Win 8.1 and graphics card drivers that do full screen scaling? - Microsoft Surface

Hi All,
I'm generally pleased with the performance of my Surface Pro and since the 8.1 upgrade my graphics card performance particularly in games has been stellar.
I do have one issue which is in win 8 when a game ran in a non native resolution the graphics card would scale the image to be full screen automatically. Since 8.1 I seem to have lost this functionality and most games and my citrix work log in only keep the resolution but draw big black borders around it when going full screen.
Are there some better drivers for the inten 4000 series that work well? I'm reluctant to try various version floating around the net as when I did this on Win 8 I had terrible graphics performance and couldn't get back to the original drivers without a full restore.
What is the best procedure for rolling back drivers to the OS inbuilt ones?

I've had the same issue with my Surface Pro 2, the only "solution" I've found is to set the display resolution in Windows to something lower than native, like 1600x900, then launch the game, and it should scale to full screen properly, no matter what the resolution is set at. Obviously a better solution would be much nicer, but this is the only thing I've found that works.

Thanks I've gone back to the 3316 dirvers from microsoft and these give better fps in some games. But the problem still persists so I'll try your solution! :good:

Galaxy S III MHL Adapter Resolution Changing

All, after looking around a bit, I haven't found too much info regarding changing the display resolution when connecting an MHL (HDMI) adapter.
I hacked around a bit and found the following thread which seemed to get close:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2090396
What's the goal?
To try to get the output resolution over MHL to be 720p or lower. I started this thread to provide more info and hopefully spark some interest in the topic.
Why should I care if the output resolution is 720p?
The default resolution over MHL (on every HDTV I've tried) is 1920x1080 @30fps. This resolution is fine for playing movies/Youtube/Netflix/etc. However, having the resolution so high causes the Adreno GPU to really struggle when playing games/emulators over MHL. If the resolution was lower (e.g. 720p), games and general 3D would get a nice boost in frame rate, becoming much less choppy.
Info gathered so far:
I use the Monoprice Galaxy S III MHL kit (http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...10419&cs_id=1083314&p_id=10021&seq=1&format=2). The Samsung MHL adapter may behave differently.
Files in /sys/devices/virtual/graphics/fb1/ seem to be related to (and perhaps even control) the MHL HDMI output.
When the MHL adapter is not plugged in, the "connected" file contains a 0. When the MHL adapter is plugged in, the "connected" file contains a 1.
By default, the "video_mode" file has the contents "34".
Looking at EDID codes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_display_identification_data), we can see that 34 corresponds to 1920x1080p @ 29.97/30Hz.
By default, the "virtual_size" file has the contents "1920,1080".
The "modes" file contains a list of resolutions.
"U:640x480p-0
U:1920x1080p-0
U:720x480p-0
U:1280x720p-0
U:1920x1080p-0"
The "video_mode_str" file contains a textual description of the output resolution "1920x1080 p30 16/9"
The "edid_modes" file contains "4,3,32,34,1". These modes correspond to the following EDID codes:
1 DMT0659 4:3 640x480p @ 59.94/60Hz
3 480pH 16:9 720x480p @ 59.94/60Hz
4 720p 16:9 1280x720p @ 59.94/60Hz
32 1080p24 16:9 1920x1080p @ 23.98/24Hz
34 1080p30 16:9 1920x1080p @ 29.97/30Hz
Experimentation:
-running "echo 4 > video_mode" as root (in an attempt to change the resolution to EDID code 4 - 1280x720p @ 59.94/60Hz) shrinks the screen to 720p (resolution and framerate stay at 1080p/30) and aligns it to the upper left corner of the screen. The screen remained this way until I reverted "video_mode" back to 34.
-unplugging MHL and re-inserting resets to "video_mode" to mode 34 (1080p/30)
-changing virtual_size to 1280,720 did nothing (both before or after video_mode was set to 4)
Any ideas/help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure how much time I will have to work on this, so hopefully others become interested as well.

Have you tried connecting the mhl adapter, setting video_mode_str then disconnecting from the tv then reconnecting? Maybe the tv would adjust to the resolution being output.
I am also looking for a way to get get a lower resolution when using MHL but me, it`s for a Galaxy Nexus. It`s become really laggy when a plug it and i can`t play game at all... i was expecting to play n64 and SNES emulator but it`s to much laggy even SNES. So i would be really interested to just use a lower resolution or even just disable the phone screen and just use the TV screen wich will certainly boost the performence due to the fact that my Nexus will just have one screen to use.
Any solutions to get 720p on MHL?
Nope. Haven't had much time to play lately and I got an ouya. I would try mojojoe's suggestion.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I came across this thread looking for a solution just wondering if anyone has a work around. Seems like a feature that should be added. I am not having any performance issues but on 3 different TVs now the resolution is not set right for the TVs the out edge is cut off like the resolution is wrong. From my understanding the default is 1080p and all three of these TVs one brand new the other two a bit older the outer edge is cut off and the native rez is 1080p.....
hi folks interesting thread. i want to change the hdmi output on my s4 to 1080p24 with the samsung mhl 2.0 adapter. by default its 1080p60.
i'm rooted and using root explorer have found the relevant files, and sure enough the video_mode files has 16 in it - 1080p60. when i try to change this to 32 (1080p24) using a text editor (its mounted as r/w), the changes don't stick even though it says the file is saved ok. am i doing something wrong here?
with reference to where you said "-running "echo 4 > video_mode" as root (in an attempt to change the resolution to EDID code 4 - 1280x720p @ 59.94/60Hz) shrinks the screen to 720p (resolution and framerate stay at 1080p/30) and aligns it to the upper left corner of the screen. The screen remained this way until I reverted "video_mode" back to 34." - could you explain how you do this please? is this using terminal emulator?
I just purchased the official MHL adapter, plugged into my HDMI switch and it outputted at 24hz. Perfect for movies but choppy for Need for Speed.
Stupidly Samsung haven't given any options to change output format and since the s4 was outputting different hertz to different displays I figured it was just going by EDID.
There's a device called a HDMI doctor that can spoof any EDID information I set the HDMI doctor to setting 4 which is for 720p max output.
The s4 then immediately outputted at 720p/60hz.
The device costs about £50 so it's an expensive solution if you only use it for your phone. I have one because it enables me to output 24hz material to my TV/Projector when my AV amp doesn't support it.
Has there been any update since the last post? Do any new Samsung updates enable changing of output?
Having the same issues on my galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition. This is bull****, hdmi is basically unusable for anything else than video.
FIX!!!!!
I know this post is about 3 years old, but I found this post now while browsing in 2016 so I hope this helps someone out.
To change the resolution and make games and all apps lag free (with the method I found) you MUST be rooted.
If rooted, download a root terminal/cmd and type ru in prompt and hit enter. Then type wm size 720x1280. ***Will stay on indefinitely until reverted back with command ru then wm size 1080x1920***
Now your device will be 720p, but you will notice that your icons are huge. To fix that in CM12.1 go to setting/look and feel/DPI and change from 440 to 320. If you don't have CM12.1 download a DPI changer and change to 320, or find corresponding root cmd to change DPI... I don't know it because CM12.1 has one stock.
Now everything should be lag free and awesome for gaming! I use sixasis and screen standby and have been playing Zelda on the couch the last few evening.
Hope this helps at least one person.
Side note: I'm not sure about the aspect ratio for Samsungs or any other device... But these resolution are 16:9. I know my original note was something weird like 16:10. Most likely all devices now are 16:9, just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of that before changing screen res..... IF for some reason their aspect ratio is different.

Change resolution of android games

Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to optimize the resolution of android games?
I have a galaxy tab android S2 and some games have too low a resolution. It's like 400x300 on a 2K device.
Thx
I believe the reason of that is because this particular games are not optimized for your device. I doubt you can do anything about it.
is there a way to "simulate" another device ?
What I was about to say was that it's not the matter of the device model but it's the matter of the screen size and density. The system performs scaling and resizing of the application to make it work on different screens. However, scaling can result in blurry or pixelated graphics. To avoid this problem, the developer of the app should provide alternative resources (bitmap images, etc.) for different densities (i.e. optimize the application for different screen sizes and densities). If this wasn't done, the application is simply stretched to fit the screen that results in poor graphics quality.
And if i root the tablet to use an app that changes the DPI and resolution of the device.
Do you think the game will also change the resolution to improve it?
I don't know if this will work. Maybe someone else knows.

I got help from the above article.
so I am using daydream as 4k / 2k.
1. Use adb to change the resolution to 4k / 2k.
2. Use the attached 4k / 2k qr code.
3. Enable the skip vr entry scene in Day Dream Developer option.
4. Turn off nfc.
5. Use Daydream.

I think. Xz Premium is the highest visual quality of all virtual reality devices for use with YouTube Vr Platform.
I might be telling a lie. I'm just curious.
4k ips That's great. Video quality.
(Pimax 4K is similar panel)
Low latency could be a problem.
But I had no problem viewing flat screen videos.
I liked the movie watching very much with Xzp.
One could say
the daydream view 2017 fov is narrow..
Netflix vr has a film, Pacific Rim.
Watch this movie. If you use big screen size with Daydream View 2017, you don't understand the movie action scenes. Symbol recognition fov of a human being is 60 degree.
I think..
Daydream View 2017 is great for movie watching..
There are already sufficient viewing fov to watch movies.
I think..
4k ips came close to the experience of looking at PC monitors.
I wonder if I was wrong..
I wonder if people just don't know..

In nougat..
The screen is stained.

Sadly, I have no ability.

I think...
Netflix vr has a video quality of 500 ~ 600p
With this app,
more than 1080p netflix video contents enjoying is possible.
This app works for only nougat..
Operating in nougat..not oreo.
Sometimes the screen gets stained.
if reboot, ok..
I want to use this app and 4k/2k vr at the same time.
If so, the app should work in Oreo or there should be no spot problem in Nougat.
Can someone solve this problem?

That's great Man! Thanks for sharing! But the Title... lol
I will share it on My Patch since i just enabled Hard/Software Support for Daydream / VR with the coming Update. Hope it delivers the wished Quality and that the 4K Display switch Option on AOSP soon works again on Oreo...
For now works just the ADB Command.

Edit: Would be interesting how good this works on top of My Patch on AOSP since it has full Support for Daydream and VR (Including Configs, Permissions and Settings + Play Store App Compatibility). Will release it soon and hope somone can test it with a Daydream Headset...

That sounds very interesting - I will test this in the near future.
I don't get the thread title though , but I can say the XZp has a much clearer image than my Oculus Rift or my last phone (Galaxy S6). But it is only really good for using a vr setup that doesn't require to move your head. I use VRTV as my player, not the perfect app but pretty near to perfect, if Daydream will ever work on my XZP again, I'll test DeoVR , which is in my opinion the best player for PC/Oculus and hopefully for android as well

Awesome to hear from someone who can compare the Quality! I was never a fan of this Headmoving Stuff. SONY HMD was the true sh** when it comes to a great Head Mounted Display Experience and as a Gamer to i still prefer to move the View Field with My Mouse instead of using Sensor. I can just recommend this kind of using even with VR Headsets. Less shaky and a lot more Precisely!
Another Question, Is heat a Problem on Your actual Setup? I can ensure it will be much cooler at all with AOSP and the Patch. Just played a Dungeon Session Shadowgun Ledgens on Ultra Settings with 60FPS and i got almost no heat or Performance Issues. It's incredible how big the difference to Stock is...
I'm also one of the Founders from Riftcat (VRidge), and i can really recommend it btw. I also bought Moonlight but i was never able to use it as HMD (Without Headtracking). It would be Ultra Killer to have a Way to use the XZP as a 4K Head Mounted Display with this two Services. Would be really thankfull for any Ideas (Mainly using the PC for Video and Work, just sold My GTX 1060)!
And a last Thing i have to say after reading Your reply again. The XZP doesn't supports VR with Hardware or Software (But it could) on Stock right!? The funny Thing is, i really enabled full Support for it. You can choose between Flicker Reducing or Sharpness in the Display Settings, and it allows You to setup Daydream on the normal Way. Visit the Play Store, Download the Daydream App (VR main Services are included in the Patch) and set it up. It does also support advanced Daydream Options and it handles the VR Services over advanced profiles which are involving the Hardware and the Software Parts of Android (Full Support). So it should be a huge upgrade compared to Stock. And AOSP has also Options for the Display Resolution / Frequency (Which are not working yet), which could be the perfect addition to that (Switching between Options without ADB).
I would really appreciate to hear from You what You can reach with the Patch and AOSP! Sadly do i not own a Daydream Headset (Just a Chinese Cardboard which collects Dust), or any other Kind of VR Headset so i can't fully test everything. But i think i will go to buy a Daydream 2017 Headset when i have some Money again. Would really like to use My PC on My XZP Screen...
Can't wait to know more about all this! BR :highfive:

I've always used the vrtv, my best player ^^
It plays on the Sony 4K panel without adb command.
Daydream Skybox app
can also be used with 4K panel using adb command.
I haven't used deo vr,
but I'm looking forward to a great experience.^^
I do not know about PC vr device( Samsung Odyssey was put on for a while, and tracking was great.)
but I think it is okay to flat video watching head tracking. Move less than one expected.
I think smartphone head tracking capability is poor and there may be a problem there. Instead, Xzp video quality is supplementary.
I think
not suitable heavy game.
suitable video watching like youtube vr, casual game, 2d screen game..
I look forward to your response with experience as I can not use a large number of vr equipment.
thanks your reply^^

Carbonrom + snappatch
It doesn't go over daydream vr entry screen.
I can't get to the next step on the controller setup screen.
stock rom v1848. It runs well.
I haven't checked more anything else.
Sony Oreo stock Rom are well run but the screen brightness turns dark during long time using 4K setting vr because of the heat problem.
------------
Daydream View 2017 headset is recommended. It is comfortable-fit, lightweight, and has good fov and very little misting. First of all, It has a 'heat sink'.
https://www.virtual-reality-shop.co.uk/
There is a best-seller baofeng mosing s1.
It is known as the current mobile best fov.
I bought it.
For xzp, size do not fit, so further work is required.
There is a misting. can't use glasses. I think fov is fine but that doesn't get ahead of Daydream view 2017 quality.
Fov is less interested when adjusted.
I eventually use a Daydream view 2017 headset.
Fov small, awkward sense of wearing,
but untouchable video quality is Antvr.
For image quality, sometimes I use antvr.

Post moved backwards.
Wow, seems that this thread is starting to skyrocket
I will take my time and read everything again, currently at work and a bit in a rush....
With my current setup ( g8141, turbo p75d rom , vrtv , bobovr z5 headset with daydream compatible controller, with sitesinvr calibration ) I have no heat issues (my galaxy s6 got so hot after just some minutes , that it would be more safe to wear aramid fibre gloves..... ) and the image is not distorted.
The manual "sharpness setting" the headset is offering seems to end right at the position the image is getting sharper for me, if the phones display is moved 1-2mm further away from the lenses, it might be even better, but not possible.
So maybe this is something that can be dealt with on the software side. (I remember the Oculus, DeoVR software offered a sharpness slider which did magic to some videos.... )
@Miustone: What I've read about your Snappatch is that you can alter the max bitrate limits etc which the snapdragon835 is able to play? Being able to play higher resolutions than regular 4K would be great as well.
Anyway I'm highly interested in testing this, even though this is completely new for me. Have never been using an aosp rom, has always been a little bit too debloated for me.

From my experience..
In general use, there are no heat problems.
In general use Youtube vr operates at 1080p.
there are no heat problems.
but image is blurry.
In general use Youtube cardboard option, vrtv is 4k working. but youtube vr is not 4k working.
In adb, qr code setup use Youtube vr is 4k working.
Image is sharpness like youtube cardboard.
but heat problem..
In high temperature and sony stock oreo, the screen turns dark brightness automatically. but There is nothing wrong with the performance.

Hey Mate!
Just want to thank You before accepting the Donation! I promise that i do buy the latest Daydream Headset in Order to make the Patch fully supporting it! You really openend up a big World for Me!
You will get a Special Place on My Patch Threads for allowing Me to get the Hardware for My Development! Really appreciate it, and i'll let You know here with some Pics how it goes from now!
Looking forward to that! Thanks again!
BR
EDIT: Just bought one on Ebay and it will hopefully come very soon!
Think i can say a lot more about all this VR Stuff after being able to use it by myself. That will surely help a lot to bring this forward. And great side effect, i still have My Axon 7, means i can test a official supported Daydream Device too. Should be great to compare!

I saw the special place. I love it^^
Thank you very much for your courtesy to me.
I just want to share my vr experience about Xzp.
I'm looking forward to your work.
Anywhere in the world, I don't find detailed comparison between 2k oled and 4k ips smartphone vr experience.
All devices is not perfect.
there are good points and bad points
there is a good place to use.
I was curious.
Although good video performance,
xzp can not be mentioned in vr battleground.
there are any advantages to use xzp,
I would like to let it know for people.
Someone may use vr with xzp for the first time
because of this thread.
I'll leave a brief piece of information for xzp users.
It's no big deal. People who are interested and experienced may know.
However,
it is better to avoid the stress of first vr experience.
Everything from my experience.
It is subjective. This may not be the correct answer.
------------------------
1.
feel dizzy when use it for the first time.
adaptation Period 2 - 3 days.
------------------------
2.
Wear glasses for the low visibility person.
If vr has a focal adjustment function.
With focal adjustment, you can adjust the focus.
you can see well.
but tired eyes after longtime use.
because the image is so close to eyes.
with glasses,
the image is approximately 1m close to eyes.
1m is comfortable distance for eyes.
-------------------
3.
Each piece of vr headset has its own point of good focus sweet spot. In sweet spot, There's less of a color diffusion. You'll have your own way.
Tips for wearing most vr headset.
It is good to feel comfortable to adjust wearing straps so that it adheres to the forehead with small amount of load on cheekbone.
--------------------
4.
qr code calibration.
I recommand Sitesinvr.com.
There is a famous headset qr code.
It is also possible to create a personal qr code using the sitesinvr app in play store.
---------------------
5.
Xz premium is not dream ready phone.
there is nfc bug.
When using a daydream view 2017 headset or third-party headset, Nfc error message will continue to pop up.
solution.
Feel free to apply anything according to circumstances.
1)
In daydream developer option,
enable skip vr entry scene option
and turn off nfc.
2)
use airplane mode and turn off nfc.
3)
Between the front cover and the smartphone,
attach a piece of 'foil'. No error message occurs even if nfc turn on.
-------------------------
6.
There is a 'drift' issue with all smartphones, gyro sensor, compass.
Even all the vr equipment.
but, Smartphone in particular
To be honest, there is no perfect solution.
I am very sorry about this...
It could be the biggest enemy about Smartphone vr development.
edit.
but we can buy external sensor for daydream.
(now I got information..i'm searching.)
Is Daydream with external sensor called smartphone vr?
Anyway xzp is used.
edit. I don't find useful information.
this inormation is unclear.
<
Drift solution
1) Compass correction.
2) Gyro sensor calibration.
3) avoid Electromagnetic effects.
In vr use I dont't use anything but only daydream bluetooth controller.
( I don't know why. People report being affected.)
4) To find the controller location,
turn on location options.
It seems to affect controller drift or screen drift.
I'm not sure.
As for drift issues,
Google has advised to fully charge the controller.
I think there could be some kind of correction.
and someone recommand location - device only option.
>
There are no gyrosensor and compass compensation options on Xzp.
Use GPS status app.
This app has correction option.
and There is only compass correction option on the Google Map.
From experience,
it is likely to easily occur if you take off your headset countless times.
There are information about drift issues in the reddit.
Each will already have its own solution.
edit.
The 2018 April update for Pixel 2 just fixed the magnometer (drift).
It is said that someone installed it even though it is not Pixel 2.
I don't know that way.

7.
Jiggy screen issue
<
Quoting..
Shelly tom' post in
https://www.reddit.com/r/daydream/comments/7asyyt/daydream_s8_jiggy_screen/
TL;DR - thick phone case or dirty center "nubs" in daydream view may cause that issue.
When it starts shaking and while still wearing it, try pushing on the daydream view flap and phone as if opening it. If the shaking stops the contacts are dirty.
Also, the little center nubs do three things.
they center your view.
they also resize the height from thick phone cases. This is why there are two of them.
they cause your display to jump around or "vibrate" when dirty.
Take the phone out and wipe down the nubs and the device where they meet. It should allow for a better contact and stop the shaking. If it looks clean there could be oil residue.
With curved glass phones, I've observed that thick phone cases may cause the bottom "nub" to not fully make contact on the lower part. Games with more motion from looking around causes the phone to shift slightly up thus causing poor contact on the lower "nub". The poor contact is the source of the shaking screen in this case.
>
Sometimes jiggy screen issue has come up.
so I decide to don't use cases and films on smartphones.
In my experience,
It was convenient not to use cases and films on smart phones. This is a subjective conclusion.
I use smart phone coating liquid instead.
It's a German-made nano tol pro product.
There are a lot of coating products.
----------------------
8. about color and screen door effect
Daydream view 2017 is Fresnel lense.
Fresnel lense doesn't express the difference between the brightest and darkest colors very well.
Have two effects.
1. bad image quality.
2. but reduced screen door effects.
sony stock color mode
1. standard mode is suitable nomral lense(ex antvr)
2. vivid mode is suitable fresnel lense(ex daydream)
vivid mode maximizes the contrast between the brightest and darkest colors. complements the fresnel-lense defect.
edit.
https://youtu.be/IrircflFHzw
( Looking for images related to color, I linked this video.
I'm sorry if it doesn't suit your taste.^^; )
You can see it by changing the color mode settings while watching this video.
You will also notice that the screen door effect is strong on the strong primary colors.
because
In strong primary colors, the brightness contrast between brightest and darknest sub-pixel is maximized...
However,
it should be noted that this is not a regular colored video.
--------
Additional
This is my solution
from daydream view 2017 and vivid mode
If you don't like the color,
increase the color red in white balance setup.
If the screen is yellow, increase the color blue in white balance setup.
edit.
20180425
The higher the resolution, the better it is for the screen door effect. Because at lower resolutions, pixels are clustered together. Screen door effect looks bigger. High resolution is advantageous for the screen door effect.
----------------------
9. heat issue
The foil method is neat, simple.
https://www.gamecrate.com/samsung-gear-vr-tips-tricks-fixes-overheating-devices/12916
Daydream view 2017 has 'heat sink'.
edit.
10.
you use 4k adb command/4k qr code..
don't enable Dashboard Option (in daydream develper option.)
It's not working. You don't move library option in Daydream Home.
disable dashboard option. It works.

A real in depth comparison is hard to find. I can just tell from my personal experience with Galaxy S6, Oculus Rift and now XZP.
I'm curious what can be achieved by software / settings with that 4K display the XZP has, but I'm pretty sure that it'll stil be a "high persistance" display overall and is lacking external "correction". If I remember correctly the Daydream headset has no electronics built in, so the phone is completely on it's own and will most likely start to drift away.... thats one big disadvantage to the GearVR for example. Don't know what regular "Daydream Ready" phones do in that case but I think they might have better calibrated sensors, or just have the same drifting problems.

BR
Edit: Would be interesting how good this works on top of My Patch on AOSP since it has full Support for Daydream and VR (Including Configs, Permissions and Settings + Play Store App Compatibility). Will release it soon and hope somone can test it with a Daydream Headset...

<how to activate chrome canary vr web browsing>
It had worked in other daydream ready phone.
But it did not work on xzp
Maybe xzp is not a daydream ready phone.
but
I noticed that it was running recently in miustone' Xperistockrom-V1848.(I do not check Sony Oreo stock rom operation)
Unfortunately, adb 4k mode does not work.
So the screen is blurry. However, video playback on the web is sharpness like YouTube cardboard(4k working).
It is quite useful..
----------------
adb 4k mode works in chrome 66 version.(not canary)
but screen is black... It's unusable
-------------------
chrome canary vr web browsing.
('Chrome 66 version' activate method is similar.)
1. Install the app : chrome canary
2. searchbar input : chrome://flags
3. Enable everything with VR, XR, or Daydream in its name.
ex)
-VR browsing native android ui
-WebXR Gamepad Support
-VR browsing web input editing
- WebVR
- WebXR Device API
- WebXR orientation sensor device
- WebVR VSync-aligned timing
- WebXR presentation render path
- VR Browsing
- Chrome VR virtual keyboard
- VR browsing experimental features
- VR browsing experimental rendering features
- VR browsing in Custom Tabs
- VR intents
- WEBVR auto presentation from intents
- Chrome icon in Daydream Home
use web broswing in daydream home .

I have listened to the message on your homepage.
I totally agree with your decision on social media homepage.
I think it's a better decision.
Thank you for all your hard work.
I have a close friend who has an iPhone 6s.
He is not usually interested in smartphone and vr.
I gave my friend youtube 4k vr experience with xzp.
He was very interested in flat screen images quality.(especially music video.)
He showed interest in your work I told him.
He said your work would be valuable.
Surface reactions of people in online are unimportant. Everyone who has experienced with xzp, it already knows it.
He who understood, he understands.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

[GUIDE] How to Really improve the gaming framerates on your Mi A1

Yo fellas, its your"rooting enthusiast SenpaiYank (lmao rooting enthusiast, as if such a thing exists)
Well, as you know, our device has a quite outdated and not so beefy (at all) SoC, the snapdragon 625. While its CPU is not tremendously ridiculously bad, the GPU quite is. This is not a prolem to people who don't care about games but a very prominent one on the other side.
With the help of this trick, tweak, whatever you decide to call it, you'll practically be able to play any game out there that you're not able to or play that same game at a higher setting than you would. The trick consists basically on lowering the screen resolution through a script, trading some of the visual quality for a noticeable night day performance boost. It's a common trick that works on other devices too and I've yet to find a game that had problems with it.
I'm using "profile" scripts to achieve it so you can change it on the go. I feel that way is the most ergonomic and quick one. Just run each script with root permissions according to your need. I recommend FX file explorer. Wanna play a graphically intensive game? Switch to gaming profile. Wanna do something else besides gaming? Switch to the default one.
As I side note, the trick can be done on unrooted users too but you'll need a computer and you'll have to apply the gaming profile permanently (unless you're willing to repeat the procedure whenever you want to go back to default). I can talk about it if you guys get interested on it.
Enough blah blah, how do I do it ?1st - Grab both of them (default.sh and gaming.sh)
2nd - Install (in case you don't have it), open and type this on the Terminal Emulator app:
Code:
su
To attain root access (not sure if needed but, just in case)
Code:
wm density
To get your current screen density value at 1080p (override density field).
Lets imagine you got 432.
3rd - Choose and calculate a new resolution for your gaming profile
So now lets ge to the actual work. Our device native resolution is 1080p (1920x1080) and we want to lower that.
I lower it to 810p (not a standard lmao) which is 75% of 1080p (1440x810) as it gives me agood balance between visual quality and performance. You can go even lower to something like 50% if you're ambituous about performance. At 810p I can expect a minimum of 25% performance uplift (not FPS).
So, to get your gaming profile resolution DPI, you multiply the relative percentage of it by the default profile resolution DPI.
Code:
[COLOR="darkred"]432[/COLOR] * [COLOR="RoyalBlue"]0.75[/COLOR] = [COLOR="Blue"]324[/COLOR]
This value will be your gaming resolution DPI a.k.a. the resolution from your gaming mode script.
4th - Edit default.sh and gaming.sh, apply the new values and save the files somewhere.
default.sh script should contain the values of your default resolution, in this case, 1920x1080 and 432. Size for resolution and density for DPI.
gaming.sh script should contain the values of your gaming profile resolution, in this case, 1440x810 and 324.
VOILÁ
To make the process much much easier and quicker, I use FX file explorer and its shortcut feature so I can switch between both profiles from my home screen pretty easily. Whenever I'm not playing a demanding game Is stick to the default mode, whenever I'm playing a graphically intensive game, I switch to the gaming mode and enjoy the improvement.
Cool, cool. So, is there an actual improvement in performance or is this just one of these so called placebo tricks ?It's definately not placebo and probably the most effective way around of increasing gaming performance!
I've tried to record a test with and without the trick (and failed, it doesn't look as effective in the video but I'll leave it here anyway). Take it with not 2 but 3 grains of salt due to all the uncontrallable factors that involved the scene, the actual gain in practical use is much more noticeable. The benchmark takes place in the super duper hot (pun intended) looking and intensive game, Shadowgun Legends.
On the first video, the device is running the Extreme Kernel, without the tweak, along a CPU cap of 2.5Ghz and a GPU cap of 855Mhz (or something around that). I didn't increase it further to prevent the device from overheating (which it already practically was) and because at a higher GPU clock, I would get arctifacts (my device does not support the 922Mhz frequency).
http://sendvid.com/zi9l8q44
On the second video, the device is running a beta batch of the velocity kernel, with the tweak, along a CPU cap of 1.9Ghz and GPU cap of 672Mhz. I ran the device at a lower speed so you can see how useful the improvement can also be.
http://sendvid.com/fqum12jw
I ran the game at the high graphical setting (30 FPS max) on one of its most intesive scenarios and were at very high ambient temperatures (30C) so again, take the videos with a grain of salt. Used an external gamepad to play and used Scrcpy to record the screen (through wifi so, the quality and framerate from the recording is considerably worse than the actual one). You should also remember the 5-6 FPS strain of capturing the screen.
I also used game bench to monitor the framerate (top right corner) where the last 1 minute of each benchmark were with the screen capturing off. Once again, sorry for the bad quality of the recordings, I'll leave a screenshot of the game bench results.
Not willing to write a outro so, yeah, basically thats it
Here's another sample video, of the same game, this time at medium settings. Along the very noticeable smoother gameplay you can also notice how the GPU load goes down from 95-100 to 70-80 and it becomes less of the bottleneck on the scenario. With the gaming profile could I could actually remove the 30 fps cap and run the game at +30.

EMUI Desktop resolution

EMUI desktop resolution seems to be locked to 1080p. I have read on huawei forums that P40's will be able to go beyond 1080p but it's not happening.
Is there a hack, tweak to enforce higher resolution ? My display works on a lot higher resolutions like 2560x1440p. It has USB-C as the input and my notebook can work on 2K resolution easily. I even tried external adapters, and always getting the same result.
Anyone ever managed getting better resolution, this one is chunky, too big icons, can't call it productivity enhancement as they advertise it
