Lost notification sound - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. Today my notification sound stopped working. My ringtone plays fine, but when I receive a message for example, there's no "Ting", the phone just vibrates. I'm using Cataclysm rom and franco's r13 kernel, and I've also flashed Drummerjed's volume mod. I don't know exactly when I lost notification sound since my phone stays on Silent/Vibrate for the major part of the day...
When I go into Settings > Sound > Default notification sound and select a tone, it doesn't play (if I go into Phone ringtone everything plays fine)
Anybody got any ideas? Thanks!

got the exact same probably going on.

Ringtone goes off - problem

Hi guys, about 4 days ago, i start having problems with my ringtone, i was on stock jvh with supercurio kernel, everything was working fine, very smooth and responsive, but suddenly i noticed that the ringtone volume goes down by itself, i mean when i restart the phone it boots up without a ringtone, and when i dont use the phone for about 1 hr, and then i receive a call there is no ringtone, i press the volume key up and and i noticed that the volume bar it's all the way down.
At first i thought was a problem with supercurio kernel, because i have it a clean JVH install with a SD format and wipe this and wipe that..=), but then i tried with Cyanogen7 and is the same thing.. I am in Cyanogen right now.
Does anyone here as been through this issues?
Note: this only happens with ringtone calls, notifications and alerts works fine!!

Really weird ringtone bug.

Everything was fine until I realized I cant change my custom ringtone anymore. Whatever ringtone I set the custom one would ring even though it showed the other one is selected. So I deleted the ringtone and then was able to change it.
However only after a little while the phone just stopped ringing, the default tone seems to be silent and whatever I put it wont change. I put back my custom ringtone, rebooted, then deleted all the custom ringtones again and yet I am unable to get my phone to ring.
I have tried setting a ringtone through playerpro music player as well but to no avail.
The notification sound comes as normal. I am running stock unrooted 4.0.4. What should I do?
Figured out the problem. There were some specific contacts that did not have a ringtone assigned to them and my own second phone was one of them from which I was doing the testing. I was using a profile scheduler app previously and in that I had put some of the contacts on the whitelist to allow them to call me even on silent mode. So it was the app which was controlling those contacts and even after uninstalling it the settings hadnt defaulted.

Ringtone doesn't work

Hello,
the last two days I missed a bunch of calls, then I realized that the ring tone doesn't work. I'am using the CM9 RC2 and until last Tuesday everything worked fine.
The music-player works and a the beep sounds too when I turn on the speaker volume.
Has someone a proposal what's wrong with my phone?
Thanks a lot, Daniel
PS: The vibration-alarm alarm doesn't work too. It must be a software problem! Then I turn the phone off, the short vibration works!
Which ringtone are you using? Sometimes it will change it by itself and not work. Also, if you are using the 'Digital Phone' ringtone it only rings once, but the ringtone 'Pyxis' (I believe) will loop it. Also check that the phone volume is not muted (the phone has a couple different volumes for media, alarms, and notifications).

I set every volume settings to the highest value. Normally the different ringtones were played when i switch them but nothing, only silence.
Mea culpa, it has all been my fault! What a beginners mistake! The last days I tried different NFC automated settings and, don't ask me why, it activated the CM profile "Silent". I would have thought that the profile changes the settings in the ringtone menu too but it hasn't.
2 hours stress because of a little mistake!

Will Not Vibrate For Notifications

It seems after I took the ota my phone will no longer vibrate for calls or any other notifications. I seen an at&t user had the same issue and a factory reset fixed it. Didn't work for me. I was stock rooted. I've now unlocked the bootloader, twrp recovery and installed cleanrom. Still have the same issue. I use the volume button to change it to mute with vibrate and the phone does vibrate, but the squiggly lines don't show up around the crossed out speaker. In the sound settings Silent Mode is set to Vibrate. Any ideas?

That's pretty odd. I would try to ODIN back to stock and then open bootloader again and root ETC.
Have never heard o an issue like this but I hope this fixes it or you figure it out. Also try this might help---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS5qb3Jnb25sb3Iudm9sdW1lY29udHJvbCJd
Good luck :fingers-crossed:
Fixed for me

This also happened to me after I had installed and then uninstalled a sound profile editor.
To fix it I found that the following worked for me.
1) First pull down the menu from the home screen and set to SOUND.
2) Next go to Settings...Sound.
3) Scroll down and turn on Sound and Vibration
4) Pull down menu again and toggle to vibrate.
Now the correct icon will show in the status bar and you will get vibration notifications.
I totally found this by accident and it worked for me, hopefully will work for you too.

[Q] Android 5.0 Whatsapp issue

Hi guys,
I flashed the factory image today and am quite pleased with it up to now, but there are 2 issues that really annoy me:
1. When sending messages in whatsapp, I don't get that pop sound it used to make.. it just sends the message and I can hear a very short strange and faint sound. other than that all regular notification are fine.
2. I'm sure this has been discussed thoroughly but what's the deal with removing silent\vibrate from the power menu options? I can't really remember how it used to be in the clean android 4.x since I was using xposed with gravityBox and I set the volume to control notifications+system sounds. aaaaaanyway, there is now way now to put the phone on silent COMPLETELY without going into settings>sounds and lowering the media volume separately.. sucks..
1: Complain to the app dev to update the app
2: Complain to Google
Next!
1. Same here. I guess the "pop" sound file has a format which worked fine on KitKat and now doesn't in Lollipop. => WhatsApp needs an update.
2. The notification system in Lollipop was profounld changed in comparison to KitKat. KitKat had sound, sound+vib, vib, none. Now, Lollipop distinguishes wheather you want all, some or no notification sounds. If you don't want any vibration, select "none" in the popup after pressing the volume rocker of the Nexus. You will receive everything, but you will not be bothered by any sound (also no vibration). If you just want some "importand" notifications with their sounds or vibration, selsect it in the same popup! What exactly is important and which calls you will receive is configured in the menu.
In short:
No vib, no sound: "None"
Vib only: "All" with decreased Volume down to vibration

Thanks for the reply mate, but you are quite wrong regarding the sound profiles, if you choose "none", media volume is not affected. I'll give you a scenario, say I'm in my room, and in the next room my baby boy is sleeping, I choose "none", then I go to watch a YouTube video, the video will have normal volume, my boy will wake up and my wife will beat me with whatever is the closest blunt object. While before, I had the option to silence media volume manually by pressing the volume rocker (or all together using xposed but that's not the case here), now in order to silence media volume you need to go into settings>sounds and mute it. What I'm saying is that "none" is not really complete silence, as it should be.
