Hardest case - Nexus 4 Accessories

A simple question: of every case available... Which one delivers best protection against falls?
I have a Nillkin Slip cover, but I'm not sure it's thought enough, given the number of broken screens I'm reading about in the forums.
Thanks

I use this one in red
http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Superle...&qid=1384726192&sr=8-3&keywords=nexus+4+acase
Has saved my N4 countless times.

My wife has this case: http://www.seidioonline.com/lg-nexus-4-convert-case-holster-black-p/bd4-hkr4lgn4.htm - it's protected her phone from tons of falls, including from a belt clip while jogging on a concrete and asphalt path.

Technically tpu/gel cases absorb impact better. All comes down to how thick and well constructed it is.

Thank you all.
I'm checking both the Acase and the Seidio, and so the Ballistic I've also read about.

i have this case, highly recommend it
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Impact-Hard...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item53fac63fdc

I drop my phone EVERY night (I fall asleep with it and its always on my tile floor when I wake up) and the stock bumper hasn't allowed a single scratch, chip or crack.

@Cream$ickleHJ: I have that case too but I have trouble accessing the Status Bar. Example: swiping down is difficult. Is their a particular way you do it. I'm thinking of returning it.

@aR3alCoo1Kat:
Take a knife or sandpaper and just rub against the edge taking plastic off until it feels like you can access the status bar better.

Little late to the game but I love my ballistic

this is a late post, but i recommend the Body Glove case if you're looking for a hard case.
T-Mobile sells it for $34, but an Amazon seller has it for $5. You can also find it cheap on ebay.

i am using the mybat tuff case right now and i also have this case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triple-Armo...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item5d43674502
the triple armor hybrid by far,to me, is the best cheap case you can get. its a ballistic replica. it feels real good in the hands and its protection against drops is perfect. i dropped my phone once on tile and nothing was damaged. have yet to drop it in the mybat.
my recommendation would be the triple armor.

I've dropped mine with mybat case twice, once was purposely lol. Second was accidental, I was taking a little nap and had phone on my lap, dropped when I got up, both about tall bed height.
Of course imo probably neither of the two drops would of damaged phone if it were naked either, maybe scratch or two, but just thought I'd share.

In my eyes, official bumper case is your good choice. It is a good protector,
meanwhile it can show you the special beautiful back of nexus 4.

zagg
I really like my zagg invisishield.
I ended up going with case mate tough case, and zagg invisible shield, i personally love both.
I love the feel of the zagg on the touch screen, the look, and how protected it is.
And case mate is by far one of the best cases I've used.
The combo is just nice.

trident cases
I would like to say that i have tried several cases and rubber bumpers and such but none can compare to the trident case i am now using. It is everything u are looking for in the op! Including a built in screen protector! I got mine from a kiosk at my local mall and the guy there was droping his phone from 8ft off the ground over and over just to show the level of protection these cases offer. I wouldnt go that far and im certainly NOT going to drop my phone on purpose but u get the point. Two of my friends have now gotten trident cases from their website after seeing mine. Google trident cases and check them out! Im pretty sure it will b exactly what u are looking for!
Heh, just posted this in another thread, perhaps it helps...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14053579&postcount=21
Pros: inexpensive, thin/snug plastic really keeps the phone thin even with the case on, kickstand folds into the case so it doesn't snag when you pocket it, relatively good looking, get relatively good protection when combined with a screen protector
Cons: doesn't envelop the phone completely so it doesn't protect as well as other cases, a bit on the flimsy side (although I bought a couple in case one breaks)

Otter Box is the best case for this phone.....
http://cgi.ebay.com/OtterBox-Commut...Accessories&hash=item5ae09d4d0e#ht_3365wt_907
def ottercase it is excellent have dropped my phone many times, including down uncarpeted wooden stairs...
although it doesnt tell you anywhere in the directions that you need to pull the rubber headphone jack cover through the hard cover to get it to fit properly when you put it on for the first time...
Wow, thanks for the info on the trident cases. I really liked the OtterBox Defender Series a friend has on his Captivate and was a little bummed when I found out they do not make a Defender case for the Vibrant/SGS4G. I ended up picking up the Commuter case which is very nice, but I'm leaning towards the Cyclops Series from Trident now as its along the same lines as the Defender from OtterBox being just a little more rugged. The Aiges Series from Trident looks almost exactly the same as the Commuter from Otterbox.

Thinnest "Tough" Case?

Hi everybody, this is my first post on these forums, although I have been reading them for over a year! Anyways, I was looking at buying a case for my Sensation that would keep it safe, but at the same time not adding to much bulk. I have narrowed it down to 4 cases, that I'm sure will all offer the level of protection I need, I am just wondering which one is the least bulky and slimmest.

I was looking at the Seidio with the kickstand, but I don't like all the exposed rubber as that would make it more lint-prone, and more difficult to get out of the pocket(one of my top pritorities).
Thanks in advance!!!

i was looking into the naztech but i didnt like how there is a bar on the top of the screen lol. id like to see a review on it. might get the case mate pop
If it helps your decision I had one otterbox which I had to have replaced thru otterbox due to silicone stretches and the phone will actually slide up and down in the case. had the replacement for about a month and just took off the second one today due to complaints of me sounding muffled and any back to the old dependable tpu case even though it is a ***** to get out my pocket and attracts lint it is my fave

Yeah it was super easy due to the hard plastic that covered the silicone layer that is one thin I miss about it and am still on the fence about putting it back on. I will say my phone survived a few high drops ( I am a cable tech and it fell from a ladder about 18 feet to concrete with out a scratch)

Wow, you just made my decision harder.... !!! Haha thanks though, i'm sure i can't go wrong with either of these cases, but I just want to know which is the best.
OK, I'm pretty sure that the Tough Case and Vertex are out:
Tough Case: I saw that the rubber wraps around the screen on the phone, and can attach lint, also, it does seem a bit bulky.
Vertex: Lack of information is difficult. From the pics I don't think it'll work out for me.
Personally I use zagg skins now. They are seriously epic. I have always hated all phone cases because of the bulk they add no matter how thin. But the zagg skins are tough...real tough. And add essentially no weight/thickness to the device. When I got mine i was trying to scratch the back and screen to no avail. zagg also offers a lifetime warranty, but I have no idea what their limits are on it. Plus you can customize it with any picture you want.
Just my opinion. Good luck with your choice.
I have both Case Mate POP and Otterbox Commuter... otterbox has far better plastic because it cant get scratched at all. The case mate pop looks like it's 10 years old after a week. Still I user POP rather than the otterbox because the rubber on otterbox is like a MAGNET for all the dirt that is around you. I used to clean the rubber, and put it in my pocket, and when I get it out it's entirely covered with dust... I don't even know what were they thinking when they were making it. Another thing about the otterbox is that the earphone jack cover never fits like it is supposed to.
I ordered this a week ago because it looks funny
http://www.case-mate.com/HTC-Sensat...-Sensation-Sensation-SE-Tut-Silicone-Case.asp
I will order the case mate tough also... I hope that will be what I want at last
Wow, thanks for the info! So which one of those has a thinner/less bulky form factor, and is easier to get in/out of your pocket?
Case
I bought a Yoobao case off of Ebay, I love it. It is very tough and thin holds the phone tight.
Ehh, thanks for the info, but I already have a TPU and while it is nice and slim, I want something with a little more protection.
I'll put my two cents in, I just got the vertex and I'm very impressed. I've had the commuter and didn't like it. The plastic seemed cheap to me and was too slick. I also had a tpu case that was ok but I didn't think it would protect very well and made the power difficult to press. The vertex is quality, looks and feels very nice and fits great.

Hi, thanks for the input! Does the back material make it easy to get in & out of pockets easily? And also, is it thinner than your otterbox?

Haven't tried the Case Mates yet, nor the Seidio, BUT:
Naztech is a POS - crappy build, plain & simple.
Otterbox's silicone is too damn loose - quoting others here.
Just saying......
Well, I've been on these forums reading for about 5 months now, but this is my first post...
I've had the Casemate Tough Case for the same amount of time I've had my Sensation; about 5 months.
The tough case's hard backing makes it very easy to slip in and out of your pocket. The only exposed rubber is a small section at the top and bottom of the phone and a very thin rim around the screen, the rest is the hard plastic. I never notice that it's collecting lint\dirt, except when I remove the case, there is a small rim of dust collected under the rubber rim, but you can't see it until the case is off.
The exposed rubber parts always look clean and smooth, same goes for the hard plastic outer shell.
The farthest I've dropped my phone with the case on is off the bar... so maybe 4 feet or so? No damage to the phone or the case.
I haven't tried out any other smartphone cases, so I don't have a large frame of reference, but I haven't had a single issue with the tough case. Hope this helps!

Have you actually tried the naztech case? I'm sitting here right now literally starting at it trying to find a problem with something and I can't. I can't compare it with the tough case but its better than the otter.
Like I said before, and I don't know if this even matters, the naztech has cut outs for all the holes on the back cover, none of the other two piece cases have that feature.
As far as the plastic, the naztech has a rubberized back which makes it easier to hold than the otter but still slides into a my pocket easy.
i think you guys should check momax case....
For what it's worth...
I picked up one of these on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055DHCKS/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Inexpensive, fits very well, easy to slip on and off, isn't a lint magnet, reminds me of the great Boxwave slip cover I had on my Nexus One.
Highly recommended.

Found some pretty good cases at a cheap price.....

Have a couple of these for my phone. They actually work very well and fit nicely. My phone came with one and I decided to buy another. Nice thig is the more you buy the more color combinations you can come up with. Here are a few pictures. To fin just type (Samsung i727 hybrid) into ebay and search through all the different colors. Not bad for under $10

Cool idea mixing n matching. My girl has one of these on her skyrocket. Good case indeed for the price.
I've seen them, but didn't give them too much thought because they seemed "cheap" in the sense of net being very good. Thanks for the real world update! :good:
I have been looking around for a good case, i had the otter box and its a great case but hard to get in and out of your pocket..... does the rubber on this case make it dificult to slide in and out of your pocket?
I recommend everyone take a look at the Ballistic Case line. I haven't found anything with this much protection. Check the Nexus S variant on Amazon for awesome reviews. TPU backing makes sliding in and out of your pocket a breeze.
The rubber corners that go a bit in front of the screen are without a doubt the best protection I've ever come across. No worries at all about any future drops, the extra few mm of bulk are worth it without a doubt.

I havent found any issues at all going in and out of my pocket. Being the skyrocket is very light (compared to my htc vivid) i would think that drops with this case would be more than effective at protecting it. This combined with a good screen guard is pretty good. Once and a while if you take your phone out of your pocket quickly you will notice the rubber on one of the corners might start to come off but it happens very rarely and its easy to pop the phone back in. I never liked the silicone cases but with this having the solid support that wraps around on all 4 sides it works very well. It also protects to hard keys on the sides and both the charging port and headphone jack. I like it better than the speck case i had for my vivid.
I am very anal about what I buy to protect my devices and I am inpressed with these. I will be buying one every payday until I have all the different colors that I want. I think I paid 7.99 with free shipping and had it here in 3 buisness days. Don't get me wrong though if you are very tough on your phone then I would recommend the Otter Box, Speck Candy shell or the Casemate Tough Series. But for most people these are more than satisfactory. Th rubber on the corners are pretty tough like that of the balistic cases. The case is just thick enough to keep the sensitive homekeys on the bottom from touching your face during a call.

I heavily disagree about Ballistic brand cases being easy to take in and out of pockets....my gf has one for her I727 and it's impossible to take in and out of pockets, puraes, etc.
That being said, that case has survived quite a few nasty falls. The protection is the best I've seen.

Perhaps. The in/out of pocket is really a relative opinion unfortunately since some consider any resistance a huge annoyance. I can see the corners being an issue though, especially if you like to keep the phone in front Jean pockets.

To be honest I'm not sure which will fit. I had the otter box and the pt case combo for my inspire and I didn't like either one. Just gets in my way a lot. I like having it in my pocket anyways. Is there a built-in screen protector on any of these cases? Some of the descriptions are unclear, and a built-in would be nice. Having to adhere one to the screen makes my Otterbox Defender unusable, as it would peel the protector off every time.
My mom bought one of these off ebay for her Galaxy S2 and she really liked it. I was considering one for my Skyrocket, but I ended up getting a standard silicone case. I've always had problems with my phone sticking in my pocket. This hybrid case was easier to get in and out of pockets but the rubber parts on the corner did stick a little. After a couple of months, though, I noticed that the plastic part of this hybrid case had cracked in several areas. I'm not sure how it got cracked, because she hasn't dropped the phone or anything. If anyone is interested I can try to post pictures, assuming I can find where she put the damaged case.
I'd definitely be interested in seeing that. I took my Defender off last night (found it was causing some heat issues with ICS) and put a Zagg screen protector on, which more or less rules out the possibility of using the Defender again. I'm torn between one of the other Otterbox cases or a handful of these.
I have this cheapo http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Kicks...423428?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a1fef9d04
very similar type of design with the built-in kickstand. Personally the rubber hasn't given me any issues.
FYI, you can find virtually all of these cases on Amazon for less (including shipping) than eBay. Just search "i727 hybrid". If you're planning to mix and match, keep an eye on the manufacturers. Mybat and Case-Xpro seem to be the same company (or, at least, identical designs), but Dragoncell, which makes the cases shown in the OP, uses a different size of plastic mesh than Mybat/Case-Xpro do.
I'm going to order one Dragoncell, one Mybat and one Case-Xpro and see how much I like each. I'll post results here. I mean, $25 for 3 cases (incl. shipping) isn't much to complain about.

[Review] Exact Armor Case

Hey guys,
I just wanted to give a short review of a case I'm using, because I absolutely love it. It's the Exact Armor Case.
I bought it a week and a half ago, at the time it was only $3.95, at the time of me writing this it is $7.95 on Amazon. It's VERY similar to the Ionic Guardian Armor Case. There was some concern because I believe that on Amazon this case in the pictures doesn't show a cut out on the back for the speaker, but it does indeed have one.
It feels really good in the hand. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the dots on the back, but they ended up not being bad, and really make it so the phone doesn't slide out of your hand/off a table when you are holding it/sitting it down. I also have an i-Blason TPU case and I liked it but wanted something with a little bit more protection. I love the rubbery cover on the buttons on the Exact case, it makes it incredibly easy to push those buttons, which were more difficult to push on the i-Blason case in my opinion.
It feels really good and sturdy in the hand, and I love the way it feels. It doesn't add any more then the i-Blason case does when you're holding it in my opinion, except for on the corners, but you don't really notice those when holding it. All of the ports (mini USB and headphones) are accessible, however when I tried to plug a headphone jack from my car in it was a little too big and didn't fit in the hole cut in the case, but using a pair of headphones fits just fine.
I'm usually rough on phones, and so I wanted to get a sturdy case until hopefully an Otterbox comes out, which I will then buy and see if I like it more then this case. I HAVE dropped my phone twice over the past 72 hours or so using the case, and there was no damage to the phone. Once was getting out of my car and the phone fell onto gravel, and the second was just when I was pulling it out of my pocket I dropped it. (Yes, I'm clumsy, and I need to try harder to keep it safe.) There is no damage at all to the phone.
The front of the case does slide over the front, so you can sit the phone screen down and it doesn't touch whatever is underneath it. There is a small lip there, but so far it hasn't deterred me in anyway touching the screen/typing/swyping.
Please feel free to ask any questions, I'll be more then happy to answer. And before anyone asks, I just put on a Xtremeguard Screen Protector on literally 5 minutes before I took the pictures, so if the screen looks weird that's why, as it has to dry out and such.
If anyone asks, I can also talk about the i-Blason case a little.
I can't post links to the cases above because I don't have 10 posts yet :/ Just search on Amazon, you'll find them all, and after I post 10 times I'll come back and add the links in.
Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Exact-Armor-Google-Nexus-Smart/dp/B00AAKM44K
I have this case also. For such a bargain I'm astounded by its quality. :good:

Nobody knows for sure but like most of the stuff in production you can probably expect it will be released before the end of January.
I think chances are you will get this one and then decided (unless you some how destroy it) that you don't want to shell out for an Otterbox.

Thanks for posting the link! Gotta start posting more and stop lurking so much It's amazing quality, especially since I got it when it was only $4.

It's terrific quality, and super cheap, and who knows, even if Otterbox comes out with one, I like this one an awful lot!
I would really like to get this case but the shipping to Canada kills the deal. $13 is more than the case itself. Anyone know if someplace else sells this case? EBay has nothing.

Only there's no Otterbox case in production for the Nexus 4. Alas.
I got this case when it was $3.95 as well, great deal.
My TPU case was causing problems with my Skinomi screen protector but no problems with this case.
I currently have this case on... It sometimes lifts my xo skin screen protector so I have to push the screen protector down. For those who need even more protection there is a case on ebay called the Rugged Hybrid case, for 10-12 buck. The case is a beast but I'm waiting for someone to review on it before I purchase one.

Is the lift because of the slight inward flex around the edges that one gets when gripping the phone? or is it always in contact with the XO?

It's because of the inward flex around the edges when I grip it. It does seem like the case is always in contact with it, but doesn't pull up the protector unless I grip it tight or push on it.

Just received my case earlier today and I have to say it may be my favorite. I own the iBlason in black, Diztronic TPU in black as well as the Cruzerlite Androidified in white. The price vs. protection offered is astounding. I have to say it is very much comparable to my parents Ballistic Shell Gel Series case they both have on their Galaxy S III. The material isn't quite as "nice" as the Ballistic but for a $7 case, comparing it to a $30 from Ballistic or $15 on Amazon, it is certainly a no brainer.

Anyone want to comment on whether the case grips your pocket? That's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on this over the diztronic you case.

Mine is fairly easy to pull out of my pocket. I don't wear super tight pants, but if I did it might be a problem. The rubbery part on the case is a lint magnet when you put it in your pocket but it isn't bad putting in or pulling out.

Spigen Tough Armor

I got my Spigen Tough Armor for the s5 on Tuesday, and it's by far my favorite case I've owned for any of my devices. Definitely prefer this to Lifeproof and Otterbox overall. You can find it on Amazon here.
It's slim, the buttons click easily, and the heart rate monitor and fingerprint reader work like a charm. Only issue is until you get used to it it is a bit difficult to get the charging cover open, but after a day or two of doing it it's pretty easy.
Says it's compatible with Spigen's glass screen protectors as well, I'll be getting one soon.
Thanks for the quick review and pictures!
Do you feel this case adds a lot of bulk to the phone?
According to the product page, the case adds approximately half a centimeter to every dimension. In the hand, it doesn't feel like your phone is any thicker due to the beveled edges.
I just received my Gunmetal Tough Armor case today & there's a good chance I'm going to like it more than the Otterbox I had on my previous phone.
I hate the fact that you can see the plastic bezel on most of the new cases for the S5. That's what I'm trying to cover up with the case!
How secure do you feel holding it? I was very surprised that the case felt very slippery with the hard plastic shell. Debating returning it or trying to spray plastidip to give it some grip.
Also ordered this case can't wait for it to arrive

just ordered an Electric blue one since thats the color phone i wanted but couldn't get. I originally bought a case from best buy which I'll keep till this one comes but I don't like the fact that it slides on from the top and bottom, those cases always F' up screen protectors...

how are you using the fingerprint sensor? which finger and position?
I wonder if it'll work with the wireless charging back cover....
For the ones who have the case, does the bottom plastic part (right below the home button) move around when using the fingerprint features? I have the spigen tpu case and the bottom part below the home button is too flexible.
I have a tough armour and yes it is. It's TPU and a bit thin so does "flex" when you use the finger print reader.

Just got this case today. LOVE the case. I feels comfortable. and im sure if i dropped it, it'd protect it just fine. Only problem, if you have slight bigger fingers, the heart monitor can be a bit difficult to use. But i'd still recommend this case to anyone. A must have
I got the Slim Tough in electric blue, love it. I thought the Tough looked slippery on the back, so I got the Slim Tough. I do like the Slim Tough look more though.
It was tough trying the Spigen case as I have used the Case-Mate tough case for my last three phones and loved it, but no regrets now.
Also works well with the Spigen Glas.tr screen protector.

SO i thought the heart monitor was hard to reach, turns out i was doing it wrong. As long as you just place your finder the spot, it works just fine. So this case is a 5 out of 5
I was looking at this case and the Luvvitt Ultra Armor. Bought the ultra armor. Very happy with it for $13. Either looks like an awesome choice.
anyone have a comparison of the tough armor vs. slim armor?? I like both and not sure which one to get.

I have both of them and much prefer the tough armor.
Forgive me, but my slim armor is at home, so i can't offer pictures until later. I disliked the way the slim armor gripped the front of the phone around the edges of the screen. The left and right sides encroached on the face of the phone about a mm more than the top/bottom. This meant that the bit of metal around the edge only showed at the top/bottom. It drove me batty. I like the feel of the tough armor more as well.

I bought this case before the release haven't got it yet, Looks nice. I got the incipio tough armor case in store on release day, kept the order for the spigen case in case its any better, but it sure does look nicer.
Got mine yesterday.
It's kind of nice yet I thing the power and sound button are now very hard to press.
Also it become complicated to open the usb cover (doable with a pen though)
