Internal and external sd unmounted, can´t access to recovery and fastboot - General Questions and Answers

Hi there,
I bought ZTE U819 and I was trying to replace the Chinese recovery, but I chose a not compatible recovery version by mistake, so:
- I Can´t access to my device recovery (Up Volume + power). When I try to enter, the device always restart
- I Can´t access to fastboot mode
- The internal sd and sd card are unmounted
- I only can access to system folder by root explorer
- It´s rooted
The only way to install apk is with iAPK
* I tried to edit vold.fstab but not worked.
* I tried to install the right recovery from adb but I could,´t do it (It was probably because I made something wrong)
* I tried to copy the correct recovery to system through airdroid, but I can´t sent files to system folder (because It will need a hard root?)
I think if I copied the right recovery to system folder, I could install it with goo manager or similar...
Is there any way to install through adb or terminal emulator?
Thank you ever so much!!

I know this method works with some Android ROMs.
When you do a restart of the phone, at one stage, you will see screenfuls of text messages scrolling past. At this point quickly press the Power button - this might bring you to the recovery screen.
If Power button does not work, you can try the single Vol Up, Vol Down or Home button, one at a time, at the scrolling text messages screen.
You may have to restart a few times to catch that moment of the scrolling text messages and try with each of the buttons.
Hope this works.

Ok, so I FINALLY rooted my Samsung Vibrant (SGH-T959) - here's how!

Hey all,
I've been trying all the various one-click root apps that are on here, and none of them have worked for my T-Mobile Vibrant (Android 2.1 update 1).
I did find some other threads/posts elsewhere that mentioned copying the update file to the main sd, then booting to recovery, then installing the update.zip.
After a bunch of variations of trying to boot to recovery and not having the "install update.zip" to the zip file being the wrong file for the phone, I found an answer. Here's how I rooted my SGH-T959:
Go here to get the proper update file. Download the zip and rename it "update.zip".
Connect to your computer via USB and make sure you mount the drive. My Windows 7 box recognized the phone immediately, but my XP box at work didn't. If you need drivers, you can get them here
Copy the update.zip file over to the main sd card.
Unplug the phone and power down.
To boot to recovery console on my phone, I had to hold Volume + and - and the power button all at once. I let the "Virbant" text pop up twice before letting go of the buttons.
The phone boot to recovery console. Using the Volume +/-, navigate to "install packages" and then press the power key.
WOOT! you've rooted the Samsung Vibrant!
Hopefully that'll help - it was a real pain in the ass for me to find this info, but it works.
Update.zip not working to root my Vibrant
I do the steps and it looks as if it is installing, then it reboots but I can't get root access still.. WTF??
Download Z4 Root from the Android market - it works.

[Q] REcovery

I can't get into recovery. Long story short I went from TnT to ????. I was able to figure out my back back but now I get FCs all the time. I read somewhere that I need to wipe my data but I can't get into recovery.
This is what I have done so far:
1. Rooted again with Z4Root (it was gone after putting back the TnT)
2. I followed this thread to get Clockwork again (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245). After unzipping the file I made sure it was in the right place.
3. I reinstalled ROM Manager - I still can access the app but nothing happens when I select anything from the menu (i.e. Reboot into Recovery or Restore Backup)
4. Because ROM Manager is not working I did the power and Volume + and I see the message: Detect a recovery key pressed but I get all the way up and not into the recovery menu.
I have fixed the market and everything but I get FCs for almost every app that I try to use.

Update: the command file was setup to sdcard2

First update to B709 and then do a Factory data reset and a Erase internal storage (do not forget to make a copy of the backup (HuaweiBackup) on your computer or SD Card) and
then flash it to B804.
Ow and before you install a new Firmware on your phone, you first use the App Back-up to backup all your Apps (including Google Play Store and Google Play-services)
and contacts and SMS and more, then you installed the new Firmware.
Then you used Back-up again and installed all your Apps back on your phone including Google Play Store and Google Play-services, and now Google Play works and
you do NOT have to install Chinese recovery, so if you had a old Firmware on your phone before you installed the New Firmware, you do not need Chinese
recovery, just use the App Back-up that came with the Firmware.
You don't need Chinese recovery to root your phone.
Ow and you need to press 7 times on the build number to see developers settings, in B7*** and above.
And put a copy of your backup on a Computer, and on your SD-Card if the App have not done that already.
You have to sign into gapps before the backup app will allow the option to backup google services.

I have done it and it's very easy, if you already had MoreLocale 2 on your phone and selected your language then he will go to your language
in a view clicks, and if you had English in settings then you also still will have that, also with ADW.Launcher or (i hear better) with
Apex Launcher you have your App Drawer and more back.
Why is my notification bar (panel) gone?
To have a working notification bar, there are a few conditions to be achieved by the rom:
-the file cust/channel/*countryname*/xml/hw_defaults.xml must contain two lines:
<integer toolBoxSwitch="1"/>
<string toolBoxDisplayWidgetNameArray="com.huawei.android. toolbox,com.huawei.android.toolbox.ToolBoxProvider "/>
-the file system/build.prop must contain the line: ro.config.hw_toolbox=true
-the updater-script must contain the correct symlink, like: symlink("/cust/channel/cn", "/data/cust");
When using an original update from a country different than the phone's country, there is no symlink made, so all the files in the cust partition are not
seen by the phone, which leads to no notification bar and other issues!
In a custom rom the symlink is forced in the updater-script, so if everything else is ok, everything works!
Also, if someone flash a rom of Batty86 for example, and clean data after flashing, the symlink leads to a deletion of the cust partition, so again we have
no notification bar and so on.
I hope it's a bit more clear now.
Change languages without morelocale2
To get more languages without morelocale2, you can look for /сust/channel/cn/xml/hw_defaults.xml on your phone (use Root Browser to select file).
Now go about 60% down till you are at Phone related, and then you will see:
<string white_languages="zh_CH,en_US"/>
And put between en_US and "/> your language you want, en_GB is British English language, fr_FR is French language, de_DE is German language, and so on and so on.
So if you want your Phone to be French you have to do this <string white_languages="zh_CH,en_US,fr_FR"/>
And also do that with:
<!--string white_languages="zh_CH,en_US"/-->
Wipe data/factory reset the phone once again, and you should have more languages at your disposal.
SO now you can choose your language, and never have to use morelocale2 anymore (until you reflash your Firmware of course).
You need root access for this.
Good luck everybody.
With thanks to maikzen, for how to flash GAPPS and octop and soudy1994 and Pimorez and vkukfor and androidxda how to Root and Batty86 for why the notification bar (panel) is gone.

Then try to reinstall GAPPS, or try a different one, like a new one.
Or just put the newest Stable Emui on your phone like i have done B544, works perfect on my phone, so must also work on yours.

There are almost no Chinese things on it anymore, you can delete them almost all, and also disable them if you want.
Ok i will make some screen shots, and then put them here.
This is how MY B544 EmotionUI_1.5_V100R001CHNC00B544 Android 4.1.2 looks like.
So if you first install B544 it looks different, you can change everything you like, even how icons looks and so on.

So this is the easiest way to upgrade your phone (new ROM Android), install GAPPS and Root, it's the safest.
I have don this with (B544) U9508_EmotionUI_1.5_V100R001CHNC00B544 Android 4.1.2, so you also can do this with B605 and B610 and B615 others:

Before starting the firmware you need to have:
1. SD card of at least 2GB
2. Phone with a charged battery at least 50%
1. Unpack the archive with the firmware and throw dload folder to the root of the memory card.
2. Turning off the phone from the computer.
3. In the phone menu - Settings - Storage - Software Update - SD card Upgrade (or Settings - About phone - System update - Update via SD Card).
4.The phone will reboot and begin the upgrade process and you will see the following picture.
After the update the phone will reboot and start.

There is some little problem with installing the B605.
After i copy the dload folder to the sd card, turn off, then (Vol + Vol - and Power) or (Settings - Storage - Software Update - SD card Upgrade)
it boots into Geno mod screen, with a lot of Chinese ****.
something like 7-8 options.
All this, instead of installing the new B605...
BTW, now i'm on MIUI.
How to solve this? If i do get it right, the recovery of mine is not the original, coz once i've installed it via recovery6.0.1.9_AscendHonor2.
But now, i dont know how to rollback to original recovery....

ROMs With More Bugs: Cyanogenmod 10.1 (4.2) https://copy.com/8kt2EAU2ll8y
1- Download the drivers from link posted above, and extract it to the folder of your desire. Now turn the phone off, and hold Vol+ (volume up button) and Power button at the same time until you see a green screen, then release both buttons immediately. You should now be in APX mode(nvflash) it will be a black screen
2- Connect phone to computer via usb cable. Now you should get a pop-up window about installing drivers, you're going to want to choose to browse computer for driver software manually. Then choose let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and click have disk. Now you're going to browse to the location where you extracted the drivers to, and click on it(Ignore warning if it pops up, and choose install)
3- Assuming everything went as planned, now download the recovery and extract it to the location you desire(must be in a directory that you can issue adb commands from) inside of that folder, locate a file named recovery.bat. Double click on that file and a command prompt with a bunch of chinese pops up. Give it a second and press enter, it will go through the process and flash a recovery onto your phone
4- After everything is done, hold down the power button for about ten seconds(until the device powers off) Power the device back on normally, and download the ROM/ROMs if you haven't already and place them on the internal or external sd card(your choice) With device connected to pc, open command prompt and type in "adb reboot recovery" (without quotes) and the device will boot into recovery mode
5- Now that we have an English recovery, the translations below aren't really needed. However, I'm going to leave them up for a few days, just until everybody can transition to the English recovery. They will be deleted after that!
Recovery Main Menu: -Reboot -Install from SD card -Wipe Data/Factory Reset -Wipe Cache -Backup&Restore -Mount/Format -Advanced
Install From SD Card Menu: -Install zip from external SD -Apply update.zip -Unknown* -Install zip from internal SD
Backup&Restore Menu: -Backup -Restore -The rest are unknown*
Advanced Menu: -Reboot Recovery -Wipe Dalvik Cache -The rest are unknown*
To install ROM- In recovery mode, Factory Reset/Wipe Cache/Wipe Dalvik Cache. Then choose install zip from sd card(then choose internal or external and locate the ROM you want to install) After that you need to do the same thing to install the gapps package(you need the gapps package for google apps to function) once all is done, reboot and wait(it takes a while to boot the first time after flashing new ROMs, it has to rebuild the Dalvik cache)
NOTE: In case you aren't familiar with flashing ROMs, once you click on something( "backup" for example) a menu pops up pretty much asing you if you're sure you want to do that. It will have a bunch of lines of the same thing(which is no) and then one of the lines will have a bunch of writing beside it(which means yes). Also BEFORE you flash any ROMs, make sure you factory reset/wipe cache/and wipe dalvik cache, then you can flash the ROM and gapps package
*These will be updated regularly, as I discover what they are **More ROMs to come!
Internal Memory
The "BLU Quattro 4.5" has 4GB internal memory partitioned into 0.98GB for ROM and apps and an internal usb-memory of 1.63GB.
Is it possible to merge or resize the partitions?
I have 16GB external SD so the 1.63GB internal reserved usb-memory is useless and I still having trouble out of space in primary partition.
Thanks and sorry my english =/

Recovery + Root My experience
Hello... I got my BLU Quattro 4.5 (D440) a while back, didn't fuzz with it much right off. The Stock ROM was sluggish at best thought there was even an issue with the Digitizer/screen. But this thread was extremely helpful. I am now running Shendu ROM 4.1.2 one of the suggested ROM's above. I tried the other 2 first and they were mostly in Chineese and I had an especially hard time getting them switched over to English. Either way onward to the point. I have put together a few helpful tips-tricks for my experience with this phone and its phoenix transition to an awesome handset. Thats right now this is my daily driver and I love it! See below hope its helpful.
BLU Quattro 4.5 (440D) GSM Recovery+Root
These steps for this phone only!! Not responsible for any issues.
1. download ROM's, Recovery, & Driver from XDA (this thread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327417
2. Enable USB Debugging! Go into Apps-Settings-DevOptions - Check box for USB Debug
3. Have original USB cord if handy! I tried with a Samsung OEM cable but no luck getting drivers to stick. Use original is best. (If you have one.)
Plug in USB Cord to PC then Phone and see if windows detects drivers. let it. It wont get the ones u need later, but what it does find is for USB storage. (you can move over your ROM's/Gapps to storage, downloads folder is a good spot).
4. Go to... http://junefabrics.com/android/downloadold.php to get pdanet software. Install it and it will give i the right drivers for ADB support. I used 4.01 to match the android version currently on my phone.
5. Extract the Driver provided from XDA. Put it in a folder with the ADB commands. Or you can get it all here... http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyNexus/rooting/GalaxyNexusRootNew.zipn <-- I know this isn't for BLU but, if you extract this to a folder, and also add the drivers extracted to it as well this works! I've done it.
6. Extract the English Recovery to the same folder.
7. Turn off your phone. Hold down Vol up and Power button for about 5-9 seconds. Once you see a green screen let go of both. Screen may flicker then go black but the icons at the bottom will stay lit. You are now in APX mode (nvflash) mode. (as stated above in original post)
8. Check your Win 7 PC device manager. For a Phone device with ADB. If you you may need to update driver with the one that came from XDA, but the PDANet software should make it work.
8. Go to the folder and find Recovery.bat file (may have Chinese in file name. Double click and a command prompt window will pop up with a bunch of unknown characters, wait 5 sec then hit enter. The batch file should take of pushing the necessary recovery through ADB to the phone. It will error if it can't.
9. If completes OK. Push power for 7-9 seconds to power off the phone. Hit power like normal to turn it back on. It will boot up like normal (or it should).
10. USB is still connected this whole time and you can open a command prompt window. Navigate to the folder you placed the Recovery into. Something like user/username/desktop/BLU/recovery..etc)
Type ADB devices....it should show you that is is connected to your device. Then type " adb reboot recovery " and the device should reboot, give it some time.
11. Once in recovery. Best to do a backup of the original ROM & system. that way you can get back into recovery if anything goes wrong and wipe out the problem by restoring and starting again.
After you backup === you can get into recovery without the command being typed in or even being connected to your PC.... By holding Vol up + Power till you see the green screen then let go of power but keep holding Vol up till you see the BLU Products boot screen then let go ===
Clockworkmod Recovery should be on your screen.
you can reboot phone now and get back to original with no changes. Or you can venture into the world of loading ROM's (There in your downloads folder if you saved them in Step 3)
ROM 101
BACKUP-BACKUP-BACKUP 1st thing once in Recovery ...can't stress enough how much of trouble you can keep yourself out of by keeping an original backup.
As I stated before the Shendu ROM + Gapps is running smooth and all features I've been trying are working flawlessly!! Thanks to original post for getting me going. Just thought I'd add my 2 Cents.
Ok, here are the BEST 2 ROMS for this Phone:
Android 4.0.4(close to vanilla) : MEGA
Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Android 4.3.1) : (some audio and video issues, in BETA version ) MEGA
Need to merge internal partitions ? (merge memories) this one really "resize" the partitions (first one 1,7GB, another one new size is 2Mb) the flash.cfg file you need to flash:
This phone dont have notificaion led, fixed with this app: MEGA (flash the botton menu buttons)

Yes, those roms (v5) are very slow. Just use the 4.0.4 stock.
I want to try the JB stock, but i can´t find the official one anywhere.
Blu quattro 4.5 official rom to download, after you delete the bloatware and put a nice and clean theme you´ll get a nice speed.
orig D440 (quattro 4.5) rom
You can find the rom on google plus under BLU Products Development search for the model!
Hope that helps. I took your advice tonight and I am back running old school. Works ok husfar

[TUTORIAL][GUIDE][HOW TO] Root Alcatel One Touch Pop S3 5050 | Every Android version

Hi everyone,I have been in possession of an Alcatel One Touch Pop S3 5050 for quite a long time and was not able to root it until recently.
I will share my method in this topic but first of all, I have to thanks Decker.Kaluga for developing a custom CWM recovery image that kind of work on this device. You can find a good tutorial on how to install CWM on OT-6036Y or OT-6050Y on his website.
My second thanks goes to morgs640 for the idea of adapting Decker's work on Alcatel Pop S3.
This method may work with other Alcatel devices, see last question in the FAQ section for more informations.
This method should not arm your device but as any root operation, there is always a risk. I am not responsible if anything goes wrong.
Click to collapse
Step One
- Download Decker's custom CWM recovery here: cwm_alcatel_6050y.7z
- Unzip it
- Install adb drivers
Step Two
- Download latest zip version of Supersu from Chainfire, currently the 2.46
- Rename the archive as update.zip
- Put this file in the CWM recovery folder
Step Three
- Connect the device in USB, activate debug option and make sure adb is working by going to the folder where you have unziped the custom recovery
Code:
adb devices
- Navigate inside the device memory to identify the location of the internal and external memory:
Code:
adb shell ls /storage/
For internal memory, it should be:
Code:
/storage/sdcard0
And for external memory (sdcard):
Code:
/storage/sdcard1
- Push the Supersu zip file to external memory
Code:
adb push update.zip /storage/sdcard1/
- Take note of the position of the update.zip file inside the external memory
Code:
adb shell ls /storage/sdcard1/
In my case, this command returns:
Code:
- Android
- DCIM
- Documents
- Download
- LOST.DIR
- Pictures
- Ringtones
- data
- media
- update.zip
My update.zip file is in 10th position.
Step Four
- Reboot the device in fasboot by pressing Volume Down and Power until logo Alcatel pop S3 appears
- Verify the device is connected:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1bbb devices
Boot the device with the custom recovery:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1bbb boot cwm_recovery_6050y.img
NOTE: This does not install the custom recovery on the phone so pressing Power during 5 seconds will reboot the phone normally.
The screen will turn white, wait until it stabilizes.
The screen will remain white as the recovery is not specially developed for this device but it should work anyway.
Step Five
This is the tricky part, the menu does not display but the recovery is running anyway.
The menu you are not seeing is the following:
Code:
> reboot system now
> install zip
> wipe data/factory reset
> wipe cache partition
> backup and restore
> mounts and storage
> advanced
By default the cursor is on the first option.
- Press Volume Down once then Power to enter the install zip option.
This menu will be opened:
Code:
> choose zip from /sdcard
> choose zip from /storage/sdcard1
> choose zip from last install folder
> install zip from sideload
> toggle signature verification
+++++Go Back+++++
- Press Volume Down once then Power to enter the choose zip from /storage/sdcard1 option.
This will open the external memory folder:
In my case:
Code:
Android
DCIM
Documents
Download
LOST.DIR
Pictures
Ringtones
data
media
update.zip
- As you know exactly the position of the update.zip file from Step Three, press Volume Down accordingly.
In my case, 9 times to go from Android folder to update.zip- Then press Power
It will prompt for a confirmation:
Code:
> No
> Yes - install update.zip
- Press Volume Down once then Power to install.
- Finally, Press Power one more time to confirm installation, then reboot manually the device by pressing Power during 5 seconds.
If the process has been successful, when rebooting it will display a text saying that the list of application is being updated.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
As neileverett suggested, the external memory sdcard could be recognized as sdcard0 instead of sdcard1.
To determine how the sdcard is named by the system, I recommend to use a browser as ES File Explorer or Astro Manager to write down all the content of the external memory and compare this list to the result of the ls command from Step Three.

FAQ
Q: My device never connect in adb.
A: First verify that adb drivers are installed.
In my case when I connect the phone, it first emulates a CD player device with a folder containing the generic drivers.
I have to safely remove this emulated CD first (right click on the System Tray icon -> remove device) before the phone accepts to connect itself with MTP or ADB.
Q: I do not have a sdcard.
A: You can try to do the process with internal memory.
First, you will need to navigate the memory with adb shell to find Internal memory
Code:
adb shell
Code:
shell#ls /storage/
shell#ls /mnt/
...
Some examples of the possible location of the internal memory
Code:
/storage/emulated/
/storage/sdcard0
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/
etc.
Sometimes, you get a menu like this prior the actual content of the sdcard0 (internal memory)
Code:
/0/
/legacy/
/obb/
After entering in /0/ or in /legacy/ you should get the actual content of the memory.- Then push update.zip to internal memory
Code:
adb push update.zip $INTERNAL_MEMORY_LOCATION
- In Step FIVE, while in the second menu, choose choose zip from /sdcard by directly pressing Power
From a system point of view, it can open /storage/emulated/ or /mnt/shell/emulated/ that means the folder opened will not be the Internal Memory but a parent folder.
I recommend that you try every possibility by:
- First considering that pressing choose zip from /sdcard led you to the actual Internal Memory content and you shall proceed as normally by looking for update.zip in the current folder.
If it did not work:
- Consider that a parent folder is displayed and the actual memory is in the first sub folder
- Press Power to enter the first sub folder (which may be the Internal Memory) and try to install update.zip- Consider that a parent folder is displayed and the actual memory is in the second sub folder
- Press Volume Down then Power to enter the second sub folder (which may be the Internal Memory)- ...
After each try, reboot and look for the pop-up saying that the list of application is being updated.
You can go on with up to 2 levels of sub folders.
Q: I tried everything, it still do not work.
A: If you have a lot of folders and files in the Memory, the list of content on the CWM recovery will be displayed on several pages.
Make a backup of the Memory, then empty it and add only the update.zip file.
Restart then from Step One.
It should be easier to find the update.zip file.
Q: I own a different Alcatel model, could this trick work with my device?
A: First you can try the other CWM Recovery image Deckter has developed: cwm_alcatel_6036y_v2.7z
To verify that the recovery is correctly booting on the device, when the white screen stabilizes, try to press Power twice.
If the recovery is working, it will enter in the first menu (reboot system now) then confirm the reboot.
In case, after this manipulation, the phone does not reboot, it means the recovery is not working for your device.

I have just successfully used this method to root my Pop S3 - thanks for the method!
One thing to note:
I found that the method didn't work initially, then with some digging realised that my sdcard was mounted as sdcard0 rather than sdcard 1. It turns out this is because I had changed the default install location under settings - storage to 'external sd card' rather than the default of 'phone storage'.
I temporarily changed this setting back to 'phone storage', and then your process worked first time! Might be worth adding this info to the post?
Thanks once again!
OMG !
So it works with the last update available ?
Possible to have a viewable recovery in the future ?

Decker is willing to develop a CWM for Alcatel Pop S3 but does not possess the device. You can support it on his website. You'll find a link in the description of the Tuto.
Thanks
first thank you for the help. but my visit is to ask permission to make a video tutorial and so Decker.Kaluga to advertise can buy the pops3 and thus make the cwm for it.

Of course, feel free to post the link.
I need help.
When I enter into the custom recovery, it displays a menu. First choose a language. Then a selection. It says:
Reboot system now
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Chose apply update from sd card, it only shows ../
I have a Alcatel pop s3. Please I really need help.
Did you put the update.zip into your SD card ?

It's because you entered in the Alcatel Recovery mode not in Fastboot mode.
From Alcatel Recovery you can only install application signed by Alcatel.
Fastboot mode displays the Alcatel Pop s3 white logo on a black background (this is the first logo that appears when booting normally). Fastboot doesn't display anything else.
To enter Alactel Recovery it's: Power + Volume Up
To enter Fastboot it's: Power + Volume Down
You can also enter in Fastboot by entering the following while still in adb at the end of Step Three:
Code:
adb reboot fastboot
Once in Fastboot, go on with Step Four and so on.
Thanks for this
Any methods in sim unlocking? costum ROMs?
