[Q] Disabling Device Admin Lockscreen help - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone,
I have IBM Lotus Traveler on my phone for work email, and it forces a password-protect lock screen. If it ran through basic Exchange Services email, I would have lots of possible options to disable/bypass the lock screen requirement.
Unfortunately, it is a stand-alone app with Device Administrator control. I have freakin' scoured the internet trying for a work-around, and have still not been able to find anything.
Below is a link to several deeper methods that I thought "may" work. While it's on a Miui site, I don't think you need to be running a Miui rom to make these commands work, but I don't know. And while I know Android fairly well, I'm not an expert and not that up-to-speed with ADB functions and programming. If someone could check out this link and see if there is potential there...or if it would be a waste of my time, any input would be appreciated.
http://en.miui.com/thread-5684-1-1.html
Also, if anyone has any other input or direction on disabling device admin permissions, or maybe fooling the administrator on the app, anything that may work, that would be great to know as well.
Any help would be hugely appreciated- thanks!

bump for input...

2nd bump for some interest?

Zero input or perspective?

Modding the "lock"

And no, this is not another one of those.. " I locked myself out threads".
I used to have a Treo 700wx which worked wonderfully until I switched to ATT and bought a HTC tilt. The Tilt being way faster and everything I could ask in a phone there is 1 small problem..
With the Treo, when I went to "lock" I could enter any sequence of numbers, either being 1111 or 1234, or anything simple. With the Tilt, its not so simple.
When I try to enter a simple password, it says it must be more complex.. The exact error message is "Password Error. Please enter another password. The password must be at least 4 characters and not contain a simple sequence". That's nice and all HTC, but considering my phone is in MY pocket 90% of the day, I don't necessarily need a complex password.
Ive tried looking on xda, all the possible software sites that Google has thrown at me, and I couldn't find a single post or thread about this.
I do know there are programs out there like the iphone slider, which is amusing. and a couple of other ones with patters and whatnot.
So my question is Does anyone know of a way to make it so I could have a simple pin with the default lock program? And if not, does anyone know of a similar program that does the same thing?
The reason I ask is myself a few other windows 6.1 users have also asked the same question. If anyone knows, please share so this community will know!
Thanks

*edit* I just realized that this thread belongs in the "Questions and answers" area*
I'd suggest editing the registry, and changing the policies.
However, if you're synching with Office/Outlook Exchange servers and the server is actively pushing security restrictions to your phone periodically, you might have a hard time getting rid of said restriction permanently.
Thank you Bouvrie for your post, and I did find some useful information, but nothing to the lines of actually modding the registry to allow me to have custom passwords that are not complex.
Any more ideas?
So this part ain't of any help to you ?
Determining Password Complexity
Registry Key: HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\LAP\
lap_pw\PasswordComplexity
Value: 0 = Require Alphanumeric. 1 = Require numeric (PIN). 2 = No restriction.

You didn't say if it was to do with enforced security settings?
If so, this little app will help

I did think this part would work, but after looking into the registry, I found it was already set at 2. Because I do not have a password set.

I just tried this app, and it did not work the way we thought. Thanks for the try!
anyone have any ideas.. I can't seem to find any regedit keys that deal with this issue.
It's impossible BOB.

User definable bluetooth remote control

Hi guys,
for a few months now I am looking for a remote control for my Diamond. The best solution I found so far is the PPC Tablet Remote Control Suite, but this does not have all the features I need.
What I am looking for is a tool which allows me to define my own buttons (PPC Tablet does this) and also to create a script behind (PPC Tablet only sends key strokes). E.g. I want to have a full media center conrol app, including the control of my favorite programs, DVBViewer, Foobar2000 and the KMPlayer. Everyone of those has already several shortcuts. I can address them from PPC Tablet, but I can not start the programs. I also cannot shutdown Windows or in-/decrease the system volume if needed. This would only be possible if the tool sends a command like {volume_down} to a server processing tool, which then has a database where this command is linked to lowering the system volume (a kind of scripting language). My infrared remote has that ability, but I want to get rid of it since it only controls the DVBViewer in a correct manner.
I already heard of a tool called "Girder", but am not sure whether this is the right thing for me.
I hope I did not scare you off by this quite long text and would be very happy if someone could recommend a suitable application to me.
Regards and thanks in advance!
did you try Salling Clicker? you can create your own (java) scripts for it and a lot of scripts are shared on the salling clicker forum...
Hi,
thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I have been to the homepage, but have never installed it (I thought there may be an easier - code less - solution out there). I just dont like java very much, but I'll give it a shot.
Thanks!
check out theire forum, a lot of custom scripts are submitted and working very well! you can quite easily script yourself by starting from some other script and modifying it to your needs...
A quick update on this one:

We are trying to get as many contributors as possible at the moment, be it for beta testing or active programming.

Want app to auto set forwarding...

I honestly didn't know if this should be in Developing Forum, or Apps forum. I presume apps forum is for existing apps.
I want to be able to have my phone (Captivate) forward automatically based on where I am at. I had accomplished that on my old WinMo phone two different ways:
1.) Originally I got Mort Script (scripting tool for WinMO), and wrote a script based on time to auto forward the phone. I needed to find the correct app to call to do the forwarding (I'm on AT&T, and it is done in their network, as opposed to just dialing a number and enter the forwarding number). Found that with the help of another great forum on XDA.
2.) Then I learned of Phone Alarm which could do that based on cell tower, wifi, GPS, etc. Loved it.
I am told by the authors of Locale that it cannot be done becaue of inbuilt security on Android. This leaves me thinking the only way I may accomplish this is with a script.
Anybody know of a way to accomplish this? Or may be writing an app to do it?
I am installing Setting Profiles now, but I'm sure it doesn't have that capability build in either. (Well, pretty sure. I'll explore).
Check here: this might be to your needs.

Thanks. I'll check it out, and post back what I find.
TASKER... http://tasker.dinglisch.net/index.html
I have been using it a few days now and the possibilities are limitless. There is a wiki that has recently started growing with tutorials and profiles.
I have used to to perform several actions that items from the market require a purchase to do.
We're referencing the same thing
I have downloaded it, and it looks great. I"m not sure it will do the forwarding I want, but a nice tool anyway. I had downloaded Setting Profiles just before starting this thread, but it isn't near as strong as Tasker.
I'll have to search for the Wiki.

[Q] What about default Android VPN

Hi all!
This is my first thread, and I hope I've done everything correctly (noob video, forum rules, etc ...). Well, I'd like to know a little bit more about VPN features in Android.
I use official Android Samsung ROM 2.3.2, but I think my questions are valid for any kind of ROM/device.
I've tried to set PPTP VPN, but I had troubles. Anyway, I would like to know more about that feature:
- Does *ALL* traffic goes through the VPN (data connection), or does some apps can bypass it?
- I heard about default VPN implementations in Android is crap (PPTP, L2TP ...). Can you confirm it, or give me Google keywords?
- I would like to redirect *ALL* my traffic to a server, in way to dump all connexion.
- OpenVPN sounds a good solution for what I want to do, but do I need to know if we can install it without rooting my phone.
Well, I hope there is not another similar topic I am actually making a little study, so if you affirm something, please reference your sources (or a name/website/author ...)
Thank you
Nobody can give me a piece of advice ? :/
android vpn
hi
first you have to setup a android vpn service and then you can setup above features check (purevpn.com/vpn-service/android-vpn.php)
Hi!
Thank you for your reply! But I don't want to use these service, I want to create mine (I got some Debian servers ...)
Anybody else ? :/ I'm quite desipointed to see so few answers ... Or maybe I missed the good topic ..

[Q] Is it possible to use MS.Internal somehow in a normal app?

Is it possible to somehow use classes from the MS.Internal namespace, things like MS.Internal.TextBoxView which is the type of a sub-object of the ContentControl of a textbox?
I mean use them in a "normal" app on a locked end-user phone, and getting away with it as far as certification is concerned so it can appear normally in the Marketplace?
The Visual Studio debugger is able to display information about such objects somehow, that's where I got the knowledge of the existence of this TextBoxView class in the first place, but of course that does not mean that a normal app can do likewise.
Googling for "WP7 reflection" showed me hits in other places like StackOverflow with info that probably this will just run into security exceptions anyway, because MS does not want devs to use "undocumented APIs", but I am curious whether somebody here has tried to "hack" this and can report first-hand.

I highly doubt.. more towards no for this. Microsoft pretty much will deny anything in the low level APIs from being accepted in the Marketplace. A way to check this is to use the Marketplace Test Kit in VS 2010 (Project -> Open Marketplace Test Kit). It will tell you if something you're using will fail as it does the same type of quick test that happens when you upload a XAP for submission.
