(Q) how do you know if efs is corrupt - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi just a quick question, just wondering what the tell tale signs of corrupt efs is. I'm a noob about this and seek knowledge, reason I ask is I reflashed stock over stock just because I had battery issues and relocked bootloader etc. But do not have a backup efs, what signs should I look out for if there is any issues.
Thanks

If I lost my imei

I want to flash custom roms but I don't want to be that guy to lose his imei. Now question is. If I backup my stock rom via cwm and flash a rom and get unlucky and lose my imei and then just restore my stock backup will I be okay?

easiest is to just flash synergy. it backs it up for you without doing anything and, in my opinion, an awesome rom to try first anyways
I don't believe restoring your nandroid will fix your imei. You should backup using qpst and also with the flashable zip that synergy has now implemented to be safe
synergy made a script you can flash in cwm to back it up but it's not proven to restore yet since no one has had to

Haha yeha how do you know? I've flashed like a total of three times today and just reverted back to stock. Stock rom still the best for me.. I miss the jelly bean awesomeness from my gnex. Can't wait for it to be stable.

What if! If we always waited for what if we would get no where. Take your chances live life to fullest and just have fun! Take all the precautions and take your licks as they come. This is strong commuity and there is always help here. So go out there and flash some roms and enjoy.

Isn't there a way to also back up using terminal emulator right on your device? I believe the file gets back up right on your SD card and then you can restore from there....

That backs up your EFS partition, block or what ever you want to call it. Restoring that will allow you to get data back but you will always be roaming. I have backed up my EFS, backed up using QPST and did the manual way of backing up Synergy style. You can never be too safe. Synergy is a nice rom but if you don't want to flash it there is directions on how to pull the info that the Synergy script does.

Thanks for the info.
So if you just root and unlock there is nothing to worry about with this I assume? Also, TW ICS Roms should be safe? Is it just when flashing an JB ROM this issue can arise?
Just rooting and unlocking you should be fine. Flashing any ROM has the possibility of losing your IMEI but it seems more prevalent on AOSP ROMs.

Moral of the story is even if you back up your imei your probably gonna be stuck on roaming forever.

So what's the point of backing it up if you lose it and restore it you are still stuck with a roaming device. And not functioning how it should be stock.

I think it shows an R for roaming but you are actually not roaming. So your device supposedly is working, just has a graphical glitch. At least the device works I guess but still sucks and would send back for another one anyway.
Wonder why if this gets screwed they make it impossible to recover from. Even if you bring it to Verizon they can't do anything about it?
If this happens and you have insurance. You 'lost your phone' and get a new one haha

i found an old nandroid backup and i that restore my efs folder so im lucky
On my old phone GT-I9000 aka Galaxy S, to restore an imei you just needed to flahs any stock ROM via ODIN and that will restore your imei. Although I'm not sure if that the case with I9001. Never tried.

I flashed a lot of Stock ROMS to get my imei back ... no one will bring your emei back. Most problems with emei are caused that sometimes on custom roms the baseband is missing. just flash a modem than anf basebabd and emei will be there.
flashing stock is doing the same, it flashes basebend and thats the only thing.
restoring your imei by flashing stock doesn't work!

Hey, did you ever find a resolution for this? I've got the same problem on a Tab 10.1

U8800Pro WIFI & IMEI Problem

Hello, I use is a Huawei U8800Pro and I am currently using CM11 4.4.4 and TWRP 2.7.1.0
Before switching to CM11, I was using the official ICS rom 4.0.3 (B928) which I downloaded from their website.
My WiFi was working perfectly before I flashed ICS 4.0.3 after that, wifi stopped working. I thought flashing CM11 would resolve the issue but it didn't. I later on realized the IMEI of my phone has the last 6 digits wrong.
I also tried flashing stock ROM just the way I used to and it failed.
I am a novice at this and I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me.
Thank you.

your efs partition is jacked up from flashing. hopefully you made a backup before flashing and can restore it, otherwise, i don't know how to fix it.

this should get you started with your imie. use google search to help you find any other parts of efs that need fixing. i dont know how to do it, so thats how im finding this for you.
your imie should be on the box the phone came in and i think its under the battery too, on phones with removable battery.

Yeah, there is absolutely no reason to have an odin flashable rom.
Its a disaster waiting to happen and you have no control over what happens with Odin writing/overwriting the phone partitions.

If it erased your efs, it should be removed from XDA or am I missing something here?
