hi, can someone tell me what video/movie player with codecs specifically works on nexus5? i tried BSplayer and mobo player and i don't get video, its just black screen and audio works fine, just no video,
thanks
using latest moboplayer and bsplayer
should i try mxplayer?
Have you tired using the alternate HW encoding feature? I believe it's in the preferences somewhere. I think the app actually has a little warning sign to try this if you are having problems with BS. I use it on my N5 without problems but my current videos are MP4 formats. Have tried any others.

Try DICE Player or VLC. Both works great.

a player that encode it on the phone while playing is mobo player and i use handbrake to convert it on my laptop! i think this is what you want to hear!
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
+ 1 for mobo player or rockplayer, with these u won't need to re encode anything.
DICE Player. Plays 720p mkvs smooth.
Look no else.
Good alternative is MoboPlayer and RockPlayer though. But if you want to watch MKVs and all that, DICE Player is what you're looking for.
Are any of them free i dont want to pay off the dtore as ibread that my bank will charge me as a import currency

Look for the post in general that I replied to someone asking the same question. Miro video converter is the easiest but no batch processing. Pick nexus preset.
Hello, just want to ask is anybody know why my screen turned to render green while playing any video file?

What Player are you using? Assuming it's something naff like the default one, i would recommend using a better one from the Market. Try vplayer, moboplayer... or any of the other decent ones.
Did it do the same when on Gingerbread?
If not, I'd reccomend an alternative player as Dirk suggested
Thanks for replying..i'll try other player on market 1st..just want confirmation is anyone using this ROM in incredible s exprienced the same problem?

Maybe Your roms hw codecs are messed up, but you have let developers to fix it, but you can use mx video player to watch videos on your phone but it doesn't work with online videos, with mx when you start to play video, right top on your screen there should be box with hw, sw or sw fast reading in it if it says hw, press the box and change it to sw or sw fast

I have the lorax blue ray rip. Its 720p, 3.5 gb large, .mkv file, and encoded in x256.
When i play it with rock player its all skippy and not even watchable, but it plays the audio just fine.
When i play it with the default player the video is just beautiful, no skipping at all. However no audio plays. What can i do to fix this? Other blue ray rips play just fine and the lorax i have plays fine in other computers.

Just encode it into something that plays. Mp4 on a phone will still look beautiful. I use handbrake but there free or free to try out there. Check cnet downloads.

I perfer mxplayer. I get 0 issues out of it
Motorola lied and I'm still locked mb865
Mx player is the best, even vlc plays a broad spectrum of formats. A HD movie in avi format wasnt playing properly in MX, which played flawlessly in vlc.

+1000 for MX Player. It is so good I paid the $5.60 for the paid version, which does nothing extra except no ads. But I felt the Korean developer deserved some money because it is such a good product.
Dice Player is the best, at least on the Xoom.

Did anyone notice a choppy video playback using YouTube app on the N5?. I tried my Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 playing HD videos on youtube , it is choppy on my N5 where it is smooth on my N4.I did not try other video players.

Yeah, that's what I notice too. I mean, the video looks stunning, but it doesn't seem to be running smoothly at all.
I ran it side by side with my iPhone 4S, and my iPhone played the video much smoother overall. I thought I was just seeing thing until it reached one part in the video where the same kid in the video raising his hand to point at the sky. The arm movement right there was noticeably unnatural in the Nexus 5, compare to my iPhone 4S's playback.
Does anyone know an app that can show you what the currently playing video's fps is?
I have not experienced this... well I haven't notice it if it is choppy

Do you have any other smartphones that is capable of playing youtube videos? Pull the same video up across both both phones and start the playback at the same time.
Better yet, compare it against your PC browser.

Can confirm that that video is much choppier on the Nexus 5 compared to the Nexus 4. No idea why. Doesn't make any sense.

I hope it's just some optimization problem that can be fixed with software update(s). I'd really hate to return this phone back, but it's quite a deal-breaker for someone like me who uses the phone as an on-the-go multimedia player.
Are there any alternative apps that can play HD youtube videos smoothly?

Sometimes these issues are also caused by user settings like what and how many apps or widgets running in the background, Google syncronisation interval and what apps connect to the internet etc etc.

I don't think its defective. I believe all the devices have the same issue. We just have to wait for a software fix.

Well, there are people like me and you who notice the "stuttering" (I wouldn't call it choppy, because still frames are just as clear as my 4S). Then, there are others that say it does not stutter even in the slightest.
I don't know what to believe in anymore.
Maybe the YouTube app isn`t fully optimsed for KitKat yet.
hmm I can only just notice it - though if I wasn't looking for it I doubt I'd notice it

Probably a good test would be download the video using for example tubemate, then play the local copy this would help determine whether network latencies are contributing to any lags or if caused by decoding the video if it occurs when local copy.
Then try hw vs Sw decoding.
Will test when I ve got time.
My preferred video player is MX player that currently doesn't run on kit kat

yeah its very stuttery. Whats worse the youtube app doesn't seem to be able to get 1080p and 720 upscaled looks atrocious. Playing the same video on my 2 year old One XL and this phone, the Nexus is so much worse in terms of stutter, upscaling and color that I'm very disappointed at the moment.
