Just now I've noticed my Google Now mic went hollow which indicates I have Google Now hotword detection turned off. The thing is, I have never messed with any Google Now settings. I tried unchecking and checking the hotword detection with no avail. I finally rebooted my phone and it came back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

that would be a google server issue.
Also if the mic or speaker are actively being used it will turn hollow as to not disrupt itself.
I've experienced this too, and a reboot fixed it

Do you have anything switched on in the accessibility option in settings? something like Light flow, or any thing that uses notifications? I had this same issue and it was a notification to pc mirroring app that was ticked "On" in accessibility.
I just looked and I have light flow installed but it was turned off in the accessibility section. So I'm not too sure.

I get this same issue frequently usually after listening to music via Bluetooth and it never resolves until I've done a reboot.

mine disappears with nova launcher; switch back to gel and it is back
it needs language settings to English (US) to make the ok google now hot word detection work

Today it started to read practically everything to me....mostly facebook, but also texts, & calls.
Driving mode is off,
talk back is off
i dont have Lightflow installed.
im confused. the ONLY thing that i did do today was enable Driving mode to test it out, the i turned it off. (via the notification area, as well as enabled then disabled it via the settings menu...)
anyone have any ideas WTF is going on?> also a reboot did not fix it.
My Nexus 7 did the same thing to, but it stopped on its own

no one has any idea how to turn this off?
its now also reading everything from the XDA app
Go into settings, accessability, and turn off text to speech feature
I think I just figured out, the number one tool to own if you're going to own a Samsung phone is a sense of humor.
I'm sorry OP, but your thread cracks me up and every time I read your post

I LOL some more. I'm giving this **** 5 stars.
I should not have to turn it off. Then is mostly a circumvent and not a solution
Also I am not sure what is so entertaining about the post

Unless you are visually impaired or need total hands free operation Text to Speech should be disabled.

i installed LED flow which needed to have some accessibility options enabled, and after that my voice started too. i never did check the box to turn it on, but it did it on its own.
i uninstalled LED flow as i did not like it, and everything else returned to normal.
When you click a folder on your home screen does it say "The folder is open" and/or "The folder is closed"? If it does it means you have something in accessibility turned on. I use tasker. Some of the features requires tasker accessibility turned on. When I do that I get the annoying text to speech notifications like that. Only way to turn them off is to have nothing all at enabled in accessibility. I dont have to disable tts in language and input, so I can still use google now, eva voice assistant and astrid still reads me my reminders. But I cannot use any tasker task that requires accessibility, without hearing" the folder is open. The folder is closed" etc etc etc.

That's what it was saying to me. It was annoying. Like I said I went in and removed led flow, reset all the accessibility settings and it's silent now.

Turn off driving mode. Or go to setting>text to speech> touch the word driving mode> uncheck what you do not want for S3 to speak

My google now hot work detection stopped work for some reason, even tho I have hot work enabled thru google now and the language is English (US). You can see my google voice mic in the google search bar is hollow. Anyone know a fix for it? I tried rebooting the phone and it didn't help.

Scroll over to Google Now and head to settings and look inside the Voice category.
See if Hotword Detection is on or not. If not, turn it on and that should do the trick!
If it IS on though, try giving it a toggle.
it is checked. I gave it a toggle it still doesn't work...
It likes to stop working for me too.
I found that putting in headphones tends to disable the hotword.
Try plugging in headphones, unplugging them, then screen off, and screen on.
I found the problem. It was pushbullet. Whenever I have that installed it disabled my always listening hot word detection. Not sure why.

My phone is a Droid Maxx. After the last Google search update, I decided to deactivate Touchless Countrol and activate the "OK Google" hotword option in Google Now and checked all the boxes including the one that listens "from any screen." Turns out this setting causes a conflict with the microphone when trying to record video. I tried both the stock camera app and the Google camera app. Disabling this in Google Now restores functionality.
The ironic thing is that after re-enabling Touchless Control and re-training my "OK Google Now" launch phrase, "OK Google" also works. The only reason I dropped Touchless Control was so that I could make my Maxx consistent with my Nexus 7. Net result, missed recording fireworks last night.
Thought I'd pass this on in case it hasn't been mentioned before. I got my solution from another forum on the Mini.
Regards...
I had the same prob and this fixed it, so thanks... Although, you'd think the functionality between the 2 would be worked out at this point.

Hi guys,
Is any tricks I don't know to enable mini screen view?
Checked so many times settings-smart assistance-one hand UI-mini screen view ON. Still nothing. Any ways to fix it?
Thank you.

Swipe left or right along the bottom navigation bar.

works perfect for me....
I have the same issue. Despite the setting being turned on, it doesn't work.
It's deactivated itself because of some other setting I have enabled, but I haven't figured out which one yet. The reason I know this, is because I set up a second 'guest' user and when I log in to that profile (which I haven't done any setting adjustments to) it works.

Is your Magnification Gestures setting on? Advanced Settings > Accessibility > Magnification gestures. I had it turned on earlier and found the mini screen view not working. On a hunch, I turned it off and voila, the mini screen is back.

Yes! That fixed it. I cannot believe the time I have spent trying to figure what setting breaks the mini screen. Thanks mate.
.
No problem. I'm learning every day. Only had my Mate 9 for two days and I've come across 2 problematic/clashing areas already. One being this and the other being the OK Google voice recording thingy.

I think the voice issue was due to be fixed in an imminent release. I only see this issue when using voice recorder or in the camera app when using voice control. In both cases everything works OK but you just get the annoying banner. I just ignore it. You can always temporarily disable OK Google voice prompt.

I ended up uninstalling the latest Google update for now and the annoying pop-up is gone. Will be waiting for the fix when it comes in.
Got similar problem with regular Mate 10 (not pro nor lite). Any idea how to fix it?... there is no magnification menu.
I know it's not supposed to work from a locked phone, but I can't get it to work with the screen on even. Any clues what could be wrong? I do have the bxactions app installed and using the Bixby button for Google now, but I doubt think that's the culprit. I've also postponed the first tmobile system update but it worked when I first got the phone. Suggestions?

Mine suddenly stopped working too. It could be the recent google app update that broke it, I remember getting that update. I retrained my voice again and so far so good.
Same problem here. Restarting seems to fix mine for awhile but something is causing it to glitch out and stop working.
Edit: seems to stop working whenever I open the camera, then it's stuffed until reboot.
After reinstalling google now working fine
Haven't had any issues with mine, even after the last update. Was using one of the Bye Bixby apps and had the button remapped to flashlight but uninstalled it due to the horrible lag the app produced.
It seems to be a problem with power saving mode. The mic stops working after turning on the power saver mode. Restarting the phone will F fix the problem.

No. Ok google doesn't work until lock screen is displayed.
is there any update to this?
for me ok google works for while, then stops working and a reboot is the only way to fix it. only annoying thing is i need to reboot every other day. this issue doesn't seems to be covered much?
OK Google not working? Fix:
If you set up "trusted devices" to keep your phone unlocked, that is what stops "ok google" from working. Its been that way since the Galaxy S6. Don't know why they don't fix it?! Go to Settings/Lock Screen and Security/Smart Lock/Trusted Devices. Remove your Trusted Devices and it will work again.

Will this make ok Google work when screen is off?
You still have to press the power or home button to wake your device, and then it will unlock it with the "ok google" voice command instead of using the iris, fingerprint, password, pattern, etc.
In my case, Google doesnt work holding the home button for search

Mine works when I retrai the voice model.. but if I use bixby voice it never works again until I retrain... I wonder if the two are conflicting each other. Samsung is probably purposely sabatoging Google assistant. To push bixby. I've only had this issue since the release of bixby voice
I had this problem for a couple of weeks and it was bugging the hell out of me.
Ok Google would work, but it would not speak back to me, just bring up search results.
For me the problem was in languages.
I'm in the UK and no matter how many times I set the language to English as default, the damn phone would constantly show Settings>Google>Search>Voice: as "English (South Africa)"
But in Settings>Google>Search>Search Language it would show as what it should be, which is "English (UK)"
Anyway, basically what I did was clear cache and data in apps tab, then set my S8 Plus as pictured below.....but obviously choose your own language and make sure BOTH show the same language....default and the other. (see pics)
Also click 'Ok Google detection' and select 'Retrain voice model' (after the cache wipe etc of course and after you made sure both screens say same language.
Select Say 'ok google' any time.
plus, I selected trusted voice, so also unlock screen too.
if your settings look like mine in the screenshots.....should work.
Matt
---------- Post added at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:31 PM ----------
Also, go to settings>Accessibility>Text-to-speech and make sure Default language is the same as on the other screens.
That's what sorted it all for me anyway....
Ok Google works fine for me as long as the phone isn't being charged. If it's being charged, it is as if my mic is disabled.

Here are some quick things to try that have helped me:
1) Restart your phone, its likely that going into high-battery saving mode disables mic and a lot of settings.
2) Remove trusted devices.
3) Reinstall and Uninstall Google
Ok so this is really annoying. On my lg g6, the phone can be locked and screen off. I can say ok google without touching the phone and it will unlock and be ready for my voice command. I am not get my s8 to do that. Ok google only works after physically unlocked. Then when i can get to open with ok google my daily briefing will not work no matter how I ask for it.
