Hello,
I just want to check on the best way to get my phone back to stock before sending back. The phone is on now but I don't want to risk turning it off and not getting it back on in it's rooted state with a custom ROM. If I do a re-boot and hold down on the volume with the menu down will it go into download mode? Can someone check without using the power button?
I see the another option is the mobile odin. The last option could be to flash stock rom, unroot, lock bootloader. I want to minimize risk here.
Thanks
I think I am SOL now. I tried to boot into download it kept turning off. I pulled the battery and it came back on but every time I get to download mode it turned off. SO then I try the mobile oden and what does that do? Tried to boot into oden and it flashed it's own kernel so it won't boot fully until it finishes it's flash. I try to boot into recovery and it just turns off again the same as download because the power button is stuck on.
I took the phone apart and pulled the outside power button out and put the battery back in and it immediately boots to download mode and turns off again because its stuck on.
Worst part as soon as you put in the battery it boots to download and it says custom right on it. Any other ideas? If I disable the power button being stuck on how will I turn it on? Man, 4 droid phones rooted and I think this might be the one that takes me down
Mine is stuck, so when I put the battery in it will turn on automatically. I flash about once or twice a month so what i do is pull out the battery and as soon as i put it back in I hold the button combo to which i want to go to. Vol up and home for recovery or volume down for download mode. You should check out the unroot method in the Stickies
I got it now.

I tried to put in the mod for the circle battery and the evo black bar on top of just having the circle battery in already.. minus the black bar mod. I went to update it from recovery mode, it turns on with the ATT and the Galaxy S screen... then just goes black. Not sure what to really do about this other then messing with any more mods after this.
I tried Recovery Mode and deleting everything and then rebooting it... it did nothing.
this happened to me too... 3 times actually.
Not really sure what causes the problem, but at this point you're gonna have to reflash the firmware. Use the Odin oneclick downloader to reflash to stock, then odin v1.0 to flash to what ever firmware you had on before.
In order to do this, you have to put your phone into recovery mode. First open up odin one click downloader. Next, hold the volume up and down button (if your on the i9000 firmware, just hold down the down volume button) and insert the usb. after a few seconds, a new screen should pop up saying it's in download mode. (the screen should say "download, do not turn off target!!!") then hit start on odin.
When you do the black bar/battery update, make sure you re-download it, put it into your sdcard, then rename it. DO NOT reinstall an update that you've already installed. this will also screw up the firmware.
download mode was a bit trickery for me to get into.....
here are my steps...
Open Odin3 and get the pit file and pda tar file inputted.
then plug your phone into usb.
turn on the phone to just the charging graphic...
from there hold the vol up nad vol down buttons and then hold the power button.
The graphic should disappear, let go of power when screen goes black and then it should go into "download mode"
it took me over 2 hours the other night to get into download mode.
Well I got it into Download mode and on Odin it's saying File analysis and do not turn off target... so I guess that means it's working?
Well I think I just bricked it for good now. I had it in download mode, it started to reset everything and the screen turned green for a little while, I thought something was wrong when that happened so I just took the battery out again to turn it off... now it won't even turn back on.
I did this update to froyo before this and nothing happen. This time before the update finished, the power supply of my desktop suddenly turn off. everything goes to zero. i tried to restart my phone, but the screen still "downloading". I have to force it to off by pull out the battery.
when i try to turn on my phone, it failed. no screen at all. i pressed everything but still cannot on.
Please help. I'm using Odin Downloader.
Can the phone get into download mode ?
Press vol down and power while it is turned off
You should get a download mode screen
Flash a stock rom with odin

does vol down + power + home(just the three) work
if yes
flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com(if you remember which one you had you can flash that back)
Even if the key combo i gave doesnt work
Connect your g3 to charger and let it charge for a while
If you get some icon (battery ) there can be some hope for recovering your device
You told it displays no screen so probably its a brick
Best would be to go to a samsung service center(if you have warranty) and make up a story(phone switched off on call and then this happened etc. etc.)
My power button decides to become unresponsive.
So I tried to unroot my phone and bring it back to a stock image and when I go into download mode, 2 seconds later, it turns off. :crying:
I try another method by using mobile odin to see if that helps. Tried to flash the stock image and it tried to reboot to Recovery mode. Nothing. It stays in a black screen after the samsung galaxy s3 logo. After pulling the battery, it tries to reboot to recovery again and still, a black screen. The only way to stop it from booting to recovery is to set it back to download mode. I hold the power button and it restarts. ( The power button seems to work when I try to go to recovery, download, power on.
I am running Cleanrom 6.0 R2.
I am in deep [email protected]#!. I do not want to go to verizon and notice my phone is rooted and I can't fix it without a huge bill.
Please help if possible
Sorry for the long title but it states my predicament. Basically my power button is done and I can't boot into recovery anymore. It just is a endless cycle of reboots(vibrates everyone 15 seconds or so). I even tried to enter download mode, which it does but than restarts the bootloop issue. Anyhow, I've never used ODIN so someone please fill me in. I want to ODIN back to stock because it's my last hope and basically I can't get into recovery anymore anyway. But do I need to use my power button to ODIN? Also what if I can't get into ODIN mode because it just wants to continue to reboot. Any help? I'm at a lost here.
Oops, wrong section. Mods can you please move to Q&A...sorrrry.

Moved to Q and A. I suggest pulling your battery for at least thirty minutes or maybe an hour. Then put the battery back in(do not power on) and plug the phone into your charger and allow it to charge overnight. From what you have said the power button does indeed work but you have done something to your phone causing a boot loop. In the morning search XDA for Odin procedures (there are a plethora of them on XDA) and attempt your Odin to stock. If the phone continues to boot loop I hope you have insurance... I did this to my LG Optimus once... And couldn't save it...

It does "work" but not correctly. Apparency its a known issue and called SDS. basically the way it acts is that when I press the button, the phone
Is acting as if I pressed it twice. So I press it to turn screen off, screen comes right back on. Long press power button for reboot menu, flashes, dissapears and than comes right back. This I believe is why I can't boot into recovery or download mode. Not that the phones bricked, but the phone is having trouble recognizing power button hits.
So my last try was to Odin back to stock just to see if that helps. But when I hold the buttons down to get into download mode or select it in reboot menu, it boots into it real quick(I see download mode appear on screen) but than immediately starts looping. So when I use Odin, will it automatically boot into download mode for me? What about mobile Odin?

I had the same problem With my s3... It was out of warranty so I sent it to mobile tech videos to have the power switch repaired. It's been great ever since. I realize that doesn't really Answer your question about Odin, just figured I'd chime in with what I had to do. I was afraid to attempt to Odin or flash anything before the repair bc in my mind the phone believed the power button was being pressed repeatedly and that would make it interrupt the flash.
Also if you're under warranty, Samsung will most likely fix it despite being rooted. Mobile Tech Videos sounds like a great option too if you're out of warranty, glad to see there's an alternative way to get it fixed.

I don't have the phone in question but for my Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S, T-mo variant) if you press and hold the Volume Up button while plugging in the charger or say your computer's USB port the phone will boot into download mode. Not sure if it will work for the S3 though. Hopefully it does! :fingers-crossed:
Also, for my work around, I've mapped the Volume up button within ROMs to 'POWER WAKE' to replace the power button. It's not needed but its an easy way to reboot to recovery if its implemented in the Roms power menu. Occasionally the phone will crash or the battery may die. If I'm at home, that's an easy fix, just boot up download mode and flash a kernel/modem/recovery via odin and make sure auto reboot is selected. The phone should boot, granted there are no errors. The only problem I have is when it crashes or battery dies and I'm not at home I can't turn on the phone. If anyone knows a way around powering on or booting into recovery without the use of the power button or odin/download mode I will be eternally grateful. I'm try to get my Vibrant in working order for my father whose never had a Smart phone. I myself have upgraded to the s4 and am glad I stuck with what I knew instead of getting the HTC One. =]

Read this thread. Power button issues on S2 might help and save you time and money. Or if you want to get into download mode use adb.. "adb reboot download " or can be done in terminal.

Hi Guys,
Trying to figure out what I did wrong here... So i have a Samsung s6 with xtrestolite ROM, I wanted to flash back to stock, so i went into download mode, downloaded the stock recovery and flashed it via AP on Odin. The phone rebooted after the 'pass' message, then stayed stuck on the loading screen, wouldn't turn off, I had to open the phone and pull the battery. Now it won't turn on whatsoever, if i plug it in to charge, the charge graphic comes on, and then if i press and hold power it goes to the loading screen, but nothing else.
Holding VolDown+Home+Power wont get me into download mode, even if i hold the buttons for a good few minutes... any thoughts?

Firstly, when you are stuck on the Samsung logo, you need to hold volume down, home button and power at the same time until it brings you to the download mode screen. Second of all, if you want to go back to stock, you don't flash the stock recovery.. You download the firmware for your EXACT device model from websites such as Sammobile., then flash it using Odin And the last thing you want to do is remove the back. If you are still stuck in the current situation; while it is powered off, hold power, home button, and volume down and go into download mode. Then download the flash the EXACT firmware for your model of device, it will say at the top left in download mode, that is your current model. If these steps fail then I can't help you any further, you may want to ask someone else. If you don't know how to flash stock firmware, google it.
