Just wondering since I am looking to trade my lg g2. Just want to get some feedback from actual owners.
The battery in the G2 is nice, but that's about it. Performance is similar and the camera in the G2 is probably better, but I only use my phone to snap quick pics, not as an SLR so I can't really tell.

nope, the G2 is nice, but it's not really an upgrade... at least not in my opinion.
I think it's a what you intend to do with it
I'm a n00b and got the N5 to start learning how to modify Android phones. A buddy of mine got the G2 and loves it but doesn't want to mess with it. I haven't checked any of the G2 forums so I'm not sure how easy it is to modify.

In my opinion the sound quality is bad. I have the g2, s4 and the nexus 5 right here on the table and the G2 and s4 are better. The only thing I like about the nexus is the price and it feels better in my hands. The battery isn't to bad but it's not good either. The people who say the battery is better then the s4 are lying lol but its not bad tho. My G2 is my daily driver now

No regrets since the G2 comes at about $200 more without a contract. and if you want it cheap you have to get a contract...its a lose lose
althought I only have about 6 more months on my AT&T 2yr contract and I thought about upgrading to the G2 to keep my unlimited data and contract...
Nexus 5 (Black, 32GB)
Rom: Purity (11/20)
Kernel: Franco r14
Ordered the Nexus 5 the day it came out, used it for a week and then got an LG G2 given to me as part of my job, used it for 24 hours and was then back to my Nexus, only thing nice about the G2 was the battery life & now it just sits collecting dust until it gets sold. Nexus 5 > G2

i was on the n5 and got a deal for on a g2 which i went for. less than a week later i sold it and got an N5 again. IMO screen, camera and battery were nicer on the G2, but even that couldnt make up for the horrible LG UI. ugly and slow.

Save the stress and buy a Galaxy Nexus. I can honestly say I've fallen in love with the stability and screen of this phone. It is the smoothest thing I've ever used. I'm using AOKP Jelly Bean on it. Take my word for it. Buy the Galaxy Nexus and get an OtterBox Commuter case for it. You will not regret it. Trust me, best phone by far. You can't go wrong with a pure Google device. Also to clear things up if you are unsure...YES, 4g does work on T-Mobile and At&t. The data does not drop, it is an amazing feeling to be honest. With this LG I dropped data all the time. The camera on the Nexus is way better as well. You wont regret getting this phone. It is well worth the new low price.

I'm really tempted to just drop my G2X and get a GNex, especially cause it just went on sale for $300 outright on one of the carriers up here in Canada (Mobilicity). I'd love me some JB but something's telling me to wait for the next nexus. You always want the latest and greatest when you get a smartphone right?
Anyone else feeling torn like this?

Same issue here. I'm debating getting the phone from mobilicity as well. Only problem is I could probably barely get $100 out of this phone. And with the MIUI V4 port it made the phone a whole lot better. MMS+Data works now. I get the occasional drop...
It's a tough decision.

The Nexus 7 is great as a tablet, but it's not a phone and it cannot fit in my pocket. I need data when I'm out and about, and Wifi is not available when I need it most. I'll just sit tight. I wouldn't call it outdated though, at least not for me. I've been on an Optimus V on Virgin Mobile's terrible network where data seldom works anywhere. I'm hoping my new (to me) G2x lasts me till I can find a good deal on a Sensation or another good used phone.
Agree with the OP. I just sold my G2x. Picked up the new Nexus about a month ago. Great phone. I don't even bother with any roms or kernels. JB just works out of the box. All I did was unrooted it to run few programs that need it and I could not be happier.
Very disappointed with LG and the G2x. It was my first android and the experience was awful.

Isn't the Nexus camera only 5 MP compared tot he G2x's 8 MP camera. I could care less either way as I don't take many pictures or even care THAT much about that small of a difference in the quality of the picture. I do plan on getting Nexus soon because I've been over the G2x after a month of owning it.

I'd love to get the Galaxy SIII or maybe even the One X, but those phones are ONLY affordable for most people if you sign a new contract. I'm not eligible for upgrade until July of next year so I don't have any optioons but the Nexus if I want a new phone. I'm not made of money and don't have $350, but I'm aiming at getting the Nexus in October. I'm going to set aside $150 from my check in September, and then just pay the rest of it in October.

True, but that's the cheapest you're going to get a new phone out of contract that's actually a good phone. My plan is just to put aside some cash, get the Nexus, use my G2x as a backup phone, and then I want to try a Windows 8 phone once my contract is up and then I'll just hope for the best.

Except that most of us use and need phones, not tablets. I rather have a phone tha does everything than have a tablet that does everything but make calls and texts. Although I AM very tempted to get a Nexus 7. I just can't justify its purchase. If I had a better phone other than the G2x, though, I'd probably just splurge and get the Nexus 7.

I was on Virgin Mobile here in California with that same phone before switching to T-Mobile and getting the G2x and I was VERY happy with the service. Data was great except for one area of one city that I never go to anymore since I no longer live around there. I was not satisfied wtih T-Mobile's service and the G2x based on my experience with the Optimus V on Virgin. T-Mobile isn't noticibly faster on data speeds and my Optimus V had instant GPS locks every single time and we all know how bad the GPS is on the G2x. My experience on Virgin Mobile is why I plan on moving to Sprint once my contract is over with T-Mobile.

I'm sorry it was your first experience, but happy you're staying and that it didn't scare you away from Android. It's my third Android (had Optimus M followed by the Optimus V followed by the G2X). It was because of a positive expeirence with both those two other Optimus devices that I made the foolish mistake of sticking with LG. I trusted them and I was let down. Big time. If it wasn't for the dev community here, the G2x is seriously garbage as a phone. The Optimus V easily performs better with worse hardware and an arguably worse carrire.

It totally depends where you live. Here in Denver Verizon is king, but T-mobile has faster data speeds than Verizon. Sprint and AT&T aren't very good here. On VM most of the time data does not work and I can sometimes call out when in buildings like Walmart, Target, etc. The Optimus V was an excellent beginner phone to using Android and I love Android because of it. But I need a reliable data connection for work so VM has to go. I refuse to pay Verizon's insane monthly prices and I'll never use them. AT&T claims to have spent a few million on network upgrades here recently so I don't know if that's helped anything.

Good point. from what I understand, the only reason why Google stop supporting the Nexus S, is because it did not have enough RAM. Google is pretty good on their software updates on their older flagships. I think this is a good buy..
if worse comes to worst, I can always sell the phone for a pretty good price. I notice these Nexus phone hold their value very well.

If the Nexus 5 wasn't just about to be released and I wasn't an upgrade-aholic, the Nexus 4 would be my go-to phone. It's that good.
You probably should have asked this in the Nexus 4 forum.
It's a Nexus, Google will support it for more than another year. They only stopped supporting the two earliest Nexus since it lacks the hardware to run the new OS and ability to receive such large over the air updates (low ram and too small /system partition to hold the system files). The Nexus 4 is a powerful device I wouldn't be surprised if it'll get updates for atleast 2 more years. If it wasn't for needing the best spec or playing high graphical games, the Nexus 4 will probably work fine for another 3 years. It still get Android version earlier than any other non-Nexus devices, although the battery life and camera quality might not be up to standard anymore. Gaming is only a problem because of the thermal throttling which kicks in at 39*C, but if you flash custom kernel you can raise it to 60*C or higher.
The Nexus 4 does have Band 4 LTE that works with T-Mobile if you flash the LTE compatible baseband.
The Galaxy Nexus is still being supported by Google as of now, so I think the Nexus 4 will be good for quite a while.

I'm getting the N5. My GF has a crappy HTC One VX and I got her a Nexus 4 16GB for 240 out the door. She is paying me the difference after I sell her VX.
I know there is no LTE on the N4 but She doesn't use much mobile data... She only has 300 mb on her plan.
I'm going to be flashing CarbonRom and Franco kernel on it and let her tinker with it. Shes starting to get into this android thing lolol. She rooted her locked bootloader Samsung tablet herself lol.
After taxes and shipping the N5 would come out to about 400 bucks. That's 160 more than the N4...
Now the main question is, how does the N4 compare to new phones out now? Does it still hold it's own? Was this a good buy for her? I mean we are trying to keep costs down for her.
Mind you, I have never even held a N4. Its still in the mail

Where did I say I'm "making" her pay me back?
You must be mistaken. She wants the Nexus 4 and doesn't want to go through the hassle of selling her current phone: so ill sell it for her. She is buying her own phone with her own cash. Her VX is irritating her. I'm just doing all the buying and selling and moneywork.
Well I have some news: she decided to get the Nexus 5 as well. I sold the Nexus 4 on craigslist and made profit.

That is a pretty general question that is hard to answer, because it is depends on what you value. The simple answer is that the N5 is basically one-year newer in terms of the hardware inside, has a little bigger screen, and supports 4g LTE. There are a lot of other minor differences, so I suggest googling Nexus 5 vs Nexus 4, because there are a few articles already out there that discuss the differences. More impressions will probably follow as more people get their hands on the Nexus 5.
Either device can do all the cool smartphone stuff you could want them to do right now, but the Nexus 5 will be a little more future-proof since the hardware in it is a year newer and it will get system updates longer. Whether that and the other differences are worth the $100 difference is up to you.
Of course get the newer phone ... what a silly question

If you like/need latest and greatest, or any of the features unique to the N5 are must-haves, then go for it. If not, the N4 is still a fantastic device and will be for a few years yet, and may save you some money. A good condition N4 can be had for about half the price of a new N5.
I find the screen to be the perfect size for me. I did have a note 2 which was too big. I really like the size of this phone.

Well, I'd say you can hardly get a totally unbiased opinion in here since most of us are here for the Nexus 5. We wont even know it if we're being biased. How about get some opinion from tech media such as Cnet, Engadget, etc. Oh, dont go to The Verge, cause that's iVerge.

i think i'll go with nexus 5, but some friends told me is good the HTC one too, which do you prefer within nexus 5 and htc oe?
also do you advice the 16 gb nexus 5 black/white or the 32 gb nexus 5 black/white? is the 32 gb really worth or 16 gb is enogh??
@killomp if your going to get the HTC ONE, Just wait for the second Gen. The NX5 is better then OG ONE in almsot every way behinds viewing angle and possible light bleed and not being made of aluminum (the one is also an uncomfortable tall device to hold IMHO)

I'd say definitely go for Nexus 5. The best Nexus phone you can get at the moment.

SO, to put it in perspective, you've pretty much got better everything. I like the Nexus 4. It's got a great feel to it but the glass back kind of puts me off (even though it was fixed in later models). It's got last year's best tech whereas the nexus 5 has this year's best tech or pretty much about as good as you'd need it really...
For me, when you take hardware out, I think the Nexus 5 has a much better feel. It's slightly curved back is really enjoyable and comfortable as opposed to the Nexus 4's flat back. I prefer the matte finish instead of the Glass back. It's also a lot more low profile. I personally prefer the Nexus 5 a lot more. Better hardware and a more comfortable feel for me.
Basically it really comes down to your budget. They're both entirely usable phones with great hardware that is more than sufficient for running pretty much anything. If you feel you could blow that extra $100 then by all means, go for the Nexus 5. But you can't go wrong with the Nexus 4 either

I just saw your last post
The HTC One is beautiful. Just got about the most premium feel to any phone i've seen. But I'm pretty sure the HTC One will cost a lot more dollars than the Nexus 5 or Nexus 4. In Canada at least, it's like $300-$400 CAD difference
If you can afford it, get the LG G2 instead. It's similar to N5 but with much better battery life
Any regrets? wish u would of stayed with your older phone ?

none at all. I have kept my older phone as a music player (nexus s). I love the nexus 5. My only regret is I couldn't get the 32gb version. But I will make do!

Nope. My Legend deserved the rest and I'm loving the Nexus.
I think depending on how much you paid for it. Stateside is pretty good value.. Euro side not so much imo.
Nope, I came from a Moto Atrix... Living with a giant middle finger from Motorola. Used as many custom roms as I could to keep it relevant, but that thing to me was basically treated as DOA. The most expensive, ignored, bastard child of modern smartphones I've ever bought... I paid $1000 for it outright day 1 when I was working in S.Korea. Somewhat ahead of it's time, but treated like garbage.
Will not purchase another Moto phone... which is kind of odd considering I own the godsend from mother Google.
Now if Moto makes a Nexus, not quite sure what I'll do... I've blacklisted Motorola.
Could get a nice deal with Tele2 so went for it.
Cheap subscription, lots of minutes, and a nice phone.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Nexus 5 met Tapatalk 4
My old phone was a Nexus S, and although that was immense, no i don't regret it.
Had my head turned by the HTC One and if the Moto X was available here that would get a look in, but would still probably go for the N5.
Come from galaxy s4 Did not regret a second of it I should have skipped the s4 and come from the nexus s straight
no regret
I regret not getting a Note 3, but then again I did purchase this device outright at less than 2/3 the price of a Note 3, and there are tremendous amounts of development already available considering how new this device is.
I think I lose and gain some. Battery life however would technically still be better on the Note 3, but I ain't really complaining here since I'm not really getting wakelocks. I do miss the big screen however and the more vibrant display I did gain superb call quality and call volume however

Well, I came from owning a Note 2 for about 8 months. I'd say wait for Note 4. No reason to jump phones so many times so soon. This phone is quite well for the price.

well im elegible for an upgrade now.. And was thinking about getting a phone sell it so i can pay my credit card bill from the nexus 5... But not sure if i should return the nexus and just buy a note 3/s4 which imo will have a better sell price when new phones come out...
I think the nexus will sell used for $200 where the samsungs will probably be around 300-350
Basically for me both of them are the same price...
This is easily the best phone I've ever owned and having stock Android that is not some skinned-and-never-updated crap is a godsend. I've always put ROMs on my other Android phones before but I really don't think I will on this one.
Not one regret at ALL. @ OP why even sign another contract? Wonder how underwater you are with your car loan
good day.
Nope, didn't want to buy a cell phone until next year but my Galaxy Nexus started having issues. Love the Nexus 5 so far!
Yes, I have some regrets. The battery life doesn't feel much better than my GNex and I wish the screen was bigger. Not saying I don't want to keep it, I'm just not sure. Maybe with the right kernel and apps it will be perfect. Or maybe I should've gotten a G2. I just don't know how the ROMs on that would turn out, and I like having wireless charging.
Hello
What i care about most is music (earphones) quality, ability to theme, good camera and beautiful screen. I am not a gamer. Willing to use custom roms.
So, if you were me, whitch phone you'd choose?

Galaxy has the best DAC for audio but the slowest phone to use. I wouldn't get any of them now as they're all old.

Well you just asked if "you were me" and that's what i'd do. If there are limitations, you will need to set them out in your first post
I'm not sure asking a group of people who had that very choice and came away with a Nexus 5 will get a very rounded response
Most places I would say the Nexus 5 is still the cheapest and certainly faster than the S4. The reason I'm not that keen on the G2 is the LG software...

none of these phones are "old" by any means. They're all quad core and 2GB RAM.
Which means they're going to last for another 3 years.
The S5 has a larger bezel and same size screen as the LG G2. So it's pointless.
The LG G3 is the only "non old" phone available in that it's the only one that upgraded hardware.
OP, I would get the Nexus 5 or the LG G2 (use root and xposed to change the skins...or aftermarket rom, problem is there aren't many options). That would be one reason to go for the S4-- plenty of ROM support to get rid of the bloat.
The LG G2 I want for the dt2w aka knockon/off without 2% battery drain/hour, and the larger screen, and the larger battery. Using Immersive mode with pie controls though is good enough on my Nexus 5 for the screen, but the 5.2" on the LG G2 in the same package as the Nexus5 is really nice.
The larger battery I really really want, About 4.5hr screen on time is all I get and I'm tired of disabling 2 cores and underclocking to 1.7ghz to get 5.5-6.5hr screen on time
Hardware wise they're all practically identical.
The DAC may be better but nobody can notice 5% THD in bass response. I can't believe people even bring it up these days. Education, I guess.

I would pick the g2 but I'm happy with the n5.
The phones may have been released somewhere 6 months ago but here in Canada the s5 is maybe a month or 2 ago the others a few months. Not old at all.
People here get really crazy about what they consider old. I remember you from the HTC desire days Suroot. I still have that phone too.

So do I
I wouldn't say it's crazy. In the UK on contract we're expected to keep a flagshship phone for 24 months. Thats a long time in the Android world and most. OEMs don't give official after 18-24 months and development really slows down and suffers after that point.. That's why I always try to get the absolute newest phone possible that meets my criteria.. If I get a phone thats 6 months old, I may only have a year of updates which makes year 2 an unpleasant experience.
It was 36 months here in Canada until this year they changed the law. My friend kept his desire for 40 months and he bought it when it was 6 months old.
It still ran fine but never got any updates and he just didn't know what he was missing. Never had a smartphone before so he was happy no matter what.

Rogers in Canada ticked me off bad enough....I paid 800 to leave them. (Took my sweet time paying them) and paid cash for a moto x. Then passed that awesome, but boring phone, to my wife and paid cash for an N5. Never again will I do a contract.
Of course I won't be buying brand new flagships either....maybe used once they're out awhile.
---------- Post added at 12:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:31 PM ----------
350 of that was for an 18 month old S2....that was worth a hundred bucks at best at that point. Nope....cash only from now on. Lol

Touchwiz and all the Samsung bloat are a horrible mess. Lag. I have had an s2 since it came out, and my daughter has a gtab3. . I'll never buy a phone again that I HAVE to root, debloat and possibly flash a ROM JUST to make it smooth. The Gtab3 came out if the box a laggy nightmare. After rooting, deviating severely, its not too bad. Tho my N7 2012 dances circles around it.
Just my experience and opinion tho. To each their own.
The price of the Nexus 5 makes it my choice. We are currently in a bit of a technology slump. By purchasing a cheaper phone like the Nexus 5, you have a cheaper/sooner option to upgrade when the next benchmark comes out (which I personally dont think will be for a year or so).
