black background might be an issue with the app update .
Reverts back to the stock launcher. As for disabling Huawei Home it isn't listed under Apps so how to disable?

This is weird. I never had this problem with Nova.
Maybe something to do with the fact I'm running beta firmware. I've emailed the developer to see if they can can up with anything. Thanks all for your input.

not related to beta or any thing just try to reinstall i download the nova 5 and was awesome ! ...
Hi all, was there ever a solution to this? Using an honor 6x and experiencing same issue. I downloaded and set Nova launcher as default. Works for a while only to revert to home launcher after a warning message "smart recovery- device recovered from a serious failure...".
Previously i had disabled the home launcher and it rendered my device useless until I restored a backup through twrp...
Forces me to uninstall and reinstall Nova to be able to use it.
However this time around I hid Huawei home launcher in magisk and it seemed to last longer without the warning.

Nova Launcher issue

Hello friends,
So i am using nova launcher prime -latest version as default launcher.
I am facing issue in double tap to screen lock method in nova launcher. As i give permission in accessibility, it works but after few hours or a day, it resets the feature and i have to turn off/turn on the accessibility permission given to nova launcher.
Can anyone guide as to why is this happening and how to resolve this??
Thanks in advance buddies.

I have the same setup with no issue. Try to remove Nova as the default launcher and use Oxygen launcher that the phone came with. Press and hold an open spot from the main screen to pop up the screen settings. From there toggle off the double tap to lock screen. Re-set Nova as your default launcher again. In Nova setting reactivate the the double tap to lock screen

I'm having the same problem with Greenify. The accessibility setting turns off. Funny thing is Nova works fine! And Nova's battery is optimized! I have de-optimized Greenify and, for good measure, I have locked it in the resent apps. Is there something peculiar to greenify here? The phone is unrooted.
