Hello,
I have noticed that my micro USB is pretty tight. I have to insert the charging cable with a slight angle and wiggle it a lot to unplug it.
Is this normal ?
Thanks for the feedback !

The charger that came with mine is also pretty tight but all other chargers I have used seem fine. Maybe it just needs to be broken in a bit? haha
Thanks. I just have used my kindle cable and this is indeed better !

Tight is better than loose. The cable keeps falling out of my N7.

The micro USB cable that came with the phone isn't what I would consider 'tight', although 'snug' seems more appropriate in my case. I definitely don't have to maneuver the cable into the phone to charge it, nor do I have to wiggle it a lot to pull it out.
I realize if you remove 'micro USB', 'cable' and 'phone' from my post, it could be taken WAY out of context...
Edit: Actually this is the case with this entire thread =P

Actually, it's been several years since I taught 9th graders so I don't often instinctively think "that way" these days! It was so second nature--especially with Shakespeare.
Thanks for the chuckle. (I LOVED 9th graders---really!)
Oh, and after reading this, it was REALLY hard for me not to reply (there) to your "Kind of a bummer but after the first time you should be fine" in another thread.
Mine is very snug but sure does charge fast!
Same here, my micro USB is very snug. I had some trouble with it multiple times, especially in the dark. I've sort of figured out the right angle to plug it in at now. Just not used to it being this difficult time compared to my old phone and nexus 7

Yea, first thing I did when I got this phone. I dumped the usb cable in the trash and went and got a really good short thick cable.

i would go with something no more than 2-3 ft. just long enough to go from outlet to top of dresser or desk. also make sure it's nice and tough. best bet is to go a store and buy it instead of over the web.

I have a ten footer in my vehicle that I use as a charger/data for my H/U. From time to time I will notice mp3's sound weird. If I switch to bluetooth they sound fine. SO yeah the longer the cable the more chance for goof ups. Rule of thumb the shortest distance in anything dealing with electric cables is better.
Just an opinion, but when I bricked mine I tried 3 stock cables at home to get into download mode and none recognized, but the blackberry "FireWire" (notice thickness vs the stock android one) was the only thing that worked.. and it is a tighter fit

+1 on the Blackberry cables.
I've broken my micro usb connector twice. Never had this issue with another phone. Anyone else have this problem? I guess I'm going to have to limit the number of connections after getting my phone fixed this time. I wish I could get a more robust port. Shouldn't this be a standard part across phones since pretty much every phone has the same port? Or am I wrong? Just curious if a company makes a more robust port that can be retrofitted to this phone?
Thanks everyone...

I connect my ac adapter several times per day. At least once in the morning, twice in the car, and once at work. Connecting and disconnecting the micro-usb cable seems to somehow break the connection so that the port stops charging. It doesn't seem to be a case of the port being loosened. The connection is still tight and fits properly. It must be something inside the port that is breaking. Eventually I have to jiggle the cable to get it to connect properly. Then eventually the connection is broken and cannot connect to charge the phone. At first I thought it might be because I was using Belkin cables or connecting the phone to the Samsung desktop dock station. However after the port broke once, I then only used Verizon cables and stopped using the dock station. It broke again. I've seen others reporting the same issue. I don't know how widespread the problem is with the phone. It's frustrating because I would probably keep the phone past two years were it not for this problem.
Mines broken too as of recently too. It will charge off and on all the time. Sometimes I wake up charged, sometimes dead. Rofl

D'oh! I could've sworn this said SD card and not USB port. My bad.
I've never had a problem with my port and I charge every night. I actually keep switching out batteries so I really don't have to stay on a charger. Dunno what to tell ya. Maybe you're too manly and rough?

The connection in mine is pretty hit or miss. I have to clean pocket lint out of it once in a while. That helps for a while. But even with that it doesn't seem to click into place like it used to. I put mine in the car dock every time I go somewhere and I'm always plugging it in to charge since I use my battery up too fast.
I have yet to break the port on my device, but I gave gone through several third party chargers which all broke.

Charge Not Charging!!
Wow I had no intentions what-so-ever to post about this micro usb connector issue that I have also been having until I came across the thread title. I would have just kept thinking it was my own fault for man-handling it or something. I have gone through several micro usb charging adapters for my non-charging droid charge. What a giant annoyance. I find if you press the cord into the port to charge and hold it at the right angle...for several hours straight...it will maybe work. Sometimes. In all seriousness though I found that the extremely short samsung adapter cord that the phone came with does the best job. Tried cleaning out the inside of the port too with small toothpick and it didnt even seem to have any gunk build up in there. I brought it to Best Buy and they said if I wanted to try soldering the tiny connector inside the port more securely to the motherboard in the phone...it might help...
I would happily keep my droid charge for a while longer if I could resolve this issue...even though the thought of upgrading to the Note 2 is pretty enticing...but id rather hold off on dropping 3 bills at the moment.
Does anyone know if Samsung will do anything about this issue if I were to call in about it or send it in to be checked out? Verizon stores apparently dont do any physical repairs.
seems to be a big problem with this phone. my cousin had 2 go bad and i had one so far.
I also had one go bad actually
As long as I keep the pocket lint out of it it's not too bad. But even at that I have to be real careful when it's plugged into my computer. It's liable to lose the connection at the slightest wiggle.

I stay in hotels alot...so I go ask to dig thru their box of lost chargers behind the desk and find a micro USB charger and I use my factory one for Odin flashing...as for the port inside my phone I never had a problem...just the factory cord has gone out on my fascinate and this charge...needs a face down charge with the factory cord or it won't work...lol

Hoping it's normal and not just mine, because I plug/unplug mine more than the average person.
Directly comparing to my year old Nexus 4 -- there's a lot more side-to-side play in the USB port. It doesn't feel as solidly plugged in...
Anyone with both devices notice the same? Nexus 4, the plug doesn't wiggle at all, but in the Nexus 5 it wiggles in any directly.
Not a major issue.
USB Port difficult to plug
I am having the opposite problem. I have noticed it takes a fair amount of pressure to plug the usb into the nexus 5 port
and likewise with unplugging. I am concern the extra force will affect the port or usb cord over time. I left a message with Google helpdesk so will see if this is just my phone or a defect in port or plug.

yah, too tight for me too. :/
Once the USB is plugged in mine has a fair amount of Wiggle/ feels loose.
Think I'm going to return my phone as I also have the power button issue.
I found its to tight when you plug the micro port to your phone straight, but if you put the left side (or right side) first then slide the opposite side, it plugs in much much more easily.

If you had a Gnex you wouldn't be complaining about it being too tight. The USB port on the Gnex was a huge issue.

Mine was extremely tight. Then one charge later became loose side to side and up and down.
Is it the connector inside? I wonder if it moved out of position and I can move it back.
bringing an old thread back.
My USB port is also "loose" that it actually stops charging if I move it. Super annoying because it's a replacement phone I got last week. My old one didn't do this. Tried multiple USB cables.

I would but I just got this one as a replacement. but I found my wife s4 white cable stays snugged with little play. I'll use that one now.. lol. But if its gets worse, I still got warranty time.
Try a different usb cable. It's not the usb "port" that gets loose overtime, it's actually the male end of the usb cable that gets loose. If you look at the connector at the end of the cable, you'll see 2 hooks on the top of it, overtime they become looser, that is your problem.
When I first got the n5 and tried it with the oem cable they included, it was a very tight fit. However, when I went to try another cable it felt much easier to plug in.

i'd try with other cables, tried with my brother's htc usb cable yesterday, it charged normally, but this problem arises randomly, so might have to test for few more days.. :highfive:
Clean out the usb port, blow some compressed air in there or carefully use a toothpick. Even a small amount of dust or debris can cause the cable to feel loose. Then once it's fixed, throw away all wall chargers and use a wireless pad
Hi guys, finally received this beast of a phone after a few week's of waiting
Is anyone else having issues inserting the supplied charger into the nexus 5 port? Very afraid of charging this now since it's near impossible to get this in. Can anyone confirm if it's normal that the actual port is quite deep into the phone as is?
The thought of having pushed the port in deeper accidentally already would be a nightmare
Mine seems fine. A photo?

Ok now to the point, I have the same problem though its not a problem. What you need to do is carefully insert the cable while slightly pushing it upwards.. Its not misaligned or something.. It's very hard to get it in..

This has been bugging me for a few weeks now and I've been getting rather upset at the thought of returning my phone thinking there is something wrong with the charge port. Every (all three of mine) USB-C cable eventually slides down off the port just enough to make it kind of loose or wobbly. But there's good news, apparently it is designed that way to prevent what is called a 'friction fit'...
https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/phone-by-google/a4nlyABPKJ0
This could be a cop-out too, I've had some USB mini cables that were less than stellar. As for now though, it's comforting thinking it was made that way.

You might not be pushing the cable in all the way. You slide it in to the end, then push it a little bit more. It should have a bit of a "click" when it latches in, and sit fairly firmly.
