Google Voice intercepting SMS (solved) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using gosms as the default SMS instead of hangouts. Just received a voice mail through Google voice and now every text that comes in goes to Google voice instead of gosms.
I've selected gosms as the default messaging app in settings and in the Google voice settings I selected use default messaging app instead of GV. I've also went to the settings on my computer and unchecked the boxes for phone calls and texts to be forwarded through GV.
I've had GV and gosms set up since I got the phone last Friday and this is the first time it's happening. Any help will be appreciated. All I want to do is use GV for voice mail. But I can't get it to do just that like I did on my Gnex.
Edit: I unchecked receive text on this phone by accident on the GV settings on the computer. It's working again.

[Q] Google Voice txt vs Google Text for Nexus S

I have linked my Google Voice to my Sprint line, but now every text message I receive goes to the Google Voice app, as well as the Text app on the Nexus S. Is there some way to DISABLE texts to the Google Voice app? I'm not a fan of the interface.
Everything is going to your Google voice inbox so you have to Unselect notifications in your Google voice app and may sure text messages is select it.

Im having this EXACT problem.
I enabled Google Voice Intigration for my Sprint number. Everything was working normally for a day or two. Txt messages were going to the normal messaging app.
But now txt messages ONLY go to the Google Voice app. Messing with notifications does nothing. My normal messaging app no longer receives the txt's at all.
Is there anyway to fix this? I can live with using the Google Voice app, but id much rather use the normal app.
EDIT: FIXED IT!!! ZOMG!
I didnt have this checked on my Google Voice settings (for some reason it is unchecked by default!)

I don't have that option in my settings. When I sign out of voice on my phone, I miss all calls and don't get texts. Very weird.

You don't get two messages now? When I changed it I get one message from Google voice and one from stock.

Works perfect for me.
Go into the Google Voice app on the phone, and turn off all the notifications.
Then goto settings in voice.google.com and enable the one setting that i have circled in the screenshot above.
This problem frustrated me for HOURS yesterday until i found that one setting.

another thing to look out for: I've noticed several times, usually when reinstalling the Google Voice app, it will disable receiving sms messages to my cell.
If you're not receiving texts for any reason, I'd check your google voice settings (on the web: google.com/voice) then, on the website go to Settings > Phones > Edit > Text Settings (check).
EDIT wait.. did u modify the original post? Or am i crazy..
Maybe this is another thing entirely. I get texts while using google voice but only with google voice.
However, I want my phone to receive MMS/SMS the way it normally (used to) so I can still use handcent.
This whole thing pisses me off to no end. NONE of the settigs are working right. I'm now missing ALL calls and texts. Totally disabled GV on phone and web and still nothing...

So you *want* to recv all texts thru handcent, but you're not? If that's the case, it sounds like the forward sms setting isn't checked (my post above).

Uncle Jimmy says hello
I just want to point out that NONE of this worked for me. The ONLY way I was able to make it so that I was getting text notifications and receiving phone calls was to completely disassociate my number with GV and sign out of the GV app on my phone.
No matter what combo of settings I tried, I would miss every single phone call (phone would never ring), not be notified of voicemails (even though email and text were chosen as notifications), and my texts would all go to the GV app but it would never notify me even if I had the settings right on the website and the phone.
I have also tried all of the mentions above, with no success. I actually sent texts to myself from my computer, and tested a ton of combinations of settings.
The main thing I've learned is that it is impossible (so far) to receive a text to the STOCK app, and NOT to Google Voice.
I changed settings on GV from my phone app, as well as on my GV on the computer.

Yes if you ported your number all your texts go through Google voice now.
You PORTED your number. Any calls or texts go through Google voice now and are handled by Google. Your texts and voicemails are saved in the Voice cloud.
If you don't want to use Voice as your messaging app just turn off notifications.
Its really not that complicated.

[Q] use stock/alternative SMS app with google voice

So I love google voice, but. I'd prefer to use handcent as my SMS app. Is there a way to disable google voice's SMS functionality? I'm on Sprint so my google voice account is linked via my carrier.

Going from memory here... but click enable text messages on this phone under settings in GV on your computer. In settings on your phone unchecked the box to keep your inbox synced. That is what I did in order to use gv for voicemail only and use stock sms. I receive a text when I get a new vm

I just did this during a sms conversation with the wife. Texts we're coming thru GV, until I...
Settings (In GV from PC)>Phones tab>Click "Edit" by your number>Tick the "Text Settings" box.
Now I'm texting thru the stock SMS app.

This works perfectly, but I still get text notifications from GV. If I disable text message notifications on the phone's app will I still get my voicemail notifications?
EDIT =>In sync and notifications, I have "synchronize inbox", and "text messages" checked, and "inbox notifications" unchecked. This notifies via stock sms and disables google voice text message notifications.
Whether or not I get my voice mail notifications is a different story.
My settings which send all SMS through stock messenger and sends me an SMS through stock messenger when I have a voicemail are as follows:
In phone --> menu button, synchronize inbox unchecked, Text messages (Notify via txt message) checked, Inbox notifications unchecked
On PC through GV --> click the gear in the upper right, select voice settings, under "Phone" tab click "edit" under your phone and check "receive text messages on this phone" then click save at the bottom. Under "Voicemail and Text" tab and "Voicemail Notifications" check "Send a text sms notification too:"
When I get a text that I have a VM I just open GV and listen to it. I cannot disable my Sprint number with GV and this was the best workaround I found. If you flash a new ROM you will need to redo these settings again.

Urgent help with Google Voice needed please

Hello, coming from the EVO, and now the awesome Nexus-S 4G, I am used to the stock Visual Voicemail that Sprint provides on the EVO's, and with the Nexus I just setup Google Voice. Some issues and questions please.
- My texts are going to the Voice app, not GO SMS anymore ? I only want texts using the GO app, not Google Voice.
- It seems I did use Google Voice like a year ago, and I have a boatload of message popping up from last year, how do I delete all these old voice mail messages ?
- Is there a way for the little Voice app icon, to display a # next to it of unread messages ? Like if I miss a text message it will show a little number 1 at the top corner of the app icon of how many missed texts I have, can the voice icon show that too ?
UPDATE;
I logged into my Google account on my computer, found the settings options, but some things still seem strange ?
My text messages are still going to Google Voice, and not even showing up in my GO SMS text app at all, or even the stock Android messaging, they only going to Google voice ? I did log into my gmail account on my computer and disabled texts, but it didn't seem to take ?
do you even want the messages to come through Google Voice? If not you can remove all of it and just use GV as Voicemail like Visual Voicemail...
If you just want to use GV as voice mail you have to log into your GV account through the web, Go into the phones setting and turn off the SPrint GV integration. Go into the app on the phone and delete the app data. Update the app in the market and then you will be able to "Skip" the GV Sprint integration and use it only for Voicemail.
I probably won't get back to this post until tomorrow so hopefully someone else can guide you.

Yes I want Google Voice as just a visual voice mail like i had with my EVO, I don't want Google Voice used for anything else besides that.
2 ways to do this, i've done it many times, lol.
1.) open gvoice settings in the browser from a computer and click deactivate google voice on this phone. You should then see the link change to "activate google voice on this phone." you will also see below it: deactivate google voicemail on this phone, that tells you that voicemail is still on. I think you want both of hte text message boxes unchecked as well. save it, that should do it. this is how i'm setup, i only use it like VVM.
2.) clear data on the google voice app on the phone. launch the app. when you get to the activation part, hit the SKIP button, basically it sets you up without using the extended gvoice features, select "do not use google voice to make any calls." finish the setup wizard, should be good from there.

[Q] Google Voice and Native Text App ICS

So with ICS on my TMO Nexus S, I selected "Also from native messaging app" in GV notification settings. Now it seems that all GV texts are appearing in the Native Text app (which is nicer than GV text interface) and it seems like when I respond to those texts (via native app), the responses are sent via my GV account and not the carriers. Anyone else noticed this? I can't find any documentation on it.

How to set up Google Voice?

I've tried googling the problem to no avail. In the options of Google Voice I set it to receive text messages, but no matter how many I receive it won't show them--they keep going to my generic touch wiz app. How did you guys set it up?

It really depends on how you want to receive them. I use Google Voice exclusively and I have it configured to use the Google Voice app and not the stock SMS app. How do you want to receive them?
One thing to look at:
- Log into voice.google.com from a (desktop) browser. Look for the text on the left that says "Your number" and click on your phone number.
- You should see at least two items, the first being "Google Chat" and the second being your mobile number.
- Check the "Receive text messages on this phone" box if you want to receive your Google Voice text messages via the stock messaging app on the phone. I leave this un-checked though because I prefer to use the Google Voice app.
You should also be aware that Google Voice can only receive SMS messages. It does not work with MMS messages which are typically used for sending pictures and some group messages.
And finally make sure you have notifications turned on for your Google Voice app. Maybe you are receiving them but it just isn't letting you know.
This was very helpful, thanks! When I went to that page I saw the "Google chat" thing, along with my number (it was under registered phones). However, I couldn't check "receive text messages on this phone" because that option wasn't present. It also wanted $20 to port my number; is that something you paid? I have an access number that's different from my phone number, but I guess that doesn't help. What's next? Thanks in advance!
