[Q] Wi-Fi won't turn off

After turning off my wifi, the battery stats show that I still have it running, when in reality it shouldn't. It shows that it's off in the settings menu but the wifi bar in the battery stats says it's on. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Like this for example.

Yep. Introduced in 4.3 WiFi will stay on to help with location. When it's turned "off" it just means it won't connect.
You can turn this feature off in WiFi > advanced > scanning always available.

Wi-Fi battery drain

Hey guys, I've owned my Nexus 5 for a couple weeks now and I've noticed a battery drain when running on WiFi. No matter what ROM I use, no matter what kernel I use, it still drains. And BBS tells that as well. I have not one but 4 wakelocks on WiFi and I've tried both franco and faux's kernel combined with both Cataclysm/Stock ROM. Attached a BBS screenshot. Anyone has this too/solved it?

Li'l up? I've searched a while but no one has these three same exact wakelocks like me.

You have to turn off "Always scanning" in the Wi-Fi advanced settings

Done. Even undervolted -75mv and underclocked CPU of 200MHz (not actually related to this WiFi thingy but I wanted to save some battery). I feel like WiFi is draining soooooo much even when the screen is on, and I don't use any apps like Facebook which drain battery.

Difference between "WiFi on" and "WiFi running" in battery stats?

I was looking over my battery stats with better battery stats app. I noticed that "WiFi running" was using my battery 100% of the time. At first I thought that was my WiFi connection but my WiFi was off. When I turned it on I then notice "WiFi on" in better battery stats. What exactly is WiFi running?

Wifi On: the total time Wifi was on
Wifi Running: the total time Wifi was connected to an SSID

Ahhhh I see. Thank you for the reply. Would this connection to my SSID be draining battery? Or is it such a small percentage that I shouldn't worry about it?

I must have it wrong. What I said makes no sense in light of your screen shot. Sorry to have jumped the gun.

Wifi running could possibly be referring to the 'Scanning always available' setting in advanced wifi settings. If ticked it allows Google and other apps to scan for networks to locate you.
I'm no expert but just a thought
Thanks for this I just got the nexus 5 and was wondering the same. Didn't know there was an "always scan"...

Actually, the Better Battery Stats thread definitely has all this kind of information.

*backup* battery drain

Hello can someone please explain to me why backup wake lock is constantly causing my battery to drain and is there anyway to resolve this apart from taking the backup option off as this would delete everything from the Google servers

Anyone?

The only time I saw this was with the EntriesRefresh googlesearch wakelock.
It doesn't happen anymore, I did 2 things: turn off Google photos auto sync and I let the wifi on all the day (even when I'm not using it)
No more Google wakelocks !

Try using the juice defender

Have you tried first unselecting all google syncs (mail, calendar, drive, google+, etc...) and then reselecting only those you need? Also try disabling Google backup service for a while..
Yeh I tried u checking the backup box but didn't make any difference I will try juice defender and see how that goes for
Thanks for your replies

Inaccurate battery stats?

My z3 is acting really weird and also my z3 tablet compact as well. When I check battery stats under power management it shows that wifi was never turned off when in fact I didn't use wifi at all. Here I will attach screenshot, first is the battery usage of the system, then a screenshot of gsam's own battery usage which shows I didn't use wifi at all. I also noticed my battery is draining more quickly. Who knows why this happens? by the way, my wifi scanning is off in the advance settings for wifi.

Have you tried software repair using pc companion????
Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk
As much as possible that would be my last option. factory resetting should be the last resort, heck it's hard to set the phone again and also the tablet, would be a pain in the ass
