I'm a noob, so help me try to root my htc one x on att with build 3.18 running 4.1.1
I'm using Wizzrah Evita toolkit and when I hit the motochopper it'll reboot into my bootloader and after that the command prompt with just stay on waiting for devices? did I do something wrong? or is it supposed to do that. Also how do I get the token from HTCdev? I heard that I have to change the CID? to 2222222... is that right?
Click the link in my signature, navigate to the root section, find the 3.18 root method, follow instructions.

Not familiar with that toolkit. When Googling for it, it looks like a dev on Android Central. Did you post there for help? wizzrah does not look to be an active developer/poster on XDA, and as far as I can tell, his toolkit was never posted here.
timmaaa linked to my Index thread of EVITA tools and resources which are most commonly used and referred to on this forum.

You seem very unclear on the process to bootloader unlock this device. This is where toolkits and the like (one-click roots, etc.) will do you no justice, as they basically allow/encourage you to root your phone without the proper knowledge. I agree with timmaaa that you need to do some more reading before proceeding. Temp root using Motochopper is needed in order to obtain SuperCID (11111111 or 22222222). Only then can you get a bootloader unlock token from HTCDev.com.
I can help you bro!

Reason I didn't post my toolkit here is because I saw there were already people posting their toolkits so I decided to just stick with Androidcentral. I got bored wait for Hasoon2000's toolkit to return so I made my own.

As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier, and you should feel free to post your work here, regardless of the fact there are already other toolkits existing. Unless of course the other reason you didn't post it was for lack of your own time.
To be clear, I'm not at all implying your tool isn't a great one. But its not one I've seen mentioned here, its not posted here, and probably most of the folks here will not be familiar with it. It seemed a bit odd that the OP posted a question here, rather then the forum where he found the toolkit in the first place.

I am using the AT&T HTC One X and have been trying to put a cooked rom on my device for the sole purpose of an improved battery life. I've tried the Hanson2000 all-in-one kit, but the HTC Developer's website wouldn't accept my token ID (Error 160). I have the SU# software installed on my device, but I'm not quite sure what that has done. If anyone could please link me or tell me of an easy step-by-step guide for making this thing happen, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

You need to start in the development section, and not use tools designed for other phones. Your token won't work because HTC blocks AT&T phones. You have to spoof your CID to use HTCDev. Start reading here:

Thank you for your insight. Seriously, though? I'm sorry if I offended you by posting this thread in the wrong area of the site. I'm also sorry if I hadn't mentioned it in my post, but I haven't been on XDA Developers since I had an HTC Tilt 2. So yeah...I hope you feel good about having your head stuck up your ass.

Hi guys, I know there are a lot of posts surrounding this topic, I did search but found many outdated methods so I am curious about the most up to date method.
I am using a one X that is one HTC SDK 4.11 build number 1.85 and software 1.85
Being an iphone jailbrake guy Im not sure which one matters most. Also, Im not sure about changing the bootloader as opposed to just rooting. If I change the bootlaoder am i essentialy unocking the carrier of the phone also?
So what is the currently method to rooting the One X, thank you so much, this is a very helpful forum.
Duck
Either the manual method or the 1.85 One Click by Beups and designgears
I'd imagine the STICKIED thread in development would be your best bet. You know, the one that says it's for 1.85.

Ahh sorry, didnt get to that forum yet, thanks! Question though, is the exploit for bootloader still up and running or should I just stick with rooting for now?

Hi guys,
Ok, being new cant post in the devs forum yet so have to post this follow-up here. So I wasn't paying attention and accidentally updated before reading the news about 2.20 here. I know I cant root now however here is my question:
If I exchange One X for replacement tomorrow that is on 1.85 is it still going to work as long as i avoid any OTA updates OR will it require an update during the process like ive read. I think Ive read that it can be interrupted but am not sure.
Thank You

As long as the phone is on 1.85 you can still use the method to gain root and unlock the bootloader.

I know there's a thread for s-off already, but it seems to have stalled? I am looking to start something, and figure it out before I end up contacting HTC myself. First question I have, is there such a thing as a DIAG file for the XL? I see on one x forum that they have been working on a way to use a white card, and this diag file, but they have only one problem, the CID needs to be be a superCID, which most of us with XL already have. I know I do. Please help me help find a way. Thanks.

Glad you wanna join in
I would start tho by reading what info is available, starting a new thread on project development should at least start with something not already being researched in the first thread. Not being rude, but read thru the existing thread, get as many questions as you can answered, and then figure out what questions need to be answered. It really is a practice that makes things simpler, information referenced easier, efficient and much much more productive.
The existing s off thread is in the general forum so anybody can post anytime too, so feel free to read and post, in that order

Yes I have read it over, If anyone can find any hboot that can be s-offed, does it have to be for the evita, or could we use an (ENG hboot?) from the jewel? I have read on one forum that this user flash successfully the evita on to his jewel, and it would boot to the bootloader, which is all you need for some of the o-ff tools, then once you write the S-OFF flag, you should be good to flash any hboot back and maintain that flag?
Anyways, I have read all over, I just can post in the dev forums... yet. I have read them all over time and time again. So this is yet another option to try out.

You were asked to tread lightly in the s-off thread but no you go in there and bombard/pollute the thread with irrelevant comments. The S-off thread is not for you to ask questions. If you have a MEANINGFUL contribution to make by all means do but at this point why don't you sit back, take a deep breath and READ instead of pissing everybody off and making an already tense situation worse,
Please, pretty please. I'm f#$%&ing begging you.
I have my at&t htc one x with ics 4.0.4, rooted and bootloader unlocked, hboot 1.14.002 S-on,
how can i get rid of the at&t and flash a normal rom like cm 10.2,
i read some post and tried to flash rom but gave me error 7.
can any one help me in update to 4.2.2.
The reason the ROMs failed to flash is because your firmware is too old. It does state very clearly in the cm threads that you need to run the 3.18 RUU to upgrade your firmware before installing the ROM. You absolutely must get s-off before you do this though or you'll brick your phone. Head over to the Facepalm S-off or Rumrunner S-off threads and get s-off. Then you can run the 3.18 RUU, if you need help with that look at this thread. Once you've done that you can flash any current aosp ROM.
PS. It'd help you a great deal if you did some research before flashing a ROM, the requirements for flashing cm ROMs are right there in the install instructions. Plus, it's rule #1 here on XDA to search before posting.

@mahesh48
I know you mean well but recommending one ROM over the other isn't allowed on XDA. To say one ROM is better infers that the others are inferior in some way, which isn't fair to the devs. He didn't even mention a Sense ROM anyway, he mentioned CM. He also needs to take care of the things I mentioned in my post first. If he did what you said he'd end up in a bootloop because his firmware is too low. I know you mean well but maybe you need to learn a bit more before you start giving out advice, advising people when you don't really know what you're talking about can result in damages phones and nobody wants that to happen.
Sent from my Evita
@TimAAa I actually advised him because I am on the same firmware that he has and mine bootloader details are exactly same as his ,and I am running the Rom with no issues as well so thought of helping me that's it
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2
I know why you did it, I was just letting you know that recommending one ROM over another isn't allowed, for future reference. Plus he didn't ask for a Sense ROM. Plus his firmware version is too to run a Sense 5 ROM.

i will start doing all what you said step by step and read the threads , and will inform you where i reached.
i found REVONE for getting the S-OFF, and it is very easy to use, what do you prefer to use and which one ,
You can't use revone, that is the for HTC One, it won't work for our phone. You really shouldn't be wandering into other forums, it's a bad idea, the exploits and software for other devices could very easily brick your phone. Here's our device forum main page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Bookmark that and make sure you stay within it. You can only use the two s-off methods I gave you links for in my earlier post, as for which one is easier, probably the Rumrunner method. Both will work though.

It's possible that it's because you're on older firmware that it didn't work. Although sometimes it says it didn't work but it did, check your bootloader just in case. If it turns out you're still s-on, try the Facepalm method instead.

With an AT&T branded HTC One X on 4.1, should i root it now and flash basebands+kitkat roms, or should I flash 4.2.2 first?
also, are there prerequisites to update to 4.2 roms coming from 4.1?
If you take the update you won't be able to unlock the bootloader afterwards so you should do it now. There are prerequisites, check out the Evita FAQ thread in my signature.

You're not gonna get anywhere if you don't read and educate yourself. Plus, the rules of XDA state that a user must search thoroughly before asking for help, so I'm much less inclined to assist someone who is attempting to take the easy way out by just asking instead of searching. I even gave you a specific thread to check out, it doesn't get much easier than that.
Like I said though, if you ever want to unlock the bootloader and root your phone, you do not want to take that update.
