AT&T S4 4.3 KNOX information - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I've seen a lot of questions about KNOX during the time of the MJ9 update and there is a lot of mis-information about it. I am going to try to clear a few things up and put some links that might help explain KNOX. I will probably not maintain this thread because it is an informative thread and not really a development thread. Please feel free to add or correct any information (verified) that might help others.
Here is Samsung's KNOX website that included information and the "KNOX" store:
https://www.samsungknox.com/en
Basically, KNOX is meant for business and enterprise applications as fully described by the above link. KNOX is NOT a single app, it is an entire security solution implemented by Samsung that uses an entire suite of apps to accomplish it's needs.
There are a lot of people asking about, "Why the AT&T 4.3 update does not include KNOX?" The simple answer is that it DOES. It must be activated for administrative privileges on the phone under Settings / Security / Device Administrators. What the AT&T S4 and NOTE 3 4.3 phones failed to include is the app that allows for the creation of separate profiles "KNOXstub.apk". This is completely AT&T's fault. Here is a link to the NOTE 3 forum that better tells the story:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470278
Again, that is from the Note 3 forum but most of the information applies to the AT&T S4 as well.
**UPDATE** The app "Knoxstub.apk" from the Note 3 forum thread above has been confirmed as working with the S4. If you use it, make sure to give proper credit and thanks to that thread's creator (OP) and the person that supplied the apk. (he is mentioned in the thread). Also, make sure you read that ENTIRE thread for information about possible negative interactions between KNOX, root, and other modifications. There is always a possibility something could go wrong so the risk is yours.
Here is a link to the "Knoxstub" apk that was posted in the Note 3 forum. Thanks jimlmackjr for re-uploading it for the S4 community.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i4b4seez92j2mhx/KNOXStub.apk
.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
There is an app on the PlayStore that is for AT&T phones:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.knox.app.container&hl=en
This app might only be compatible with the Note 3, I can't test it because I am on MDL. However, it is the profile creation app (called KnxAppLoader on the playstore).
**UPDATE** The app at the playstore was reported as showing "incompatible" with an AT&T 4.3 S4, which means it is probably for the Note 3. So, the extracted app method will be the better bet at working or maybe the playstore app can be side loaded?).
..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
If this app is not compatible to the AT&T 4.3 S4, it might be possible to extract the Knoxstub.apk from an Internation I9505 4.3 ROM or firmware and install it on the AT&T S4 with 4.3. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNTESTED FOR THE AT&T S4! However, the Note 3 forum was able to do the same thing with the International version on the Note 3 (again, information about this is in the Note 3 forum link above). Here is a link to a thread in the I9505 General forum that has the newest stock 4.3 (International 4.3) firmware. Again, credit goes to the threads OP. This stock firmware can also be downloaded from SamMobile.com:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252982
Download the latest International (I9505) stock firmware (MJ9) and extract the Knoxstub.apk.
If it works, the apk should install like any other apk and start loading additional files that will include the profile manager apk.
1. Again, there is always risk involved.
2. This is all as of yet untested.
3. As of now, there is no ODIN file for MJ9 and no way to "fix" the phone if it messes up!
Hopefully this information will help clear up some confusion over KNOX and maybe help people to obtain the profile manager apk they are looking for.
Good luck.

This app does not work with my s4. Just letting you know.

Are you talking about the app from the play store? Does it say not compatible? Or was it compatible, downloaded, but still would not work?
Or are you talking about the app extracted from a I9505 ROM? Thanks.

Yes, the app from the play store. Says not compatible.

OK, thank you. I think the app extracted from the stock i9505 4.3 ROM might be a better bet.

After reading through that thread on the Note 3 board, I would use extreme caution before attempting to enable Knox, especially if your device is rooted. There are multiple people in that thread reporting problems such as FC boot loops.

i now have knox on my phone. woohoo:victory:

That is part of the reason why I included that information (thread). It is always the users responsibility to take responsibility. As of now, safe root for the AT&T S4 (4.3) does not exist yet, but even people that used the banned method of rooting need to be aware of possible risk. Fortunately, I also noticed that people without root didn't seem to have problems and those with root that did seemed to have problems with apps such as "X-posed" as well. I think KNOX has a problem with root in general. So, like yourself, people need to read all available information before they try something. If something has already been posted and identified as an isuue, there should be no excuse for bringing it up afterwards as an issue.
This is from the one of the reviews of the app on the play store:
Those who want to Uninstall. Open app, enter password. Click menu then go to settings. There is an option to uninstall this.
I do not know if this option is in the pre-installed app as well, but if it is, it might provide a way to uninstall the profile Manager app if problems occur. Let me be clear. I do not know if the option exists in the pre-installed app and I am not positive it will clear up any issues that might exist even if it does exist and is used. Perhaps just disabling KNOX in device administrator would work or maybe freezing KNOX components will work. At this point it is all untested and no one knows. As mentioned, fortunately, it appears that the only people having issues (in the NOTE 3 forum) are because of conflict with root and root associated apps.

Thanks for posting about this. Did you use the "extracted app" method? And if so, from which stock i9505 ROM? Did everything during the isnstall go smooth? Again, thanks.

If you don't mind saying, was it the link from the Note3 thread that you got it from? I'm just trying to be clear on what works versus what doesn't to save others a little time. Again, thanks.

If so, The OP, post# 6, and the Note 3 thread (which the OP said to make sure to read) stated that there are issues with "root" and KNOX.
Post# 8 might have a way to uninstall the app but it is untested / unverified.

Welcome to CleanTOOL! This is a quick little script I whipped up to clean up all the bloat on the AT&T One X. The script uses adb pm commands to disable the bloat. Bloat will NOT come back after a reboot! They are gone until hard reset or you enable them again. This does not REMOVE it only DISABLES it! It does not change or delete any system files!!!
As seen on XDA Developers Portal for the Rezound: CleanTOOL – The Relentless Pursuit of Clean!
Note:
Apps will still show up in Market and request to be updates as normal. This is because they are still physically on the device. Updating them in Market does not re-enable the app! You can safely update the app without turning it on.
Instructions:
Root device if not already Rooted! I used this method here: [ROOT] One Click HTC One X (AT&T/Rogers/Others) (Win/Mac/Linux)
Install HTC USB Sync Drivers if not already installed
Download package from download link and extract to your desktop
Enable USB Debugging on Phone
Connect Device to PC in Charge Only Mode
Run "CleanTOOL 1.1"
Choose your options
Enjoy bloat free goodness!
If you are on Linux and or Mac and want to port the tool to those OS'es then be my guest!
Changes in this version (5/14/2012)
Added error trapping if incorrect selection was made
Added the ability to re-enable just myAT&T Wireless if desired

Question, when you say "disable" you mean delete from the phone OR use the disable feature from ICS?
No unlocked bootloader for this phone and dev support is already taking off! I'm using the Asian XL ROM, but I just wanted to say thanks to all you devs for your support.

just a friendly tip,
i think for option 6 (enable all) you meant to say "options 3 & 4" instead of "1 & 2"

thanks for the tool!
Just an FYI, ran the full-debloat (Option 5) on my stock ROM rooted, and the debloat ran fine. After Android came back up and displayed the GUI, The Android store began to download about 5 of the disabled APPS. I had auto update on Wifi turned on. It was easy enough to stop the download and disable auto-update on those detected apps. No biggie. Big thanks to Scott!

No the point of the tool is to keep the device able to return to stock in a jiffy. I will make more stuff soon that will be good. Just got to playin' with the phone last night about 1:00am and this was a must have for now.
IM going to use Paul's scripts and start on some custom ROMS or at a minimum get some mods going.
Also, I expect all my threads to remain civil at all times. If someone has a question that is answered in the OP I would prefer you just quote the OP or let me respond. Lets not turn things ugly over a little question.
Everyone was a newb once or missed something in an OP before. No reason to bring pitch forks! Lets have a good "Clean" time here

That is correct. They remain on the phone there for Market sees them as apps that are there but they do not actually run any more. Thats why I say its "Safe" because you are not "physically" modifying anything on the phone other than hitting a switch in Android to shut them off.

[Q] Kno App

I have a problem with the Kno app. It did not come preinstalled on my note 10.1 N8000. So, I went ahead and downloaded from the google play store, then the problem. Problem was that I cannot properly use the kno app to its full potential, the pen layer is missing and a whole lot of problems. I called Kno and they told me that the app from the google play store is not optimized for the note 10.1 and I have to get it from the samsung app store, so, I went to the app store but did not find the app there. Right now, I can read books on the kno app from the google play store, highlight, put some post it note and the journal, BUT, for the pen layer and other functions, it's not available. The app is just useless if I cannot write on it because then, it won't be like my textbook because I cannot write my little anecdotes on the sides. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
You will need someone to extract the apk from a rooted note. I would, but I didn't root this tablet yet. It isn't a paid program, so I don't forsee a problem. Although I would expect that updating your Talley to jb, would have added on the program if you didn't have it,.

I already updated to 4.1.1 JB using the germany Rom. It still wasnt there and I had to download from the google play store. When you get to root yours, will you extract it for me? I dont know how to extract apk. Thanks for the info
It's quite a useful app, especially for students! Helps me save backpack space, lol.
Here ya go. Copy to System>App folder and change permissions, or try installing it normally. After you install it, If it isn't working properly, you'll have to edit your build.prop to make it as a Note 8013.

Editing your build.prop will make programs think your device is another device. In this case, it won't have many or any cons since you're just editing it to make it look like another Galaxy Note 10.1 device; very minor change. You want to use a File Manager to goto System and copy build.prop somewhere to your SD Card. For extra safety, make two extra copies. You should also do a ClockWork recovery BACKUP first just in case something goes wrong. I don't think it will though...*crosses fingers* >.>
Open the build.prop on your SD with a text editor like the Dropbox Text Editor. You want to change the following lines to look like this:
ro.product.model=GT-N8013
ro.product.name=p4notewifiue
ro.product.device=p4notewifi
Reboot your device and you should be good to go
If anything goes wrong, restore your backup in recovery or if the device still boots but with errors, copy the original build.prop back to system folder
Need to be rooted first though.
Basically, easiest solution would be someone with a stock ROM, but rooted with titanium backup, extract the program into an apk.

thats actually what I was looking for, someone with the stock rom. Because the people at Kno told me that the problem is that the one from the google play store is not yet optimized for the galaxy note 10.1. He said that the special apps were pre installed on the n8013 galaxy note that are sold here in the US. So, yes, If a kindhearted soul who has a rooted n8013 with the pre-installed KNO textbooks app could upload their apk file, I would forever be in your debt...I really need this to work because my NCLEX exams are coming up and I was hoping that for the review, I don't have to bring like tons of REALLY thick nursing books with me to the review.
I am on the stock ROM, lol. What I posted was the stock n8013 app -_-
Try this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gs4tct7cn5a8unh/KnoProd28[1].apk
That is the exact apk I am using with the S-Pen features. It is 100% stock Samsung. If it doesn't work, it's because you're on the n800, and not the n8013. That's why I said u have to edit ur build.prop. If it works, then good lol.

Samsung Multi-pane port for 7.0

From the original development and port from @gruesomewolf, Here's an original port "ported" to the Galaxy Tab3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2186621
^THE ORIGINAL GALAXY S3 MULTIWINDOW THREAD WHERE THE ZIP POSTED ABOVE ORIGINATED
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48162713&postcount=4"
I found that the multi-pane or multi-task wasnt included in the 7.0 version of the Galaxy Tab 3 and got really frustrated. After unlocking my Tab with root/TWRP/xposed framework and finally putting together a decent setup and performance, i pushed in my final touch. I found today that there is already a flash able zip for the Galaxy S3 older firmware and found it works just as well so we will use this untill I/we change the dpi for a 7.0 screen.
Still needs some dpi adjustments but none the less works well, except for the rare crashes and multi-window not working.
My port was based off of the 8.0 firmware and crashed more frequently than this zip.
DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1y4nluibgrnhy14/MultiView_Universal.zip
(Someone mirror)
Requirements
:Most recent Tab3 7.0 firmware (4.1.2)
:TWRP or Custom Recovery
Instructions
:Flash zip into your rom (easy) or push via adb if your experienced
:Wipe Cache
:Reboot
Bugs
:Multi-Window does not work but the Multi-Task does work (This could be because of the firmware capadibility or screen dpi size)
:Crashs or FCs when memory is filled

I dont know who the original author is but thankyou and if your name is found, you will be mentioned.
Stock firmware modders should include this in their roms to improve tablet experience and focus on improving it for us. (Im busy with my own projects =3 but feel free to PM)

first things first....i'm not sure if u know who i am but i have personally ported the multiwindow mod to several other devices (also i have already been working on a tab 3 version...will provide the link below). Although i did NOT create this particular mod I DO know who did (will provide link to original thread below as well...i also will include the original mirror) and while this is an awesome find this zip is EXACTLY the same as the original so lets make sure they get proper credit in the OP because we wouldnt want the thread getting closed. With that said i would like to say thanks for this great discovery since u have basically found the proper "branch" of multiwindow that works with the 7 inch version. My main question is when u mention "multi-window not working" do u mean that the actual split screen function is not working? If so then this will be a major disappointment for most users expecting to come here and download an actual functioning flashable mod...if it does in fact already work as it is supposed to then could u please provide a few screenshots of the mod in action (DUAL/SPLIT SCREEN) Also...can i get a full list of bugs/glitches that u have encountered? Using these files as a base i should be able to complete the mod for u guys (if it isnt working yet) within the next day or so if everything goes well...if the short flashbar is the only problem then it can be fixed by setting the dpi of the flashbarservice.apk to 320 in the app settings xposed module

actually thats not a problem...i ported multiwindow to several devices the first being the galaxy tab plus/p6200 and what i had to basically do is flash note 8 files to get it to work. THIS is the problem....no one else has confirm that their tab will even boot after flashing this zip not to mention that the multiwindow feature does not even work.
@Nx Biotic
i'm curious....EXACTLY what do u mean when u say "multi task" is working? By that are u talking about the flashbar/launcher on the left side of the screen? Also...no one else can confirm that this even boots so did u flash or manually load it on your system?
Thanks man. It is really working. Here is some screenshot. Gotta test more. No problem so far except the one you said. Dpi issues

Ok guys...we should be able to get this thing working with a few more tests zips. As of right now i have 3 ideas starting with a continuation of the original tab 3 multiwindow thread we"ve been working in...i will link to one attempt below and will be back with test 6 in about an hour. Test 7 will take a lil longer since will have to go through the code line by line...hopefully it wont even be necessary
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Install "samsung multiwindow manager (note 10.1)" from the play store (do NOT patch anything when i asked...this step is not mandatory but u will want to use this to enable some more apps since the default ones may not work)
2. Edit your build prop by adding the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the bottom of the file, save then reboot into recovery
3. Flash the Test 5 zip below
4. You should now notice navigation buttons at the bottom...press the up arrow/miniapps tray and try some of the apps (please be aware that the stock samsung apps may force close and will need to be replaced...also launching from the flashbar/left launcher will still probably not work)
5. If u experience a force close when pressing the home/back buttons then you can remove the build prop edit and wait for Test 6 which will focus on fixing the flashbar

[Fix] NA1/NA5_Work around to enable installation of non-market apps and disable googl

Hello Users/Readers:
I'm just your average Falsh-o-holic, who combs through all of the S4 threads to find what's been accomplished/useful information. I have not come across this work around, so I decided to post this info users of the NA1/NA5 Roms who cannot access the Security, settings option.
Disclaimer:
Use this info at your own risk. I am not responsible if this breaks your device.
I am posting this info using my XDA app. I also did this without the need of a PC. Please do not ask for links. Everything I used can be found on this web site, play store or google, except for the kernel. I'll try to be specific. Feel free to add links if you want to help other Users.
My Phone/ROM info:
Confimed working on an US AT&T SGH-I337 S4. I believe this will work on all S4 models. I currently am running Echo Rom v14 (NA5), with old bootloader and wifi working kernel (had to flash the loki doki.zip as well, which can be found all over the AT&T S4 thread).
Links of this kernel have sadly been removed.
I also use the AT&T MK2 modem - I intitially got 4G speed/icon.
I had to preform a few adjustments to the build prop and created a new PTA apn to achieve a stronger LTE connection.
I flahed the Att CSC fix zip (Can be found on the Virgin Rom thread in the OP.) as well.
Tools needed for this permission edit:
SQLite Editor or similar app.
I used SQLite Editor v2.0.1
Solution:
1) Using SQLite editor (in the apps menu) I scrolled down to the Settings Storage app and selected it/pressed it.
2) On the next screen I selected/pressed on the settings.db option.
3) Find the line that reads - install_non_market apps (line 19 for me) and press on it/select it. Then select the edit option (pencil icon top of the screen).
4) Change the value from 0 to 1 and save.
5) In the same menu, navigate to the line that reads - package_verifier_enable (line 86 for me) and change the value from 1 to 0 and save.
Last - Reboot your device and enjoy installing apks from your external/internal storage cards, xposed app, etc., without access to the Security settings option.
Please do not make any other changes because you can possibly harm your device.
These 2 simple edits will stop the current FC's we experience when trying to install and app without using the play store and disable the annoying pop-up thak asks if you want google to check for harmful blah, blah, blah. Will work even if you've pressed OK already, which I did my mistake.
Again feel free to post links to assist other Users. I Hope this helps everyone with old (4.3) bootloaders who cannot access these setting.

I would love to but do not have the proper hardware to do so. I have laptop running with an AMD64 processor, but it came installed with Vista,32 bit. I also have a desktop with Windows 8,32 bit. From what I've read a PC running a 64 bit OS is necessary. Let me know if there is some I can do with my equipment. I've never tried to build because of this but would do so if I could.

You wouldnt even have to build it my friend
You grab the build one (i.e. v14) and you make it so that Americans (which i have soooo many friends i want them to be happy) can use it
Thats all
No need to cook it from scratch! You will be grabbing the latest Echoe everytime
No pressure my friend at all!!
I thought it would be awesome way especially for Americans to be on the 4.4.2
And there is no way i could do it and fully support another thread....
No hurry!! We can talk any details you want my man!!
I was impressed about your discovery here!! I love to see this kind of thinking!! Thats what got me to discover the"wifi trick" for the 4.3... Thinking completely paradoxically and "outside of the box"

Great find. I had already changed build prop to att and did a dirty flash to get most of my app installed but this will allow those that didn't to work. It makes the Echoe a truly workable Rom for ATT users and a DD candidate. I agree with Friedrich420 this is what the forums are about,
Edit: Tried this and still have a problem with downloading some apps. Get a pop up "can't store internal storage or sd card"
Hmm. Just tried "sqlite editor pro free" and when I got to settings.db to open it, it gives me "an error occurred while opening the database". Rebooted to make sure everything was settled, but still no luck. Went to buy the $2.99 version of sqlite editor, but it couldn't install onto either my sd card or internal memory. Might be the rom, but this leads to the whole point of needing the work around. Maybe a lost cause.

Just thinking this could be posted in AT&T like GE rom where you have a zip that changes the 4g icon, build prop and security setting in 1 zip to make it AT&T. What WIFI issues? do they exist on MLD bb?

[APP][MOD] Spotify Tablet MOD 2.3 to 5.0 Devices (Disable Random Restriction)

Here is Spotify APK moded to disable random restriction on player for GB+ devices. Looking everywhere for an alternative for TabletMetrics Xposed Module found @ViRb3 post . He had managed to modify Spotify app, but the version of his app requires API level 15 and GB is on API9 level. And his version of API9 Spotify app wasn't installing in our GB devices. So starting from @ViRb3 ideas (half-way explained) in his post I decided to decompile Spotify and find my way. (Later I will give more technical details on how I achived it)

Seems to work! My GB tablet still shows the 'shuffle play' button when I choose an album, but if I choose the first track, it continues through the album in order. Will report back if anything changes.

I have an idea that could save us time... find an official Spotify.apk that works on your device. Send it to me and I'll apply the mod on it. To make sure the problem is the mod or you device is incompatible with the version I uploaded. And remember Spotify must not be installed on the device when you try to install modded app

Well sir. I can't send you an apk of the official spotify but the latest working on my device is v1.2.5.3 hope it helps: )

Please enable Debug on your device and send me logcat file. Connect your device via usb, start cmd on a folder that contains "adb.exe" and run this command just before trying to install the modded app "adb logcat -v long > logcat.txt", try to install it, close cmd after installation fails. (Probably you already know this but to be sure). Can download adb.exe with dependencies here.

@lukss12 First of all THANKS for your apk, that works well on my old gingerbread smartphone. The problem of markjerald is the apk version uploaded.
The spotify apk uploaded doesn't work with all gingerbread phone with 320x240 of resolution, because the version varies with device (indeed it didn't worked on my brother's smartphone with resolution of 320x240 too).
So if someone uploads his untouched apk of his smartphone gingerbread with 320x240 of resolution (as samsung galaxy y,samsung galaxy pocket and ecc....),and you makes a signed version of its , it will work

I can't give you the apk. My brother doesn't want to make root on his smartphone because it is under warranty and he is not here with me that i can help him for whatever operation (he is bad for these things)
So, if @markjerald can.....
I'm using N9005 note 3, I'm on S5 ported rom android 4.4.2 with lean kernel version 3.14. I was unable to log in with Facebook account. It says invalid key hash.

It's not necessary to create spotify account, you can use Spotify Login with your facebook username and password directly on Spotify Welcome Screen
