[Q] Restore phone contacts via Facebook or whatsapp - General Questions and Answers

Hello there!
As far as I know Facebook as well as Whatsapp save one's contacts on their servers when the app is installed. A friend of mine, now lost all his contacts. He can't get them back through a backup and they also are not synced with his Google account. Now I was wondering, if there is a possibility to get the contacts from Facebook or Whatsapp (those two apps have been installed).
Any suggestions? Did anybody try this?
Thanks for the answers in advance

i guess you can get whatsapp contacts
simply use a whatsapp extraction tool which will give you access to all contacts which were stored in your whatsapp application library.
look around for a tool named whatsapp extractor from myphondata. that might be of some help to your friend.

I have alot of contacts, and dont want to do each one manualy. I tried to set up contacts sync to make it sync with gmail, but it will only sync google contacts it seems.

[Q] Can GMail contacts replace Phone contacts?

I rooted my Droid 2 successfully yesterday and all went well...mostly. I wiped data and cache and somewhere within the process my Phone Contacts were deleted. I remembered I have Backup Assistant and recently synced my contacts so I opened the app and pressed Sync, thinking it would restore my contacts but it only deleted the backup. My last resort was my GMail contacts which were identical to my Phone Contacts. The main problem is that when I receive calls/texts, phone numbers show up instead of names, even though I have the contacts in my GMail Contacts. What should I do?
You can link the Google Contacts to the Phone Contacts.

Will that show up names in SMS?
I use my gMail contacts as my sole way of getting contacts, saves a lot of hassle. It all works fine with phone calls, SMS, etc, works seamlessly with no difference to if the contact were stored on the phone. I have 0 contacts on my phone, I just sync with Google instead - I find it much easier, simpler and more efficient.

Well I'd like to do that. I have all my contacts in the Gmail contacts section but my Phone contacts is empty. For some reason SMS don't show the names of my contacts at times

[Q] SMS backup/restore/manage/duplicates/online sync etc.

Hello, dear Forum.
You'll probably say that this question was asked and answered a million times, but i couldn't manage to find the write answer, so I ask:
Where do SMS-s go, when they are being backed up by android/google?
I'm using a HTC Desire, and i play a lot whit different roms (like everyone here I guess). I use MyBackup Root to backup some stuff including SMS-s, but I can see that when my phone is freshly flashed, it automatically starts downloading contacts and messages. I found where the contacts are - in google contacts. But where are the messages stored in google? I get a lot of duplicates and I'd like to go and delete all backed up messages from google and continue using only MyBackup Root.
So if anyone can point me to the right direction, I'll be most grateful.
P.S. pls don't post the noob movie from youtube )
I used this programm for backing up my contacts, sms, ...

You need the app from android market too^^
Maybe it will help you. I think there is a google sync too, so mybe you can erase your duplicates.

Thank You a lot for the app! But I was really interested if someone knew where are the backed up sms-s and can they be managed (viewed, deleted, copied etc.) like the contacts in google contacts.
I think I found the source of the duplicated messages (and contacts). I think it's the HTC Sence.com. It keeps my messages on the site, and my contacts. Stupid thing is that I can not do a "Select All>Delete" Usually I have around 270 contacts. Over there i have 888 contacts and my messages have 3-4 copies each.

[Q] NEED HELP PLS! missing contact info

so I need to view my contacts which is in .spb file. I am having a trouble because I just changed my phone to N5 from S3. Apparently kies doesn't let me open backed up contacts without a phone (all I see is music, photos, videos and podcast when i open kies no option to open .spb file). I have most of my contacts imported from google contact but apparently not all the contacts.. I dont need to convert or anything I just need to see what on the list so I can save the ones that were missing from my google contact. Is there any way I can just see the contacts? I'm using mac OSX 10.9 btw
Thanks!
