is there a way to update the firmware of the camera?
Anyone knows the answer?
Can the camera fw be updated?
And more importantly: Did anyone try to hack the camera firmware?

Possibly yes but needs software intervention .... so samsung should update the camera software and do HDR video.

Hi!
Bumping this thread. I am recently experiencing issues with video recording on my note 3. When i go from camera to video recording i get a warning message: recording failed.
Is there a way to update cam fw? Has anyone had this kind of a problem?
Edit: I also cannot use the Dual camera mode. I receive the same error message.
I can take photos but can't record videos.

Camera firmware is grayed out because there is no new firmware. I believe its not related to internet at all. When I had S2 and S3 it worked only when ODIN firmware included new camera firmware. So when you update to new firmware via ODIN, check if update is available

interesting, why the camera firmware does not update with the phone firmware.
Camera Firmware is included in the Odin Firmware itself. Once you flash - If there is a newer firmware in the file system - First time you open the camera, it will update automatically. No need to force an update.
It was manual during S2 and S3 days.
I need to figure out how to extract the Camera Firmware and Put it to a different phone, Because My friend has a Note 3 with a better Camera (Better in terms of Color correction and sharpness) while mine is a lot worse than that, Mine is like the Camera on Note 2 before the 4.3 update. I had the Note 2 and once I updated to 4.3 from 4.2 a Camera Firmware update was initiated and immediately i noticed the difference. That Camera Quality in my Note 2 before the update is now same as the note 3 now. But still I didnt figure out a way to update mine, as I have already updated to ML2 as well.
My guess is the firmware is inside a folder in the system. Been going around root explorer for a few days to locate this folder.

White Note 3 Belongs to my friend, and the Black one is mine. The difference is clearly visible, How it recognizes white under artificial lighting and how it recognizes the color red. The red color looks more vibrant in the White Note 3.

Extract the Attached zip file and paste the 3 files to System/apps/ with correct permissions. You will get the option to make changes to Camera firmware. However So far, I couldn't locate a proper Camera Firmware file.

These files already exist in the folder system/apps/
What are you suggesting to do?
Yeap, they are existing files alright. Just paste the 3 files over yours, then reboot (run the camera fw code - *#34971539#) and notice that the greyed out options become accessible. That's what I have displayed in the first three screenshots. Maybe all three files are not required, but since they carry the same icon im guessing its all related. Im no dev, just a regular android end user. So far I managed to unlock the options, but the firmware, I couldn't locate inside my system. Im running MK2, and still it says the default firmware is the same as my existing camera firmware.
These 3 files are from a "different kind of a Note 3" which is not easily accessible. So I'm guessing these options are unlocked due to "that reason"

Hi there,
After spending like a month trying any camera app (paid and free) yesterday night I discovered that the new KitKat Camera 4.4.1 (which has been improved to support better pics on Nexus 5) seems to deliver great shots in all conditions; especially in night scenes, on day light is on par with manual (everything auto).
So from today I'm starting to use this as a daily camera.
Since I'm tired of claims without proof, here some comparisons (left kitkat, right stock):

Indoor the result is even better for kitkat but since I had not time to make a real comparison... sorry.
You can download:
Kitkat 4.4.1 Camera App
Kitkat 4.4.2 Camera App
I suggest to disable kitkat gallery because editing (with filters) doesn't work, and so instead will use the beautiful Stock Album.
p.s. I have not a tripod, so in night mode I tried several times to make a shot in auto without having a blur effect, I can't do better than this -.-'

I'm unable to do that since it needs libs and frameworks. You could try to unzip and test just the camera apk.
will make some comparesment tommorow via stock camera, this kitkat one and best camera app shown somewhere here. For now this last app has far greater results than built in stock one. Which is sad. And good at the same time.

I have tried and found that that application layout is broken. The control buttons of the Kakit Camera are on half display and overwritten by the navigation menu. I am running the stock ROM with Dual Recovery. I am still testing it, but the image quality looks similar to stock camera for me.

For the layout, you're right, tested now, I didn't noticed it before because my keys are hidden (since I'm using pie).
Btw in daylight they are pretty close (which is good), you should try it where the auto-mode fails for example in low lights.
can u provide the new 4.4.2 camera with libs?
the buttons is behind the nav bar how to fix?

I've tried changing the time stamps but nothing seems to work. Can someone upload to another host? or shed light on what to do with the time stamps?
I don't see any info regarding an update anywhere on the web. You would think someone would write about it.
Hey,
I'll try to reverse the update process over the next days, it seems it requires more than just valid timestamp to receive the valid download.
This update is an OTA update and does not contain the full system image. Mounting the rootfs fails, I think it's more likely an incremental patch file or similar.
Nevertheless, you can easily sniff it yourself. Just make sure you use an on-device sniffer because Samsung uses a technique to bypass proxies.
Once set-up, start the Gear Manager on your phone and search for an update for your watch.
Furthermore I requested the open-source parts of the Gear S2 at Samsung. They made available the files for the last firmware here:
opensource.samsung.com - search for SM-R720
Best regards,
- S

It's more likely for research. Normally you simply update via the Gear Manager. Nevertheless it should be possible to upload the file via Odin as well.
There is a new version of it called NetOdin especially for non USB devices like this.

is this firmware update worth side loading? I don't think people on "Non Supported" devices will be able to get the update normally, so this might be the only option.

I agree, I did not notice any major changes after the update.
As said, this is for research purpose in my view. The update *should* only be applied via the official Samsung Gear app. This update file is for the Classic Bluetooth EU version btw.
Anyway, since the files seem to be patches and not a full OS, we might not go too far with this. Mounting does not work for me, so rooting can not be applied to it, yet
If someone finds the full firmware somehow (maybe call Samsung and pretend a brick?), let us know

Interesting, someone succsessfully testet this update? I am quite interessted in this Version because of my US Version of my S2 classic. Can I overwrite es US setting for the metric system and my anguage s-voice?
I can't really deal with that fahrenheit degree.
Does this update fix the notification issues? The issues I see is when the watch doesn't show the always on screen it will not vibrate when notifications come in.
I just got the update on my s2 sport and have not really noticed any differences. It said performance so maybe the battery life will be a little better than what it already is! I'll keep playing with it to see if there are any changes I'm missing.
Got the update last night and so far, no real changes. There is susposed to be an update in November to enable Samsung Pay. Can't see that this update has that.
I can confirm that I have repeatedly been able reconnect my S2 to my Nexus 5 on Marshmallow after I installed the S2 firmware update that was available in the USA in the Gear app under the About Gear settings. I went from firmware version R720XXU2AOIL to R720XXU2AOJ3. I found that even after installing the firmware, I had to do one Light Reset on the S2 before the S2 would reconnect.
So far so good. Have intentionally gone out of range 6 times and reconnected all 6 times. Will report back if situation changes.
There is a firmware update available for the watch from the gear manager. My update was 5.30MB in size and says it has bug fixes.

Problems...
Hi @Gaurav007.
A few problems I've noticed using the new ROM you posted on the T2U thread:
Whenever I open a Sony Stock App (Music, Album, etc.), com.sonyericsson.illumination.service FCs. This seems to stop the proximity sensor from working, meaning that the app Gravity Screen no longer works... (I use the proximity sensor On/Off a lot)
When I start the phone, a message appears about closing the waterproofing covers on the phone... (As I'm sure you know, that's an error from the Z2, not from the C3/T2U...)
Camera can be opened by pressing the camera button, but the icon in the app drawer makes it FC.
Other than that, The new ROM works perfectly... No Bluetooth FCs, the only problem was installing the thing. AROMA doesn't work with Lollipop, I'd recommend that you just post 2 zips, Deodexed and Deodexed+Debolated... Because I've tried many AROMA zips and none of them work with eitherof the XZDR variants... (PhilZ or TWRP)
Thanks for the new version though.
P.S: Ive posted this on the T2U thread too, just in case...

Proposed Camera Fix: Don't use the Sony camera. it (obviously) has many problems. I'm currently using Open Camera (Which, by the way @AutumQueen92 , decreases the camera blur!) and it works fine. Only thing I miss is the Sony camera effects, but it's a price to pay for a working camera...

Lel, I've been using it since the day I found the blur problem. It fixes *slightly* but still annoys me to no end. I've asked the dev about it and he/she says most likely it was the camera driver issue so no luck on his/her end for a full fix.

Funnily enough, just looking through my old photos from KitKat, and comparing the quality to what I now have on open camera with Lollipop, the quality has actually INCREASED! I'm very surprised...
@AutumQueen92 If you say your camera is blurry, then maybe it's just a problem with your phone... Maybe manufacturing error or some error with your data... Can you download the Hong Kong 5.1.1 ftf and try that? (That's what I'm on, South Africa is still stuck on KitKat) If that doesn't work, try format /data. And include internal storage in the format. Should have the same effect as unlocking/locking your BL, but without actually doing anything to the BL. I dunno just try it, see what happens...

Thats only in reference to file system permissions.
I'm talking about the new android app permission found in marshmallow and nougat. Check it out here: https://www.howtogeek.com/230683/how-to-manage-app-permissions-on-android-6.0/

APP CRASHES ON VIDEO RECORDING. iF YOU PAUSE THE RECORDING APP CRACHES. ON ALL THE AOSP ROM 7.1 THAT I HAVE TRIED. DEVICE MOTO G 2014
Hello friend, latest version is crashing when trying to activate HDR. Once activated the camera doesn't open anymore until I clear its app data and reopen.
My phone is the moto x style xt1572. I'm running latest LineageOS build.
This is the only problem I noticed.
Can you please make it work on Galaxy note3 sm-n900 on lineageos 7.1.1?
I tried it but get fc when turn it to video camera

Hi everyone,
I flashed this app a few weeks ago and everything works fine. But today my security app (lockout security) said, this camera app would be a “risk app“ because of a bad and risky code. What's going on? Anybody else with this message?
Thanks for your feedback...
any advise how to make the panorama feature work? i can't seem to launch it both in my s3 and n3 phones for some reason. it would just force close when selected.
The camera is really good! It made my Redmi 3 Pro photos much better with HDR on.
I just have one problem: when HDR is on, two pictures are taken at once. One is the final HDR product (good quality) while the other looks like without HDR (so really poor in case of Xiaomi).
Can you fix it please? I've searched through app's data folder but all I found is an .xml config file including all settings available from GUI (sadly nothing more).

This app work in my oreo rom but it will force close if you open the app in dim,low and no lighting environment. i also notice it force close if i change the flash on the back camera setting to on instead of auto. hope they can fix this problem in the next release apart from that it works well.
hi
can i install it on lileage 14.1 on i9100 ?
hello could you make that camera compatible with aosp oreo? because I have a galaxy j7 2016 with oreo dotos and the one I have is for nougat that is yours, because in oreo it does not open, if I have lineageos 14.1 if it works but since I have 8.1.0 it does not work for me, some way that you do so work in oreo? Thank you
Ok
Factory reset or reflash stock firmware through Odin.
Good news for all of us!! Now mi 4c long exposure tweaks available up to 16s.
This tweak can only be used in manual mode, and make the auto mode can not be used. So the range of the camera application can not be in use. So you guys can only use manual mode only.
This tweak only works on MIUI ROM.
And for the current tweaks can only be used on a sensor imx258_sunny instead of imx258. To find out the check in the hardware info by pressing the kernel version several times and then select check version info then you will find some information like this.

It says that camera2 API can be enabled on MIUI Nougat (so you can have long exposure), but the image is flipped.

On Miui based on Lollipop in hardware info it was information that I have imx258 sunny but on Nougat there is no "sunny" anymore. What the hell?

ROM effect bro :v
As HackTube has mentioned - it's ROM effect - I decided to try the mod.. Still no fun for me.. only 1/2s. So it looks like I definitely don't have sunny on my Nougat MIUI

Can anyone help me with my redmi note 4x? It have the same sensor imx258 ofilm
Hi,
I am using Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon) which have the same sensor Sony IMX258
But in device information my back camera hardware is Ofilm IMX256. Can you please help me out. I bought redmi note 4 hoping that it would have long exposure but it is only 0.5s exposure. I have managed to get manual exposure settings and enabling camera 2 api but can't do anything else without camera driver.
Can you please make camera driver for Ofilm IMX256. or if I could use the library files you provided for Mi4c *IMX258.so or *IMX256_sunny.so

Thanks. @defcomg already tried to help me. (in miui thread, but then he got busy I guess) He sent me test lib files. When I tried those I saw 12 s exposure setting on manual camera setting but as soon as I press shutter button camera app freeze and I have to force stop it. Couldn't even take normal picture with low exposure time. It is doable but it will just take time. I hope someone figure out soon. I desperately need that mod because redmi note 4 camera is already amazing! If I could take long exposure shots with that one then I would be perfect.
Even tho I am not pro coder (I know only enough programing and assembly language to understand a code little bit) I tried IDM Disassembler and try to compare both modded and original lib file. I could find only one instance where variable was taking some value from code for max exposure value. But in modified file it was assigned directly 120000000 value to that variable. Somehow I did that same changes but nothing happened. Then I stopped trying. Please someone help!!!

No. Mi 4 has different sensor - IMX214. This mod is for IMX258. But if I remember, in the Internet is mod for Mi4 with 32s exposure.
