Are you stock rom/kernel or custom? I noticed this bug even on stock and I remember it existed even during nexus 4 times, jellybean.

Yup, on stock. Never had this problem with my previous samsung phones.

It is a nexus problem. Very unfortunate google has not fixed it yet.

Spot on. The issue has existed for quite some time now. Remember it at least since my Motorola Atrix 2. My Nexus 4 certainly has it.

Would also like to know this too. It takes 30-40 secs to get signal in certain locations that use to take 5 secs tops!
can i get a link to that radio
Yea the new radio blows. Flashed back the old one an everything is back to normal
All fine for me, although I did a factory reset after applying the OTA (which I do after all OTAs)

I think you need to be at least on an unlocked boot loader.
then you can fastboot flash it directly or install a custom recovery and flash a .zip version from there
Has anyone else 4g signal dropped on 4.4.2

[Q] Screen is black put still on (get calls, vibrates etc)

Hey guys!
I've had my phone for a couple of moths and just a few days ago it started acting weird. When i lock and unlock the phone my screen is black, but the phone is on and "fully working". If someone calls me, the phone vibrates but the screen is still black. Only way to fix it is to reboot. Anyone had this issue or know any solution?
Thanks

Glad I saw this thread. I was thinking it was a kernel related issue. I'm rooted stock with Franco. I was having the issue a few times around r40 - r44. Updated to r45 the other day and haven't had any issues since.
The issue disappeared as soon as I updated to r47. Thanks, guys

[Q] CM11 total loss of signal

I flashed the latest nightly yesterday. Everything was great. Then last night I had a total inability to make or receive phone calls. I thought it might just be an install issue so I did a reinstall and unfortunately same resuts. Im using radio m8974a-2.0.50.1.13..... is this the issue. It works perfectly on stock 4.4.3 and im rooted. I like the rom but need my phone to work. Any suggesions?

If relevant, does your carrier require anything special? (e.g. Sprint users need to flash a fix for APN or something, I wouldn't know as my carrier doesn't need anything)
Was it working at any point in time while on the ROM, or was it like that on first installation?

I use at&t it worked at first for about an hour then stopped. I think it has something to do with the new 4.4.3 stuff. 4.4.2 was fine.
BTW this also happened to a few people on another custom ROM when they went from 4.4.2 to .3. They had to revert to stop also.

Benefits of flashing stock 4.4.4 rom

Hello,
I am currently running SlimKat stable build 7 with elemental x. My nexus 5 has been unlocked, rooted and been running custom roms since 4.4.1. I have flashed the 4.4.4. Radio recently and it's been working good.
Will i benefit from flashing a stock Rom apart from the Radio?? Will flashing stock fix any bugs I might have even though I'v e been running SlimKat with no problems at all.
Thanks.

I must admit I simply don't understand what you're getting at here. You say Slimkat is running good, why change it? If you go to stock you'll lose features. Most ROMs are about as stable as stock by now anyways.
and radios and roms are completely unrelated. you can flash whatever custom rom, none of them include radios. radios are a separate flash.
Very true. SlimKat at has been really stable for me. Its more of planning for the next Android OS release. Maybe something I'm not seeing or experiencing but might cause problems later on.
Thanks.

This is my point exactly, even though I flashed the radio, it doesn't apply to the Rom and it's features.

I understand I'll lose the features, but maybe there are certain "codes" that the stock Rom has and custom does not.
You are right though, most custom roms are very stable already.

As far as I know, there's no good reason to return to stock. People still on stock generally have had problems in the past with other ROMs and prefer the guaranteed stability of stock. I know Franco one of our kernel developers uses stock with his kernels and his reason given was because it's the only ROM that can support everyone the way he intended and guarantees it works properly.

This is why I am on stock. Seems like everytime I go with a custom ROM I eventually end up getting annoying system UI FCs. Very rarely ever get it on stock. Would love to ask what ROMs are the most stable so I can experiment, but alas that's not allowed so I'll stick with stock, but rooted.

I mean it very well could be my own doing, but the same things I generally did on other ROMs that produced some errors didn't on Rastakat. I guess everyone finds their true ROM in the end, lol.

I'm not familiar with Rastakat, so how is their history with ROM development? I ask because I don't want to flash it and then before long they just stop official development (like what happened with CyanogenMod on my Moto G).

hi i am new to nexus 5 , just wanted to know what is the build date on the offical stock kernel 4.4.4.,mine is mon-mar- 17/ 15.16.36 PDT 2014, could you please tell me if i am on the right version build date , regards joe,

Been a long time since update

The current ROM I have is BoneStockRom V3.3, I like it good enough but looking to see what else is out there. I do NOT want something that I have to flash all the time. I would like something more up to date, stable and has a better radio/signal than what I have now.
know I am asking for many opinions, but I love feedback, so cab you guys give me your thoughts?
THanks

As far as a radio you can update to the latest modem if you'd like which is NE1 without having any issues. I've ran tons of roms on my old S3 but the best by far was slimkat. It's truly up to you what you want but your best bet is to read others opinions

Thanks a ton for the advice. Is this the one you are referring to? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400577
I also have a Note 3 for Verizon, but when I got it it had 4.4.4 and from what I have read, there is not a root for it. I mainly want to root to get rid of the bloatware and get the mobile hotspot freed up. I tried using FoxFi on the Note 3, but that was horrible.
Thanks again.

I have the S3 still simply because it is rooted. I got the Note 3 a few months ago but at that time I did not know that it could not be rooted since it has 4.4.4. I am using the S3 now because it is rooted and I can mess with it. If I could root the Note 3, then I would.
