Just got a brand new S4 from insurance company - Galaxy S 4 General

This mobile was shipped with Android 4.2.2, if I have understood things correctly I should NOT update this to Android 4.3 because of the new ''samsung security thing, KNOX or something)?
I should just rot, install recovery and flash 4.3 roms? Not upgrading first?

Up to you, but some 4.2.2 versions have KNOX bootloader so let us know your software version to see if you already have it. You can update and void knox if you don't care about using it or the warranty implications, which are unclear at best at the moment.
I rooted 4.2.2 with knox and installed a Google Edition ROM no hassle, working great, not looking back. I don't want knox, and I don't care about the warranty though!

Looks like that was the last Knox-free version! Open in download mode (volume up and power and home) just to be sure there is no Knox 0x0 in there, but afaik you're lucky and don't have it!

Lucky you! Keep it that way I reckon, there are knox free roms. I'm a bit jealous. Once I rooted all I got was that damn security warning popping up all the time. Android is starting to converge with iOS as time goes by. The OEMs should not be allowed this kind of control, and the network carriers should be given a choice: sell the device as is, or don't.
Google kowtowing all the time is sickening and then the OEM/network clamp down more and more on the dev community.

Hello guys,
I've downloaded firmware 5.1.1 for my Galaxy S6 SM-G920F but I didn't flash it because some of the websites said that it will cause battery drainage very badly.
Any one has done it? what about solving Ram issue? any information please

Just curious, what difference does it make if he has tripped Knox or not?
Frankly I never used Knox and what is has to do with the update?

Because if you update to 5.1.1 you have to break/trip knox to gain root, but if you have 5.0.2 you won't have to
Thanks for the info,
What about downgrading? Is it possible to get back to 5.0.2 after the update?

5.1.1 is much smoother and have less battery drain in my opinion.
I don't care about knoxx, the only thing what is important is smoothness of my phone.
I tryed custom recovery, stock recovery, root, no root,
And to be honest now I'm running the latest Xtrestolite (odex) and it's the best update till now! ( in my opinion )
5.1.1 will come to you at some point weather you like it or not. Best version of 5.1.1 is the one offered via OTA which is specific to your country. No fears of bricking your phone or voiding your warranty. A little patience is needed to wait for it as Samsung deploys it slower than we expected it. If you are the one who cares only for the latest which on most cases is the greatest and willing to take risks then flash away.
Thanks guys for the answers,
Mine is SM-G920F which the update came for france! Is it workable in other countries?
I'm just wondering is the 920F the more popular international model over the 920I? I have the 920F by the way.
There seems to be all kinds of bugs with 5.1.1, is it worth updating to it? If anything, I think I'll at least wait for the OTA, I live in America so will I get the OTA at same time as others around the world?
Can anyone confirm longer exposures than 1/10 sek in 5.1.1? For example try Manual Camera. In 5.0.2 the max. exposure is 1/10
Thanks!
I've updated it and its really smooth and faster.
But unfortunately the Ram Issue is the same! Still reaching 88%!!
Its a large update, its o er 500mb. I updated with no problems. I find the battery life a bit better. The phone runs smoother and there are a few extras with camera. I'm nit a camera person but do a search and you'll get the idea of the chance. You can now get rid off s finder and quick connect. Other features too. I like the update and Knox is not important to me, however. YOU CAN'T ROOT, right now.

Says Kernel not supported and it wont boot. Now have to use Odin to get back. 920P is not supported! Can't get back thru Odin so I'm letting it boot. Taking a long time and but finally there. I had to wipe everything. I'll let you know if it's rooted now. It booted but can;t use touch.
Did you guys update to 5.1 via ota? I'm in the UK with a non branded s6 and nothing available for me

N8013 the 2012 edition be upgraded to 4.4 without rooting ??

Just curious, I have an N8013 2012 edition, can that be upgraded to 4.4 without rooting, I I don't want to have to setup the whole tablet again, but would like to have 4.4 on it because a few 3rd party apps I use require minimum 4.2
If possible can someone guide me, cheers
Wow i guess not possible, 90 plus views and no replies, I guess I have no choice but to root.
Just flash a 4.4.2 ROM from GT-N8010 with Odin. 8010 and 8013 have the same hardware, wifi only...
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-N8010/
Should be possible...

If you use the 8010 kitkat version you will have issues with the mobile addons unless you root and remove them. Kitkat will NOT be released for the n8013. Samsung has no intentions of upgrading the wifi only US tablet EVER.
They released 1 update for the tablet and that's it. No security updates or bug fixes. And that is due to Apple suing them. The N8013 is one of the tablets Apple seems to think Samsung copied even though it has a pen.
You might as well root your tablet. The bloat on the stock rom is horrid.
please help me root

Hi all ok my query may be a quick one to answer. Tried my best researching this forum but their is so many different roots for your phone dont know which are good and which arn't.
Basically at this stage not interested in customer roms as my phone is fairly new and will plan to try some roms later on. At this moment in time i just need simple root access as im wanting to play emulators and the controllers connected wont connect as i dont have root access. I would like it rooted but to kep on the same stock rom and dont want the knox to be affected.
Which is the best, safest most successful way to just root the s6? and as always can it be reverted at any time? Many thanks

As of now there is no method available which could root your phone without tripping knox (except for 5.0.2),

CF-AutoRoot is probably the best way to go. It does most of the work for you. The phone can be unrooted, I guess, but KNOX will >always< be tripped
And I really wouldn't bother waiting around for a method to be developed that doesn't trip KNOX... People aren't hopeful and there doesn't seem to be much of an appetite from developers to create a method either
Thanks for the response, so what exactly will go wrong or happen if the KNOX is tripped? who do it connect to? and can it be un tripped if root access is removed? Just weighing up my options as im about 4 months into this s6 contract with EE
Thanks again.

There's NO WAY to untrip Knox for Exynos 7420 devices -for now-
If the KNOX tripped, you just can't use Samsung Pay and if you're rooted, you can't get OTA. If you reflash your device with Smart Switch, you'll get the OTA support again but there's no way to get the Samsung Pay support back.

Rooting Options

Hello. I want to root my S6. It's firmware is 6.0.1. I hear there is an option that trips the KNOX on 6.0.1., so if I root it on 6.0.1., I want to make sure I do it absolutely correctly, so I don't mess anything up, because you know as well as me that if the KNOX is tripped and the phone is bricked, you're outa luck with Samsung. So is there a guide for any sort of newbies on how to do this?
Awhile back, I rooted it on 5.0.2., and wanted to update it, so I used Odin to restore my phone. I used pingpongroot, so the the KNOX was left intact. That said, does anyone know if I can downgrade to 5.0.2. and root without tripping the KNOX? Pretty sure I have old 5.0.2. files around from when I restored my phone the first time.
Also, does anyone know if a rooted phone with a tripped KNOX fetches less than a normal phone when you are selling it. I may sell this in the future, probably to Verizon. If I wipe and restore everything with Odin before selling, will they care about the voided warranty?
There is currently no way to root a Verizon s6 on version 6 and once on version 6 there's no way to downgrade to 5.0.2.

At this point I don't really care if I trip Knox or not. Just need the root. I've brought my phone back from many many soft bricks and a few hard bricks <not fun.
It is Verizon. They do not care about you.
I'm on 5.0.2. May I know which methods to use to root my G920V?

Stock S8+ Oreo beta software.

Is it possible to find the beta firmware for the G955F? Just don't know where to look if someone could link me. Cheers

Flashing TWRP and custom ROM, there's not an official .zip signed by Samsung that won't trip Knox.
So be patient and wait for official release, or break Knox, wareanty, Samsung Pay and Secure folder in half.
