Is there a way to do this? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using BlackBerry 10.2 the other day and noticed a few things I liked and was wondering if there's a way to get them on the Nexus 5:
1. Ability to click on toast notifications (say of a text message) and respond on the spot without leaving the app you're in.. is it possible to do this on the Nexus 5 anyway?
2. Text message previews/calendar events on the lockscreen.. is it possible?
3. Split calendar to show calendar on top, schedule on the bottom (see pic below) - Any app that replicates this or option in Google Calendar?

Thanks.

1. The SMS app Textra let's you reply from anywhere without exiting the app you're in. I'm sure there are plenty of others that do as well, but Textra is what I'm using.
2. Yes. If you drag the lock screen left you'll move to another screen with a '+' sign on it. You can then add widgets there.
3. There's likely a ton of calendar apps for this but Jorte comes to mind as one that has a split view like that.

Thanks! How would you rate Tetra in terms of fluidity and responsiveness? Also, when a message pops up, is there a slight 2 second delay when loading the pop up after the message is received? I tried a similar app in the past and it bugged me that there was a delay when I saw the notification in the notification tray.

Textra has been pretty good so far through a week of use. No major lags, stutters or anything like that. SMS and MMS work fine. I'd say its as good as or better than the old stock messages app.

are you talking about an actual window that pops up or just the notification icon in the top left?

What Rom are you using

I have had that before on my phone. It was quite a while back and I "think" it was part of another application I had downloaded but I don't remember which one... maybe back track what you have downloaded and uninstall til you find it. Worth a shot...
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
This looks like the pop-up you get when you are on the phone talking and get another call and is giving you the option to send a txt to the caller. The option is there in the stock ROM which I am sure is carried over to custom ROM's.
I have never seen this pop-up but others have. If you have a custom dialer that may be why.
go into Settings > Call > Phone settings (or similar for a custom dialer)
I believe this is a setting within the MIUI rom... I could be wrong though.

and also life.contact beta widget
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008393
ok, installed, works.
it just seems to place random contacts there, or possibly in order of most contacted.
doesn't seem to display all contact pics. i have some that are assigned pics, and some timescape contact pics, but not all display for some reason.
but it's beta, and it works. and it's a pretty cool contact widget. will try it out for a few days to see how it effects battery.
oh, and timescape pics are blurry, but google/user assigned contact pics are clear, lol.
some more things about this widget...
it adds another sync service (life.episodes), which copies the phone numbers into another field of the contact, which when you view the contact, the numbers are all doubled. you'll see 2 numbers listed for each phone for every contact. kind of annoying.
I really hope they fix all of the contacts issues with the 2.3 update (doubling,blurry,etc).
Thx for testing & posting
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
it's actually not a bad widget. i found that if you edit the contact and add a pic that you took with your camera, or the google contact pic, it's not blurry on the widget. just timescape pics, which has something to do with the resolution that timescape uses i believe.
here's the small widget
here's the large widget
Nice app, but double numbers is so annoying. I keep checking for updates lol

uninstalled. we should offer them feedback so they can make the proper changes.
ok, couple of fixes...
to get rid of the duplicate entries.
from the homescreen:
menu > settings > accounts and sync > life.contacts
remove this account
to get missing contact pictures. set a contact picture under the google section of the contact. you don't have to select that image to be the contact image, you can still use the timescape image as the actual contact image in phonebook, but there has to be an image in the google contact.
Downloaded it from the Market and the widgets do not appear on WB's CM6.1.3. Anyone have the same issue?

[Q] Twitter notification tone

Is any one else having problems picking a notification tone with Twitter? Every time I pick one it just goes back to default. Thank you for any help.
Yes I posted the same problems.. and now I'm getting no notifications

the latest APK does the same - reverts back to the default. One option my wife thought of was to change the default to silent and then change the notifications in the other apps.
There are many other apps but none will push the notifications outside of the app for the tweets of people you request because of the Twitter API.

I have the same problem. The button to save the notification sound setting is missing (and exiting the page doesn't automatically save the change).
any resolution on this subject?
No there's been a few updates but no fix for this on the s6. I reported it to twitter but I suppose it's not a very big issue really
Still not seeing any resolution on the latest build 5.69.0
Same issue on the note 5
Here we are 6 months down the line and they still haven't fixed it.
Set "default notification sound" in phone settings to the one you want for Twitter then change notification for messages to the one you want for SMS msgs.
Sent from my SM-G920F
The problem is there is no OK button on the notification sound dialog box on the GS6/Note 5.
My wife has a Note 4 and the same Twitter app version has an OK button which successfully changes the tone.
My Note 5 doesn't have an OK buton. Backing out is the same as the cancel button.

Same problem on the Samsung S7. This is really annoying. Please somebody fix this problem
Agreed. Seems like both a minor issue, and because it has lingered for so long, a very annoying one.
Even the Default/Messages setting workaround upthread is a no go for me, because there are apps (i.e. my local news app that send breaking news alerts) that give the Twitter sound with that setup.
Seems this should have been fixed a long time ago.

Download es file Explorer. Remove the app defaults for twitter/media storage. Open twitter and go to notifications. When it pops up the app to use choose es file Explorer and browse to ur customer notification. Works for me on s7

Dear Rick, thanks for the cool app, just let you know that on my new Note 5, I can not import the fingerprint indicator from internal memory even i saw it, but nothing happens when I choose, the indicator unchanged. Can u keep a little bit attention on that? Thanks again Rick

Hi. I got one other report about this. I am not sure if the person was using a Note 5 :$. Could you contact me via email? You can find my email address on the about page in FingerSecurity or on the Play Store page

Hi Rick,
Really digging this app. There is one minor annoying thing that is happening. When I turn on my screen the application looks to jump to the top of the notification list. When it does that it moves everything down, which causes a bit of shutter on my lock screen.
Have you heard of this? Also, PM if you want a video for this great application.

Hi. I never heard of this before. I would like to see a video about that if that is possible

*How To* Screen off when receiving text!

First and formost!! Credit goes to face and any other person who discovered this!! I'm just placing it here so people know it works for the note 5 and for people to lazy to look with the search function!!
What this does: If you hate when your phone screen turns on when receiving a text, this will make so your phone screen stays off!
ROOT REQUIRED!!!
Step 1~ Use ROOT browser or any other type of ROOT file Explorer, head to Data/Data/Com.android.mms.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2~ Go into the folder called "Shared_prefs"
Step 3~ Go into "com.android.mms_preferences.xml" be sure to open it in a text editor!!
Step 4~ scroll down until you see this "" now that you found it change the true to false! Save your edit and if your file Explorer creates a back up with an ext. At the end like .BAK be sure to delete it or move it else where as your phone will revert all changes upon reboot if you do not!!!
FINALLY~ I AM NOT Responsible for any problems you may cause to your phone be careful not to delete extra text or any thing of the sort as it could potentially cause problems!! Enjoy your extra little bit of battery being saved by text notifications not turning your display on !!
Or just use textra...
I own textra and honestly dont like it and for whatever the reason prefer the stock messenger in this case over Messenger or Textra. So this tutorial is quite helpful if I was rooting this phone. Quite sure people know that using another messaging app will stop your phone from turning on with notifications.
Thx OP :good:

This is off topic, and sorry in advance. Is there any way to make the stock app like textra while receiving a text? I.e only shows the name is the sender and not the text itself.

That's similar to what I'm looking for, however it doesn't tell me who sent a message it just says new message.
From note 3 to note 5, they removed the sms reminder function from the settings. This same file can be used to add that back. I changed two values from 1 to 10 with great success. Pref_key_msg_reminder_alert Values in both string and boolean name.
